002: Trobed

when i started shipping them: early 2921 when i started community

my thoughts: they were so queercoded and from a story telling perspective a lot the plot lines can really only make sense if they were romantically inclined but dan harmon was a coward and they liked benefiting from trobed shippers without wanting to make them canon. but they are in my heart.

what makes me happy about them: they are so utterly in love but like they care so deeply for each other. they made each other feel safe and seen in a way they never expected or thought possible

what makes me sad about them: the mutual pining with no closure and how they both found their person and specifically with abed, troy chose to leave him. and abed was hurt but more importantly mad at himself for being hurt because he should’ve seen it coming because that’s what people do, come into his life and make him care about them and then leave.

things done in fanfics that annoy me: i haven’t really seen anything, i guess i’m mostly bothered when the voices of the characters are wrong or when they’re written out of character?

things i look for in fanfics: angst 🫶 but also shenanigans and closure

my wishlist: idek i just want them to be canon community movie don’t let me down 😭

my happily ever after for them: abed is a successful director and troy is a billionaire but he finds odd jobs both for plumbing and ax repairs just cause it’s fun and easy and he doesn’t charge much bc he doesn’t need the money. they live this nice ass house bc they’re nerds and would love something big and dumb and fancy (but at the end of the day all that letters is they’re together). troy is a dog person and abed is a cat person and they fight ab which one they should get until they both come home with their desired pets and simply accept this life. i don’t know if i see them having kids but i’m not specifically against it

ULTRAMAN’S COMIC BOOK ADVENTURES CONTINUE

So Marvel Comics announced this week that they will continue the comic book adventures of Ultraman, entitled The Trials of Ultraman, startng in March 2921.

Here is one of the covers of the new series by Art Adams.

Not sure right now if this new title is going to be a mini-series like The Rise of Ultraman or an ongoing.  I’ll wager that Marvel will continue to release the stories as mini-series until they see that sales will support an ongoing title.

The new series will be by the same creative team that wrote and drew The Rise of Ultraman.

Although Rise is not finished yet (still one issue to go) I have been underwhelmed by it, so news that the same creative team is on the new series has me less-than-enthusiastic.

I am probably in the minority right now since sales on Rise have allowed for the story to continue  And I will purchase Trials in the hopes that it will get better, because some Ultraman is better than no Ultraman, and Marvel knows they can take my money as long as they can get Art Adams to do some covers.

Operational Highlights

George Takei’s powerful graphic memoir, They Called Us Enemy, was published by IDW Publishing’s (IDWP) Top Shelf Productions imprint and climbed to #2 on the New York Times bestseller list for paperback nonfiction.

At IDW Entertainment (IDWE):

Season one of October Faction and V-Wars are in post-production and are scheduled for delivery to Netflix in Q4 CY2019;

Locke & Key has completed principal photography of season one and is scheduled for delivery to Netflix in Q1 CY2020;

Wynonna Earp has been greenlit for a fourth season.

Financial Take-Aways

Revenue increased to $11.5 million from $7.8 million in 2Q19 and decreased from $14.2 million in 3Q18. The sequential increase reflects sales of They Called Us Enemy at IDWP, and seasonally strong sales at CTM Media. The year-over-year decrease reflects licensing revenue at IDWE from season three of Wynonna Earp recognized in 3Q18 and, at IDWP, revenue from Zombies vs Robots recognized in 3Q18 as well as industry-wide softness in the direct market channel.

Loss per share decreased to ($0.20) from ($0.61) in 2Q19 and increased from ($0.08) in 3Q18. The sequential improvement was driven primarily by seasonally stronger tourism-derived revenue at CTM and sales of They Called Us Enemy at IDWP. The year-over-year increase was driven primarily by the revenue decreases mentioned above and IDW Media Holdings’ initial investment in Clover Press.

IDWE expects to recognize revenue and expenses from the productions of October Faction and V-Wars upon delivery to Netflix in Q4 CY2019.

IDW Media’s cash balance at July 31st was $13.7 million.
