james who never asks regulus to wear his hearing aids like his family does. he knows they hurt and would never want his love to be in pain.

regulus who can't stop thinking abt how james' hands move when he signs. he's just so energetic

james who loves the little happy noises regulus isn't aware he makes whenever james hugs him or surprises him

regulus who casts spells to make himself hear for a few hours just to practice saying james' name over and over (as well has his first name paired with james' last)

james who loves to see regulus light up whenever he talks to his parents. he finally has adults in his life who don't want him to change anything about himself

regulus who loves that james snores because he can feel the vibrations and it helps him know that james is still there when he's asleep

regulus who can't help but moan loudly whenever he and james kiss (or anything else) but he isn't aware and james will never ever tell him to be quiet 1.) because reggie would get embarrassed and 2.) because he loves it

There is no bright light. They believe that theory is the humans’ most common misconception of passing on. That in those last precious seconds, an overhead light invisible to everyone else appears above you, and you with eyes that track that light like a moth is enamored by the flame, find yourself pulled to it helplessly, watching it grow brighter and brighter until there is nothing else, until there is only blinding brilliance everywhere you look. This is not so, but They can’t exactly describe what happens either. They, Death, never quite look the same to everyone, like fingerprints and snowflakes. 

Some people struggle against Them, screaming and raging. Others go with Them willingly, as easily as sighing. Some see whatever they want to see. Others see blackness and are grateful. 

They’ve been doing this job for a long time. Since the Dawn of Time and maybe even before that. No rest, no breaks. Everyone must die. Ashes to ashes, dust to dust.

Today is no exception. They swoop down low, counting, weighing their options, charting the easiest path across. It’s not Their job to know what’s next for the dead, only how to get them there. 

A man lies on the ground, limbs splayed. His heartbeat is quiet and growing slower, the final coda in the last seconds of his lifesong. Sometimes Death must be patient. Sometimes people are not ready for him. But this man, unlike so many others, looks ready. Not only is he ready but he’s looking. Looking Death right in the eyes. 

“You came,” he whispers, voice low and croaking. 

I did, Death thinks. 

“You came back to me.” 

Death pauses, trying to remember. This face is unfamiliar to Them. There are close calls, times when They believe Their services are required, but Life persists. He does not remember this man, not his brown eyes or shaggy black hair or the way his laugh lines settle on his resting face, clear signs of a happy, joyous life. 

“Regulus,” the man sighs, and Death feels something in Them twist sharply. The sensation is alarming; never in Their existence have they experienced something like this, like something, someone, is within them, tugging, grappling, clawing its way out. 

Death, the master of the Final Pathway, has carried many souls across the threshold of existence. In a way, the essence of these souls stay with them, like the faint traces of a favorite perfume, grasping the fabric of Their cloak. 

Regulus… yes, the name is familiar. The Heart of the Lion, long dead now, but with an echo still bright enough to glimpse in the sky. Regulus the Star, he knows. But this man spoke the name like a prayer that might save him. 

Regulus, Death tries to remember. Regulus, Regulus, Regulus. With every utterance of the name comes that tidal wave within Them, breaking through the walls of Their ancient mind, flooding Their thoughts with a tsunami of memories. 

Regulus Black. Second son. Noble family. A brother, wild and scared (He did not go with Death gently. He raged against Them. They remember it well.) A mother and father, angry and bitter. Gray and green, stone walls, and bright bursts of light. A boy with a bright smile. James. Notes passed back and forth on crinkled paper. Now a man with the same smile, glasses, hair. A first kiss, flawless. Love that is simple. Love that overflows, love that is right and easy. Limbs tangled in darkness, heat pressed against heat. Children with bright laughs like bells. Aging. Gray hairs and wrinkles. Pain. Joints that don’t bend the way they used to. Still so, so much love. An eternity’s worth. (When you die, that love does not disappear. Love and matter follow the same laws.) 

James, Death realizes, looking at the man. You are James. 

Death knows now what James sees when he looks at Them.

“I love you,” is all James says. His eyes close. 

There is no bright light. But for James there is Regulus, a brilliant, burning star blotting out the dark, welcoming him into the gentle night.

What are some nextgen fics you would recommend? 💖

So I haven't read that much next gen, but what I've read was top quality. This was very delayed because I was searching high and low for a fic, only to realise it was the 5th highest kudos'd Scorp/James fic 💀

Astra Inclinant by eleventy7

James Sirius Potter/Scorpius Malfoy, Harry Potter & Draco Malfoy

"The stars incline us, they do not bind us." For Harry, it's something he learned long ago on the battlefield. But for his son, James, it will be a painful lesson in the form of a friendship with a boy named Scorpius Malfoy.

Fantastic character work and both funny and a real tearjerker at times. I do consider this a literature quality fic. Perhaps not surprising since it's eleventy7. Harry and Draco's friendship here is also really compelling (I ship it, of course).

Houses (orphaned)

James Sirius Potter/Scorpius Malfoy

Scorpius Malfoy goes away to school. And James Potter's legs keep invading his personal space.

I honestly can't talk in much detail on this one as I only read it once several years ago. But I remember I loved the portrayal of all the characters—warts and all. Probably not a fic for those who like Draco depicted as a good father, but I found it realistic, albeit depressing, considering his own upbringing, personality and war trauma.

My all time fave next gen fic is 'Coda to an Epilogue' by Maya, but as I mentioned to you in DMs, I won't link it since it has been deleted. But I loove Harry's character voice, the portrayal of the kids—Scorpius in particular, it's not a common Scorp portrayal... reminds me a bit of Tom, actually—and I love Draco's OC wife. I'd like to see more non-Astoria versions of Draco's wife in fic tbh. Another thing I like about 'Houses'.

Currently I am only writing for 911: Lone Star. 

In the past I have written for 7 others: Teen Wolf, Voltron, Daredevil, Harry Potter, The Flash, Republic of Doyle, and technically 9-1-1 but I don’t know if that counts because it was a Lone Star crossover fic

5) What’s the fic you’ve written with the angstiest ending?

Probably Someday (But Not Yet). I write a lot of angst, but I usually wrap it up with something happy at the end. This one ended with uncertainty and TK breaking down so I think it just might hold the title.  

(Honorable mention to shut your eyes and fall apart because TK dies at the beginning of that one so there is no possibility of a happy ending 🙃)

6) What’s the fic you’ve written with the happiest ending?

The majority of them all have at least somewhat happy endings, but take it, it's yours is just all around really fluffy so I guess that one maybe!

7) Do you write crossovers? If so what is the craziest one you’ve written?

I don’t normally but Jamie and I recently finished our 2x03 coda which was a crossover with 9-1-1, so I have one now which makes that the default answer.

8) Do you write smut? If so, what kind?

No.

9) Do you respond to comments, why or why not?

I want to! I used to, too! Someday I’ll get back to responding, but until then know that if you have ever left a comment on my fic I saw it and I loved it 💕

10) Have you ever received hate on a fic?

Yep 🙃

It’s only happened a few times, most notably with my Nancy/Marjan fic I published last month. It’s not going to change what I write though, so they can just move on with their lives ✌️

Most of the time they come after me for saying I am a feminist which I have some thoughts on, but that’s a whole other post. 

11) Have you ever had a fic stolen?

Not that I know of, and hopefully not at all. 

12) Have you ever had a fic translated?

No, but that would be exciting if anyone ever wanted to try!

13) Have you ever co-written a fic before?

Jame and I just finished our 2x03 coda and, despite the fact that it took us forever, I enjoyed the process and would be willing to do it again 

14) What’s your all time favorite ship?

I’m not usually one much for shipping, but Tarlos has taken over my whole heart and Nancy/Marjan is on the way there too. 

15) What’s a WIP that you want to finish but don’t think you ever will?

I had a Teen TK fic started with Owen’s second wife as the main character and I really still love that idea and the topics I was going to cover (and what I already have written), but I feel like I have covered a lot of that in my Enzo fic it’s pretty likely that will just never happen, which is a little sad. 

16) What are your writing strengths?

I want to say banter, so I guess dialogue would be the technical answer

Not being able to write anything short. 

18) What are your thoughts on writing dialogue in other languages in a fic?

Depends on the situation, context, and characters. I have a lot of thoughts on this too, but no one needs an essay right at this moment.

911: Lone Star, still currently writing it!

20) What’s your favorite fic you’ve written?

Tie between would’ve loved you for a lifetime (I am a sucker for a non-linear narrative) and I am not what you planned (because Dr. Reyes/enemies to lovers)

Wolfstar Archeology

So I did some digging

There is this super awesome fanfic “Not Ever” and I wanted to read some more of the same author, but it is an orphan account on AO3, so I did some small digging and found out that the account was actually hacked and everything was orphaned, there is a LadyFaceElena Masterlist.

As far as I understood, after the hack they published under the name angryspaceravenclaw, nowadays the account’s fics are also orphaned and the tumblr angry-space-ravenclaw is empty, but there is also a Wolfstar fics published under angryspaceravenclaw and LadyFaceElena: Masterlist 1 and Masterlist 2 (all pairings)

Remus Lupin isn't sure what to make of his new flatshare situation.   He's a quiet student with a past, who doesn't date and is determined to keep it that way.  Then he meets his artist flatmate, Sirius Black and his entire world is turned upside down.

There Were Strangers Watching (6k, complete)

Sirius is determined that Remus have some fun before they begin University, so using the money his uncle left him in the will, he drags Remus off to Las Vegas.  Determined to have fun, the boys explore the city, have a few drinks, and wake up...married?  It would all be fun and games if Remus Lupin hadn't been madly in love with Sirius Black for almost five long years.

Padfoot and Moony meet over mutual follows on Tumblr.  Remus, the blind student, hires Sirius, the fallen Aristocrat, to be a reader for his classes.  They fall in love in separate ways, and fall apart.  Then fall together.  Their love is almost as ridiculous as they are.

WolfStar (series, 45k, not complete)

Two worlds collide.  Deaf artist Sirius Black works at his best mate's cafe.  Remus Lupin is an epileptic student from France who is just looking to get by unnoticed.  But the artist sees something he wants in the shy boy, and makes it his mission to see what makes Remus tick.

Fiery-Coloured World (3k, complete)

Sirius knew it would be minutes, moments, seconds before his heart told him he was in love and there was no going back from the emotional tidal wave that was Remus bloody Lupin.

Finally Found My Hallelujah (15k, complete)

Remus Lupin had always been good at sorting out dates and special occasions for people, which is why his best friend and Quidditch star, James Potter, talked him into wedding planning once they left Hogwarts. He lived a solitary, but happy life.  That is, until King Slytherin, Sirius Black, strolls into his office and asks for help planning his arranged marriage.  Remus Lupin is nothing if not a professional, but it's not easy when the groom-to-be was the man Remus had been fantasising about since fifth year.

Remember Me (5k, complete)

Remus Lupin was having an Ordinary Tuesday.  That is, until a strange boy grabs him and offers him money to play the boyfriend.  Remus thinks it will all be fine, until he's pulled into Number 12 Grimmauld place, and finds himself swept away by Sirius O. Black.

Sirius Black--CoDA, outcast, family disappointment, and fairly famous  YouTuber who runs a sign language channel SiriuslySigns with his best mate, James.  Remus Lupin-- vegan hipster who dropped out of University and lives with his best mate Peter, and together run HowlingMoon's DIY, barmy science experiments, and ukulele tutorials channel.  When Sirius becomes enamoured with Moony's singing, he dedicates a sign tutorial in hopes he'll be noticed.  This leads to exchanging of shout-outs and videos, and what Sirius hopes, is a little something more.

Remus is being dragged into the modern century by his son in the form of a brand-new smartphone.  He means to text Teddy, and ends up accidentally meeting, and sharing his plight with another person in the same boat as him.  Though Remus thinks it's just a passing moment, little does he know what wheels have been set in motion.

When Remus Lupin met Sirius Black for the first time, he very nearly killed him.  Now, it wasn’t entirely his fault, something he would maintain for the rest of his life, and Sirius being as dramatic as he was would often remind the taller, tawny-haired man of his very harrowing near-death experience at the front bumper of his car.

Last week, as part of the streaming service’s ongoing plan to bring Warner Brothers’ slate of theatrical releases to audiences at home HBO Max premiered Judas and the Black Messiah on the same day it opened in theaters. Directed by Shaka King, the incendiary historical drama centers on the rise of Fred Hampton, the charismatic Black Panther Party leader, and his tragic betrayal at the hands of FBI informant William O’Neal.  Daniel Kaluuya stars as Hampton, a scorched-earth performance that attempts to recreate the magnetism and magma-like intensity of the revolutionary figure, but Kaluuya is somehow not the star of the film.

The film’s true protagonist is O’Neal, played by LaKeith Stanfield. After getting himself into some hot water, O’Neal is propositioned by FBI agent Roy Mitchell (Jesse Plemons) to either infiltrate the Black Panther Party and report back on his findings or face jail time. At first O’Neal seems to luxuriate in the kickbacks he’s given by Mitchell for his intel but he quickly learns how dangerous it is to lead a double life. O’Neal also has to try to reconcile betraying the very movement he’s spent real time and energy trying to build.

Stanfield’s performance is filled with queasy anxiety and paranoia but also cockroach-like survival tics. It’s an all-time great turncoat performance, worthy of the biblical reference in the film’s title. To honor Stanfield’s turn as “Wild” Bill O’Neil, here’s a countdown of some of cinema’s greatest backstabbers.

Fredo Corleone – The Godfather Part II (1974)

Fredo Corleone, the least intelligent and most ineffectual of Don Vito’s children, has become something of a pejorative term used against anyone deemed to be the lesser sibling in a famous family. Played with a sense of melancholy and knowing pity by esteemed character actor John Cazale, Fredo’s betrayal of his brother Michael is due more to petty jealousy than it is to Machiavellian scheming or dreams of leading the Corelone Crime Family.

As the character pathetically rages, “‘Send Fredo off to do this. Send Fredo off to do that. Let Fredo take care of some Mickey Mouse night club somewhere’… I can handle things! I’m smart! Not like everybody says!” The worst part about Fredo’s actions against his family is that it’s unclear if Fredo actually knew what was being planned against his brother or whether he was just blindly jumping at the opportunity to be important and have something for himself.

Lando Calrissian – Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back (1980)

Perhaps the most lovable backstabber on the list, Lando at least shows some backbone and tries to make up for his nearly unforgivable alliance with the Dark Lord of the Sith, Darth Vader. While serving as Baron Administrator of Cloud City in The Empire Strikes Back, Lando is visited by Vader and bounty hunter Boba Fett and told to help trap his old friend Han Solo and the Rebels seeking sanctuary in Cloud City in exchange for the safety of the city’s citizens.

After selling his friend out, Lando has a change of heart when he overhears Han being tortured and realizes that Vader and the Empire were already reneging on their promises. He helps Leia and Chewbacca escape, and is able to evacuate Cloud City before the Empire is able to retaliate. Later he participates in the near-incompressible plot to rescue Han Solo and serves as a key general in the Rebel Alliance. Still, even back when he’s on the wrong side of the fight, Billy Dee Williams is able to turn Lando an appealing character, making his eventual redemption that much sweeter.

Henry Hill – Goodfellas (1990)

Ray Liotta plays the ultimate rat. After a long and fruitful career as a capo for local boss Paulie Cicero, Henry Hill’s mafia lifestyle comes to a final, screeching halt after he’s arrested by narcotics agents while trying to facilitate unapproved drug deals with his Pittsburgh associates. Henry’s good friend Tommy jokingly posits that Henry would crack under questioning earlier in the film, but Henry��s damning testimony against his associates Jimmy Conway and Paulie is all about survival: Henry knows that if he doesn’t cover his own ass, Jimmy will have him and his wife killed.

Becoming the very thing that mafioso’s hate most of all, Henry turns on his friends and is forced into the witness protection program. All Henry ever wanted was to be a gangster, but in the protection program, he’s reduced to “an average nobody. I get to live the rest of my life like a schnook.” It’s a fate that may be worse than death for him.

Mr. Orange – Reservoir Dogs (1992)

Arguably the villain of the story, depending on who’s side you’re on, Mr. Orange is actually L.A.P.D. undercover cop Freddy Newandyke. Looking to bring down crime boss Joe Cabot, Mr. Orange infiltrates his crew and takes part in diamond heist gone bad. In the ensuing chaos, Mr. Orange is shot and ends up killing an innocent civilian in retaliation. Played by Tim Roth, Mr. Orange screams and cries as he believes he’s fatally wounded, but it’s also possible that he’s airing out the guilt he feels in letting his undercover operation get so out of hand.

Without going into all of the bloodshed in the conclusion of Quentin Tarantino’s Reservoir Dogs, Mr. Orange’s double agent status is so sound that it eventually leads to the demise of almost all of Cabot’s colorful crew, and Orange then feels compelled to confess his deception, resulting in an ambiguous ending that most believe concludes with his death.

Dennis Nedry – Jurassic Park (1993)

Wayne Knight’s Dennis Nedry is probably the most cartoonish Benedict Arnold of the bunch, and if you think about it, the only human antagonist in the original Jurassic Park film, if you’re not counting short-sighted, megalomaniacal John Hammond. The slovenly Nedry is chief architect of the computer system at the fledgling Jurassic Park theme park, and he’s miffed by perceived low pay. So he decides to take an offer from Lewis Dodgson (“DODGSON, WE GOT DODGSON HERE!) of rival biotech company Biosyn to steal embryos of 15 dinosaur species in exchange for $61,500,000.

To make his grand escape with the embryos, Nedry shuts down the park’s security systems, including the electric fences surrounding the dinosaur paddocks. He also uploads a self-aggrandizing computer virus to prevent the systems from being quickly turned back on. However, a perfect combination of his own harebrained scheme and a nasty storm leaves Nedry stranded and at the mercy of a young Dilophosaurus. It does not end well.

Cypher – The Matrix (1999)

Cypher’s betrayal of the Nebuchadnezzar crew in The Matrix is pretty easy to see coming, and not just because the character is played by Joe Pantoliano, who’s portrayed many malcontents throughout his career. Cypher being a red pill dabbler and wishes he had taken the blue pill instead. He also outwardly makes his disapproval of Morpheus known throughout the movie. Using “ignorance is bliss” as his mantra, he strikes a deal with Agent Smith to return him to the Matrix and erase his memory of ever awakening from it in exchange for selling Morpheus out.

Jurassic World: Top Jurassic Park Deaths by Dinosaurs

After tipping Smith off to a meeting with the Oracle, Cypher goes full villain and unflinchingly kills Dozer, Apoc, and Switch before finally being stopped and killed. At least he’s free from the reality he hated so much.

“Mad Eye Moody” (aka Barty Crouch Jr.) – Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire (2005)

What’s a bigger betrayal: Death Eater Barty Crouch Jr. revealing that he’s been impersonating Alator “Mad Eye” Moody for the entirety of Harry Potter’s fourth year at Hogwarts, or Harry Potter author J.K. Rowling revealing herself to be a transphobe, betraying many of the themes of her beloved book series? We’ll leave that one to you, dear reader.

However, Barty Crouch Jr. (David Tennant before he was the Doctor) memorably betrays Harry Potter and the Hogwarts community by using the Polyjuice Potion to impersonate the former Auror and ensure that Harry would get into the Triwizard Tournament and ascend to the Third Task, which was a trap to help Lord Voldemort return to a body of his own. At least the real Mad Eye didn’t actually turn his back on those that revered him (like Rowling).

Colin Sullivan – The Departed (2006)

The biggest rat in a film full of “gnawing, cheese-eating fucking rats,” Sgt. Colin Sullivan (Matt Damon) is the criminal counterpoint to Leonardo DiCaprio’s undercover cop Billy Costigan, an undercover gangster who serves as the personal mole to Irish mob boss Frank Costello (Jack Nicholson).

Played with smarm and cowardice by Damon, Sullivan eventually double crosses the police and Costello when he discovers that Costello is an FBI informant—a rat leading rats. Scared but trying to retain his high-ranking job, Sullivan misguidedly tries to position himself as a hero and tie up all loose ends, resulting in a shocking, bloody finale that finds cocky Colin Sullivan miraculously as the last man standing. Or at least the last man standing for the moment, as a final, forgotten loose end returns to give the audience what they want; another dead rat.

Robert Ford – The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford (2007)

Well, it’s all right there in the title, innit? Played with a jealous, insecure bent by a creepy (in multiple ways) Casey Affleck, Robert Ford starts off as a Jesse James fanboy, desperate to join the outlaw’s gang with his brother Charlie (Sam Rockwell). When he finally gets close to the mythical criminal (a shadowy Brad Pitt), Bob begins to resent the man, eventually brokering a deal with the Governor of Missouri to either capture or kill Jesse James in exchange for a substantial bounty and full pardon.

Bob Ford cozies up to Jesse James even further, eventually earning the man’s complete trust, before cowardly shooting the man in the back—although in the film both carry an air of expectation that it needs to happen. Ford then lives out the rest of his days known as the coward punk that betrayed Jesse James until his eventual murder.

Aaron Burr – Hamilton (2020)

Close knit allies but ideological opposites, Aaron Burr and Alexander Hamilton both fought in the Continental Army for independence from the British. However, when it came time to actual govern the new country that they fought to begin, the men drifted apart.

It’s unfair to call Burr the only backstabber in this relationship, because both men betray their former friend. Burr (Leslie Odom Jr.) becomes jealous that Hamilton (Lin-Manuel Miranda) constantly has George Washington’s ear, and switches political parties to defeat Hamilton’s father-in-law in an election, ending their mutual admiration.

Burr also inadvertently pressures Hamilton to publicly reveal an affair, which strains the rivals’ relationships even further. However, when Hamilton endorses Thomas Jefferson (Daveed Diggs) in the third presidential election, a man that he doesn’t even like, to block Burr’s political malleability from the presidency, it becomes the final straw for Burr, who challenges Hamilton to a duel. In the ensuing gunfight, Hamilton throws away his shot, and Burr seals his fate to be remembered as the villain who killed Alexander Hamilton.

It’s Fic Back Friday, so under the cut are a few fics I love and read a year or so ago. 

Made for Ending by track_04 Fandoms: Magic School Bus and Mary Poppins Pairing: Valerie Frizzle/Mary Poppins Summary: This is playing off the idea that Ms. Frizzle and Mary Poppins are both time lords, and is the story of their lives, together and apart. Beautifully written; it reads almost like poetry at points. 

Forever by orphan_account Fandom: Harry Potter Pairing: Sirius Black/Remus Lupin Summary: This fic has really stuck with me! It’s a YouTuber AU which is generally something I’m not a big fan of because I find they’re really hard to write and still stay accurate with the characters and also feel engaging, but this author nails it! I love how they characterize all of the Marauders. Sirius is a CODA, and runs a BSL YouTube channel with James. Remus and Peter run a more miscellaneous channel. Remus and Sirius find each others’ videos and it spirals into wacky scenarios from there. I love this one!

the spider-man conspiracy by tempestaurora Fandoms: Marvel Cinematic Universe, Spider-Man: Homecoming (2017), and Iron Man (Movies) Pairing: None. Summary: Essentially, Peter Parker, Ned Leeds, and Harley Keener all get together and come up with the biggest prank of all time - they decide to make a conspiracy YouTube channel where they ‘try to figure out’ who Spider-Man is. This one’s the start of a series, and I recommend reading them all. This fic is well-written, hilarious, and does not disappoint. 

Floriography by SweetHermitress Fandom: Welcome To Night Vale Pairing: Carlos the Scientist/Cecil Palmer Summary: This one’s a flower shop AU, and uses a lot of the language of the flowers, which I’m a sucker for. There’s also pining and love confessions... good stuff. 

the stars are brightest around you by mysterykid43 Fandom: Lumberjanes Pairing: Jo/April Summary: Jo realizes she is very in love with her best friend. This fic’s adorable, I’ve read it over and over and over again.

Shuri/MJ is such a god-tier concept tbh [Podfic] by rhythmia Fandoms: Black Panther (2018) and Spider-Man: Homecoming (2017) Pairing: Michelle Jones/Shuri Summary: This was the first podfic I ever listened to and it’s still my favorite. I love it! Rhythmia does a wonderful job bringing all of the characters to life. 

Something in Common by rosefox Fandom: Steven Universe (Cartoon) Pairing: None. Summary: This is probably my favorite Steven Universe fic ever! Another one I’ll reread over and over again. I think I have it saved to my phone somewhere. Basically, it’s about Connie telling Steven about a convention for polyamorous families, and the two of them and the Gems and Greg all go. It reads so much like an actual SU episode, and so many moments feel like they come straight out of the show! There’s also some Stevonnie time, and fun moments with both Greg and the Gems that never fail to make me smile.

The Illumination of Coley Taylor by Kindness Fandom: The Miseducation of Cameron Post - Emily M. Danforth (Book) Pairing: None. Summary: At the time I found this fic, the Cameron Post movie wasn’t out yet, so this was the only work in fandom. I kept going back to reread it, and now that there are other fics in the fandom, it’s still my favorite. It’s written like something right out of the book, and is all about what happens to Coley Taylor after Cameron has to go to conversion camp, and leads up to them being reunited. Kindness nails the writing style; this feels like something by Danforth herself!

More than Ulysses, not yet Game of Thrones

I’ve been uploading fan fiction to Archive of Our Own since the first week of April 2016, and periodically I like to add up the word count of all these stories (most of which feature the Twelfth Doctor and Clara, though a few also feature the Eleventh Doctor). After uploading my most recent - and 65th - story a week or so ago, The Actress and the Artist, my total AO3 word count sits at 280,768.

I did a little checking online and that’s about 18,000 words more than James Joyce’s iconic novel Ulysses, and some 23,000 words longer than the longest Harry Potter novel, Order of the Phoenix.

But I have a little ways to go to catch up to George RR Martin; his first Song of Ice and Fire novel, A Game of Thrones, is 298,000 words long. But if I want to really get into the giants, War and Peace is just over 561,300 words, while Atlas Shrugged is about 600 words longer than that. I’ll need to come up with a whole lot more scenarios for Eleven/Twelve and Clara before I that high up.

My longest story is presently my very first upload, the novella Time Bomb, which runs approximately 37,500 words. Which is actually longer than George Orwell’s Animal Farm and only a thousand words shorter than CS Lewis’ The Lion, The Witch and the Wardrobe! (And actually my piece is longer if you include its 3,066-word followup/coda, The Big Red Button.)

Of course it’s not a competition, but it’s still cool to see how my writing measures up to the greats. (I know a few fellow fanfic writers whose word counts make James Clavell look like a short-story writer!)
