Claude Cahun (born Lucy Renee Mathilde Schwob, 25 October 1894 – 8 December 1954) was a French surrealist photographer, sculptor, and writer.
Schwob adopted the pseudonym Claude Cahun in 1914. Cahun is best known as a writer and self-portraitist, who assumed a variety of performative personae.
Cahun's work is both political and personal. In Disavowals, they write : "Masculine? Feminine? It depends on the situation. Neuter is the only gender that always suits me."

#ClaudeCahun #autoritratto #foto #fotografia #selfie #arte#identitàsessuale #StorieDimenticate https://www.instagram.com/p/BqhhdeRB8L5/?utm_source=ig_tumblr_share&igshid=9l2a8nn5ztks

002) Claude Cahun: A French Surrealist that is best known for her surrealist photos and self-portraits that defy and challenge gender roles and identity. Her home was often an artist’s salon with other famous surrealists such as André Breton. She lived with her step-sibling turned lover, Marcel Moore for the rest of her life until her death in 1954. Her later life was exacerbated by bad health due to her time in prison during the last year of WWII after she and Marcel were caught and sentenced to death due their open resistance and political activism in Nazi-occupied France. I remember seeing a blurb once in my art history class and then another in a women’s art studies class but we never once talked about her or Marcel. Being a naïve college student, ignorant of any sort of non-binary or queer gender representation, I could never understand or wrap my head about who they were. This is precisely why open discussion of gender is needed today! #andtheywerequeer #claudecahun #queer #queerhistory #lesbians #queerart #frenchsurrealists https://www.instagram.com/p/Bow8T-gAZ6-/?utm_source=ig_tumblr_share&igshid=qu6hn320971k
