Oh, what a beautiful critter! tbh, The Silly Critter reminds me of a friend of mine's art! They seem to be a black classic tabby lynx point with white!

had a dream a new cat came to the clan named Chumtail and you loved chumtail but so many readers hated chumtail and you kept trying to make people be at least civil in their hate cause it was getting you down and chumtail was just a silly kitty it was a very weird dream, there was nothing notable about chumtail except the hate they were like the most background background character

Hello! I'm not sure if you've answered this question before, I wasn't able to find anything in a quick search. I was curious, since there are some colors of cats that are predominantly female, are there any colors that are predominantly male? I know some colors are sex linked but I don't know a lot about cat genetics

There aren't any colors that you can look at and go 'hm this cat must be male', but there are a few that are somewhat more common in males: red-based colors.

Cats have a gene called orange on the X chromosome which has two variant, O (red) and o (black). If a cat has only O, it's red-based; if it has only o, it's black-based (this category includes everything from solid black to like... caramel silver shaded tabby); if it has both, it's tortie-based. (Every black-based color has a tortie equivalent.)

Males have only one allele, females have two (normally). So males can be only black or red, not tortie. Let's say the black:red ratio among them is p:q. In this case in females the black:tortie:red ratio would look like this: p²:2pq:q².

In most cat populations o is the more common allele, q is smaller than p, which means q² will be a lot smaller than p². See this diagram i made to illustrate the color distributions:

Here males have a 4:1 black:red ratio, and females have a 16:1 black:red ratio.

As for colors: in blacks the male:female ratio is 5:4, in reds it's 5:1.

Would you call a color where every sixth cat is female "predominantly male"? It's far from torties, where they say around every 3000th cat is male, but still, five times more males.

Had a very rough day, the worst of a long while, as I drew her. Unfortunately I think I’ll associate today with this character for a long time :/

Sorry Sasha, you deserve better than that. And also better than Tigerstar, but oh well.

Design notes!

Honestly I’m surprised I never drew her sooner, what with my love of colorpoints.

Mostly sleek coat, sans the two-pronged cowlicks that are prominent throughout her design.

Very fluffy tail.

Pants!!!

Two “beauty marks” on her face: one below her right eye and one on the left side of her muzzle.

White tips, everywhere. Ears, tail, paws, you name it.

Heart shaped markings on her ears. Her face point is also vaguely heart shaped, but her “hair” hides that.

Whenever I envision her, I always see her with stripes. I think this is a new development; a younger Spotty would have drawn her as far more centralized in her points. But girlie has marks, in my heart.

Scarring includes: None! Soft gal.

I imagine this guy is an overly-friendly kittypet who brings gifts to the weirdo wild cats that live outside their city. They’re too polite to beat up and they keep bringing catmint, so…. daylight warrior gained, I suppose!

this is our sweet sweet boy goose (ft. his baby brother pippin)! we were told he was a shorthair when we adopted him (a lie) but we’ve been told that he’s a flamepoint? when he was a baby he had really obvious orange stripes on his tail that faded away as he got older but the rest of his orange got really dark!

Flamepoint is just another term for red colorpoint cats! Which he is- a red colorpoint with low white spotting.
