Okay but now I'm thinking a whole bunch about divination and parasocial relationships. I think I could understand it if it wasn't things like "dissect this agent's reaction in this photo toward this celebrity" type stuff. I don't get it personally, but I kind of see why it's a thing... and yet, it's weird. Why do we need to know what the kpop man's future spouse will be like?? And where did this start??? Is it a modern trend, indicative of the increasingly unhealthy parasocial dynamics of the kpop industry and of the internet at large? Or were people doing this with, like, the Backstreet Boys in the 90s?? The Beatles, even????

I'm equal parts horrified and fascinated. It's so strange. It's invasive. And yet, somewhat harmless on its own? On the surface, at least. It’s really up to what others think. But for me I get a little uncomfortable because unless it’s stated they aged him up, he’s still 17 in those fan arts. And it’s not just for him. I feel the same seeing others posting or reblogging smutty fan arts or fics about the characters when they’re still cadets.

I mean, I can't say you're wrong. I don't know anyone's intentions except my own if they don't state them, and maybe it's stupid of me to give other creators the benefit of the doubt as readily as I do. I do think it's good practice for for creators to make note of that, but I obviously can't claim that I've checked to make sure they have in every instance.

I guess really, if it's a point that's going to seriously upset people going forward, my options are to tag artwork like that or just not reblog any more of it... so, if it really makes people uncomfortable with me and this blog on principle, honestly just tell me because if y'all are ambiguous about what you'd actually prefer me to do about this, I might not hit on the right response.

Just a reminder that today would be Iruma's birthday IRL, and an appreciation post for one of the best protagonists out there, who found his true family after much suffering.

Chapter 183 (volume 21) is one of the chapters that make me cry every time I read them. As someone who unfortunately has experienced familial abuse, especially linked to my birthday, seeing Iruma's loved ones coming together to celebrate him and be thankful for his existence is something indescribable.

Hey fanfiction loving friend!

AO3 has the ability to turn off comments, moderate comments, restrict comments to logged in users only, or let anyone comment on your story. Most other fanfiction hosting websites do not allow comments to be turned off and in the case of some (wattpad) highly encourage comments even on individual paragraphs.

Over on reddit, someone said it is an unwritten rule of fanfiction that you should never leave a negative or critical comment on a story. This was countered most strongly by many arguments. Despite many people asserting that their stance was the one truth and that there was no debate on the topic - there was a lot of debate about what criticism even is and where the line should be for if giving concrit is alright.

So give this some thought:

If you have tea to spill, examples or an argument you want to make, please do. I have some that go both ways, but I'm going to wait for a few responses so I don't pre-empt the results. I'm not going to vote myself for a while, either, so I won't know which way the poll is leaning when I do pour my tea. I tried to cover all the flavors of debate I've seen in the many "definitive" posts I have read here and on reddit. Please reblog for a wider sample!

DTS storyline predictions

Now that the teaser for season 6 is out, here’s a few cents on what storylines DTS s6 is likely to go for.

(Health warning that I don’t think these teammate or driver dynamics are necessarily true in real life, I am simply saying that if I wanted to make a bucketload of money as a Netflix producer this is how I’d overly dramatise events)

1. The Matador: Carlos Sainz the hunter, in the shadow of his own teammate, unloved, hungry, determined; his own team dragging him down with a net named strategy; the prey (his teammate) biting back; the hunter chases the bull and emerges victorious.

2. It’s lonely at the top : Caesar is all-powerful, but the council has knives; over 10 minutes of screentime will be spent on George and Max (dickhead!); checo’s early challenge for the crown at Jeddah; Max’s all out crushing of his competitors’ efforts; Max as a polarising figure.

3. The prodigal son/the resurrection of Lazarus: Daniel Ricciardo’s fall, rehabilitation, and triumphant return; Christian Horner dragging Zak Brown; returning “home” to Red Bull but it’s like a den of wolves (perform or die); THE BROKEN HAND (pain suffering hospital); brief victory at Mexico (Daniel did well that race).

4. The Young Guns: Oscar’s meteoric season vs Nyck’s crash out of F1; Logan struggling to keep his seat; cutthroat Marko vs supportive dad Vowles (Qatar will be milked to death for dangerous conditions).

5. The Old Hands: Fernando Alonso and Lewis Hamilton, old rivals, still desperate and hungry like a pair of lions still battling for the top; the inverse fates of Aston Martin falling vs Mercedes rising as the season progresses

6. The Older Sibling and the Prodigy: McLaren’s rollercoaster of a season; Lando’s run of P2 but no wins; Oscar’s sprint race win; jealousy, rivalry, hunger, bitterness.

7. The Civil War: the infighting at Alpine, childhood friends turned rivals turned bitter enemies; Esteban’s no good very bad penalty day; Esteban’s Monaco podium; Pierre’s Zandvoort podium; their no holds barred infighting on radio; team orders; management chaos (Otmar leaving)

8. Man overboard: Mark my words DTS will spend a whole episode on Guenther ending in his abrupt departure from Haas and he will be sent off with 300% more respect than four time world champion Sebastian Vettel.
