So I've been thinking about a new type of content creation.
Not new in general. Just new for me. Something I've never tried before.
Been tossing an idea around in my head for months, and it never goes past just imagining what it would be like. But it started with a Snap that I sent a group chat on Snapchat one day. I recorded myself studying and sent it to the group chat because we were all just talking about what we were up to. And they said that the lofi, the lighting, the cute stuff on my desk, my handwriting, the sound of the pen on the paper -- it all made them want to just go to sleep, that it was just so cozy lol. "You should make a youtube channel or a tiktok," they said. I have often wondered if it's something I should put effort into. I enjoy playing the "come [insert hobby here] with me" videos in the background when I want to relax. I could easily do "come crochet/write/study/game with me" videos. Lots of royalty free music out there, and I can always change the desk decor around, and the LED colors of my desk lol. Any thoughts? It might even motivate me to put effort into my pastimes if I feel like other people are getting enjoyment out of it. Plus I want to give off this type of "we make mistakes here, but it's okay!" type of vibe. Like if we drop a stitch and gotta frog our work, we say it's okay and go back and fix it. If we die in the video game and have to start over, it's okay, we learned something for next time. But I would want to make it clear that none of my videos are for tutorial purposes, just relaxation. A pocket of the internet where you can go and be cozy. And probably won't do any voiceover on any videos because it might break immersion.
Bottom line is: how many people out there enjoy this type of content? I'll probably make a poll as well.

And finally, more crochet! After I finished the rocky horror lips, I felt this vague urge to clear out patterns I'd acquired and never made, and when I looked at my ravelry stash, obviously shuttle the shongololo was the first thing to catch my eye. Yes, it was a free pattern, not money I'd spent going to waste, but come on. IRRESISTIBLE.
I did do some modifications on the fly, because it's written for dk yarn (and a lot of it), and i have very little dk, but SO much worsted, including the variegated stripe yarn I was absolutely determined to use for the body. I think I multiplied recommended hook size by 1.5 all over and just went for it! Checking the gauge? In THIS economy?? But it was a huge success, even though I VASTLY underestimated how much material it would take and despite intending to use up my stash, I had to re-up on supplies multiple times (between yarn, stuffing, and breaking my hook, it was like. seven trips). I must inform you that there's so much material in this thing that when I tossed it onto this bed, it rolled off the other side and sounded like a body hitting the floor. It's huge, and it's HEAVY.
But the results are undeniable! Holding two stands of multicolor yarn with the same gradient pattern and just making sure they never sync was SO cool. And the underbelly is a velvet yarn that's sooooo so soft, I love it so much. However, 132 legs. That was... unfortunate. But I'm a creature of fleeting memory! And when I recovered a little, I started thinking about the short pillbug version of the millipede, and I started thinking about my yarn leftovers, and, well, here we are. I used one strand of a different gradient yarn to mix it up a little, and also, to avoid even more shopping trips, but oh man. OH MAN. This pattern is something I probably won't do again, but it is very, VERY fantastic
#crafts#crochet#they have been dubbed punch buggy and rapid transit#not by me i don't have that naming things instinct#but that just means I'll never in a million years come up with better ones!#shuttle the shongololo

I regret to inform you I appear to have gone entirely up my own ass as a crocheter. Watching a video of someone saying, "The 3.5 is a really small hook" and my first thought was, "What? I'm using one right now! It's a perfectly fine size!"
Y'all, I am making shorts using #3 thread. The other projects in my current pile are the Barda costume, on 4.0, the beaded skirt on a 2.25 mm, and the fingering weight shirt on a 3.0.
No need to ask reddit. I am, in fact, the asshole.
#crochet#crochetblr#my mother once said to me “no one crochets like you”#and I went#“oh come on! Lots of -- wait. Wait. No. I hear it.”

How It Started vs How It's Going
Twelve years ago, I picked up a crochet hook to pass the time while dealing with newly diagnosed chronic health issues. Now here I am doing amazing things with yarn 🥰
#bookbird babbles#snapshots#crowchet behavior#fiber arts#that post has. bad comments on it.#but i keep it to keep track of how far ive come 🥰🥰#(bad in the sense people were being dumb about me learning to crochet lmao)

Despite my consistent struggles with drawing, I picked up a new hobby this year in the form of crochet :> It's something I've wanted to learn for a long time and I'm pretty much addicted to it now. So mission accomplished, I guess!
This was my very first amigurumi attempt, and while the chunky yarn made the process a bit difficult, I think it was a good start! I've been learning a lot so that's what matters. Plus, the finished plushie is just so darn cute. I followed this tutorial to make this little stingray, if you'd like to make your own!
#crochet#amigurumi#stingray#thankfully crocheting is keeping me sane as I wrestle with frustration related to art#I'm at least glad to be making something even if I can't manage to draw#there will definitely be more crochet projects to come

You know you into yarn when you have headcanons about what spindles characters would particularly like, what they prefer to do with the yarn, what type of wheel spinner they are, and who has 17 projects going on at once (Anakin) vs who’s gonna focus almost entirely on one project as they go through thought spindle spinning a fine yarn, plying and washing enough of it for a blanket, immediately sticking it on the loom, and weaving a particularly intricate pattern (Obi-Wan) vs who’s the ‘I add the knots of silk and locks so that I can live in the moment and let chunks come out when they need to’ (as if I even have to say it, it’s Qui-Gon)-
ANYWAYS. I actually love yarn and think that yarn craft should be more in fics but that’s sorta like how lots of chefs and bakers make a lot of foodie fics like it’s nice but. Everyone eats. Not enough people care about Scottish spindles. Obi-Wan has 7 Scottish spindles and like 8 Turkish ones so he can make a blanket’s worth of yarn in a single go without having to unwind them and ply right away. Qui-Gon likes supported spindles and a traditional wheel. Anakin designs and makes his own electric spinners, electric yarn counters, and electric cone winders. And then he knits Padme shawls. Qui-Gon crochets blankets and keeps leaving them in the creche or outside random apartments in the temple. Obi-Wan weaves. Anakin spent 5 hours learning how to dye fiber in Padme’s favorite colours, made an electric wool carder to make batts of them, spent a solid 15 hours spinning enough for a massive shawl in lace weight yarn for his wife, knit her one, and then went back to his ADHD project hopping.
I have ideas!!!!!!
#star wars#obi wan kenobi#anakin skywalker#qui gon jinn#yes I have ideas for others but these ones come to me fast#Obi also has drop spindles and he carves his own tools if he suddenly needs one lol#but his fave are Scottish spindles and turks#Qui gon refuses to make yarn that is evenly uniform that’s just bullshit to him#Anakin made an ombré lace shawl in the exactl colour scheme of Padme’s dress on Naboo on the balcony#she’s so obsessed with it she adores it#Qui gon crochets with hooks that don’t have a size because he carved them out of a wonky twig and it’s served him for the past 15 years#Qui is the tweed master if he needs to make it the same SIZE but it’s gonna be full of pops of silk and chunks#spinning yarn#yarn spinning#yarn headcanons

For @redfurrycat, who asked for Sterek, crochet and extreme softness!
Stiles blinks as he drops the basket of blankets he'd been carrying into the spare bedroom as he stares at the five new plastic tote bins sitting neatly stacked along the wall near the closet and sighs. Tilting his head back out enough, he calls quietly, "Derek?" It's no more than a few moments before he feels his husband standing behind him, shift on his feet as he clears his throat. "I know I said I wouldn't buy anymore until I went through a few tote bags but... well." Snorting, Stiles bends enough to grab the basket again and moves towards the closet to put the spare blankets back in it until the next time they get visitors. "And I see you took advantage of the emissary trip I had to take to help Erica and Body out with their pack." "I have plans for it," Derek defend himself, though it was more of a weak one, then anything else. "I'm sure, sweetheart," Stiles teases, turning to give Derek a fond look as he puts the blankets up.

I think Guzzlord was made specifically to spite me. It's got all the things.
Mostly black yarn.
LARGE.
Many distinct parts (more than 12) (at least 22) (tail, body, maw, tusks, tongue, teeth, arms (mouth), arms (head), eyebrows (winged), wings, mini head, legs).
Many spikes Everywhere (on the end of the tail, along the top of the tail, along the top of the body, on the crab mouth arms, on the tongue, inside the maw (separate from tongue spikes), on chin, on mini head).
Teeth (separate from spikes) (four sets (upper/lower yellow/black) (another set if you count the crab arm mouths) (another set if you put tusks in this category because, they are teeth yeah)
Did I mention the mouth spikes? Which ones? The ones on the tongue? The ones IN the mouth on the palate? The tusks? The ones on the arms that are in the mouth?
Last picture I posted I had forgotten to attach the tusks so technically that was a WIP post and this is the real finished crochet post. Gonna round up the time it all took and say 16 hours. An absurd amount of time was spent on the many, many, ..many details. You can't even see them all very well in the pictures, but I promise you they are there. Spikes everywhere. In the mouth. On the tongue. On the mouth. On the body which is basically a mouth. On the arms (both sets if you count the "fingers" on the head arms as spikes). The ball at the end of the tail is covered in spikes. There's tiny wings on the sides. One set is gilded. There's another set if you count the way the eyebrows look. There's a tiny little head on top of the giant mouth head that has 4 tiny little spikes.
#pokemon#crochet#amigurumi#pokemon crochet#guzzlord#art#artists on tumblr#poll#and this is one of my crochets that i think has only 78percent accuracy to the original image which is frustrating#like this guy was made to frustrate me#i am glad i made it sooner than later though but damn. did i mention the spikes.#also i had spent some time carefully plucking the stray bits of stuffing and saturn hair for cleaner pictures#only for saturn to come around and i put guzzlord down and picked up saturn and pet her a bit#and then realized there were more bits on guzzlord. again.#specifically engineered to Get me i swear

Not me as somebody who crochets on the reg getting criticisms/unwanted comments about everything I make:
"You always use the same colors" :/
Me: can't help it I'm a thalassophile and therefore I must always use beige, khaki, turquoise, teal, aqua blues, whites of all shades. Let the coastal creations commence!
"Nice bag. You know, that looks perfect to use only for holidays like Easter"
Me: ...my coastal bag is to be used every time I feel like it. What are you talking about.
"Those oceanic colors don't match with your current outfit so don't use it."
Me: it's not about what looks nice TO YOU but what feels right and fun to use FOR ME.
"Why don't you add (whatever) to your creation. It'd look great if you add (whatever). And, how about next time, you actually use a leather bag bottom instead?"
Me: I don't want to.
"You sure can't take a comment or a slight criticism. Why are you like this?" :/
Me: you sure can't mind your business.
"Why are you doing 2 projects at once. Finish one and start the other I don't get it."
Me: oh you sweet summer child ohohoho...you just don't understand the mind of a crocheter do ya?
"You know, if you make something for somebody it sure won't be coastal themed or whatever. You have to try something different."
Me: who said I'm making anyone ANYTHING? They don't want to pay the correct price for a hand-made creation so that won't be happening. Anyway, ONTO THE COASTAL THEMED SCARF!
#crochet#crocheting#knitting#knit#fiber art#fiber arts#yarn#yarn crafts#yarnlove#crochet art#usually those criticisms and comments come from my mother#lol#other people in public while I'm working are shocked that people still crochet#they're all OMG THAT'S A LOST ART EVERYBODY LOOK#mom on the other hand is all wow can't you try to idk do something else like use more pinks and purples#or my favorite: when are you gonna finish your last project#my mom even got mad at me once at one of my projects and said I didn't raise a daughter to look like a clown so#don't make things that won't match with your wardrobe#🤪🤪🤪🤪#family members get weird when they notice your hobbies#btw my mom doesn't have hobbies#she says she doesn't need any#she says Jesus is her hobby#that's fine but Jesus was a carpenter you know#Our Lord and Savior DID stuff on the side y'know 😂

The most fulfilling thing about art (and why I'm so passionate about it as a concept) is just knowing that this is a piece of you entering this world and being born, and it's as imperfect, messy, and human as you are.
Like, this is my first single crochet, and look at it!
It's lumpy and not even whatsoever, but that came out of my hands. It is, essentially, not unlike a toddler who has just learned to walk with uneasy legs. Would you punish a toddler for toddling, for being unsteady and unrefined? Then why is it that we must punish ourselves for being in what is essentially that same state? Create, even if you cannot run with it. You can still walk with it. You can still crawl with it. But, create
#art#crochet#described images#image description in alt#a lovely lovely crochet youtuber helped me by uploading a video too (it was overwhelming to watch her crochet with me though)#i am going to be so mentally ill about this by the way#i wish i hadn't picked up this acrylic yarn but i got it because it was yellow and so bright and happy-looking#plus it's one of those yarns that come in the huuuuge skeins#my grandma had so many of those skeins and they always fascinated me#this isn't my first time picking up a crochet hook and crocheting but this is my first actual single crochet#whereas i always stopped at a chain#i always talk about how important all of this is but it still feels vulnerable#i was in So Much Pain sitting on my bed to do this 😭

Knitting is a scam.
Anyone who tells you about ANY benefits to knitting is a LIAR!
I have a box of the cheapest yarn I could find AND IT STILL COST ME AN ARM and it takes FOREVER to knit ANYTHING
I don't think my blood pressure has ever been this high in my life
Will I keep knitting? Yes of course I've never seen my grandma, mom and step dad so happy.
BUT I HATE IT AND I WONT PRETEND THIS ISNT THE ART OF SATAN
#knitting#knit#yarn#whatever#dont do it#i wont learn crochet i think it would actually kill me#all of this is because i have to undo a thing that took me a week to knit#it looks like shit#and the measurements were way off#i hate this world#but most of all i hate knitting#thank you for coming to my ted talk
