When Winterfest rolls around a few weeks later, Jake is ok'd to travel home for Winterfest. This time Aiden comes with him as well.

Unfortunately there are a lot of things Jake still can't do if it requires standing for a long period of time. His knee is still healing. Though he's improved hugely thanks to being healthy and actually listening to his doctors.

J: I could help you guys, you know.

A: What did the doctor say? It's just decorating a tree, we've got this.

J: Exactly, it's just decorating -

K: BOYS! Don't fight. It's Winterfest.

J: Sorry, mom.

K: Just relax, Jake. If you don't rest you can't recover.

A: That's what I've been trying to tell him.

K: He never did like being sick.

J: Hey! This isn't the same!

Kaylie laughs softly as Jake grumbles, but he doesn't try and get up. He wants to heal despite his grumbling.

A: It's ok. He's all bark and no bite. He complains, but he's been doing everything the doctors want him to do.

K: Good. I knew he was in good hands.

After the tree is decorated, Kaylie gets working on dinner. She can hear Aiden and Jake vaguely talking in the other room and it makes her smile.

When there's a knock at the door, she looks up before calling out.

"Aiden, can you get the door for me?"

A: Of course. I didn't know you invited anyone else?

K: Oh, just an old family friend. It's high time he and Jake met. He was going to spend Winterfest alone, so I invited him.

A: Oh. Okay.

When Aiden opened the door, he was surprised to see a cowboy on the other side.

Colby was just as surprised to see the boy Rocco had been investigating on the other side of the door.

C: Uh. Is this the Lawson residence?

A: Yep. Come in.

"It's nice to see you again, Colby. Colby, this is Aiden Lyons, Jake's boyfriend. Aiden, this is Colby Davidson, he served with Jake's father."

It's been a long time since she's seen Colby face to face, and she's a little nervous about how Jake might react to meeting him.

C: Good to see you too. Nice to meet you, Aiden. House is really different from last time I was here.

K: I've renovated a lot recently, now that Jake was off to college.

A: Nice to meet you too, Mr. Davidson. Should I get Jake?

C: Colby's fine.

K: Why don't you two go into the livingroom instead? It'll be easier on Jake.

A: Sure, no problem.

After brief introductions, Colby nods to Jake.

C: Sorry we never met before. You look a lot like your dad.

J: Thanks. You two.. served together?

C: Mhm. I was there when he died. He was a brave man. I'm sorry I brought him into the fight.

J: If it wasn't one thing, it would probably be another. I don't even remember him.

C: I'll tell you what I can. Didn't know him too long. He was real proud'a you. Always had new pictures. Never missed a call with your mother.

J: Mom doesn't talk about him much, but I know he was a good man. But.. why are you here, now?

C: I think it has something to do with the house your father bought for you and Kaylie shortly before he died.

J: House?

C: Mm. Wanted you two closer to him. Bought a place in Chestnut Ridge. Hadn't told her yet. I delivered the news when I told her about his death.

J: All these years, it's just... sat there?

C: I looked after it, best I could. It's in fine shape.

Food finished for now, Kaylie comes in, having been listening to the conversation.

K: I didn't tell you about the house because I wasn't sure what I wanted to do with it. It was the last part of your father I didn't want to let go.

J: I'm still not sure why you're telling me now?

K: Well, under the circumstances.. I'm giving you the choice, Jake. Chestnut Ridge might be a good place for you two to make a fresh start, if you want. And it's very beautiful, I'm sure it would prove inspiring for Aiden's art.

A: Wait - what?

J: Mom! That's.. a whole house. I don't know.. Aiden?

A: I sell most of my art online anyway, so it doesn't really matter where I do it. Your dad bought it for you.. we should at least look at it?

J: Um. Yeah. Can we do that before we decide?

C: That's a fine idea. I have a farm in Chestnut Ridge now. Let me know when you come down, I'll show you around.

K: That's a good idea, maybe in the spring once your leg is a bit better. Now come on, boys. Dinner's ready.

Wisconsin Headcanons

Wisconsin’s State Spirit is lead gray stripes that cover his forearms, the pattern resembling that of a muskellunge (or muskie). There’s a bit of webbing between his fingers as well as a pelvic fin and back fin on each of his forearms that phase through his clothes. [#6C6C6A]

The muskellunge is the official state fish and the state is one of the best for catching big world record muskies.

Wisconsin is also known as the Badger State not because of badgers, but because of the 1820’s lead miners that dug tunnels to sleep in and keep warm like badgers do.

I have Wisconsin’s physical appearance as Charlie Berens’s. He’s already the Wisconsin guy anyway and it gives a little more variety in looks.

Wisconsin’s eyes are quite piercing and can give off some serial killer vibes.

Eats the most amount of dairy out of anyone in the house. Milk, cheese, ice cream, he eats as much as he drinks, which is to say a lot. It’d make a lactose intolerant person explode.

As America’s Dairyland, Wisconsin is the leading dairy producer. He also beats out California in cheese production.

The first ice cream sundae was actually produced in Two Rivers, Wisconsin. It’s his favorite way of enjoying ice cream.

His tone of voice is often so dry that you can’t really know at first listen if he’s joking or what he’s saying is satire or not.

The Onion, America’s finest news source, was started by two University of Wisconsin-Madison students. The fact that it’s headquartered at Chicago now does irk him a bit.

Wisconsin rides an old-school Harley-Davidson from the 80’s. Michigan helps him maintain it.

Wisconsin is also a surfer, but he prefers surfing on freshwater lakes than the salty ocean. He also prefers kite surfing to normal surfing or paddleboarding.

Sheboygan has been called the “Malibu of the Midwest” due to having the best waves of the Great Lakes.

Barbie is from the fictional town of Willows, Wisconsin. Wisconsin indeed be like:

From This Is Some Serious Waffle House Behavior, Wisconsin decided to keep the gator he found and named him Cheddar. Cheddar is a good boi. Cheddar is precious. Sconnie likes to hug him and protect him and see him smile.

Wisconsin dresses his son in a Packers sweater and a tail sock with his name emblazoned on it to keep him warm in the colder climate. The lovely boy is often chilling next to the heater during colder months.

Illinois tried to sneakily dress Cheddar in a Cubs sweater once, but one warning hiss reminded the state that Cheddar was indeed an alligator and he promptly ran away. 

Wisconsin was able to provide funding to open a new alligator rehabilitation center in Florida with the state’s enthusiastic approval. Gators that have been found in unsuitable habitats are brought there to be cared for and eventually be returned to the wild.

As Cheddar has already been hand-reared and spoiled due to Wisconsin’s inexperience, his son isn’t ready to be released back into the wild. He’s a lot more careful now when caring for new gators. Some notable members of the center are Muenster, Mozzie, Colby, and Brick.

College of Idaho: 2022-23 NAIA Men's Basketball Champions

KANSAS CITY, Mo. – It took 27 years and a thrilling final 20 minutes of basketball for College of Idaho to earn its second national title. The Yotes held Indiana Tech off just long enough to complete its task and earn a 73-71 victory to hoist the coveted red banner.

College of Idaho did what it has done all season and started off the game red hot. The Yotes took control early and broke-off a 19-4 run to get things started. While the offense was impressive, the defense was just as. One of the top five in average defensive scoring margin in the 2023 NAIA National Championship field, the team from Caldwell, Idaho held the Warriors to six points in the first eight minutes, which set the tone.

The Yotes led by as much as 21 points in the first half as Tyler Robinett led the way. The sophomore was three-for-three from three-point range and led all scorers with nine points. Charles Elzie finished the opening frame with seven as Indiana Tech was able to cut the deficit to 19 before the break. Indiana Tech was held to just over 35 percent from the floor and went 1-7 from the free throw line.

Just 24 hours earlier, Indiana Tech erased a 16-point deficit, 11 at the half on their way to a win over Georgetown. On Saturday night, the Warriors looked to do the same and within minutes, began to cut into the lead.

Down by as many as 23 with just over 16 minutes to play, the Warriors put together a 10-2 run to begin climbing back. By the 12:01 mark, Rog Stein knocked-down a three-ball to put Indiana Tech within 13. Three and a half minutes later, the lead was down to 10 as College of Idaho called a timeout to try to end the momentum.

Indiana Tech climbed all the way back as the time continued to wind down. While College of Idaho was able to keep the Warriors at bay for the most part, they finally began to break through in the closing minutes.

The team from Fort Wayne brought it all the way back to within four, thanks in large part to the 18 points provided by Rog Stein, but came just short of repeating the magic of one night ago in the closing seconds.

Jake O’Neil led the Yotes with 15 points and 12 rebounds. Samaje Morgan added 13 points and Tyler Robinett chipped-in 11. In the end, however, it was Charles Elzie that was named the Chuck Taylor Tournament MVP for his outstanding performance throughout. The junior finished final site play with 67 points.

For Indiana Tech, bot Blake Davidson and Max Perez finished with 12 points while Josh Cline recorded 11 to round out the scorers in double digits, along with Stein’s 18.

College of Idaho finished the season on a 36-game win streak after suffering just one loss in the first game of the season to Arizona Christian.

Hello newcomers, i am Kai. I use they/them pronouns. I am pansexual and genderqueer

I will not write anything discriminatory

I write imagines, headcannons, smut and reblog various posts. I do take requests but it varies between being open and closed, make sure to check my bio to know whether my requests are opened or not. Usually I only close requests to catch up.
