THIS IS JUST ME YAPPING ABOUT SOMETHING I THOUGHT WAS INTERESTING
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Most of the fandom treats these two as interchangeable, and on some level they might be, BUT I THINK THERE HAS TO BE SOME DIFFERENCE. The first image is the "irken elite" uniform they use (or we're going to use) on invaders in training in The Trial. The second one is the uniform used in the comics on invaders in training.
Tumblr media
Commander Poki (leading the invaders in training) in the comic has a uniform and symbol that somewhat resembles the irken elite uniform from the trial. Since in the trial it was a more professional event (tallest Spork's induction? as tallest) I feel that mayhaps the uniform used in the trial is a kind of formal attire for irken elites/invaders in training. We could also perceive the trial to happen BEFORE they are being trained as invaders, perhaps meaning that they become irken elites and then transfer them to invaders in training. ("THEY'RE TRAINING YOU TO BECOME AN INVADER?! WHY?!" -Purple). But I doubt this since spork calls them "invaders in training" in the present tense. ("As your new tallest, I'm proud to say that you invaders in training are the future of the empire!" -Tallest Spork).
Though, we could also interpret this event as the induction of irken elites to irken invaders in training which just so happens to correlate with Spork becoming the new tallest around that time. I also doubt this though, because ZiM killed miyuki leading to spork becoming the new tallest. That likely would not provide him enough time to take the step in becoming an irken elite if we assume that's the step before becoming an invader. We could also brush that off as the control brains making the decision to have him skip that step to be with his age group, as they also made the call to send him to vort science laboratory for being to destructive (which no other irkens were, and which is probably not standard procedure.) At least I assume the control brains made that decision.
ANYWAY, My theory is that either
A. Elite uniform is formal attire and invader in training uniform is field work / work attire
or
B. Irken Elites and Invaders in Training are different steps, elites likely coming before invaders in training due to the invaders in training wearing the elite uniforms as Spork calls them "the future of the empire" (also calling them invaders in training).
Most likely scenario is that they are synonyms and they just decided to change the uniforms because the trial wasn't canon/never got officially made. But it's fun to think about?

🤥 LYING - are they good liars? do they have tells to show they're lying?, 🍰 CAKE SLICE - favourite cake flavour? are they specific about types of cakes?, and ☁️ CLOUD - a soft headcanon for the Outlier, please?
Tumblr media
I chose Fizz for this one! He is a terrible liar, mostly because usually it doesn't even occur to him to lie. He'd be a terrible spy unless his job was infiltrating a school of fish.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Soft headcanon for the Outlier! When he was a kid, his best friend was a moth plushie. ...which is actually more sad than it is soft, but the plushie itself was soft, so I'm counting it.

Invader Zim Deathmatch:
ROUND 2, FIGHT 1:
TALLEST MIYUKI VS COMMANDER POKI!
Tumblr media
The fight must be one on one so no outside help is allowed, but prep time is allowed.
The rule for prep time is that if one contestant gets prep time, the other contestant gets an equal amount of prep time as well.
[Masterpost]
Information about both contestants (who they are, powers and abilities, etc) can be found under the cut.
Contestant Stats:
Commander Poki:
“Really shouldn’t have sent Zim on that suicide mission”
Appearances:
Commander Poki only appears in Issue 25 of the Comics
Powers and abilities:
Irken physiology (can lift over 3 times their body weight and is extremely durable)
PAK (PAK legs, PAK lasers, shield generator, all the things an Irken PAK can do)
Advanced military training (Commander Poki is a senior commander of various Irken forces, including Invaders-In-Training. They have the armour and markings of an elite soldier, so we can assume that Commander Poki’s full rank is something like Senior Elite Commander. Point is, they have a LOT of military training and experience under their belt)
Fun Fact:
With an androgynous appearance (exposed eyelashes but straight antenna) and never being referred to with any gendered titles (the closest we get is the gender neutral “Senior-Commander-PERSON-Poki”), Commander Poki is one of two canonically non-binary irkens. Also due to some facts about Irken biology and gender, they’re one of the two canonically cis irkens for the same reason.
Tallest Miyuki:
“Why did we never get to see you?”
Appearances:
Miyuki only appears in the unfinished episode “The Trial”
Powers and abilities:
Irken physiology (can lift over 3 times their body weight and is extremely durable)
Massive Height (as the Tallest, Miyuki is the tallest Irken alive. This is mentioned as a power because Irkens can lift over three times their body weight and since Miyuki is way bigger and therefore heavier than most other Irkens, she can lift WAY more as well)
PAK (PAK legs, PAK lasers, shield generator, all the things an Irken PAK can do)
Hovering: (as a Tallest, Miyuki has access to special equipment that lets her hover above the ground. This improves her movement speed and general maneuverability, but doesn’t grant her the ability to truly fly)
Fun Fact:
Despite being constantly depicted as blue by fans, no coloured pictures of Miyuki or anything confirming her colour actually exist.

When did commander Poki tag along to join Mem? Who else from their empire joined her?
Has any of the male tallest impregnated the shot females? Do they keep them comfy in the tallest chambers or do the service drones keep tabs?
Poki "I ran into Zim by accident when I went searching for my missing blood blade team members.*
Prior to this, the last time I saw Zim was on conventia.*
Zim and I lived together for a while; a year or so. He's a pariah, so I had to house him in secret. She went by Xeem for for a while. That was a fun year.
Zim brought me to earth as a plus one for a human mate unification celebration being thrown for his favorite Dib-monkey. What did they call it? A wed-ding? We had to wear nice gowns and fancy lace gloves, but the bar was bottomless and the humans were an entertaining bunch, so I can't complain. Actually, that wed-ding celebration was one of the funnest nights of my life...
We parted ways shortly after that. Zim decided to stay behind on Earth for a while. He never said why... Something told me I had done something or said something wrong, but I had no idea what and I didn't want to risk the comradery between us to ask or argue.
I had to return to my post or risk getting in trouble for abandoning my encoded occupation.
I kept asking around for leads and diligently watched the news stream for any clues about my blade team. The second my pub manager approved of it, I took time off to start my search again. I eventually found my missing blood blade teammates on the far outskirts of the foodcourtia system. Turns out my ladied were being held captive by Resisty rouges.*
To make a long story short, I attempted to rescue them from the resisty ship, but I underestimated them. My ladies and I ended up crash landing on Mem's planet trying to shake them off our trail. My cruiser's point of impact was a twenty day march away from the others, but we eventually reuinted again.
That's when I met that glorious battlefield of a woman... wish I had known her centuries ago."
*Poki was on a competitive blood blade team with Tak, Tenn, Yeet and their blade-leader, Zee. They showed up for practice one season and the only other teammate not on the public MIA drone list was Yeet.
*Poki, at the time the events of the 18YL au begins, has been demoted from Commander to a service drone because of drunkenness on duty. They work at a shady pub on Conventia as a tap drone (bartender).
Poki's alcoholism began in her early days as an elite soldier under late Lich's reign. They suffered abuse and several traumatic experiences because of their superior co-invader, Ziss, during Operation Stealthy Doom (invaders were sent to enemy planets in pairs then) She became a Commander after operation SD during Miyuki's reign.
So far, the list of Irkens who take refuge on Mem's mystery planet are Tak, Tenn, Zee, Floog and Larb. Skoodge ends up stranded there a little while, but leaves with one of Mem's daughters, Skathe.
Ooh! Didn't answer the second part of the question.
Very rarely is a male tallest able to sire a swarm of his own. They have fertility issues too. (Sometimes they can't form a *sqwak. Others could, but their sqwak "lacks potency" or they're afraid their sqwak might be too long and literally impale a short drone. How attentive they are to their birthing drones depends on the tallest. Some barely interact with their birthing drones at all. They assign service drones and medical drones to tend to them. Others treated their birthing drones like a loving human husband would treat their wife and shower them with attention and perks.
*sqwak; a temporary, sharp-ended appendage that forms in irken males during mating seasons. Sqwaks break off after successfully penetraiting a females shmizz (a fleshy layer on the irken pelvic floor that forms a temporary uterus after being peirced by a sqwak.
Yes, if done improperly, mating for Irkens can be painful and cause death.

Elite Commander Poki redesign and Invader Training Headcanons. (Futher info under cut)
Elite Commander Poki was Almighty Tallest Miyuki's second in command and most trusted advisor- As such she continues to wear the Irken Elite Miyuki Branding even after her death.
Her reassigning following the Initiation of Red and Purple involved the training of worthy soldiers to become Invaders for the upcoming Operation Impending Doom.
Much like Irken Slave Drivers and other Irkens in commanding positions, she wears a suit that makes her appear taller than she really is.
She's a no nonsense drill sergeant type- but below the surface she still hasn't gotten over Miyuki's death and often sees her failing students as a disgrace to her awesome legacy.
Tumblr media
Contrary to what you might think, Irken defects are actually quite common.
The Control Brain's Irken Bioengineering Program contains an intentional margin of error- Allowing new or odd genetic properties to emerge and potentially be added into the base database for wide spread implementation.
The term "defect" however is reserved for specimens with genetic irregularities that are seen as problematic to the overall objective of the Empire.
But seeing as how defect Irkens are relatively common, it's no surprise that there were quite a few of them who were trained to be Invaders.
Tumblr media
These 4 are proper defects in the sense that their irregularities are not seen as particularly useful.
Zim
•Intense and obessive thought patterns, for lack of a better word, Irken neurodivergency. Brilliant in some respects, but moronic in others.
•Capable of parental love from both ends of the spectrum. Looks up to his leaders much like one would a distant parent, and shows intense affection for his minions.
(This is very odd as most Irkens just see their helpers as tools and affection is looked down upon.)
•Selective hearing and auditory processing problems.
Skoodge
•Capable of romantic love and friendship. He is hated for this and seen as "soft"
•In love with ZIM specifically. He has such terrible taste that it counts as a separate defect.
•On the heavier side. He is seen as ugly for this but it actually makes him much more resilient to physical damage and can go without his Pak for much longer than 10 minutes.
(This is me attempting to justify that time they forgot to draw his Pak for a whole episode lmao)
Grinn
•Warped antennae. This distorts her senses and makes her very irritable to certain noises.
•A natural aversion to taking orders and a frequent questioner of the Empire's System.
•Covered in horrible red blemishes. She has an overactive immune system that manifests in extreme bodily reactions to minor stimuli.
(This is one of the worst defects to have when you drop out of the Invader Program and work in a literal garbage chute)
•Writes poetry
Skutch
•Actually evil. Like. Even by Irken standards.
•Will set things on fire for seemingly no reason.
•Rarely ever speaks and when he does it's incredibly vulgar. The only Irken that says Fuck.
•Has no soul, wants or desires. He only lives for the mild fascination elicited from watching the life drain from a living thing's eyes.
Tumblr media
These 4 are seen to have more useful defects- Or in other words, they're "Gifted" Irkens. Okay not Gustavo but because he's tall he managed to not get lumped in with the last 4.
Grenty
•Intense regenerative properties. In fact, she struggles to control it properly and will just randomly grow new limbs.
Her regeneration is so good that she is essentially impervious to damage so long as her Pak remains intact.
•Irregular blood viscosity. Needs to be regulated with a patch.
•Overbite.
Mote
•Likes smooth Jazz
•Oversized antennae- He has insanely good sense of his surroundings and is tormented by having to accidentally hear everyone's horrible secrets he never wanted to know.
•Very frail
Fleep
•Abnormally physically powerful. She could break the arms of every other trainee here.
•Sort of capable of friendship but only the kind shared between High School Prom Queens and their evil lackeys.
•Otherwise very competent and professional.
Gustavo
•I hate Gustavo
•He's really friendly and normal by human standards but an UTTER FREAK by Irken standards.
•Joined the Invader program because he wants something to fall back on when he becomes a freelance advertising consultant.
•Gustavo must die.
•Is tall enough that the bias of the system has prevented him from being killed. (Unfortunately)
ALSO WORTH NOTING-
Zim is responsible for the deaths of most of the people here- The only ones to survive his Operation Impending Doom screw up were Skoodge, Skutch, and Grinn.
(Grinn never became a real Invader, Skoodge is basically immortal, and even Zim knows not to mess with Skutch.)
I imagine that most of the Invaders assigned to Operation Impending Doom 2 were from the generation after Zim and were still in training during the first operation.

Filipe: You must be married to another version of me from another universe. I’m sure he’s happy being with you!
Smollett: FILIPE!!
Filipe: Yeah?
Smollett: I require assistance! Can you distract these 3?!
Filipe: Yeah, sure! It was nice answering you!

So spoiler thoughts on one of the new kodan characters ahead
So Poky is basically just Braham 2 right?
He's a young adult with a dead mother who, though he means well, tends to rush headstrong into things without fully thinking his decisions through.
He's from an alpine culture and, while he starts out earning a fast respect for the commander, starts to chafe against their desire for caution. He wants to just go after the main threat menacing his people right away, and damn the consequences.
I swear he might even have Braham's voice actor too, though I'm not certain of it.
Now don't get me wrong I like em both, but there sure are a lotta parallels between the two.

Invader Zim Deathmatch:
Round 1, Fight 2:
Virooz vs Commander Poki!
Tumblr media
The rule for prep time is that if one contestant gets prep time, the other contestant gets an equal amount of prep time as well.
[masterpost]
Information about both contestants can be found under the cut.
Contestant stats:
Fitzoo-Menga (Virooz):
“Ex-president of the Zim fan club”
Appearances:
Virooz is the main villain of the Virooz Arc of the comics, spanning Issues 21-25.
Powers and abilities:
Extreme engineering skills (was able to build his own version of an Irken PAK and successfully upload his mind into it)
Expert hacker (hacked into the Irken Military Archives, presumably on multiple occasions, and managed to hack into Gir and corrupt him with a virus)
Quadrillionaire (a VERY successful businessman, having enough money to buy entire planets)
Connections to multiple powerful mafias and gangs (every mafia, gang, and criminal organization on Cyberflox knows, respects, and is terrified of Virooz to the point where even asking about him will set off a paranoia-induced gunfight and those that go searching for him are immediately assumed to belong to a rival gang attempting to steal territory simply due to how much power Virooz has over them)
Cybernetics (he’s got a lot of them and none of them are necessary for him. He doesn’t even need the chair he’s constantly seen in. He just thinks it all looks cool)
Self-made PAK (Virooz’s PAK can upload his mind into various things, including irkens. It also has an emergency reattachment protocol and built in speakers. Virooz claims that it can do anything that an Irken PAK can do, but we see no proof of that besides the mind storage and emergency reattachment protocol. It also plays music)
Fun Fact:
If this guy appeared in the show, Hal Stewart from Megamind would be the perfect voice for him. I will stand by this fact.
Commander Poki:
“Really shouldn’t have sent Zim on that suicide mission”
Appearances:
Commander Poki only appears in Issue 25 of the Comics.
Additional thoughts:
You know, this fight could have actually theoretically happened in the right circumstances. Virooz hacked into classified Irken military records and is connected to many, MANY different mafias and organized crime groups. The Irken Empire sending a member of the military after him is perfectly feasible

*me giving a look to @salad-tales at who I said right out of the bath "one of them will die." so convincingly she thought I said a spoiler*
...
Oh you know one of them will die. Daddy would be too obvious though...............
Just saying
I mean this in a good way but Poised Arrow really feels like Anet taking the chance to try Braham's character again
like I really like Braham as he is but he's undeniably divisive as a character and Poky reads to me as Anet going back to the character Braham started out as
I will be pissed if Stoic Alder dies tho

A venn diagram of the queer/neurodiverse content depicted in Invader Zim. I've already talked about the inherent queerness of Zim and mentioned a few times that there’s a big overlap with autism/neurodiversity but I thought this would make a handy reference. Note that “neurodiversity” isn’t just autism/ADD/ADHD but also includes mental illness, personality disorders, mood disorders, learning disabilities, and anything else that isn’t “neurotypical”.
On the queer side there is actual canon queer rep in the show and comics:
Irkens are canonically aroace and intersex.
Groyna from the comics was confirmed by Eric Trueheart to be a lesbian.
Commander Poki from the comics may be trans, as she has eyelashes normally only seen on female Irkens, but lacks the curled antenna every other female Irken is shown to possess.
Recap Kid's gender is deliberately ambiguous.
There are also many instances of queer-coding that can be seen throughout the show such as:
The homoerotic rivalry between Zim and Dib.
Red and Purple basically being Zim's two gay dads.
Zim and several other characters having campy and dramatic mannerisms.
Zim using Keef and Tak as beards.
Zim and GIR wearing make-up/cross-dressing and generally not concerning themselves with or even being aware of gender conformity.
That time Dib's personality was copied into the body of a female ship which became very distressed at being told it wasn't really a boy and changed its physical appearance to match its brain.
Other queer elements featured in the show include:
Female characters who aren't love interests/show no interest in romance.
Most characters showing a general lack of visible interest in the opposite sex or romance.
The Membranes being a non-traditional family (single dad with no mom, later acquiring two more dads in the form of Foodio and Clembrane). Irken society not being structured around family units at all.
Satirical depictions of nuclear family units (Zim’s roboparents).
Transhumanism.
Kink/Fetish content including tentacles, bondage, domination, tongues, sadism, mind-control, body morphing, gore, food/eating, bodily fluids/fluids in general, Giger-esque designs, etc…
On the Neurodiverse side we have:
Zim’s food sensitivity.
Zim’s germophobia.
Zim’s dislike of being touched or hugged.
Zim seeming to suffer from sensory issues in general.
Zim getting overstimulated on the bus in Walk of Doom.
Zim and Dib infodumping.
Zim’s idiosyncratic speech mannerisms.
Characters having high intellect paired with poor social skills/low emotional intelligence.
Hyperfixations and special interests.
Zim’s struggles with multi-tasking and keeping his priorities straight.
GIR being easily distracted and unable to focus on anything that doesn’t immediately interest him.
Characters having poor volume control.
Characters having mood swings or trouble regulating their emotions.
Zim’s issues with memory.
Dib hyperfocusing to the point of neglecting hygiene.
Zim’s “problem with listening”.
And in the middle where they overlap there’s:
Zim and Dib being outcasts, misunderstood by everyone around them, and only able to connect with other misfits like Gaz, GIR, Keef, each other, and random hobos.
Zim masking his otherness and putting on performative displays of “normalcy” and having a well-founded fear of the consequences of being discovered.
Dib being open about his otherness and looking for respect and acceptance in the face of overwhelming ridicule and contempt.
Dib being pressured by his father to conform in order to please him.
Dib finding that the social benefits of conformity aren’t enough to outweigh the pain of not being his authentic self in Mopiness of Doom.
Dib’s experiences and perspectives being trivialized, dismissed and medicalized as indicators of mental illness.
Dib actually being mentally ill, but only as a result of not being accepted or supported for being different.
The eugenicist dystopia of the Irken Empire, where Zim is labeled “defective” and sentenced to death rather than treated for the mental health issues caused by the society that created him.
Daddy issues/familial rejection/non-acceptance.
Zim and Dib’s struggles with depression.
Zim and Dib’s need to prove themselves to gain validation and acceptance.
Zim and Dib being victims of bullying and in turn bullying others to feel a sense of power.
Dib’s self-loathing.
Zim’s default state being paranoia and anxiety.
Zim and Dib’s self-image issues.
And of course the one thing that binds us all: alternative fashion.
