GymRat!Miguel Part 3
content warning: small food mentions, a little suggestive at parts so MINORS BEWARE, sexual tension?? 😗, insecure thoughts about a plus size body (may or may not be triggering for some), a few mean girls, college party, alcohol, drugs, mentions of throw up like once, a bad look for sororities (sorry, y'all are probably very wonderful people)
word count: 3.2k (NOT A DRABBLE WTF 😭) not proofread, if you see a mistake lmk
GymRat!Miguel's workout playlist is here! I had to stop myself from adding more songs because it’s already so long lol. I didn't even include any cool down songs.
Prev | Next ✩°。 ⋆⸜ 🎧✮ Masterlist
GymRat!Miguel who wakes up without having to hobble to the bathroom for once. No morning wood because his dream of you was soft this time. You two were cuddled up on a couch with the world’s most fluffy blanket. He smiles to himself as he drags his feet to the bathroom. It was if dancing clouds and bubbles were floating around his head.
GymRat!Miguel who’s able to sit and chat with Ms. Beatrice longer today because his class doesn’t start until that after noon. He compliments her on the egg sandwich from the other day and she squeezes his cheeks when she thanks him as if he were a baby.
GymRat!Miguel who tinkers in the engineering building as he waits for lunch. He joined the small but mighty robotics team as soon as he found out there was one. There was a fighting robot division, and he needed to figure out the problems with his team’s robot sooner rather than later.
GymRat!Miguel who spots you at the student center having your lunch. He wastes no time to grab his food and book it to your table. He calls your name before he gets there, not wanting to startle you. You smile when you look up surprised to see him there.
"Can I join you?" he says, trying not to seem out of breath with how fast his heart is beating.
"Yeah," you say, arranging your things around. You push your computer to the side as he places his burito bowl on the table. "I'm finally getting to see you outside of lab."
In his mind, he takes a note of you being in the student center at this time. He wants to make eating with you a routine thing.
"What were you watching?" he asks, trying to curb the rush that your presence has on him. He opened up his bowl and started to mix his food, waiting patiently for your answer.
"This is a little embarrassing but," you pause to dump one of your nuggets in sauce. "I was watching someone explain the downfall of Chuck E. Cheese." Your voice gets softer as you finish your sentence, eyes avoiding his gaze.
You were so cute. And it's almost as if you've never met him, the ultimate nerd.
"Nothing wrong with wanting to know why more and more locations went from five animatronics to one. Or how they started to sell their pizzas under ghost kitchens," he says, taking a bite from his bowl.
You looked at him and your smile grew. Miguel could only think 'there she is. there's my girl.'
The two of you chatted about everything from malfunctioning Chuck E's to your classes to your food. Miguel was through the roof.
GymRat!Miguel who offers to carry your art portfolio case for you to the art building. Anything to extend your time together. Plus, why should you have to hold it when he's here? He holds the doors for you and presses the elevator buttons before you can even think to.
GymRat!Miguel who really loves when the elevator door closes and he can look down at as you talk away. Just for those few seconds, the outside world is quiet and it's just you two. In another world, he'd kiss you before the doors open. In another world, he'd tilt your head up and have you look at him when you speak, he wanted to read your eyes too.
You're staring at him expectantly, eyes reminding him of baby deers. He tilts his head at you, wondering why you're staring at him.
"Miguel the door is open. We have to leave before it closes," you say.
He's instantly broke back to reality.
"Right! Sorry," he says, heat rising on the back of his neck. He steps out and holds his hand in front of the opening so that the door doesn't close you.
"Thank you," you say, a giggle under your breath.
Miguel has done some pretty embarrassing things when it comes to you, but he didn't think it would bleed into when he was actually in front of you.
In this world, he needed to not give you the creeps. Get it together.
GymRat!Miguel who is ecstatic that you still want to come work out with him. You all plan to meet that Friday. You don't know what you want to work out, but you say you're excited. Miguel has tonight, Wednesday, and Thursday to plan the perfect workout for you.
Should he go buy a bottle so he can make you a smoothie? Or should he offer to buy you a smoothie afterwards? Do you even like smoothies? Maybe he should invite you to breakfast. Would you want to eat right after you worked out? You needed to eat to make sure you can speed up the healing process though....
GymRat!Miguel who waves you goodbye when it's almost time for your studio class to start, mind filled with so many questions.
Your friend turns to you immediately when Miguel is gone.
"And who was that?" she says, eyes shocked.
"He's a guy from my lab. His name is Miguel," you say, grinning in your hands. You felt like kicking your feet in the air, but alas, no time.
"He's super hot. Like, seriously," your friend says, moving her taboret next to her workspace. "I would hit it. Constantly."
"Please stop talking," you say, laughing along. "I'm not even sure if he goes for girls like me. I'd rather not get my hopes up." You wanted to keep yourself in reality and falling for Miguel might put you too close to the land of delusion. You figured that Miguel was just super nice, especially after you two worked so hard for that lab project.
Your friend stops and looks at you, she slams the liquin tin on the table and puts her hand on her hip.
"First of all, those "types of guys" love big girls, so don't give me that. Second of all, are you not seeing how he looks at you. He's giving you the biggest puppy dog eyes, like, ever." She picks the liquin tin back up and starts scooping aggressively at the sides. "You gotta be more confident! You're gorgeous, anyone with a functioning brain can see that."
You stand there stunned, shocked at your friend's outburst. "I am confident!" Partially true. "I just...don't want to be hurt."
"I understand that, but have you even asked if he likes you or not?"
You shake your head no.
"Exactly. The night is still young," your friend says, pointing her palette knife at you. "And if you don't go for it, I will."
"Oh my god, shut up," you say, throwing a crumbled shop towel at her. You still kept her words in the back of your mind, storing it for later.
GymRat!Miguel who paces in front of the campus gym, waiting for your arrival. He got up extra early and gave himself a pep talk in the mirror. It wasn't a date, per se, but he felt that it could lead to one if he played his cards right. He decided to just invite you out to eat, figuring you would bring your stickered-water bottle.
GymRat!Miguel who spots you before you even call his name. He waves, smile taking over his features. You wave back, and it isn't until you're ten steps away that he finally takes in your full outfit. Another two-piece that was going to be the death of him, the only thing was that this was in the flesh. He cursed under his breath before you got closer, brain short-circuiting at the fabric hugging your skin.
"Ready to go?" he asks, forcing himself to not look at your body and to look at your face.
"Yeah! I'm a little nervous but I'm ready to work," you say, following him to the door.
He opens the doors for you, "Nothing to be nervous about. You're in good hands."
He brings you to his locker so you can put your bag in there, not wanting anyone to snag your belongings.
You guys start at the track, walking a lap as a warm up. Usually Miguel would do a lap or two of jogging, and as much as he wanted to watch you bounce, especially on him, this was a beginner workout. He didn't want to scare you with how intense he can get. While walking, you guys chatted about little things. Miguel tells you how wasn't nearly this big four years ago, ensuring you that the path to get here can be hard. You tell him that you just want be healthy, not caring if you lost weight or gained muscle. Miguel was secretly happy to hear this because he liked your body the way it was, but he would roll with whatever you were feeling.
GymRat!Miguel who helps you stretch. You both sit on the floor and face each other with your feet touching. Miguel saw how much smaller your feet were compared to his and his heart fluttered. His mind was filled with a million voices rambling off new things about you.
"She's focusing so hard"
"How can a gym outfit be so hot"
"She's so close to me when we do this stretch"
"Her hands are so warm"
"Maybe I should have stretched her from behind too"
That last thought gets Miguel to move you guys to the next part of the routine. How is his head always in the gutter?
GymRat!Miguel who starts you off with dumbbells, giving you the 5 lb weights to start. He starts you off with a few shoulder and arm exercises, giving you tips and praise along the way. His touches linger on your arms as he corrects your form, watching your body intensely. His constant "good"s, "one more''s, and "uh huh"s hit you right in your core. You're thankful that you're out of breath and heated from the workout, otherwise you would have melted before him.
GymRat!Miguel who pulls out all of the stops, using the heavier weights for his sets. He screams on the inside when you cheer him on. You clap at the end of one of his harder sets, happy that he pushed himself. He bows in silly way, sweat dripping down his face and laughing at your actions.
GymRat!Miguel who spots you while you use a heavier weight to do squats. You wanted to go for the 15 lb weight even though it was your first time doing weighted squats. He didn't want you to fall over, so he stood behind you and held his hands in the air by your waist as you went down. He knew that he was supposed to be focused, but he couldn't help but to glance at your ass a few times. God.
GymRat!Miguel who ends off your workout with the bikes, you guys making it a small competition. He stands and cycles, watching as your jaw dropped. You started to stand but got a little scared and gave up quick. Miguel couldn't have that. He stopped moving and got up to be by your side.
"You got it! Don't be scared," he says, watching you work.
"I literally can't do that," you say, cycling a little faster.
"Sure you can! Try it, I'm right here," he says, encouraging you.
You fight your fear and stand up and cycle. "Oh my god," you say, breaths coming out hard.
"That's it, that's it," Miguel says, voice warm as he praises you. "You're doing so good. Keep going."
You push until you can't anymore, Miguel cheering at your side.
GymRat!Miguel who guides you to the showers after your workout. It sucks that he can't be in there with you. His imagination can only get him so far.
GymRat!Miguel who waits for you to come out of the bathroom, ready to ask you to go for smoothies and breakfast. He hopes you say yes.
GymRat!Miguel who is in awe again at how you look. How many two-piece sets did you have? How does he survive them every single time? He mutters up the courage to ask you if you wanted to go get smoothies, adding on that he would pay. You glow and say yes, stating that you love smoothies. He's soaring.
GymRat!Miguel who brings your food to the table, two wraps and two smoothies. A protein shake for him and a fruit smoothie for you.
"That was a really good workout today. You definitely put me to work," you say, unwrapping the straw to stab it through the top. You hum at the flavor as you take a sip.
"Good?" Miguel asks, and you nod your head with your thumb up. "I'm glad you liked the workout. I was excited to have a partner."
"A partner? Why didn't you invite us to join?"
You both look up to see a few girls standing by the checkout counter. Miguel notices them as the sorority girls from his literature class. They walk over to your table, eyes twinkling as they take in Miguel.
Miguel chuckles awkwardly, not knowing what to say. He didn't think he had to deal with them outside of class too.
One of the girls look at you and goes, "Oo are you a personal trainer?"
You're taken aback, eyes scanning between the girls. You're about to open your mouth to respond but Miguel gets to them first.
"No, we're workout partners," he says, snapping at the girl. "And we're kind of having a conversation right now so is there anything else that you guys want to say?"
The girl cowers a bit at Miguel's words, laughing as if he told a joke and twirling her hair. The leader of the pack turns to Miguel, "Sorry about that. We wanted to see if you could come to our party tomorrow night. It'll be super fun and we would love to see you there."
A party? Miguel hadn't gone to one since he moved on campus. He always wanted to experience a college one. He turned to you and saw that you just tapped at your phone, not looking to the girls.
"I'll go if I can bring her," Miguel says, tapping his foot against yours. You look up, shock in your eyes,
Some of the girls slump, and the leader tightens her smile, "Fine! That's cool. I'll send you the details later."
The girls walk off and you stare at them, eyes squinting.
"They're an interesting bunch aren't they?" you say, continuing to eat your wrap.
"Right?" Miguel says, turning back to you.
GymRat!Miguel who comes to your dorm, ready to walk you to the party. He knocks on your door, a little nervous. He had on a nice top, the top open a little bit and a thin chain around his neck. After a while, you opened the door and gobsmacked him again with your outfit.
"Wow," he says, standing in the door like an idiot.
"Is it bad?" you ask, body glowing.
"No, you look amazing," Miguel says. "Ready to go?" He holds his arm out, softly smiling at you.
You nod and intertwine your arm through his.
GymRat!Miguel who takes in the atmosphere, frat guys yelling by a pool table, a few girls dancing with red solo cups, some people making out on the couch.
For Miguel, it was a lot.
He turned to you, yelling to ask if you wanted a drink. You say yes and you both make your way to the kitchen.
There, you both are met with the sorority girls crowding the kitchen. Some of them are passing some pills around and others are chatting by the island. One of them looks up and sees you guys lingering by the entrance.
"Miguel! You made it! Come on have a drink," she pulls him closer in the room. "Want a xannie?"
"I'm good," he says, handing you a cup of Pink Whitney. You take a sip and turn your nose a little bit. You might have to suck it up to get through the night.
"I'm so glad you made it. I have something that I've been meaning to show you," she says, batting her eyes. She convinces him to follow her up the stairs.
Miguel yells over his shoulder that he'll be right back.
You stand in the kitchen, fingers tapping against your cup. You felt a little silly and out of place. You didn't know anyone else here and the people were cliquey.
You joined a few games of beer pong, trying to enjoy yourself, but you couldn't help but to think about Miguel.
You dance a little, joining some random girls in the middle of the room. The music is ok, but you were just trying to have a good time. After an hour or so, you get nervous. Miguel hasn't been back in a while.
You head back to the kitchen, thinking maybe he could be in there.
"If you're looking for Miguel, he's probably deep in a bed right now," one girl giggles as she comes up beside you, grabbing another drink.
"What?" you say, eyebrows furrowed.
"Yeah girl, why else would he be gone so long? I tried to go up there and the doors were locked. Just text him tomorrow."
Your hand grips your cup tighter, watching as the girl goes back into the thick of the crowd.
You decide to wait a little longer, scrolling on the same three apps back to back for another hour. You look at the time again and the 3 am stares back at you mockingly.
You figure that he's really not coming back down and open your Instagram to give him a text.
“Hey Miguel! I’m gonna go ahead and go back to my dorm. It's getting pretty late."
You walk back to your dorm, arms wrapped around yourself to brace from the cold.
GymRat!Miguel who finally makes it to a bathroom that's not occupied with some one hovering over the toilet. He feels out of it. Throwing back a few too many shots. He was trying to get back downstairs but there was always someone there to pull him back, offering something.
A shot? Sure.
A pill? No.
A game? Maybe.
The girl who brought him up there tried her best to get in his pants, but if he was being honest, he didn't even remember her name. Or any of the names of the girls that came in afterwards. He declined every one of them, just wanting to get some air.
He was able to check his phone.
3:35 am.
He sees your message and feels sick. He runs downstairs and out the door, the cool air sobering him up a bit.
"Fuck," he says hands to his head. He squats and texts you back.
"I am so sorry. I got caught up. Did you make it back safely?"
It was so late, there was no way you would respond. He fucked up.
He texted Gabriel, maybe his drunk mind pushing him to seek help from his little brother.
"So if I invite a girl to a party and leave her what are the chances that she will text me back? :((("
"Dude. It's almost 4am. And where is this so-called game that you have? Ik you're not asking me about anything"
"Gabri :(((("
"I'll be honest, she's probably blocking your number. IF she even has it lol"
Yeah. He fucked up.

A team of engineers at the University of Massachusetts Amherst has recently shown that nearly any material can be turned into a device that continuously harvests electricity from humidity in the air. The secret lies in being able to pepper the material with nanopores less than 100 nanometers in diameter. The research appeared in the journal Advanced Materials.
"This is very exciting," says Xiaomeng Liu, a graduate student in electrical and computer engineering in UMass Amherst's College of Engineering and the paper's lead author. "We are opening up a wide door for harvesting clean electricity from thin air."
"The air contains an enormous amount of electricity," says Jun Yao, assistant professor of electrical and computer engineering in the College of Engineering at UMass Amherst, and the paper's senior author. "Think of a cloud, which is nothing more than a mass of water droplets. Each of those droplets contains a charge, and when conditions are right, the cloud can produce a lightning bolt -- but we don't know how to reliably capture electricity from lightning. What we've done is to create a human-built, small-scale cloud that produces electricity for us predictably and continuously so that we can harvest it."

Stonybrook Community College - TWST
Just some worldbuilding stuff and. uh even more OCs. I've got my other ones here and here.
Stonybrook is a picturesque part of the Sunshine Lands, known for it's gentle rolling hills, babbling brooks, and shockingly clear night skies. Because of how clear the night skies are, the belief of wishing upon a star was an integral part of the community. Nowadays, light pollution makes it difficult, but the North star is still always visible when there are no clouds around, at least in the suburbs of the city.
Anyways, Stonybrook Community College is meant to be an opportunity for locals to attend post-secondary schooling without travelling as far or paying as much as they may have had to in order to attend other schools. (Or did not receive an invitation to NRC/RSA/NBC)
So I got my Toy Story OCs
Cody Whitner - Twisted from Woody
One of the teacher's sons
Complete asshole to his half brother
An asshole in general, but he can be charming when he wants to...you just have to tolerate the asshole part long enough
Makes up for what he lacks in academic smarts with manipulation and emotional intelligence. (Yes, he uses his intelligence for typically malicious reasons but it doesn't mean he's not intelligent)
Brett Lancaster - Twisted from Buzz Lightyear (loosely)
Cody's half-brother (doesn't really care for Cody)
Total nerd, genius IQ but also kind of gullible
Best friends with Idia online, goes by the name 'space_rangerTIAB'
Also friends with Cody's crush, which. is a source of tension between the half-brothers
Nobody at the school knows they're half-brothers except Cody's dad
Wheel-chair user + amputee - Idia helps him develop blueprints to make a 3D printed prosthetic leg as well as some funds to make sure he can customize it how he wants
Tyrell Roe - Twisted from Rex
He is baby, ok, please be nice to him
1/4 fae and proud, his grandpa is based on an actual T. Rex (yes I think that the really old fae should be based on dinosaurs so that the Draconias can be the THE Draconias, like they're the only ones based on a dragon, but that's an HC)
He get's anxious easily, his sweater is absolutely his comfort item
He is constantly inviting friends to his place and his mom is the sweetest person alive
He wants to get into engineering soo bad
He customized spoke guards for Brett's wheelchair/generally very artistic
The Betson Twins - Twisted from the Benson Brothers (Alec and Xander respectively bc their birth parents were only expecting one child so when they had a Bonus one they just split the OG name in half skfhlskdjfhlksjdf (AKA I could NOT think of a name for the second one and Xander fits fine))
Grew up in the foster care system, but adopted when they were 12
FIERCELY protective of their (adoptive) little sister (totally not a partial response to PTSD whaaaat)
Both come off as fairly intimidating, but as you get to know them. Alec is not. Xander can, but he's intense/passionate
Alec has dyslexia, when they were younger Xander would always read things out loud for him
Xander has high-functioning autism, please ask him about computer sciences or Norse mythology he wants to infodump so bad
Alec wears contact lenses, Xander can't stand the feeling of them
Elle Betson - Twisted from Gabby Gabby
Also raised in the foster system, adopted when she was 14, her brothers were 16
Selectively mute, but at home she's a little chatty patty
Steals Xander's jackets alllllll the time they are big and comfy and comforting
Can handle herself in a fight. Will never have to.
Wants to become a veterinarian eventually
Very artistic
She and Alec have a lot of friendly spats in the comfort of their home
Do not let her cook. This girl cannot do it to save her life.
Jordan Persnickety - Twisted from Jessie (I remember blushing so hard when I went to Disney and Jessie gave me my own special nickname I should have known I was queer sooner /j (I was 8 LMAO))
Sentient doll, don't ask me why they're a sentient doll and Cody isn't, they just are
Genderfluid, She/he/they pronouns, also Lesbian
Best friends with Brett, used to be close to Cody in high school but in college he just came off as so much meaner
Speaks with a thick southern accent/sounds similar to Epel
Doesn't really remember when or where she gained sentience, or for what purpose, but she'll take full advantage of it now
Lives at Brett's place, (she's got nowhere else to go), Brett's mom loves her
Customizes all her clothing
Taking karate at the moment with her own money
Volunteers at the local zoo
She painted on her own freckles
Blaire Morrison - Twisted from Bo Peep
Planned to go to Stonybrook, but was invited to RSA and accepted
Fashionista
Influencer + entrepreneur
Started a pajama company
Animal rights activist (has a connection to my other OC, Neo Capini)
Aussie
Looooves matcha (lies)
Larry Boscus - Twisted from Lotso Bear
He was a teacher at RSA, was recently fired and got hired at the community college to teach entry level mathematics
His fiancee cheated on him, so they broke up two months before the wedding
In a bad place mentally, treats everyone like they're below him and gets exasperated quickly
Picked up smoking to cope with life's stressors
Really going through that midlife crisis
Has a group of fan girls at the school that just pisses him off more
Looks as put-together as he can for work but he is a Mess

This is such bullshit. They’ve decided that there’s too much money going to causes that don’t align with corporate interests so they’re going to only give to things they agree with - including their own disaster relief.
Transcript of the email under the cut
[image transcript:
Dear customer,
In 2013, we launched AmazonSmile to make it easier for customers to support their favorite charities. However, after almost a decade, the program has not grown to create the impact that we had originally hoped. With so many eligible organizations—more than 1 million globally—our ability to have an impact was often spread too thin.
We are writing to let you know that we plan to wind down AmazonSmile by February 20, 2023. We will continue to pursue and invest in other areas where we’ve seen we can make meaningful change—from building affordable housing to providing access to computer science education for students in underserved communities to using our logistics infrastructure and technology to assist broad communities impacted by natural disasters.
To help charities that have been a part of the AmazonSmile program with this transition, we will be providing them with a one-time donation equivalent to three months of what they earned in 2022 through the program, and they will also be able to accrue additional donations until the program officially closes in February. Once AmazonSmile closes, charities will still be able to seek support from Amazon customers by creating their own wish lists.
As a company, we will continue supporting a wide range of other programs that help thousands of charities and communities across the U.S. For instance:
Housing Equity Fund: We’re investing $2 billion to build and preserve affordable housing in our hometown communities. In just two years, we’ve provided funding to create more than 14,000 affordable homes—and we expect to build at least 6,000 more in the coming months. These units will host more than 18,000 moderate- to low-income families, many of them with children. In one year alone, our investments have been able to increase the affordable housing stock in communities like Bellevue, Washington and Arlington, Virginia by at least 20%.
Amazon Future Engineer: We’ve funded computer science curriculum for more than 600,000 students across over 5,000 schools—all in underserved communities. We have plans to reach an additional 1 million students this year. We’ve also provided immediate assistance to 55,000 students in our hometown communities by giving them warm clothes for the winter, food, and school supplies.
Community Delivery Program: We’ve partnered with food banks in 35 U.S. cities to deliver more than 23 million meals, using our logistics infrastructure to help families in need access healthy food – and we plan to deliver 12 million more meals this year alone. In addition to our delivery services, we’ve also donated 30 million meals in communities across the country.
Amazon Disaster Relief: We’re using our logistics capabilities, inventory, and cloud technology to provide fast aid to communities affected by natural disasters. For example, we’ve created a Disaster Relief Hub in Atlanta with more than 1 million relief items ready for deployment, our Disaster Relief team has responded to more than 95 natural disasters, and we’ve donated more than 20 million relief products to nonprofits assisting communities on the ground.
Community Giving: We support hundreds of local nonprofits doing meaningful work in cities where our employees and their families live. For example, each year we donate hundreds of millions of dollars to organizations working to build stronger communities, from youth sport leagues, to local community colleges, to shelters for families experiencing homelessness.
We’ll continue working to make a difference in many ways, and our long-term commitment to our communities remains the same—we’re determined to do every day better for our customers, our employees, and the world at large.

Hi fellow doll, I hope you're doing fine. I've been quite busy lately, college and life in general have been kicking my ass, so I was forced to take a step back from social media for a while to try to contain the chaos.
Firstly, I'd like to share a fun fact with you! I don't know if you're aware but did you know that Lou's Mansion has a Pool? You can see it more clearly in the Mansion's Concept Designs/Art on this site:
However, the real reason for this ask is to present a possible answer/theory in regards to how the doll-sized phones came to be in the world of your stories (you can tell this is still related to our chat on Wattpad).
Recently, I came across the images you're seeing on Pinterest. They're Wide/Aerial Views of the Institute of Perfection and one thing that immediately stood out to me is that Giant Eye-Catching Dome behind the TV.
I mean what's its purpose, why is it even there to begin with and what's inside of it? I've been thinking about this for a while and would like to hear your thoughts about it as well, if you're willing to share them.
By any chance, have you seen the movie Wreck-it Ralph? There was a part where the villain enters the code of the game he's in and I think the Dome's purpose could follow a similar, if not equal, vein.
Now that I think about it, Lou and Vanellope's circunstances are almost identical, trapped in the same place for years without the option to leave, simply because of who they are and the traits they were born with, but didn't choose to have.
Sorry, I let my mind run on tangent there for a while, it wanders frequently which makes it hard to keep track of my line of thought.
To circle back to the main topic of discussion, what if the Dome is a Central Station of the Institute, like a Panel or Center for Command Control (or Command Control Center)? CCC for short? Ok, I'll stop trying to be funny...
Perhaps it could be a subroutine of the factory's software, a program linked to its network and wifi that contains all guidelines and rules that govern the Institute and must be followed and executed to keep it functional - a blueprint if you will - and is in charge of all commands, protocols, activities and operations being compiled and run by its machinery, such as the doll-scanner, the robots, the washing machine, the recycling, the Gauntlet plus the mechanical baby and dog and the Portal, just to name a few.
This means that it'd also take care of overseeing the integrity and performance of said machinery as well as its maintenance. It'd even be responsible for generating clouds and the artificial weather because apparently weather is still a thing, even though the Institute is inside of a factory.
I wonder if this subroutine would be run by an AI or simply an intelligent system/computer program. This world's version of Siri? 🤣
Or maybe I'm greatly exaggerating its function/letting my imagination run wild and it literally only gives Electricity for TV and Institute. Where was I going with this? /were we again?
Morever, it could be a storage unit that contains all collected, analysed and reviewed data regarding the inhabitants of the Institute and their responses, physical or emotional, to certain pre-determined stimuli.
It could also have a list of the factory's Perfection Standards: what consists/constitutes a Perfect Doll / product, its traits...
what can go to the market and which flaws/imperfections can't be ignored/overlooked and have to go to the recycling immediately, kinda like separating fruit/food
To sum up, it's the Institute's "rulebook", but instead of being specifically made for the prototype, it's more expansive and focuses on the Institute as a whole.
After the events of the movie, dolls with engineer role job created phones with recicled parts dangerous/turned the recycling into a good thing/while recycling was turned of and parts are human sized, plenty to spare and create phone since dolls come back now, have free time to assemble the parts and construct them and connected them to the signals/frequency emitted by the dome or they hack/steal or find out the password/'hijack' the signals🤣, use it to make them connect with each other but can't enter the dome without proper authorizations/permissions
Fun fact #2: Lou animatronic, would be a hipocrite if he called the Uglydolls "Ugly" has never seen a Mirror before
•https://www.indigobluepencil.com/ugly
Scroll almost to the middle (pre-planned concepts: dome by TV and washing machine, Big baby, Lou, Mandy, Tuesday and Kitty, Victoria, Perfection Council/of Dolls=board of investors directors reference)
Had to restart Two Times... I hope you found this ask both entertaining and informative. Hopefully it'll give you Inspiration for your stories...
Okay, I had to do quite a bit of research and asked someone who knows a lot more about computers than I do.
So, I do agree that the dome has an electronic purpose. It really surprises me that STX animated an entire dome within the Institute and literally spoke nothing of it or what's inside of it. Like, seriously, it's huge and can't just be empty on the inside.
My theory, after some research, is that the inside of the dome is essentially a hard drive computer tower. For you younger folk who weren't raised in a 90's home, here's what I'm talking about:
These things right here used to be what would get hooked up to older Dell/Windows computers. The ones that weighed, like, 50 pounds and took up an entire desk.
Instead of a dvd player (which I didn't get one until maybe 8 years old) I would stick my Kidz Bop cd or movie into that slot at the top and watch the movie on the computer with Video Player.
Count your blessings.
But this is what I believe is inside that dome. These things are what holds the CPU (central processing unit), GPU (graphic processing unit), and stores the memory, data, audio, and everything of the computer.
@natalie-the-writer and I have a running fanon that the company is older. The technology is older, the building is older, and everything is set in a pretty retro time period. So, this hard drive tower is connected to those bulky take-up-all-the-space-on-the-desk-computers.
The GPU in this system is also what control the day/night cycle in the Institute and the weather. It essentially simulates a troposphere and an environment that makes the dolls comfortable and prepared for the Big World.
The CPU is how the data is transferred. Info from the robots is controlled and processed, the Individualization scanners are monitored, the portal is opened and closed, the TV runs, and the holographic tutorials Moxy and her friends see in the beginning are kept on, all of it.
It basically functions as the brain of the Institute, but the sole controller and monitor of it is the CEO (Greyson Everett).
I also like to think that Lou's microchip (another fanon thought between Natalie and I) is also monitored via this hard drive tower. Any information that Lou learns and processes is sent into separate files on the computers back in the company building.
This is why in my Shell-Shock series, when Lou's emotions go south, the Institute begins to get windy when he's hyperventilating or rains when he cries. The ground trembles when he has body tremors and the lights flicker when his powers are used. He is literally connected to the whole Institute because his microchip and its data accidentally grow and manifest themselves into the files of the other Institute functions. His programming basically goes rogue and infects the Institute system like a virus.
I'm veering toward the explanation that results in Lou being the first successful form of Artificial Intelligence. But, for the moment, he is basically acting like a virus and it's not until he learns to control this new system he's connected to that it stops becoming a deadly thing.
#uglydolls#lou#writing#ask#answer#theories#fanon theories#feel free to have your own thoughts#I'm just ranting#this is so interesting thank you for asking this

Hollow || Elias Solo
Timing: Current
Location: Home
Warnings: Mental health
Summary: Elias receives messages from his family. It reminds him of what he ran from.
June 18th, 12:16 pm Mom: When are you going to talk to us again?
June 18th, 4:28 pm
Ahmir: We’re worried about you, Eli. Please call Mom.
June 20th, 8:15 am
Dad: It’s been two months since we’ve last heard from you. At least let us know that you’re alive.
June 27th, 1:11pm
Elias: I’m alive.
[Unsent: I’ve found a place to live and have met new friends. I’m trying to get better.]
[Unsent: I’m sorry that I’m a failure]
Elias stared at his phone in silence for what felt like hours. It had been two months since he had left home to find himself. All he had left for his family was a long-winded voicemail to his mother saying that he needed to start over and felt like his life wasn’t his own and out of control. He had spent years studying to get into a good college, and then spent years studying in college to graduate at the top of his class. Valedictorian of the class of 2009. He had given a speech about how important their education was, and how they would go on to do great things and be great people.
It had been bullshit.
He had worked as a medical engineer for 13 years, always well-liked by his peers. He wore a smile on his face and did everything that came his way to the best of his abilities. He had always gotten stellar performance reviews. He had been making six figures and had his own home. His parents only had to worry about him finding someone to settle down with and get his head out of the clouds.
It had been a sham.
He had hiked the pacific crest trail with his friend. It had taken him three months, a feat in itself. His friend had left a month in due to an injury. Elias kept on. He hiked and slept, bathed in rivers, and set his food high in the trees to avoid the bears. He had worked hard to train for that trip, which should have been the height of his athletic accomplishments.
It felt like a hollow victory.
Now, he sat in the spare room of Gael’s house while working at a bar, constantly asking him to perform the strangest of tasks he found himself compelled to do. He found himself divulging information about himself to complete strangers, only to have them smile in delight. He was now told not to say thank you, to be careful who he trusted. He had seen things that defied logic and explanation.
So maybe he had been working a job he wasn’t happy with. He made good money. He had a family that loved him and was worried about him. He was finally making friends that didn’t care that he was a little strange. So why did he still feel so empty? A hollow part of him needed to be filled like something was missing. This town was as strange as it had claimed to be and more, almost too much so. But some mysteries demanded answers, things that defied logic and needed an explanation.
So, sat in that spare room, the only light illuminating the room was his computer. He typed into the search bar one phrase:
Wicked’s Rest cryptid sightings

Sam Madden named faculty head of computer science in EECS
New Post has been published on https://thedigitalinsider.com/sam-madden-named-faculty-head-of-computer-science-in-eecs/
Sam Madden named faculty head of computer science in EECS
Sam Madden, the College of Computing Distinguished Professor of Computing at MIT, has been named the new faculty head of computer science in the MIT Department of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science (EECS), effective Aug. 1.
Madden succeeds Arvind, a longtime MIT professor and prolific computer scientist, who passed away in June.
“Sam’s research leadership and commitment to excellence, along with his thoughtful and supportive approach, makes him a natural fit to help lead the department going forward. In light of Arvind’s passing, we are particularly grateful that Sam has agreed to take on this role on such short notice,” says Daniel Huttenlocher, dean of the MIT Schwarzman College of Computing and the Henry Ellis Warren Professor of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science.
“Sam’s exceptional research contributions in database management systems, coupled with his deep understanding of both academia and industry, make him an excellent fit for faculty head of computer science. The EECS department and broader School of Engineering will greatly benefit from his expertise and passion,” adds Anantha Chandrakasan, chief innovation and strategy officer, dean of engineering, and Vannevar Bush Professor of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science.
Madden joins the leadership of EECS, which jointly reports to the MIT Schwarzman College of Computing and the School of Engineering. The largest academic department at MIT, EECS was reorganized in 2019 as part of the formation of the college into three overlapping sub-units in electrical engineering (EE), computer science (CS), and artificial intelligence and decision-making (AI+D). The restructuring has enabled each of the three sub-units to concentrate on faculty recruitment, mentoring, promotion, academic programs, and community building in coordination with the others.
“I am delighted that Sam has agreed to step up to take on this important leadership role. His unique combination of academic excellence and forward-looking focus will be invaluable for us,” says Asu Ozdaglar, MathWorks Professor and head of EECS, who also serves as the deputy dean of the MIT Schwarzman College of Computing. “I am confident that he will offer exceptional leadership in his new role and further strengthen EECS for our students and the MIT community.”
A member of the MIT faculty since 2004, Madden is a professor in EECS and a principal investigator in the Computer Science and Artificial Intelligence Laboratory. He was recognized as the inaugural College of Computing Distinguished Professor of Computing in 2020 for being an outstanding faculty member, leader, and innovator.
Madden’s research interest is in database systems, focusing on database analytics and query processing, ranging from clouds to sensors to modern high-performance server architectures. He co-directs the Data Systems for AI Lab initiative and the Data Systems Group, investigating issues related to systems and algorithms for data focusing on applying new methodologies for processing data, including applying machine learning methods to data systems and engineering data systems for applying machine learning at scale.
He was named one of MIT Technology Review’s “Top 35 Under 35” in 2005 and an ACM Fellow in 2020. He is the recipient of several awards, including an NSF CAREER award, a Sloan Foundation Fellowship, the ACM SIGMOD Edgar F. Codd Innovations Award, and “test of time” awards from VLDB, SIGMOD, SIGMOBILE, and SenSys. He is also the co-founder and chief scientist at Cambridge Mobile Telematics, which develops technology to make roads safer and drivers better.

How To Get An Online Internship In the IT Sector (Skills And Tips)
Internships provide invaluable opportunities to gain practical skills, build professional networks, and get your foot in the door with top tech companies.
With remote tech internships exploding in IT, online internships are now more accessible than ever. Whether a college student or career changer seeking hands-on IT experience, virtual internships allow you to work from anywhere.
However, competition can be fierce, and simply applying is often insufficient. Follow this comprehensive guide to develop the right technical abilities.
After reading this, you can effectively showcase your potential, and maximize your chances of securing a remote tech internship.
Understand In-Demand IT Skills
The first step is gaining a solid grasp of the most in-demand technical and soft skills. While specific requirements vary by company and role, these competencies form a strong foundation:
Technical Skills:
>> Proficiency in programming languages like Python, JavaScript, Java, and C++ >> Experience with front-end frameworks like React, Angular, and Vue.js >> Back-end development skills - APIs, microservices, SQL databases >> Cloud platforms such as AWS, Azure, Google Cloud >> IT infrastructure skills - servers, networks, security >> Data science abilities like SQL, R, Python >> Web development and design >> Mobile app development - Android, iOS, hybrid
Soft Skills:
>> Communication and collaboration >> Analytical thinking and problem-solving >> Leadership and teamwork >> Creativity and innovation >> Fast learning ability >> Detail and deadline-oriented >> Flexibility and adaptability
Obtain Relevant Credentials
While hands-on skills hold more weight, relevant academic credentials and professional IT certifications can strengthen your profile. Consider pursuing:
>> Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, IT, or related engineering fields. >> Internship-specific courses teaching technical and soft skills. >> Certificates like CompTIA, AWS, Cisco, Microsoft, Google, etc. >> Accredited boot camp programs focusing on applied skills. >> MOOCs to build expertise in trending technologies like AI/ML, cybersecurity. >> Open source contributions on GitHub to demonstrate coding skills.
The right credentials display a work ethic and supplement practical abilities gained through projects.
Build An Impressive Project Portfolio
Nothing showcases skills better than real-world examples of your work. Develop a portfolio of strong coding, design, and analytical projects related to your target internship field.
>> Mobile apps - publish on app stores or use GitHub project pages >> Websites - deploy online via hosting services >> Data science - showcase Jupyter notebooks, visualizations >> Open source code - contribute to public projects on GitHub >> Technical writing - blog posts explaining key concepts >> Automation and scripts - record demo videos
Choose projects demonstrating both breadth and depth. Align them to skills required for your desired internship roles.
Master Technical Interview Skills
IT internship interviews often include challenging technical questions and assessments. Be prepared to:
>> Explain your code and projects clearly. Review them beforehand. >> Discuss concepts related to key technologies on your resume. Ramp up on fundamentals. >> Solve coding challenges focused on algorithms, data structures, etc. Practice online judges like LeetCode. >> Address system design and analytical problems. Read case interview guides. >> Show communication and collaboration skills through pair programming tests. >> Ask smart, well-researched questions about the company’s tech stack, projects, etc.
Schedule dedicated time for technical interview practice daily. Learn to think aloud while coding and get feedback from peers.
Show Passion and Curiosity
Beyond raw skills, demonstrating genuine passion and curiosity for technology goes a long way.
>> Take online courses and certifications beyond the college curriculum >> Build side projects and engage in hackathons for self-learning >> Stay updated on industry news, trends, and innovations >> Be active on forums like StackOverflow to exchange knowledge >> Attend tech events and conferences >> Participate in groups like coding clubs and prior internship programs >> Follow tech leaders on social media >> Listen to tech podcasts while commuting >> Show interest in the company’s mission, products, and culture
This passion shines through in interviews and applications, distinguishing you from other candidates.
Promote Your Personal Brand
In the digital age, your online presence and personal brand are make-or-break. Craft a strong brand image across:
>> LinkedIn profile - showcase achievements, skills, recommendations >> GitHub - displays coding activity and quality through clean repositories >> Portfolio website - highlight projects and share valuable content >> Social media - post career updates and useful insights, but avoid oversharing >> Blogs/videos - demonstrate communication abilities and thought leadership >> Online communities - actively engage and build relationships
Ensure your profiles are professional and consistent. Let your technical abilities and potential speak for themselves.
Optimize Your Internship Applications
Applying isn’t enough. You must optimize your internship applications to get a reply:
>> Ensure you apply to openings that strongly match your profile >> Customize your resume and cover letters using keywords in the job description >> Speak to skills gained from coursework, online learning, and personal projects >> Quantify achievements rather than just listing responsibilities >> Emphasize passion for technology and fast learning abilities >> Ask insightful questions that show business understanding >> Follow up respectfully if you don’t hear back in 1-2 weeks >> Show interest in full-time conversion early and often >> Apply early since competitive openings close quickly >> Leverage referrals from your network if possible
This is how you do apply meaningfully. If you want a good internship, focus on the quality of applications. The hard work will pay off.
