monster but everything monsterous was a lie is cool but if the monster is kind and gentle and a human that purrs then WHO is going to catch a bunny and bring me its corpse becuz it noticed i forgot lunch and the bunny was right there and it looked like the right size for me and speak in a language that i cant make the right sounds for and the other way a monster whos throat cants make the right sound for some human languages who growls and puffs up its fur becuz its happy to see me or doesnt move all day in the lake like an alligator i started growling when im happy to see someone an uncanny valley monster that looks like me but Wrong watches minecraft videos with me we like to switch outfits and see how long it takes for people to notice there are languages that are a mix of human and monster languages there is a post going around about how human clothingmakers keep thinking that wings only need a few inches to fit through a slit in a shirt they are so incredibly monstrous and humanity is not an opposite

Clothing and Accessory Things

Erinaens

Are not generally a species that wears clothes. The fur on a healthy individual is quite thick and warm, shared body heat is the norm, they’ve got nothing they’d wish to hide for modesty’s sake, and clothing could impede the movement of and tracking of young kittens.

Clothing, for Erinaens, is all about keeping the weather off- generally rain or snow

Cloaks and coverings for the feet, hands, and tail are the general go-to bad weather things.

Foot, hand, and tail coverings are most commonly either gloves/sleeves of sorts or, more often, wraps.

Cloaks are what they sound like, though due to the manes Erinaen hoods aren’t really hoods so much. Instead of hoods Erinaen cloaks have long, wide strips of fabric sewed to one shoulder, which are draped over the head and then back over the shoulders

Clothing is typically made of plant fibers, leather, or fur

Because they’re not often worn, clothes aren’t a major source of self expression for Erinaens. But, this doesn’t meant they aren’t ever, and many clothingmakers offer varied colors and personalized embroidery

Jewelry is relatively commonplace, especially piercings and bands, though the species has gained an appreciation for chains and ribbons from the Osmosians

Jewelry is traditionally made from wood, nuts/seeds, bone, and crystal, though in the past millennia metal and plastics have become more commonplace

Jewelry including Osmosian teeth and/or antlers is commonplace in mixed communities

Dying of fur and manes is also common, often in temporary designs and bold colors

Also not big on clothes, mostly because the biggest struggle you have to worry about weatherwise on Osmos V is heat (which they eat through their skin) and wind (which they can lessen the impact of through absorbing stone or metal, again through their skin)

Areas on the shore of the seas have a bigger clothing culture, because the seas make for a wider range of weather

Clothing is generally used as a form of accessory, and is normally kept small and unobtrusive. Short skirts, tubetops, shit like that

Sometimes you see capes, especially on individuals under 400- these serve no purpose, it’s literally just fashion inspired by watching shit from other cultures

Jewelry of various sorts is common, mostly decorative chains, strips of leather, rings, and ribbons in all sorts of combinations

Materials for all accessories and clothing are bone, stone, leather, metals, and synthetics for those who can get a hold of them

Color choice is very deliberate, most commonly being an individual’s clan colors, or at least being highly accented in them (example: the Levin clan is most commonly found in bright blue, yellow, and red, while the Imperial clan is known for their iridescent grey, only found in the synthetics they import)

Scarrification is common, as are tattoos

Holyfolk wear no clothing and minimal jewelry, generally only their sacred charm and a small selection of electrum bangles

Perison

Finally, somebody with some fucking clothes on

Shoes aren’t generally a thing, nor are gloves, but shirts and pants are standard daily wear for Perison

Calves are generally allowed to run around naked as long as it’s not in public (so, where non-relatives might see) (listen they’ve got long legs and not a lot of coordination yet we don’t need to give them more things to trip over or get caught on) but once you hit like six you’re putting on some damn clothes

This is actually one of the few areas where there’s not a lot of divide between what men do and what women do. Most clothing variation is a class divide more than anything.

Bachelors do tend to have more heavily ornamented clothes though, mostly because they’re generally the ones buying beads and dyed threads and fabrics and transporting them around

Boldly colored clothes are the norm, often with printed patterns, but level of ornamentation varies.

Most everything has some level of embroidery, but the amount of embroidery, beading, value of beading, all go up as the wealth does

You will wonder how ambassadors and such can move under all that shit

Pants are the default leg covering option, with skirts, dresses, and the like being a very upper class thing. This is a retention from the not-so-old days when it was illegal for people below a certain social status to wear them. These laws are no longer in place in most areas, and it’s not rare to see men and women of the lower classes both in skirts and dresses, but the shift of balance hasn’t completely happened yet.

Because nix’s ‘Perison have tails’ thing is the best- pants button in the back, above the tail

Fabric is generally made of mosdal hair or plant fibers, with fur being more common in northerly areas.

Also, Perison are the only species listed here that wear a lot of hats. Most common head covering

Jewelry isn’t all that common though, and is normally seen worn either by the poor (who can’t afford heavily adorned clothes) or the wealthy (who really are just showing off (remember that ‘queen of chunk jewelry’ comic? they really start to look like that))

The most common jewelry is anklets and tail rings/bands, often made of wood, metal, or stone
