It's come to my attention that most people are... not as skilled at reading body language as they'd like. Now, I'm not saying I'm a "certified" reader of body language (is there even such a thing?!), but I have an advantage most people do not have.

See, I was born into a deaf family, though I myself am not deaf. As a result, American SIgn Language is my first language. With American Sign Language, there's a lot of body language with it--it's not just gesturing with hands. It's reading facial cues, it's shifting the body this way and that, to convey the tone that would normally come with a tone of voice.

Why do I mention this? Because... well. I'll show you.

People don't realize that Jensen rubbing his face, pulling his hat off, running his hand through his hair was a stress response. He's stressed--with Misha. He's not happy being there, but had to be there.

Especially after being asked what he admired about Misha.

This? Not playful. Look at Jensen's face. He really didn't want to, but he's in a professional setting and therefore had to give Misha a hug back.

Again, a polite hug, not a genuine one.

Trust me, folks. Jensen merely tolerates Misha. He shouldn't, given all the bullshit Misha's put him through over the years with the Cockles nonsense (that Danneel supported, the witch!), had sexually assaulted Jensen during the filming of Supernatural, and so much more.

I finally watched that panel from 2023 with Jensen and Misha (and Mark, DJ, Ruth and Samantha). At the end, Jensen answers a question about what he thought about Misha when they first met and ends his answer by saying, "that's why I love the guy."

Did someone count how many times Jensen actually said publically that he loved Misha?

There's this example and two others that I have in mind but maybe I'm missing some.

Also, how insane it is that he is the one saying this so many times, while Misha is the one that never said it publically at least. Or maybe I missed something?

I love how antis always point at one second of Jensen's facial expressions and dissect it to the atoms to "prove" how he's "miserable" around Misha; yet they somehow miss the entire interaction between the men both before and after.

At this year's spnsf, Jensen did in fact walk away when Misha tried to hug him sporting a grumpy expression ... that is true. However, just before that, he gave the most heartfelt speech about the man. And before that, he complained about Misha sitting so far away, and then dragged his chair across the stage so they could be closer.

Please, antis, explain why Jensen would go to all that trouble if he hates Misha? Who in their right mind would do all that? If you like Jensen as much as you say you do, then either you think he's insane ... or maybe you're just grasping at straws.

Parasocial relationships are strange. Parasocial relationships in a fandom like this one can be even stranger.

I want to preface this by saying that everyone is entitled to their feelings, and feelings are sometimes completely irrational. I am also aware that sometimes our feelings are driven by incomplete thoughts, and have a tendency to overwhelm us and those around us before we can process them. In saying that, I have seen a lot of conflicting emotions and reactions to the reveal that Misha Collins has a "serious" girlfriend (and a large cock apparently, but that is a whole other thing), and I know I shouldn't be surprised by it, but part of me is.

There was a conversation in my discord server over the complicated feelings people have about this news. As a cockles-friendly space this was to be expected, as any new development in the lives of either half of JenMish often spurs these kinds of conversations, but as it started to get emotional I was thanked for bringing some perspective. I hope that I can help anyone who also needs a different way of viewing this situation by making this post, while also helping myself to organise my own chaotic and complicated thoughts.

As I understand it, during the It Seemed Like A Good Idea At The Time event at this weekend's Burbank convention, Misha told a fun anecdote about gift-giving with his new girlfriend and her daughter, wherein Misha got some things delivered to said girlfriend directly from Amazon, and girlfriend wrapped them for the daughter including what she thought was a microphone but was actually another similarly shaped item not intended for children at all. He continued to say that this "microphone" was for his girlfriend so she wouldn't need to go searching elsewhere for intimacy, as they are currently living in separate states. Now, I was not at the event, and the lack of recordings (recording was strictly prohibited, so if you've got one shame on you, I don't want to know about it!) means that everything I will ever know about this story and the way it was told to the small audience who were lucky enough to be able to attend this event comes as a form of the Telephone game, and therefore lacks a whole lot of body language, tone and context. We, as a fandom, have been severely burnt by this kind of missing nuance before - think DenverCon'21 - and it's these kinds of kneejerk reactions that have the potential to spiral out of control and limit the things we get told at future events - think bishagate.

Think for a second about your personal perception of Misha Collins. He's chaotic, he can be a little self-deprecating or self-effacing, he likes to turn serious anecdotes into jokes. He is also a passionate and caring man, who has a lot of respect and appreciation for his fans. Think about the way he tells anecdotes at standard con panels - it's often a bit tongue-in-cheek, a bit sarcastic, a bit exaggerated - so why would his behaviour at this event, which was specifically set up for Misha to tell stories he wouldn't normally have the space to do in a convention setting, be any different?

I am going to go through my thoughts on some of the things I have seen mentioned about what this all means…

First off, the elephant in the room, what does this mean for Cockles? To me, absolutely nothing. Whatever Jensen and Misha have going on completely transcends a standard sexual and/or romantic relationship. Misha was in his relationship with Vicki for the majority of his life, including when he met Jensen, and we all know she literally wrote a book on polyamory; his perception of relationships is literally shaped and moulded by this, and it's not something he's going to just switch off. Danneel has been a permanent fixture in the cockles dynamic this entire time as well. The JenMish panel at Burbank this weekend will hopefully alleviate any of the doubt anyone is having here, and give us some knowledge that regardless of how Misha defines his relationship status, things will continue in the same chaotic, loving and ridiculous nature we've become accustomed to.

Which segues nicely into the implication that the vibrator was purchased so she wouldn't stray, and therefore their relationship is monogamous. See above thoughts about tongue-in-cheek, exaggerated and self-effacing - when I imagine him telling this story, I see that cheeky, gummy grin going the whole time. Without the nuance of watching this unfold, I think we are all safest to assume that this was a joke, not a firm declaration that he has left his polyamorous attitudes behind.

On thoughts of him "moving on too soon" from his marriage and subsequent divorce, this is where my own feelings get complicated as well, but also where we need to remember that the key feature of a parasocial relationship is that we only see and know what he wants us to. We don't actually know what the trigger for that dissolution was, so in terms of the actual calendar timing it might seem soon, but emotional development and change doesn't run on a standard calendar. We don't know how long the process was before the decision was made to separate. I am currently working through a messy separation, and while I can pinpoint the decision to somewhere in the past 6-12 months, my marriage has realistically been dead for 3+ years, and we're a (supposedly) monogamous couple. As a poly couple, I can imagine that Misha and Vicki worked through every alternative option possible before landing on the decision to formally separate, and had probably well and truly been through the mourning period before it was even all over. Adult relationships are complex at the best of times, and no one ever truly knows what is happening in them except the people involved. I also think that as a man who is nearing 50 and just come out of very long term relationship, that he doesn't actually know how to be "alone", nor does he want to…

Lastly, for some of us, this is someone important in our lives who has found happiness in another person when perhaps we don't have that for ourselves. When those feelings hit, they can be extremely disheartening, and I want to send all my loving thoughts to anyone who falls into this category. It's difficult when the envy turns your stomach in knots and then your thoughts spiral into all the things wrong that mean that no matter how much you want to you can't just be happy for someone. Love and life are complicated, human beings are complicated, society is complicated. There is this hugely widespread and toxic mentality that we are all raised on that says we are halves of something that is destined to find our other half in order to feel whole, and it's utter bullshit. We shouldn't need one singular significant other to feel complete, and sometimes we get so determined to find that someone that we end up sacrificing ourselves to make them fit. There are many different kinds of love, many different kinds of relationships, and many different kinds of people. If anyone proves that to us, it's Misha Collins. He is walking evidence that human life is chaotic and unpredictable and indeterminate and we can make our own fucking rules. I hope that we can collectively be respectful of him, no matter what (or who) he chooses, and feel grateful for everything he trusts us enough to share.

5: misha, possibly unaware he's on camera, casually calls jensen "sweetheart".

6: i don't have documentation of every time, but it's very common for jensen and misha to be significantly late to their panels/ops/autos, to change clothes in the middle of the day at cons, or be seen with... stains. 🤷‍♀️

8: misha's "blanky" that he "kept in jensen's spare room", which led to fandom sleuths admitting it had long been covertly known that jensen and misha lived together in vancouver while filming spn from 2017-2020. @theyarebothgunshot did a brilliant post of a timeline of events surrounding their cohabitation.

9: misha wore a ring that jensen gave him during the time they lived together.

10: the casual but incredibly revealing intimacy with which they pose together, both publicly and privately. like, not to go on about body language, but i just can't buy this kind of closeness without something going on. there's a whole section of the masterlist devoted to moments of intimacy like these.

The true friendship between Jensen and misha...

I find the body language to be very fascinating and perhaps, telling! I cannot say that this in itself is the embodiment of their friendship as we don't know them as well as we'd like to think we do. But, in this instance, the body language really says a lot! That's very interesting to see.

Cas wakes up in Dean's room in the bunker. Dean is sitting at one side of the bed and holds Castiel's hand. When Castiel stirs, Dean looks up. He looks very tired, but as soon as he sees the blue of Castiel's eyes again, his whole face lits up.

"Heya, Cas." Dean says and smiles.

"Hello, Dean." Cas answered in his deep voice and he can see that Dean began to shiver. "Dean-"

"Cas-" They say at the same time, and then they both laugh shortly. But it's over soon and a deep sadness comes back to Dean's eyes. By seeing that, Cas has to swallow twice as hard as usual. "Cas, buddy, we really need to talk about that goodbye. I mean, what the hell was that? You can't just say something big like you did there and then just disappear."

"Yes, Dean, maybe we need to talk about that goodbye but I have also a question?!" He looks at Dean. "Why am I back? The Empty said it would be final this time."

"What now, Cas? You don't think you deserve to be saved?!" Cas can see the tears in Dean's eyes. He tries to lighten the mood.

"Dean. You can't use my words against me." He tries to laugh but tears are running down Dean's face now. Dean swallows and then bends forward. He frames Cas's face with both of his hands. He goes a bit cross-eyed when he tries to look into Cas's eyes. Their mouths are only a few inches apart.

"Can do, you asshole. Can do." Dean whispers before closing the remaining space. When their lips meet it feels like all the fireworks of the world had gone up at the same time. It's all they ever wanted but it's also not enough. They kiss with hunger, need, passion and all inbetween. Until they need to break apart for air.

"Cas, I love you. Okay? But don't ever do a deal like that again. I can't live without you anymore." Dean says.

"Same goes for you." Cas says. "Seriously, Dean. I love you, you know that. But same goes for you. No dump deal, no reckless fights for you. Deal?" Cas has his hands around Dean's neck by now.

"Geez, Cas. Yes, we have a deal but can you stop talking now? And can we kiss more instead?" Dean's hands are in Cas's hair and when Cas nods, Dean stands up and moves from the chair onto the bed, sitting down on Cas's hips. They both sigh and Cas pulls Dean down so that he's completely covering his body.

Their lips meet in a similar way like before. They kiss like all the pent up tension needs to be released at once, like there is no tomorrow. Cas moves his hands down Dean's spine and then rests them on Dean's hips. He pulls Dean's down and pushes his own up. They both first moan and then laugh breathlessly.

"Cas, we still need to talk", Dean says and Cas nods.

"Sure, Dean. Later." Then he captures Dean's lips again.

When they wake up the next morning, they're sure, there are no fireworks left in the world for decades.

I did this thing where I took the song "Love Kernels" from the show Crazy ex-girlfriend and changed some lyrics (the green ones) to illustrate how it is to be in the Cockles dumpster. I used the Cockles masterlist to do this, it's a tresor if you don't know it.

Instead of calling someone a creepy conspiracy theorist because they interpret a photo (and real life comments and actions) differently than themselves, maybe they should try looking at things from another angel. This obsession with seeing Jensen as perfect and constantly having the time of his life is ridiculous and points to a huge bias. I’ll be honest, the particular picture in question, where Jensen looks in pain, could be him "living the music" but to me, he does not look like he’s just grooving. Also, there is video of the concert, so it’s not like people’s opinions are only based on photos.

The last time Jensen performed at a con, he was yelling, not singing, and yet they praise his amazing performance. Jensen has a lovely voice when he isn’t straining it, and is a good performer (usually), but that doesn’t actually mean he is an amazing, Uber talented singer. He was very good as Dean, but to say he never had over the top moments or ones that didn’t quite connect, is just not true. Saying he’s liberal and a huge ally is a huge stretch seeing as he is very closed mouthed on politics in general (I don’t actually blame him there, as if I were famous I’d want to appeal to the widest audience and would stick to discussing my art). Saying he likes Destiel now because he learned the hard way that criticizing the stupid ship gets him outright hate and death threats, is embracing willful ignorance. Jensen and Danneel can only be viewed as couples goals, despite the fact that their body language screens anything but affection. Jared is the bad guy because he cracked the illusion that Jensen is a perfect friend, professional and gentleman, and had a "tantrum" on Twitter because he didn’t let Jebsen off the hook or bail him out, for once, for his shitty actions around the prequel. Jensen supports Ukrainian and really cares about the issue, despite the fact that he starred in a commercial promoting Atomic Heart. Anyway, my point is the man is not perfect, no one is, but as soon as they see any criticism, they call the person delivering it crazy, a hater, or a miserable person who is just projecting.

I love my family, but that doesn’t mean I think it or each family member (myself included) is without flaws.

I started watching Supernatural as a Dean and Jensen fan. I was crazy about Dean until later seasons when he just got angrier and more hypocritical. At first, I admired Ackles for his love for Jared and humility, but his behavior (his inconsistency at cons, and how he talked about Jared lovingly one minute, then criticizing him at JIB or joking at his expense when he’s not there, while calling him brother in the next breath) would not allow me to keep blindly sighing over him. Not to mention, I noticed how his stories were always humble (or not so humble) brags. He isn’t consistent and changes for the crowd he’s in.

I’m sorry, but if you are the one who only sees someone as perfect and can’t acknowledge any flaws to the point that you need to attack anyone who dares mention one, then you are the one without a balanced view. Our observation are subjective, obviously, and you don’t have to agree with how someone elde interprets something, but to instantly write them off as just a hater or lying (unless it’s a provable lie, or delusion with no proof like hellers and cockles shippers) maybe take a look at your own objectivity and need to go to battle for someone you don’t actually know.

It saddens me that Jensen has such judgemental, toxic fans that only care about fetishiz*ing him. Then I remember there are also fans like you, who are able to see him as a real and complex person. Thank you for this beautiful post! 💕💕💕

I think the reason why they immediately resort to bullying and gaslighting is because they know they stand no chance of making eloquent, balanced arguments because they lack objectivity. I mean all they do is project, not only on others but on Jensen especially, he needs to be the fantasy they created and is not allowed to stray from that perfect image. I cannot imagine how painful that must be to him. No human is perfect and we all just want to be loved for who we are, not for some false image others build in their attempt to exploit our beauty, like in his case.
