CM Thoughts: 13x1

Okay, so I have a lot of feels about last night’s episode, and I’m gonna go character by character.

- Stephen: I have to address this first. Given that CBS fucked him over, the writers did the best they could with his departure. Penelope’s line about how she couldn’t “leave him here alone” was so her and showed that he was still a part of the team despite being there for so little time. His wife Monica, (the actress is fucking great) was heartbreaking. I hate that CBS did him so dirty, but given what the writers had to work with, I think they did well.

- Simmons: I watched Beyond Borders and he was my favorite on there. For all those doubting, give him a chance. Daniel Henney is great. The writers also gave him a believable reason for being there and knowing Scratch’s case. Emily wanted someone outside the BAU that knew about everything going on.

- Luke: Goddammit, I have some feels. I love all the Ralvez we got last night, but specifically the scene with Reid where he was telling Reid that PTSS is an injury, not a disorder, hit me in the feels. I feel like Luke is speaking from experience, so maybe they’ll use that as a way to enter into his background. Also, the ending scene, I’m not sure, but I think Luke let Scratch fall. Go Luke.

- Tara: There wasn’t a ton of Tara in this episode. I know she has a couple other jobs, but she did quit as a host of The Talk (?) so she could be with CM more, so we will hopefully be getting more Tara.

- Rossi: Can we talk about how much I love my spaghetti dad? Rossi was the levity we all needed last night, but if you remember him at the beginning of the show, he’s come such a long fucking way. Like he was kind of rude at the beginning, but he’s like everyone’s dad now, and I love it. He called Reid and Alvez ASSCLOWNS. I’m dead. Rossi I love you.

- Penelope: Seeing Garcia, my ray of sunshine, so sad hurts my heart, but the situation warranted it. She’s not gonna be happy go lucky at a time like this. Also, her telling off the person on the phone was great. Also, her middle name is Grace. I love little shit like that.

- JJ (and Will): JJ’s guilt over Stephen being in the seat she was going to take was so heartbreaking. I hope that everyone on the team is dealing with the after effects of this case, even if it’s just a mention here or there. Also Willifer is actual fucking goals. I love that they could “call it,” like we need to stop, but they both knew that the other one loves their jobs despite the shitty days. In summation, goals.

- Emily: EMILY PRENTISS IS A FUCKING QUEEN. SHE HAD A SCALPEL TO HER EYEBALL AND DIDN’T FLINCH. SHE FIGURED OUT SCRATCH’S BULLSHIT WAS BULLSHIT. IT WAS ALL A SMOKESCREEN AND SHE FUCKING KNEW IT. SHE SAID SHE WOULD NEVER BETRAY JACK OR HIS FATHER. SHE RAN AWAY FROM SCRATCH AFTER HOURS OF PSYCHOLOGICAL TORTURE. EMILY IS THE MOST BADASS BABE EVER AND I LOVE HER. 

- Reid: If you know my blog, you know Reid is my favy. Everything that I wanted to happen with Reid happened (or didn’t). I didn’t want him to kill Scratch. He didn’t. I wanted to see that he was suffering with PTSD/PTSS. We are, and I think that’s something that we are going to continue to see. His hug with Emily killed me. BROTP: My Battle My Choice.

 - Last things to wrap up. I wish Morgan could’ve been there, but Shemar’s schedule wouldn’t allow for it. I love that Hotch was mentioned a few times and am great with the explanation of him not coming back because he wanted to be a full time dad to Jack. And the wheels up thing at the end made me so happy. I miss those family moments.

In conclusion, I really overall loved the premiere and am looking forward to seeing how things play out this season. <3

13x1 - detailed

In this episode we have some micro-scenes and one true garvez scene. Penelope called Matt, to help her find the team. They saw the crash. Rossi told her to help the others and she ran to JJ and Luke. Here we are.

Scene 1-

Luke is helping JJ, who can't able to see. Garcia offers her help. They don't answer her. Then Penelope notices something else. And this is the moment we understand that she is still Luke's priority.

Luke stops taking care of JJ and looks at the same direction of Penelope. She says, with a crying voice "Stephen?". Then, she starts walk away, in shock, and he looks directly at her.

She reaches the car with Stephen body. Luke takes less than 10 seconds to decide leaving JJ and running to Penelope. We can guess that JJ is wondersing if he is really doing what he is doing.

Penelope is crying when Luke reaches her, taking her in a confort way by her arms. He tries to calm her moving his fingers on her body like light caresses. You can see the way he is taking her, so close. I think that he did it both because he knows she needed some concrete physical contact, and also because he needed it. Luke is not only a former manhunter, he is also a sensitive person.

Luke then says “He’s gone." and repeats, almost whispering "He's gone.”. Penelope voice is so broken when she replays “I can’t leave him alone like this”. And this breaks Luke, as you can see in the last frame. He closes his eyes, in his typical "I can't accept this situation" expression (he makes the same face when he discovers about her stalker, 15x4).

He is ready to stay in this way forever. He is getting closer, when we hear Matt voice, calling his name "Luke!" in a urgent way. The poor man is in conflict. He looks in the direction of the voice, maybe to try to understand if he really needs him. Then looks back at Penelope, still crying. He knows that he has to go. He was a military and, in my opinion, he is a dutiful person.

He eventually leaves her, cyring and screaming inside. He takes off his hands from her body at the very last second. And he runs to Matt, who is helping Tara.

Scene 2

Luke is worried for Spencer, when the second notices that there is someone inside Rossi' office. They go to check.

They discover that it's Penelope and Matt. The first gestures to stay silent, then mimes a phone and stretches out her hand.

Here you can see that Luke is (understandably) confused.

Spencer gives her a piece, Luke gives her the another, that she places in the cigar box. Then she starts explain: "Okay. Now that we are secure…”

While she says that the cigar box is also a Faraday cage that Rossi gave her last year, Luke listens carefully. His expression passes from "what the fuck" to "amazing as always". You can barely see a smirk that want to show up on his lips.

Luke understands that this also explains Rossi behavior at the hospital, and looking for the tickets, as the old man told him to do.

At the end of the scene Luke is so angry. He calls Scratch "bastard". He is angry for the team, for Walker (dead), for Emily (missing), JJ, Rossi and Tara (injuried), for himself... and for Penelope, because the whole situation made her cry and sad. And he can't stand, he hate that. Do you remember 12x17, when he went to talk Shaw? Here we are again.

Scene 3

It's not a scene, but a particular that has to be at least mentioned.

After Stephen funeral, Emily tells the team that they have 6 weeks of break, and that what helped her to survive, was the fact she knew they were outside, looking for her, repeating a mantra "Wheels up". They all say it, even Penelope and Luke, one after the other.

We can guess that something changed between them, with Walker death. I think, and I already said it a lot of times, that Penelope finally considers him like family. She still "gives him crap", teases him, etc, but in a slight different way. You can see it in ep 13x3, when they talk with Spencer. But also in 13x7, with Phil. There is something more, between them, the cheerfulness, the tranquillity that there is only between people you can call friends. Their friendship is a particular one, but is there.

Only a true crazy garvez shipper can spend time to understand if is Luke or Spencer the man that passes this object to Penelope. Why a garvez shipper should care of this particular? Because, if it's Luke (spoiler: it is!), then their hands touched/brushed.

Plus, you should consider that this moment is in S13, the season with less garvez scenes, and the one where we meet Lisa. We also meet Phil and Lou, but it's not enough.

The solution is so easy. They both, Spencer and Luke, give a thing to Penelope. Reid first, then Luke.

Penelope: I... I will miss you too, and Roxy, and the team, and this place. Even Anderson [they laugh]

Luke: What if we didn't have to miss each other? [pulling her closer, he reads the answer inside her eyes and kisses her, she kisses him back]

Then, Penelope arrives.

He still helps JJ, but Penelope cries “Stephen? Stephen!” and runs away. He just can’t help but turn to her, following her with his gaze.

He takes 7 second (I counted them, really) to reach her. Leaving JJ, almost blind.

He almost dies hearing her sobbing and so in pain.

Matt calls him. He can’t leave her alone.

He is conflicted. Matt calls him again. He know he has to go even if he would never want to.
