Chapter 02: The way and rumors to the Town of Astergoth

*Crunch* *Crunch*

A sound that your boots made once they make contact with the snowy path that you walked on. You’ve been walking for approximately 5 and a half hours. You manage to reach a small town called “Silent Mog” that specializes in different crafts, such as baskets and bags.

As you walked to the streets filled with life, you spotted a familiar store. It’s the store that your dearest friend, Leonard Santiago, owned.

You walked towards it, hoping to greet your friend.

As you enter it, the bell rings a small tune and the warm and cozy vibe gives you a sense of comfort. The interior is made up of brown bricks with vents that are connected to the fireplace in the staff room. They have little lamps that light the shop, giving it the signature golden glow.

Chairs and tables to the side and near the window are where they display their products, toys, bags, umbrellas, fans, etc. There is also a huge carpet at the center adding a much aesthetic vibe.

“Oh? I didn’t know you would stop by, (Name).”

 A voice spoke at the back of the curtain.

 “If I had known that you were stopping by, I would have prepared sweets and tea.”

The voice added.

 Soon enough the curtain reveals a young man with shoulder-length black hair and yellow eyes with fair skin. This is Leonard Santiago, a craftsman and a friend of yours. 23 years of age, and he has quite an average height and is dressed in a green t-shirt, a black leather jacket with their logo, brown pants, and black boots. He is the owner of this shop called “Golden glow”.

 He’s fairly handsome and has a quite great personality. He is kind and gentle but can still be serious when the situation calls for it. A lot of ladies within their village had fallen in love with him, but unfortunately, he already has a boyfriend named Christopher Robins, a weaponsmith.  

 “Ah, that is quite ashamed, but don’t worry I’ll leave soon enough.” You said in a calm tone looking around at the store as if you were looking for something.

Leonard smiles and asks “Are you looking for something? Is it perhaps for your sister or for yourself?”

“No, not this time. I’ve noticed that the interior changed. Did you have a renovation or something?”

“Yes, I have to move a lot of things in order to put the machines in the staff room. “

“I see. It certainly gives a much comforting vibe.”

“I know right? I don’t even know why did I not do this much earlier.”

“Christopher must have liked this.”

“Of course, he does. He’s the one who actually suggested keeping the interior.”

Leonard said sweat dropping as he remembered their conversation that day.

“Just keep it. I like the ambiance it gives very much.” Christopher said as he reads the book in his hands.

“Dear…” Leonard sweat drops.

 Ever since he managed to renovate their space, his boyfriend Christopher is very much proud of his work. He kept insisting that it should be kept since he is the one who styled it. He didn’t want his work to go to waste.

It’s been hours after they managed the redecoration, Leonard gives in to his lover’s request, much to Christopher’s liking.

That is the only time that Leonard had seen his lover very proud when it comes in any form of art.

 “Oh? So, it’s like talking to a young child?” (Name) asked. Although he may not see it, Leonard knows his friends long enough to tell that she is actually smiling perhaps even smirking in amusement by just hearing her voice.

“I suppose you could say that. Anyway, how is Alexandrina?”

“Sister is… still the same I suppose…”

“Still the same, huh?” Leonard replied with a sort of worry gaze.

 Leonard had known Alexandrina ever since they were children. In fact, you could even say that they were best friends. He had seen her fight the bandits and tugs in the underground city, fighting everyone with her words just to protect (name). She had become (Name’s) pillar for a long time.

However, ever since she was struck by this disease, she became different and it is understandable. As much as she hated seeing his friend worry over her younger sister, he knows (Name) hated the fact that she was still her sister’s priority rather than herself.

 “- sigh- And I presume that you are on the journey to go to Astergoth? By now you’ve taken the offer of finding the ingredients yourself.”

“Yes. Those healers are quite a pain in the a**. They can’t even provide a simple cure before heading and recommending this elaborate, much expensive one.” You grumbled under your breath.

“Now, now…”  he tried to calm you down.

“Anyway, I should continue my journey, I need to arrive in that town before the moon rises. “ You said as you stand up. Before you could leave Leonard said something.

“Please do be careful, there are multiple rumors circling around that town.”

“Oh? What rumors?” (Name) asked suddenly curious.

Muscles tighten the very moment the other man’s voice reaches his ears, heart thudding against his chest - one, two - while a rock seemingly settles somewhere about his middle despite the agent’s best attempt to remain droll and unperturbed. Harry had sang Patrick Jane’s praises, had sworn up and down that their latest scavenger hunt based on the barest bit of intelligence would be made ten times easier by the addition of outside help ... even Ros had bought into the pitch, spending no less than half an hour regaling the grid with all the ways he could supposedly solve entire mysteries with just a single glance at the wall. 

Secrets laid bare, is how she had described it. Sounds like something to see, he had answered.

A thick weight crawls up the back of his throat, that acrid taste of fear that hasn’t coated his tongue since his return from Russia ..he can feel the way Lucas North had struggled against him, the way his throat had given way with little pops until his breaths were nothing more than a twitch that eventually stopped. 

Lucas keeps his gaze on the computer screen before him, one hand working the mouse with a carefully constructed veneer of calm, and when he finally turns stormy blues in their temporary addition’s direction, the words are nothing more than a droll observation. “Keep throwing out solutions like that and the Home Secretary is going to be quite curious as to how Harry managed to find you.” Weight shifts as he finally turns to face Patrick fully, leaning against the desk as eyes flicker over the other man’s expression as if the agent is doing his absolute best to gauge what the other’s thinking.

“I’ve always found murder to be the act of the truly desperate. Surely we’re not so far gone that you’re suggesting it in less than five minutes of being here.”
