Note
Whenever i look up jackdaws it always says “western jackdaw”. Does this mean there’s an eastern jackdaw??? also what’s the difference? (Besides their region)
Yes, while the Western Jackdaw, sometimes just called the Jackdaw, is found in Western Europe there’s another species found in East Asia...

Ok, am I crazy? I could have sworn the genus name Coloeus was not used for jackdaws, both Daurian and Western, until now, but apparently it has been in use for over 10 years now (according to Wikipedia)??? Everything I have been using until now (iNat, bird field guides etc.) had been using Corvus monedula instead of Coloeus monedula. What is happening??? Was it that latest taxonomy change that suddenly got people to switch around everything and make proposed genuses official or what?

A Corvidae Feathursday
Here are some more wood-engraved birds -- both black and white and hand-colored --by British author and wood engraver Eric Fitch Daglish (1892-1966) from his 1948 publication Birds of the British Isles, published in London by J. M. Dent & Sons in 1948 in a limited edition of 1500 copies. Today we display all the corvids from this volume, from top to bottom:
Common Raven (Corvus corax)
Western Jackdaw (Coloeus monedula)
Red-billed Chough (pronounced "chuf"; Pyrrhocorax pyrrhocorax)
Spotted Nutcracker (Nucifraga caryocatactes)
Eurasian Magpie (Pica pica)
Rook (Corvus frugilegus)
 Carrion Crow (Corvus corone)
 Eurasian Jay (Garrulus glandarius)
Read more about this book plus view a hand-colored engraving of a Hoopoe here.
