So… Oklahoma just introduced this "classrooms to careers" platform thing… And it's basically forced military service for poor and disabled people?

The governor… I think his name is Shitt? From what I can read of it is saying he's going to make graduating from high school mandatory. But also if you want to graduate from high school, you have to either be enrolled in college/university or a trade school or the military.

So guess what happens if you can't afford college/university (or don't have the grades for it) and you also can't afford to trade school or are physically unable to do it?

Forced military service. And again you can't even drop out to avoid it. He wants to make it mandatory to have a high school diploma.

Absolutely insane.

reading hell teacher nube at my friend's strong recommendation and while I am a famous hater of default familial readings of mentor-student relationships we can agree that this is. like. a demonstration of paternal authority right. we can agree that the guy whose character concept is "teacher who defines himself by his ability to protect and guide his students in a nurturing but still appropriately masculine way (by beating up yokai but, like, for the children!)" is a character that a lot of ideas about the roles of both adults and children and the ways adults and children should be are bound up in. right.

I am a proud hater of classroom behavior charts, like what purpose do they serve other than public humiliation. What beef could a 30 year old kindergarten teacher have with a 5 year old? And on this topic, the taking away of recess is cruel and unnecessary. Cause I gander that maybe the behavior is development of personality in the actual child.

my students who are struggling in my math class are also the ones struggling with not just media literacy but literacy in general

considering the material you were given, what questions are being asked about the material, and how you might approach the material to justify reaching a particular conclusion are all steps in solving math problems AND in being critical of media

maybe, as adults, we could finally stop pitting school subjects against each other, and instead recognize that the devaluation of any one subject ultimately serves as justification for underfunding or eliminating public education as a whole?
