Cleo's Scarab Beetle Babies

Holding an ice cream cone, Cleo fixes her hair, which makes the ice cream fall off the cone onto the floor. A group of scarabs pick it up and put it back on the cone as Cleo smiles thankfully at that. Then she holds out an arm as they return under her bandages.

Cleo holds up her arms one at a time as two groups of scarabs return under her bandages.

Clawdeen pouts disappointingly, then her ears pick up a sound. She excitedly rushes off, only to crash into Cleo, comedically knocking the scarabs out of her, as they both fall down. As Cleo complains to Clawdeen for knocking her over, her scarabs crawl up her chest and over her shoulders to her back.

Cleo anxiously looks down at her phone, to see it says she only has 52 followers. One of her scarabs is perched on her phone, and it covers up the number.

As her friends all rush off, Cleo stays in the school hallway and talks to one of her scarabs, that first moves to perch on her phone, then jumps to her shoulder, and then moves to her hand when Cleo raises it and brings it up to her face.

Cleo talks to the scarab perched on her hand. Then a camera shot shows a close up of the scarab, looking confused.

Clawdeen packs her things in her backpack, then picks up a chip bag, taking out a chip and about to eat it, when she realizes three scarabs were in the bag and are now clinging to her hand, wanting the chip back.

As Cleo walks over to Clawdeen, the scarabs in the chip bag return to her, pulling the bag and Clawdeen's arms toward Cleo, as much as Clawdeen tries to fight against the force.

Cleo comes close and grabs Clawdeen's arm as she gestures. Then Clawdeen hugs her, and a close-up shot shows one of the scarabs on Clawdeen's shoulder and hugging her as well.

Cleo looks through Clawdeen's human yearbook as one of her scarabs sits on the page. It watches and follows as Cleo gestures to the different images. Then Cleo sees Clawdeen's computer on her desk and distractedly shuts the book on her scarab, who gets stuck inside and wiggles with its head and arms sticking out.

As Clawdeen bursts into her room, Cleo flinches. Then she turns Clawdeen's computer around for her to see. Three of Cleo's scarabs are typing on it by jumping on the keys, and another is on the computer screen.

A single scarab is on the computer keyboard, with a GPS on the screen. The scarab jumps on a key, and then flies onto the screen and follows the route line from point A to point B.

Cleo closes the laptop and paces excitedly before raising her arms. The scarab flies close to the laptop, watching and listening to Cleo.

Cleo flips her hair with her hand, then flips it the other way by swinging her head, as a group of her scarabs fly from under her hair to behind her.

Cleo stands angrily looking at two humans who are ignoring her, then she turns around and talks to the scarab on her shoulder. She holds up a finger to let it jump onto, and then she affectionately pets it.

Cleo talks and gestures, as three scarabs pop up one by one on her shoulders.

As Cleo floats in the air, activating a curse, the camera zooms in as several of her scarabs pop up to look at something, growing excited. Then they all leave Cleo en masse, appearing as a swarm coming from Cleo as she continues to float and use her curse, as lightning flashes in the background.

Cleo looks up, admiring her work, as one of her scarabs flies over to perch on her shoulder. End ID]

Cleo’s scarabs expressing jealously like pets is the funniest scenario that just came into my mind

Like, Cleo would be giving Frankie attention and physical affection and her self proclaimed “beetle babies” would be in the background like 😡👎

Cleo asked her Beetle Babies for help with her valentine's gift.

can you imagine her following frankie to the lab one day maybe during Watzie's migration, looking around at the mess, and just being the BEST, MOST HAPPIEST lab assistant ever??

like frankie's fumbling around for a tool they dropped somewhere a minute ago they think maybe right around when they got that new idea- and cleo doesn't know a wrench from a screwdriver BUUUUT she HAS arranged all the tools by size, shape, color, and how often frankie seems to need them! she's gleefully taking selfies with all the neatly sorted tools, puzzling over them as frankie cheerfully gives a really specific description of the one they need right now, handing it over with So Much Pride and frankie always takes a moment to smile at her for it and and and

cleo getting to do something that's not at aLLL connected to social networking or boosting her fame among the masses, no, it's just her getting nerdy about how the uh "drill bits" should be arranged, maybe her ideas are a little unusual at times but frankie thinks that's super fun and amazing!

AND IMAGINE FRANKIE EXTRA LOVING her odd comments and questions, she's like frankie's rubber duck and muse all wrapped into one asking "so how does the thing move the thingy?" and "aww, it kinda looks like a scarab!" and "ok. but what if! sparkles~"

cleo takes off her social filter, and it's impossible for frankie to stay stuck on a problem for more than a minute before cleo jogs them into a new way of thinking their brain bits are all zapping on overdrive and-

okay so maybe they drop stuff on their foot a few times getting distracted by cleo

cleo being so pretty and happy and perfect and Right There but the stuff only falls on their metal foot half the time and it's Worth It anyway

IM IN LOVE WITH THEM BOTH BEING HAPPILY CONFUSING AND WEIRD TOGETHER OK

clawdeen and drac drop by with drinks like usual, but they just stand in the doorway for a while, trying to understand What The Heck Is Happening as frankie and cleo have like five different conversations at once about what kind of eye-liner to etch on the robot and whether it'd be easier to fix the code or just make tiny little controls and have cleo's beetle babies pilot it like a mecha

Cleo helping Frankie out with social cues they haven’t come across yet because once upon a time she was a freshly embalmed mummy brought to life and she still can’t really read a room but she’s trying and she knows they are too so she just teaches them the popular response to key phrases in social situations and then completely tears down the entire lesson because Frankie should get to speak their many combined minds and decide for themselves outside of social rules and boundaries

Okay, time to talk about all my favorite (and least favorite) details about Pharrah de Nile.

Not so much a review as it just a brief run-down of the doll and her accessories.

Under a read more because it ended up getting kind of long.

Box photos.

The family art is super cute. I love how Pharrah and Lux are gamer kids, it really fits well with how into games Cleo used to get on the original series of webisodes. It also reflects the origins of the Western board game coming out of Ancient Egypt, where tabletops battles was a pastime for the royal family, so that’s some fun little nerd history right there.

... Not gonna lie, the baby doing a peace sign for the photo is kinda creepy.

(The baby has been like 1 year old for the past 3,000 years or something and, while I am curious about the mental age of Sandy, that’s a thought for another day.)

Pharrah’s doll and her accessories.

The game pieces and dice are just recycled molds from the Deuce and Gil Game Night Two-Pack, but the board itself is new. Not sure what game it’s supposed to be a reference to (Candyland, maybe?).

I have mixed feelings about her shoes. I don’t like them because of how big and clunky they look in comparison to her body, but they actually have a really nice design to them, complete with studded gems along the bottom, wrappings on the side, and Ra’s scarab beetle on the toe.

Her necklace is separate from the dress and also features Ra’s scarab.

I don’t like the plastic bow on her head.

The dress has a really nice design and is really easy to remove or put back on.

Her ponytail is in at an angle and if it were any lower it would be a side-ponytail.

The jewel on her cheek is a silver star for some reason.

Edit: I forget to mention - her head is attached at a tilt and can only point down. Her head turns from side to side, but there’s not much you can do to account for the downwards head tilt.

Separated out.

Her arms only rotate straight up and down, with no outward movement.

Her legs do the same but at an angle, so they assume a ‘V’ shape when she sits. She also doesn’t sit well, as her hair is heavier than her legs and tends to pull her back or the side.

She can do a cute mummy walk though.

Facial comparison between Pharrah and Nefera.

They actually have the same lavender colored eyes and similar eyebrow shapes, but, other than that, they don’t quite look related (which only furthers my headcanon that Pharrah and Lux are Cleo’s and Nefera’s half-siblings, to be honest).

Height comparison with normal sized dolls. She’s so tiny!

There’s just random letters framed up on the wall I’m dying.

Pharrah with an actual ribbon on her head because the plastic bow is... not in my taste.

She can’t really sit well, but she can weasel piggyback rides!

On the whole, I like her and I think she’s worth the $9 I spent on her.

“Take them off.”

“What?”

“You heard me.  Take.  Them.  Off.”

Deuce snakes hummed with hesitation.

“Cleo, it’s a bad idea.”

“Oh, it’s not like it’s for eternity.  I just want to see them.”

Deuce bit the inside of his cheek.  Cleo’s slender hands reached up and brushed against his temples - along the hooks of his shades.

“Cleo...”

“Just one look.  That’s all I want.”

He didn’t say anything after that.  As if she were handling a baby scarab beetle, she gently lifted the hooks off his ears.  He didn’t fight her.  Then slowly, ever so slowly, the lenses lifted up as well.

Cleo, princess of the Nile and owner of countless jewels and treasures, had never seen anything more beautiful.  Gleaming brighter than the finest cut emerald, with microscopic flecks of gold swimming around his slightly reptilian pupils.  Their shape, the way they sat on his face and complimented every one of his features.  Cleo lost her breath.

Then lost feeling in her limbs.

She came to in her bed, every joint in her body screaming.  Deuce lay beside her, cradling her in his arms, sunglasses rightly returned to his face.

“Was it worth it?”

Cleo wrapped her arms around him, head resting on his chest.

“Absolutely.”

Cleo's Scarab Beetle Babies + HorrorScare

Cleo holds out her icoffin with a picture of Pearl Ryuzaki on it. Four beetles come crawling from her shoulder to her hand, and look at the screen. Then Cleo turns her phone back around to look at herself, and the beetles return under the bandages on her arms.

Four beetles each holding a cooking ingredient take them over to Frankie, who is baking. Frankie adds each ingredient to the batter, then the beetles high-five each other and turn around. Cleo comes over to stand beside Frankie and rests her arm on the table, and the beetles climb on and return under her bandages.

Cleo looks at her icoffin and, upon seeing Pearl's latest social media update, faux faints onto the nearby couch. A beetle that was on the couch flinches and braces itself as Cleo lands on top of it.

Cleo holds out her arms elegantly. Two beetles appear from under her bandages on her wrist and foot, as well as on the one on the couch, and shrug at her. End ID]

Cleo's Scarab Beetle Babies + Sparks & Spells

part of Cleo's scarab swam dies. Tragic. Frankie dumps them in a salt water bath like they're a packet of ramen flavoring and zaps them back to life, but the charge connects the bugs they develop a hive mind and a singular personality and are a kid now, so Cleo goes "MINE! DIBS I CALL DIBS" and Frankie's like "oh fun! i wanna help!"

now the two are trying to parent an energetic cloud of beetle babies that named herself "Khepriah"
