They cling to one another, both overcome with emotion (self-professed inability to love be damned), perfect living skin against rotting flesh; the visual implication here is that there is, quite literally, nothing between them. They know each other entirely, the flaws, the beauty, and that understanding is more important than their own life or death.

to me the thing that matters most in the whole "who deserved to win" debate is the fact that Lando's leading position was entirely due to the team strategy. it was not Lando who got the lead, just like how Oscar didn't do anything to lose his position. frankly it's unfortunate that Oscar's mistake while in P2 didn't matter, if mclaren hadn't put them both in undeserved positions it might have even affected the race, it might have lead to an exciting battle towards the end. what actually happened is Oscar's first win nearly got torn from his hands by a shit strategy call meanwhile Lando got guilttripped out of whatever (false) hope he had for a victory. if it was two different teams battling with strategy it would be different but currently mclaren need to step the FUCK up and not let this happen ever again. don't let Oscar's win get overshadowed by this, being put in a situation so shit you have to apologize for winning is something I don't want to see ever fucking again I'm just glad Lando is (altough characteristically self-deprecating) handling the aftermath fairly and mclaren can count themselves fucking lucky that their drivers actually like each other. fucking hell that race was entertaining tho
