possibly only to be rivaled by the Dareth/Ronin the Two Men Who Lack Long-Term Career Plans And Also They're A Bit The Worst Sometimes ship which is just hilarious and strangely fitting which i'm told is called Scruff?? immaculate

both are calculated, both are impulsive. Kai can plan and strategize in the throes of battle, while Zane's only moves in a pinch are Bullshit and Sacrifice. Zane can be overly curious, but he's on guard for manipulators and moles- Kai wants to believe people who are kind to him and it can blind him to other, more practical ulterior motives

at first glimpse, Zane seems hard to get along with and Kai extroverted, but the former's sincerity is clear while the latter obfuscates with sarcasm. even further down, we see Zane repress his trauma and feelings while Kai has outbursts of rage. they contain contradictions within contradictions of their elements

Kai uses his powers to smith, to create new tools and weapons. we hadn't seen the destruction Zane was capable of until the Never Realm, where permanent winters the world and nearly destroys a civilization (yes he's being manipulated and has the forbidden scroll in his hand I know). Skylor uses Kai's fire to forge a friendship and connect with him. Zane uses his heart and elemental power to destroy (mostly) the overlord.

typically, fire is the element of destruction, but I want you instead think of Kai and summer. gatherings and parties and adventures. warm waters and flourishing crops. everyone may be irritable, sweaty, and some sunburned, but it is built on the freedom to choose.

during winter people are together and inside out of necessity. it pulls people closer out of practicality and proximity. among the sparse bushes and trees, the wind chill and ice, are the adversity through which we persevere through. bonded together through change, through experience.

these connections are both one in the same and inherently different. their beginnings may be opposite, but the ending is often the same.

Was reading a review for Link Click (a FANTASTIC series btw) and someone commented that the characters had the BL “contrasting hair trope” so the fans would think they’re cute, or whatever.

Consider this a PSA that in anime, paired characters that have contrasting black and white hair are almost always representing yin and yang. A few other visual motifs that reference yin and yang concepts are missing eyes (in Mushishi they even contrast this with a monocle), facial scarring, and arrows (think Killua’s skateboard or Aang’s tattoo).

Sure, the fan service brings in the audience, but many creators are trying to make something meaningful, too.

Long Armed Gibbon (Gibby):

Personality: She's a tough cookie who's kind of anti-social. She's basically like Bakugo except not as explosive, and more reserved. She thrives from fighting; the fight thrills her. She rarely smiles (usually it's fighting that gets her to smile.) She's more observant than she seems.

Powers: Her arms can stretch and grow really far. Her spiky hair can come off and shoot down like mini-shooting stars. Basic shape-shifting powers. Super strength almost as strong as Wukong's. Can travel to different planets. And random etc. celestial powers.

Physicality: Her clothes are often mostly black. They usually resemble ninja outfits. Her red cape was given to her by Fei Hong (yes, the inside of it is white). The stars represent her star/planet themed powers. Gibbons don't have tails (later she shape-shifts a tail cuz she's insecure that she's the only primate who doesn't have one lol.) She has an upside down heart for her face marking. Golden eyes. Spiky blonde hair. Grey skin.

Red Baboon (Fei Hong):

Personality: She's an introvert but is still good at socializing. She really loves to sleep.. Like, she'll go centuries in hibernation out of sheer boredom. Similar to LBD, she never lies (the closest things she'll do to a lie, is hold back info, or dodge the question.) She's a pacifist and tries to avoid fights if she can.

Powers: She can travel between the mortal realm and the underworld. She's the weakest out of the four, but she makes up for it by being the fastest. She has death vision (she can see how close someone is to dying.) Basic shape-shifting. Similar to Wukong's cloud, she has a red flower that she can float on. Etc. celestial powers.

Physicality: If you google "what colors represent death?" you'll get white, black, and red. Her red skirt represents the death flower, Lycoris Radiata (or Red Spider Lily). Her scythe is her tail (it can transform back into her tail.) Her hair grows quicker than others so she has to cut it more often. Blue and red heart-shaped face marking. Golden eyes. Smooth red hair. Light-tan skin.

Dangerous Romance Background Noise

The opening sequence contrasting Sailom and Kanghan's lives ends with the transition between Kanghan feeling stifled and unbuttoning his black shirt to him unbuttoning Sailom's white shirt against his will.

The yin and yang of it all.

The wind/windmill motif is throughout the credits seen with the windmills and the leaves blowing.

@chicademartinica already pointed out the color of Sailom's uniform being dingy compared to the whiteness of his classmates' uniforms.

In fact, all the scholarship crew's uniforms are faded.

The smiley face being on Kanghan's right side watching the bullying.

The teacher forced Sailom's hand. @bengiyo pointed out Kanghan has an Apple watch while Sailom's is normal, but also, Kanghan doesn't want to touch Sailom.

The Latin in the art room reads "Work Conquers All" which is about hard work and dedication to reach goals.

It speaks for itself.

The discussion about the training of dogs started with a comparison of living arrangements because if the animal doesn't have freedom, he will become disobedient.

@bengiyo also pointed out that the world Kanghan has created for himself is made entirely of discarded items and empty cardboard boxes. He even has a garden of sunflowers (deep love and adoration) with the triptych panels.

they are actually so dear to me acts of service in the form of sacrifice and changing each other's lives for the better by helping each other heal from the past in only a way they can do is always so gutwrenching to see.........truly the sweetest enemies to lovers i've seen in a long time i adore them sm. they're the best thing that could've happened to each other 😭
