An Overview Of Pool Fencing Regulations In Australia
Regardless of whether a swimming pool is residential or commercial, it is mandatory, as per Australian law, to have pool fencing installed. Not just pool fencing but an installation that complies with specific safety standards. Yes, there are several rules and regulations to follow while getting pool fencing installations done, and not following these rules can trouble property owners in both residential and commercial sectors. This blog post covers some major rules and standards that one must follow in terms of swimming pool fencing installations.
Tumblr media
AUSTRALIAN POOL FENCING STANDARDS
The rules clearly state that any water body more than 300mm deep requires security fencing. This barrier should limit unwanted access to the pool’s water, particularly by pets and kids. Glass pool fences can also be used, provided that they adhere to strict rules and regulations.
Tumblr media
AS 1926.1-2012 SAFETY BARRIERS FOR SWIMMING POOL
Every residential and commercial property owner must comply with the standards related to pool fencing if they have a water body in the property. The standards are mentioned for the design, build and completion of the pool fencing installation.
There are three different pool safety standards depending on when the pool was constructed. The most updated version is AS 1926.1 – 2012 for swimming pools built after 1st May 2013.
Here are some basic rules and regulations mentioned in the rule books.
A pool fence must:
Be at least 1.2m high
Not leave a gap at the bottom bigger than 10cm from the finished ground level.
The barrier must be 1.8m high
Not have gaps of more than 10cm between any vertical bars
If containing horizontal climbable bars, have these spaced at least 90cm apart
Perforated or mesh barriers must have holes no greater than 13mm for fence heights of 1.2m
Perforated or mesh barriers of 1.8m in height with holes greater than 13mm must not exceed 100mm
The pool fence must be well-maintained and in good working order
Tumblr media
There should also be child-resistant doors and windows, and the gates should be self-closing and latching. Some rules related to swimming pool gates are presented here.
The gate is never propped open and is always kept shut
It must swing outwards
The gate must be re-hung so that it shuts automatically from any open position.
Automatically locks (self-latches) when it closes.

Safety First: Choosing the Right Commercial Swimming Pool Fencing in Sydney
Commercial properties in Sydney with swimming pools have a responsibility to prioritize safety. One of the key elements in ensuring the safety of your pool area is the installation of appropriate swimming pool fencing. Sydney businesses can benefit greatly from choosing the right fencing solution, and here's why.
Legal Compliance: Sydney, like many other places, has strict regulations in place regarding swimming pool safety. Commercial properties are required to have pool fences that comply with these regulations to prevent accidents, especially involving children. Installing the right swimming pool fence ensures that your business is legally compliant.
Enhanced Safety: Safety should be the top priority when it comes to swimming pools, especially in a commercial setting where there may be a higher volume of visitors. The right pool fencing acts as a barrier, preventing unauthorized access and reducing the risk of accidents and drowning incidents.
Versatile Options: Sydney offers a variety of swimming pool fencing options, allowing businesses to choose a style that suits their property's aesthetics. Whether you prefer glass pool fencing for a modern look or aluminum fencing for durability, there are versatile options to match your needs.
Durability: Sydney's climate, with its exposure to saltwater and coastal conditions, requires pool fencing materials that are durable and rust-resistant. High-quality pool fencing materials are designed to withstand these challenges while maintaining their strength and appearance.
Curb Appeal: A well-chosen swimming pool fence can enhance the overall appearance of your commercial property. It can add an element of sophistication and elegance, making your business more attractive to visitors.
In conclusion, commercial swimming pool fencing in Sydney is a critical investment for the safety of your guests and to comply with local regulations. By choosing the right pool fencing solution, you can ensure that your property not only meets legal requirements but also creates a safe and visually appealing environment for all.

Why Semi-Frameless And Frameless Glass Fencing Also Popular In Australia
Owners of properties that have a pool inside should understand fully well that it is required by the law to have fencing built around the swimming pool. In terms of pool fencing installations, the most demanded one is glass fencing, i.e. equally valuable and valid as per Australian law. It can also prevent accidental deaths caused by falling into the swimming pool or drowning. These fences become extraordinarily important for families that have small children and pets at home. There are several reasons why glass fences should be your first choice, and we have discussed them in detail here.
Tumblr media
BOOST SAFETY AROUND THE POOL FOR CHILDREN AND PETS
Statistics say that drowning is one of the leading causes of death for children under 14. The saddening fact here is that most of these fatalities occur in the home's backyard only. But with semi-frameless and frameless glass fencing, you get sturdy and robust protection for kids and pets. This added layer of protection will restrict them from entering the danger zone around the poolside area. The best part of these glass fences is that they are impossible to climb over, and this is something not seen in those made from other materials.
GET AN UNOBSTRUCTED VIEW OF THE POOLSIDE AREA
One top benefit of both semi-frameless and frameless glass fencing is that you will get an unobstructed view of the entire area to keep an eye on. This will benefit you in two ways, as you will first get a clear view to keep track of your kids' activities there. Secondly, the unobstructed view will also enhance the overall aesthetics and charm of the area. With a glass fence around your swimming pool, you can become reactive immediately in case something unpleasant occurs.
ENHANCE THE LOOKS OF YOUR YARD
Firstly, the unobstructed view of the entire area will play a significant role in enhancing the overall looks and appeal of the area, and secondly, glass fencing in itself is a decor item that can significantly improve the entire scenario there at the poolside area. Your garden area, as well as the backyard, will look more spacious and bigger than it is. Moreover, because of the transparency, the light will get reflected, making the area brighter. These installations are a great choice if you are looking for solutions to modernize and improve the entire aesthetic appeal of your backyard area.
GLASS FENCING IS EASY TO MAINTAIN
Several other materials are used in manufacturing swimming pool fencing, but they all come with the stipulation of high-level maintenance. Aluminium, steel, wrought iron, timber, everything will need timely maintenance, care and regular cleaning, but this is not the case with glass fencing. Cleaning this installation is like a breeze, and you will not have to invest too much in keeping it in a press time condition. You will have to clean the glass panels using a dishwasher solution and a clean piece of cloth. Once dirt and dust are removed, you can rinse the area with clean water to maintain the look and improve the life span.
THEY ARE COMPLETELY SAFE FOR USE
People have a misconception in mind that semi-frameless and frameless glass fencing is not as sturdy as rot iron fencing or aluminium fencing. But this is not the case, as the manufacturers use 12-millimetre toughened glass for residential glass fencing. For commercial swimming pool fences, they rely upon 18-millimetre toughened glass, as the pressure is more in commercial swimming pool areas and also the chances of accidents. A fantastic feature of toughened glass is that upon breaking, it does not form big panes of glass, and it simply shutters into tiny, weightless pieces that are totally harmless.

Wow, this is 1931 home in Winnetka, Wisconsin is impressive. 9bds, 9ba, $8.9M.
Tumblr media
Wow, look at the carved wood walls. There's an original tile floor in the foyer, too, and a leaded glass inner door.
Tumblr media
You know, I like the white carpet on the stairs. I wouldn't want to clean it, but it looks beautiful. This home has those bas relief ceilings, too.
Tumblr media
Is it the way they're photographing the room to get the ceiling in, or are the ceilings low? The large sitting room has wood paneled walls to match the entrance hall, plus the same ceiling and a beautiful fireplace.
Tumblr media
Very classy guest powder room. Black marble floor with white veining, and the marble counter on top of an antique dresser has a sink ringed in gold. The gold wallpaper ties it all in.
Tumblr media
Comfy home office. The rounded desk looks art deco and is nestled perfectly in a triad of framed windows.
Tumblr media
The library shelving is gorgeous. Oblong octagonal cutouts in carved shelves, and that gorgeous fireplace in the middle has a pediment with a pineapple and a black & white marble surround.
Tumblr media
I like this light dining room. Cream and pale blue bas relief ceiling is so soft and stunning.
Tumblr media
These cheery bright dining spaces are so pleasing. This is a breakfast room in creamy white and it gets a lot of sun from the windows to the garden.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
The kitchen is a professional chef's kitchen. It begins with a large pantry done in the same cream color with large glass paned doors on the cabinets so you can see the dishware. The kitchen cabinetry looks maple and has a cute corner fireplace, black countertops and copper pots hanging over the double island.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
At the top of the stairs on the 2nd level is a magnificent oval leaded glass skylight. The glass panes are opalescent. And, there's a large sitting room up here, too.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
They've made a walkway between 2 area rugs in the huge primary bedroom. On one side is a lovely mahogany canopy bed that contrasts well against the white room and the other side is a sitting room.
Tumblr media
There is a huge home office up hear with a pretty French Provincial desk and a chaise lounge.
Tumblr media
The bath is nice, there's a separate room for the toilet, and a lovely vintage marble counter on the sink. Love the rust-colored marble on the floor.
Tumblr media
What a lovely guest room. It's so large, there's a huge picture window between 2 full-sized canopy beds.
Tumblr media
Down in the large basement is a rec room that looks like the ultimate man cave. Rich dark wood furniture, a red pool table with an unusual pool lamp- it's not the usual stained glass, this fixture has foxes in red waistcoats holding up electric candles - love that.
Tumblr media
Wow, man cave indeed. That fireplace is the size of a room. You can definitely walk in there. And, look at the life-sized butler statue in the corner. Is he creepy?
Tumblr media
The home gym looks commercial. Mirrored walls and a black ceiling make it look industrial.
Tumblr media
Outside, the iron gate makes it look like a secret garden.
Tumblr media
The hedges are cut in patterns.
Tumblr media
It must cost a fortune to maintain these gardens. The property is 3.25 acres.
Tumblr media
Is it me, or does the pool look like a fidget spinner.
Tumblr media
I love conservatories and this one is lovely. The plants and wicker furniture really bring the outdoors in.
Tumblr media
This is the prettiest tennis court with the trees and latticed fencing.
Tumblr media
An elaborate play set for the children looks like it conveys.

Upper Moon Demons at the Gym
I did the Hashira already, but I wanted to explore the upper moons (plus Muzan and a few of the lower moons). If y'all wanna see the other characters (Tanjiro, Nezuko, Zenitsu, Inosuke, Genya, Tamayo, Yuichiro, etc.) let me know.
Lower Moons + Muzan
Enmu:
Does an astonishing amount of leg workouts. Only wears bulky/baggy clothing. Says milk is better than protein shakes. Will hang around the gym to gawk at other's workouts. Confuses everyone at the gym with weird personal questions while they're in the middle of sets.
Rui:
Refuses to go to the gym. If he does get dragged there by his family, he sits and watches videos on his phone. If there is a pool, he can be convinced to swim, but only in the shallow end. He will take pictures of people to make fun of them. He's been banned from one gym for this.
Muzan:
Takes private fencing lessons and only works out in the privacy of his own home as he thinks the gym is unsanitary. Will try any and every protein shake and pre-workout, obsessed with staying fit and young-looking. Takes every supplement known to man. Wears joggers and muscle shirts. Hates sweating and mostly just walks a lot on his treadmill at home, despite having several other pieces of gym equipment.
Upper Moons
Kokushibo:
Wears a sweatshirt and joggers at all times, never seems to sweat even when he is exerting himself. He prefers extracurriculars such as akido and karate but goes to the gym to supplement his classes. Thinks pre-workout and protein shakes are scams.
Douma:
Only works out enough to stay physically fit and attractive. Will make unnecessary comments to people at the gym, especially women. He always seems to weasel his way back into gyms after getting kicked out because of his smooth tongue. He spends a lot of time lounging around in the tightest shirts he can buy. Has been sponsored by workout brands for clothing and supplements for his charisma and pretty eyes. There is usually a spike in sales after Douma does a commercial or ad, so he's a highly coveted model.
Akaza:
Does a lot of calisthenics and weights. He will also sprint on treadmills but focuses on building upper and lower body muscle groups. Can do more pull-ups than any of the moons. Wears wife beaters and joggers, basketball shorts if he's going to be running on the treadmills. He's generally a good gym goer but tends to challenge other gym goers to competitions. Kyojuro is the only one who has kept up with him in a challenge. Akaza lives off of pre-workout and protein shakes. He is responsible for getting Douma kicked out of a couple gyms, and vice versa- neither of them can attend the same gym without it coming to a head eventually.
Hantengu:
Hantengu- is an old man who will go to the gym to stare at girls doing squats. He doesn't do much else, except biking on occasion.
Sekido- has gotten in trouble for slamming weights and yelling at his brothers in the gym. He spends most of his time with dumbbells and on the bench-pressing weights while grunting loudly. Only drinks pre-workout, and probably hasn't had a proper glass of water since starting at the gym. He will drag his brothers to the gym and then complain about them being there.
Karaku- is pretty well rounded at the gym, trying out new things and never really sticking to a specific plan. As long as he feels sore by the end, he doesn't care to target anything specific. He will loudly talk and conversate with other gym-goers, and there are actually a few gym employees who like chatting with him. Will eat or drink anything given to him.
Urogi- likes to do parkour and tends to enjoy cardio more than his brothers. He will also attempt to talk to other gym goers but will also nit-pick the way they workout while giving somewhat backhanded compliments. Likes pre-workout but will not drink protein shakes. Wears loose clothing like basketball shorts and oversized t-shirts.
Aizetsu- hates going to the gym and is always asking when they are leaving. He wears oversized hoodies and sweatpants, and exclusively does ellipticals and biking. He will do stretching if no one else is around. Strictly drinks water and tries to never make eye contact with anyone at the gym.
Zohakuten- Gets dragged along with his brothers to the gym even though he hates going. Thinks all of the women there are skanks no matter how they are dressed and makes no attempt to hide his contempt for others. He made a comment on Mitsuri at one point which mysteriously resulted in him accidentally eating a snack that contained peanuts and having an allergic reaction (they never found the culprit, but others have suspicions about a certain black-haired man who wears masks to the gym).
Gyokko:
Wears the weirdest clothes to the gym and is constantly muttering or having full-on conversations with himself/at people about art and the human body. He does very little exercise, stating he mainly comes to the gym for inspiration in his art. He hasn't caused any major trouble, so he hasn't been banned or kicked out, but people tend to avoid him at all costs as he gives a lot of them the creeps- men and women alike.
Daki:
She, like Mitsuri, wears cute matching sets to the gym, but they tend to be more revealing. Daki has also gotten a lot of modeling and ad contracts for workout brands, although her modeling career extends beyond the gym. Daki has been asked out no less than seventeen times while at the gym, all of which she declined. She spends a lot of time preening in the mirrors between sets, and judging people both in her head and out loud. She only drinks protein shakes that are sweet and makes Gyutaro mix them up for her.
Gyutaro:
He only attends the gym because Daki goes. His crippling self-esteem issues force him to wear dark oversized and baggy clothing. Gyutaro sticks to any machines that are inconspicuous and don't draw attention to himself. He has never once slammed his plates, afraid that it will make people look at him. The only time he is okay with people seeing him is when Daki is dealing with a persistent admirer, and she needs him to act as a physical barrier and guard dog. He will only drink energy drinks.

The most astounding thing to me is politicians that say kids need to spend more time outside. Because in white suburban America, that's easy enough to say. With your gated communities, and your HOA paying for constables to patrol the neighborhood, and your neighborhood pools, and your "it's safe for kids to be outside unattended".
In the suburbs of the US, there's plenty of places for kids to be and plenty of other kids for kids to play with.
Now where I grew up, there weren't other kids in our neighborhood. There weren't neighborhood pools to go to. It wasn't safe for me to walk outside alone. We didn't have a yard that I could play in.
Like I think this "Kids need to play outside more" is the greatest indicator of your social class, because that just means you live in a place with nice fenced in yards and an HOA that pays for constables to patrol the area and a gated community. (And either a pool in your yard or a neighborhood pool and playground)
You take your kids to where I grew up and try to tell your kids to "play outside" and tell me how well that goes for you.
And the thing is I didn't even grow up in the "inner city". I just grew up in a low income area, so I know I don't even know the half of it.
Thing is I distinctly remember the TV programs being like "this commercial break go outside and dribble a basketball 100 times" as some type of "encourage kids to be active this summer" campaign and I'm like "where, and with what basketball?" Like just Grade A ignorance, I guess.

Tip my hat to you//0.1
Summary: After returning from the uranium mission, Bob finds out his long-term 7-year boyfriend was cheating on him. Bob goes to the only person he knows who wont ask questions. Jake Seresin.

Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Bob hated planes, which was ironic given he was a Weapon specialist officer. He didn't hate the flying so much, it was the fact that he was stuck in a cramped space bored out of his mind for the next 5 hours.
He also hated flying commercial in his uniform, but he hadn't been in the right mind frame to change. It came with benefits but it came with more con’s then pro’s, he hated being stopped all the time, “Thank you for your service”.
It was so grating, you wouldn't stop a normal person? Why get in his way to say something they clearly didn't mean?
He had flown to Lemoore in uniform because he had a meeting with the brass before he left for the airport and didn't have time to change. He hadn't seen the point, after all it was only one little flight.
He remembered their last night together at hard deck, everyone had been having fun. Their last night all together before people started shipping out.
God he had been so dumb, he had been talking to Phoenix all week about how excited he had been to be coming home.
The Hard Deck had been loud, there was only a few days left before he left. The noise pounded in his ears and there was a faint pulsing starting in the back of his head, an early sign of a headache coming on.
He signed dreamily, he knew his heads were in the clouds. It didn't seam to bother the other who were spread out in the bar, Rooster and Fanboy were playing pool, Payback and Coyote were playing darts and yet somehow both of them were losings. Hangmen was around - Bob hadn't seen him for a good hour, and Maverick was at the bar.
Phoenix nudged his shoulder rolling her eyes at him in amusement, she dropped into the booth next to him. Groaning dramatically earning her a weird look from Fanboy who looked confused, but the look was wiped of his face as his head whipped around at the sound of the cue cracking on the ball as Rooster won the game.
Bob had been so excited to come back home. To see his crew again. To see Dan again. He had expected a warm welcome, a kiss and an embrace that would rival any military reunion. A homemade dinner and then a passionate night in between the sheets.
He had babbled to Phoenix about him for hours, in and out of the cockpit. She probably knew more about him then he did at this point but she never stopped him, as he talked about how amazing he was. How he missed him more then the world, how long it had been. How unbelievably sweet he was. Way to eat his own worlds.
“He’s just so..” He trailed off, Nix gave him an assumed look.
“Dreamy” she offered causing him to snort.
“Perfect” he admitted, she gave him a genuine smile pulling him into a hug, “I’m happy for you Bob, I really am” she gave him a kiss on the cheek, “Now, lets go watch these idiots make a fool of themselves shall we?” her grin became wolfish and he laughed at her glee. He would miss this.
They had become an odd bunch, Rooster and Hangman had started to get along. Maverick and Rooster were patching things up, there was something other then a platonic relationship happening between Fanboy and Payback. Coyote he hadn't had a chance to talk to much but he seamed to be reinstating a broken friendship with Phoenix. Despite everything, they really had become a team in the end.
How long had it been going on? How long had Dan been cheating on him? Had it been the entire time? How much of a fool had he been?
The lingering feeling of anger and betray hadn't faded, but mutated. He was resigned. But there was only so long before something like this would happen. They had been together for 7 years. That's a lot for people who weren't married.
People who were looking at homes together, who were looking at getting a dog. A family home with a white picket fence and 2.5 children.
What a joke.
He gritted his teeth as they went through a patch of turbulence, he took a deep breath in. He missed having his trusted pilot in the front seat of the jet, even a dogfight would be a smoother flight then this. He wasn't convinced this pilot had a license.
His phone vibrated and he pulled it out of his pocket glancing at the remainder displayed on the screen grimacing. Squad breakfast date.
He would need to reschedule that, his pilot Nixy had arranged it so they could get back together and catch him up on what he missed when he was deployed.
He couldn't attend if he was in Texas, he felt a slight sting of guilt for blowing of his squad, his family for something like this. An impulsive trip, but he could stay there, not while he was there.
They would understand, it wouldn’t stop her from coming herself and checking up on him.
He slipped his phone back into his pocket for safe keeping as he leaned back relaxing into the seat. While it was uncomfortable he had been in a fighter jet with far worse seats for far less time. He closed his eyes, this was going to be a very long flight.
Slowly the noise of the jet around him faded and the familiar noise of a jet sounded around him, he opened his eyes and found himself in the back of a fighter jet. Flying was as easy as breathing for him so why did it feel like an elephant was sitting on his chest?
He tried to move, to flip a breaker, to do anything. But he found himself pinned down to his chair, he grunted and tried to move again only to feel like he had been shoved roughly back into the seat wincing as he caught something on the way back. His back ached slightly before fading into the background with a faint pulsing pain.
He breathed in and tilted his head slightly when he head phoenix mumbled over there comms "that was close”
He could hear Maverick’s grim “too close".
What had been too close?
He didn't have much time to think when the jet shook violently, "Bird strike!" someone yelled out. Bob felt his chest construct and his panic set in as they started going down. He needed to move to help Phoenix. He needed to move.
He couldn't, he was frozen.
Alarms flooded through the cockpit as Phoenix attempted to save the jet.
“Phoenix both engines are on fire!” he called out to her, sweat poured down his back.
“Climbing!” Phoenix called out to command, “Throttling back. Shutting off fuel to the left engine. Extinguishing fire!”.
“Right engine is out!” Was he talking? His body was shoved against the side of the cockpit and a wave of nausea hit him. Where was he? He looked out of the canopy staring at the ground before they flipped again. Was he upside down?
He twisted his head swallowing heavily, trying to make sense of what was happening. The jet was to loud. It wasn't safe. It didn't sound at all like he was used to.
Everything around him seamed to slow, the cockpit seamed quiet, muffled. Almost silent.
He loved flying, it was calm. Sitting in the back providing an extra pair of eyes, staring out in the sky around them. Gliding through the air while making fun banter with his pilot. This wasn’t it. The cockpit wasn't filled with a friendly air, it was filled with panic as the jet twisted in the air and metal grinding. He could hear people yelling, his ears were ringing and he struggled to breath. Who was talking? What was happening?
They were plummeting to the ground, where they flying or falling?
He couldn't remember.
A shiver ran through him as he looked at the ground coming closer to him, he wondered ideally what type of animals lived down there. Would they be carnivores or herbivores. He wasn't sure which he would prefer.
Would there be wolves? Bears? No, this wasn't the environment for bears. Maybe Coyotes were better?
A hysterical laughter bubbled in his throat, he would have to tell Coyote he found his family.
Where did everyone go?
His heart was pounding and a pain was starting to spread across his chest, he swallowed back bile and prayed for his stomach to settle.
There was nothing worse then vomiting in your cockpit hundreds of feet in the air. The smell tends to stay long after cleaning, he had learned that in the academy. Those planes always smelt like vomit.
A wave of dizziness flooded through him as his ears popped and suddenly he was assaulted by the loudness of the cockpit.
“Phoenix you cant save it! Eject! Eject!” Maverick commanded desperately.  When had Maverick gotten here? Hadn't he left?
He could only watch as they get closer to the ground, as Phoenix stubbornly tried to recover the plane. She never pulled the ejection lever.
He closed his eyes as they collided with the ground. He felt pain flood through him, he felt like something was strangling him, tightening around his chest preventing him from breathing. Then he was being thrusted back and there was the familiar weight of g-force tearing apart his body.
He let out a gasp as he was jostled, his stomach dropping as his eyes shot open.
"I’m out of flairs!" Rooster cried out, no no no. The mission.
He saw it happen, he saw Phoenix frightened look in the mirror. He saw the devastation on her face and the determination. He watched helpless as she slammed the joystick to the side pulling them around far to tightly not to warp the frame. Making them leave their track, away from safety. He held his breath as she took place over Roosters jet without hesitation, showering the man with flairs. Cover Rooster just as he had seen Maverick do.
He held the plane with a iron grip, flexing his fingers only for an inch before the g-force pinned him down again. Alarms bleared through the plane as the plane jerked when the SAM hit them, Phoenix cried out in pain.
He wanted to ask if she was alright, but his voice was stolen from him.
He was stuck. Mute. Unless.
They were in a flat spin, the g-force pinning them back as they spun violently in the air heading for land. The alarms blared so loudly in the jet that he could hardly hear Nat over them.
"Eject bob! Eject!" Phoenix cried out. He couldn't move. he was pinned.
The Ejection handle was right there, between his legs. It would be so easy just to reach forward and grab them. He grunted as he tried to rip himself from where he was pinned. The weight strained against his body and pain flooded through him as he sank back in defeat a sob trying to crawl out of his throat. “Bob! Eject! Please Eje-”
The plane slammed into the ground and he expected pain again, instead he was graced with snow. He blinked one moment he was sitting in a fire covered plane staring at his dead unmoving pilot. The next he was stumbling into the snow collapsing to his knees staring as snowflakes landed, breathing in the smell of burning flesh and smoke. A familiar chuckle filled the air around him, haunting him.
"Not good enough Bob?" Daniel asked.
He let her down again, he failed. His only job was to help her fly, to keep an eye out for her. He had failed. Bird strike, the mission. They crashed.
Eject! Eject!
He should have reached forward, he should have pushed harder. He had been stuck, frozen in place, unless. He couldn’t fly a plane, he couldn't evade other planes like Phoenix could. All he was, was the guy in the chair. To call out warnings when she needed them. And he had failed. The bird strike, he could have pulled they out. They could have saved them, yanked them both to safety. But he hadn't. He had ignored Maverick’s yelling, his warnings, he had looked at his pilot knowing she wouldn’t pull the handles and had let them burn in.
The missile, they were falling, dropping. Burning in. All he had done was sit there, his pilots life in his hands and he had let it slip away from him.
Her still unblinking eyes started back at him from where she was pinned forward leaning over the cockpit, smoke made his eyes burn and the fire was smoldering around them. Dead. Dead. Dead. Your fault. You should have ejected. You should have moved. You should hav-
You will never be good enough.
He jerked awake his a strangled breath catching his scream just before it left his throat. The older woman sitting next to him startled as looked at him oddly, Bob swallowed and smiled "Apologies ma'am" he let his southern drawl seep into his voice. He tended to push it back when he was on placement. No one took him seriously with it, a dumb Texan blond. He didn't know how Seresin handled it.
“This is your captain speaking, I’m happy to announce we will be starting our decent. Welcome to Texas, and to those returning. Welcome home”.
Thank god.

A Lost Chapter From Cincinnati’s Irish History: The Sad Saga Of Dublin Street
“If ugliness were a cardinal virtue, angels might abide in Dublin Street.” Cincinnati Commercial Tribune 21 July 1849
When the ghost of Ginger Ryan appeared one night in 1903, Dublin Street, long neglected and criminally abused, was already doomed. Ginger, or James, as he was known to the local priest, had worked as an express man when he was alive. He delivered things by horse-drawn wagon. When he wasn’t working, Ginger was fighting. Sometimes he got into brawls while he was working. Ginger Ryan was the very embodiment of Dublin Street, so it was no surprise when residents of that woebegone lane claimed they saw Ginger’s ghost wandering around in the chill October dusk. Ginger’s ghost never spoke and eventually ceased its nocturnal visits.
As the name suggests, Dublin Street was a gathering place for Cincinnati’s Irish population. The street offered shelter throughout the time when “No Irish Need Apply” signs decorated many Cincinnati storefronts. Barred from all but the most menial occupations, many Dublin Street residents turned to crime. The infamous Nuttle Gang, Irish through and through, congregated here. Descriptions were rarely inspiring. Here is the Enquirer [23 November 1877]:
“Dublin street is a sort of nickname given to a hole in the line of Lock street extended north. It is thickly studded with houses whose tops scarcely reach to the level of the streets now filled in around it. The houses are principally old, weather-beaten frames, with rickety stairs and fences and general squalor to correspond.”
Despite its unsavory reputation, Dublin Street remains one of Cincinnati’s mysteries. It was a street, but it was also an informal district. “Dublin Street” was a catch-all term for the area just east of Bucktown where the poor Irish lived. It is intriguing that Cincinnati’s city directories, which include lists of every street in the city, make no mention of Dublin Street. That absence might imply that Dublin Street had not been dedicated or officially accepted by the city, and yet as early as 1845 the city appropriated funds to grade and pave Dublin Street.
It was hardly worth the expense. Dublin Street proper was a narrow alley crammed into a ravine running from the intersection of Lock and Eighth streets to the intersection of Court Street and Gilbert Avenue. Don’t bother trying to find it on a map. The whole area has been bulldozed and covered with a web of highway ramps. As it extended northeasterly, Dublin Street also descended into Deer Creek Valley, the old “Bloody Run” once bathed by the effusions from slaughterhouses upstream. When it rained, Dublin Street became a cesspool. The Enquirer [24 May 1871] opined:
“The Board of Health would do well to visit Dublin street and Gilbert avenue. There is about four feet of filthy gutter-water standing in the street, and the residents have to dam it out of their houses.”
It is unlikely the Health Department took the newspaper’s advice. No one wanted to “visit” Dublin Street and those people forced to do so, such as officers of the court, barely escaped to tell the tale. The Cincinnati Times-Star [22 November 1911] recalled one episode:
“Court Officer John Thomas had his troubles on old Dublin street, too. He recalls a time when he was called upon to arrest a youth named Thorp on a charge of theft. The boy cried and in a moment the street was filled with excited men and women. Thomas had to hold the boy and fight the crowd back. Gradually he fought his way to Gilbert avenue and dragged the youth up the hill while sticks and stones were showered upon him.”
Tumblr media
As the anecdote implies, the northern end of Dublin Street, where it met Gilbert Avenue, was a hill, made steeper by every improvement to Gilbert as the main route to tony Walnut Hills. Eventually, Dublin Street ended in an embankment that acted as a dam, pooling rainwater and sewage downhill from Gilbert’s finely paved thoroughfare. The Enquirer [31 May 1871] reports the effects of one storm:
“The water rose rapidly on Dublin street, flooding the floors of most of the houses on a level with the street to the depth of ten or twelve inches, and pouring in torrents down into the basements in the rear, which are used by the poor residents in this locality for kitchens and sleeping-rooms.”
A pioneering sociologist, Wallace E. Miller, reported on his inspection of Dublin Street, part of a comprehensive look at the city’s “tenement districts.” According to the Enquirer [15 March 1902]:
“This district,” says Prof. Miller, “is popularly known as ‘Dublin Street,’ partly because of the predominance there of people of Irish extraction. The ground is very low. The drainage is very poor, indeed. The street is never dry. The houses for the most part are frame buildings that are not kept up to the standard either of comfort or appearance. The surroundings are not conducive to health either in summer or winter.”
When Dublin Street residents appealed to the city for relief, they were met with undisguised scorn. After years of requests for some sort of attention, whether a set of stairs to climb up to Gilbert Avenue, or more capacious culverts to drain pooled floodwaters, Dublin Street residents asked for an embankment to keep the Gilbert Avenue hill from sliding into their back yards. City Councilman William E. Patterson even accused Dublin Street grocer Florence McCarthy of theft because he had rebuilt his house on stilts to avoid the flooding. According to the Enquirer [22 June 1890] Councilman Patterson laughed:
“McCarthy, you’re a robber. Here you shove up a house on sticks and then ask me to have the city slide a lot under it. You’re the first man I ever saw that would steal dirt. I’ll not vote for it.”
What the city eventually did vote for was a viaduct to connect the downtown to Gilbert Avenue. It took years to decide on the route and to condemn properties along the way, and to agree on the contractor, but every alternative concurred on one item: Dublin Street would be wiped from the map. The Cincinnati Commercial Tribune [17 July 1909] exposed the city’s ulterior motive:
“It has been decided to condemn all the property in Dublin street, although all of it is not needed. The part not needed will be used for a park or a playground, it is said.”
When Dublin Street disappeared, there was no record of anyone shedding a tear. There is, today, a park in the general vicinity of the old Dublin Street. It’s for dogs.

Friday 3rd March 2023
Once a jolly swagman camped by a billabong
Under the shade of a Coolibah tree
And he sang as he watched and waited till his billy boiled
"You'll come a Waltzing Matilda with me"
Down came a jumbuck to drink at that billabong
Up jumped the swagging and grabbed him with glee
And he sang as he stowed that jumbuck in his tucker bag
"You'll come a Waltzing Matilda with me"
Waltzing Matilda, Waltzing Matilda
You'll come a Waltzing Matilda with me
And he sang as he stowed that jumbuck in his tucker bag
"You'll come a Waltzing Matilda with me"
Down came the squatter mounted on his thorough-bred
Up came the troopers one, two, three
"Whose that jolly jumbuck you've got in your tucker bag?
You'll come a Waltzing Matilda with me"
Waltzing Matilda, Waltzing Matilda
You'll come a Waltzing Matilda with me
"Whose that jolly jumbuck you've got in your tucker-bag?
You'll come a Waltzing Matilda with me"
Up cut the swagging and jumped into the billabong
"You'll never catch me alive" said he
And his ghost may be heard if you pass by that billabong
"Who'll come a Waltzing Matilda with me?"
Waltzing Matilda, Waltzing Matilda
You'll come a Waltzing Matilda with me
And his ghost may be heard if you pass by that billabong
"You'll come a Waltzing Matilda with me"
Lexicon:
Matilda: Bundle of possessions
Swagman: Transient labourer
Billabong: Stagnant pool
Billy: Cooking pot
Jumbuck: Sheep
Tucker: Food
Swagging: Travel with your possessions in a bundle.
Well as you might have guessed, we went to the Waltzing Matilda Museum in Winton. This is a stunning new building, 2018, which replaced the old one that as you might correctly assume burned down in 2015. Pretty much all of the memorabilia displayed was lost with the exception of some items that had been off-site at the time. However, they have recovered the situation extremely well and now have a very presentable exhibition. Andrew Barton (Banjo) Paterson wrote the lyrics to WM in 1895 when in Winton he heard a rendition of 'Thou Bonnie Wood O'Craigielea'. Oh that old one you say. Anyway he rather liked the tune and said he could put some words to it. A friend at the event Christina McPherson said she could play it to him on the zither and soon after Banjo overheard the incident of a swagman and the jumbuck connected with the term Waltzing Matilda and so the song was born. It has gone on to be recorded by over 500 artists and been universally adopted by misty eyed Aussies as a national tune ever since.
Opals, Australia's national gemstone, were first discovered in Winton in 1888 by George Cragg. Found in sandstone and ironstone sites, this location has the highest concentration in Queensland. Some 95% of the world's commercial grade opals are produced here. To celebrate this fact, Martine bought some opal earrings.
The museum covered a lot of ground as it has taken on a Winton theme. Qantas was born here in 1920 and it's first flight took off from here. We all know of course that the name comes from Queensland and Northern Territories Aerial Service.
Well you would need to cough up the necessary 30 bucks to see how much the museum contains but there's great history here of life in the outback, sheep shearing, early settlers, Aboriginal territory, troops going to WWI, railway memorabilia, engine and vintage carriage....... A vast impressive collection and Waltzing Matilda everywhere and it would be impossible not to leave that place without humming Banjo's immortal work.
Now all this excitement superceded what had gone before. We had begun our town walk at the Musical Fence. Now I'm sure a budding percussionist could have had a field day on the collection of squashed tins, drums and bars but it wasn't quite what we expected, so moving on...
It might have been possible to pop into the Machinery and Truck Museum but it was closed due to it being out of season.
The next eclectic item I suppose was Arno Grotjahn's Wall. I imagine Mrs Grotjahn had one day shouted at Arno to go do something with all that junk in the yard. What she meant was for him to get a skip and get shot. He interpreted this is be an eager expectation of him building a wall out of it all. History fails to record her response to the finished boundary wall as to whether it was what she had in mind. I guess these Germans have different criteria.
Despite a dusting of very light rain, but humid conditions Martine managed 30 25m lengths in the council pool again to cool off from the excitement.
To celebrate our last night here we went back to our favourite pub for a meal, a XXXX and a Great Northern Beer. Tomorrow we shall be travelling again, leaving behind a place we rather like and a hotel that Lyndon B. Johnson 36th U.S. President stayed in just down the corridor. We'll take the Nissan this time to Barcaldine and be back on the SB. Two bottles of which shall accompany us.
ps. We can't get our head around the tourist seasons here. A lot of places remain closed here until the peak season starts in April. The swimming pool on the other hand is going to close now because it is end of season.
pps. The lady who runs the pool said she had resigned from the police because she couldn't stand the politics of the job. Going touring.
ppps. LBJs visit was in 1942 long before he became president. His flying fortress in which he was travelling came down to be refuelled so naturally he stopped in our hotel.

What Factors To Consider While Getting Fencing Installation?
Any commercial or residential property gets a complete frame with fencing installed around it. This installation around the property adds a sound effect and defines property perimeters while ensuring its security. Regardless of the backyard or front yard size, it is essential to get fencing installations done, and the good thing is that there is a never-ending list of options to use around the property. Defining property's perimeters is one task followed by several others like it enhances the privacy and safety of your property. Most importantly, it restricts any trespassing done by animals or humans.

Why Fencing Installations Are Important For Every Property?
Using fencing around the property has several benefits, and security is the top one. These installations offered by fence contractors are especially useful if you live near a wildlife reserve or any busy street. They are immensely important from a privacy point of view and they will restrict passers-by and neighbours to have a glance of the activities taking place inside your property.
Tumblr media
What Factors To Consider Before Availing Fencing Services From Fence Contractors?
Different fencing options are available, but this doesn't mean they are all ideal. It is recommended that you choose one for your property after considering several factors, such as those discussed below.
The Purpose Of Fencing Installations
You must first decide why you want to fence around your property. Of course, privacy is the main reason, followed by defining property's perimeters. But some factors influence this decision... If you are living in a secure and gated community, you can compromise on your fence quality and use those beautifying the surroundings rather than securing them. Similarly, robust quality fencing is recommended if your region is known for thefts, burglaries and crimes.

Determine The Aesthetics
You are wrong if you think that aesthetics, looks and style must be compromised for security. Several fencing gates options are highly secure and robust and add incredibly to your property's style, design, and looks. There are several options like wood, chain link, stone, etc., if property beautification is the top reason for availing fencing services and installing fencing.
Determine Your Budget As Well
Your budget will significantly influence your decision to get fencing installation done by fence contractors. Different fencing options are available in various budget ranges, and if budget is your main concern, you can still search for options inside your range without compromising security or looks.
