Fuck Aileen Cannon and fuck Donald Trump.
Cannon is showing favoritism towards the tre45on guy. She has moved the trial to a Trump-friendly town without anyone asking for change of venue.
She needs to be removed from this case.
Judge Aileen Cannon set Donald Trump's classified documents trial to start on May 20, 2024.
Special counsel Jack Smith had pushed for a December start date. Trump wanted to push off the trial through the 2024 election, in which a Republican victory could make any federal charges against Trump disappear.
At a Tuesday hearing in Florida federal court, Cannon was reportedly skeptical of both sides' positions on trial timing.
A busy trial schedule is shaping up for Trump on criminal matters alone, with his New York hush money trial already set for March 2024. More criminal trial dates could come, both in Georgia and in Smith's other probe, which, like the Georgia inquiry, centers on 2020 election interference.

From the July 2, 2024 article:
Justice Department officials plan to pursue the criminal cases against Donald Trump past Election Day even if he wins, under the belief that department rules against charging or prosecuting a sitting president would not kick in until Inauguration Day in January, according to people familiar with the discussions.
...
“The Justice Department isn’t governed by the election calendar. Its prosecution of Trump is based on the law, the facts and the Justice Manual — the department’s bible that lays out the post-Watergate norms that have prevented it from being weaponized,” said Anthony Coley, a former Justice Department spokesman for Attorney General Merrick Garland who left the agency last year. “Until those norms change, or they’re ordered otherwise, I’d expect this Justice Department to be full speed ahead. And they should be.”
...
Even when the case in D.C. resumes, there are likely to be a series of pretrial battles in addition to the immunity questions that consume a significant amount of time. Given the pace of hearings to date in the two federal cases, it’s possible that even with the longer time window until Inauguration Day, neither will go to trial by then.
If Trump wins the presidency, his legal team probably would ask the judges overseeing the cases to dismiss the charges outright, or at least put the cases on ice while he is president. Trump’s attorney general could also move to have the charges dropped.

Mark Sumner at Daily Kos:
Donald Trump's theft of classified documents was worse than anyone knew, as additional documents were released Tuesday showing that, months after the FBI search of Mar-a-Lago, documents were found in Trump’s bedroom and classified material was allegedly copied to a laptop for Trump’s Save America PAC.
Trump’s legal team is currently attempting to have all of the evidence thrown out, claiming that the search was unconstitutional and “illegal.” Judge Aileen Cannon is set to hold a hearing on Wednesday on a defense motion to completely dismiss the charges against Trump. How does The New York Times cover this—new evidence in what is arguably the biggest presidential scandal in history and a Trump-appointed judge holding the case in her hands—on its front page? It doesn’t. The Times does have a story on the documents, but it's hidden inside under the headline "Trump Lawyers Accuse Prosecutors of Misconduct in Documents Case." Like the headline, the first paragraph of the story focuses on how federal prosecutors are fighting “allegations of misconduct and politicization in how the government handled the investigation that led to an indictment accusing Mr. Trump of illegally holding on to classified documents after he left office.”
[...] Contrast this with The Washington Post coverage headlined “Unsealed motions in Trump’s Fla. case suggest new evidence of possible obstruction.” This article does more than announce that supporting documents were released. It even mentions how the documents contain evidence that a Trump employee avoided the view of security cameras when moving boxes of documents. The Post article also discusses how the FBI search warrant included standard language authorizing the use of deadly force, which Trump is now trying to politicize with claims that President Joe Biden sent the FBI to Mar-a-Lago to assassinate him. Better still, contrast The New York Times’ coverage with how it covered the story when former FBI Director James Comey announced that the agency was reopening its investigation into Hillary Clinton’s emails. The day after Comey spoke, every single column of the Times’ front page was devoted to the possibility that a document might appear on a laptop. [...]
It’s not as if The New York Times doesn’t cover some Trump scandals. It had daily coverage of Trump’s criminal trial over charges of falsifying classified documents. With the trial happening blocks from its offices, that was a bit hard to avoid. And it did dispatch Maggie Haberman, so she was there to hear former Trump fixer Michael Cohen testify that she was one of his go-to choices when he wanted to find someone to write favorable news about Trump. David Pecker, former publisher of The National Enquirer, disclosed new details during his testimony about the “catch-and-kill” deal that he, Cohen, and Trump worked out to protect Trump’s 2016 run for the White House. But it’s clear that Trump no longer needs that deal. Congratulations, Mr. Sulzberger. You’re the new David Pecker.
The New York Times seeks to help enable Donald Trump's crime spree by giving more attention to right-wing pseudo-scandals designed to hurt Joe Biden than Trump's actual crimes and scandals.

Are the Trump indictments election interference? asked someone whose question I will take in good faith against my better judgment.
The American presidential election (November 5, 2024) is more than a year away. There is more than a whole year for these four (4) trials to occur. If candidates want to start campaigning (and have already been campaigning) year(s) in advance, that is not the American judicial system's problem. Do not let anyone tell you that "I DECLARE CAMPAIGN SO YOU CAN'T TOUCH ME" is how this works.
I welcome criminal charges of actual substance for any candidate of any party. If you have dozens of pages of carefully documented charges against any/all Democrats, please have a DA call a grand jury whenever you would like. Political parties are not sports teams to me. Justice can do what it gotta do, whether it's convenient or not.
If someone doesn't want to get pulled up on racketeering charges (RICO), they maybe shouldn’t have racketeered. Or falsified business records, or mishandled documents to the tune of 31 charges under the Espionage Act, or incited an insurrection, the latter of which, I don't know about you, but which I personally watched on TV, live, for several hours, including coverage of the Trump rally that sent crowds marching over to the Capitol. We have heard the Georgia phone call that is part of the fourth indictment. We have seen pictures of classified documents piled in a random Mar-a-Lago bathroom. I am confident that these are not frivolous accusations.
District Attorney Fani Willis was careful to state that there should be a presumption of innocence (a standard American judicial doctrine). That said, I consider (as one example), this fourth indictment to be “charges of actual substance” because she delivered a 96-page document describing the racketeering (which, ironically, WAS ITSELF ELECTION INTERFERENCE):
u/code_archaeologist: The math on this is easy. For a jury to find a person guilty on a RICO charge in Georgia the prosecutor has to prove, beyond a reasonable doubt, that they engaged in two incidents that predicated the overarching conspiracy. The RICO charge lists 161 predicating incidents. So Fani Willis has 161 shots at each defendant, and only has to hit twice.
(I like to read r/politics.)
Fani Willis has 161 predicating incidents of conspiracy to work with. I am pretty confident that, while a defendant is innocent until proven guilty in the American justice system, these charges have some weight and deserve to be heard in court.
tl;dr if you don't want to campaign under a legal cloud, don't do crimes.
Also try not to publicly intimidate witnesses. And prosecutors. And judges.
If anyone reading this truly wondered if the substance or timing of these proceedings are warranted, sincerely, I hope laying it out like this helped.

If Attorney General Merrick Garland had done his job, said Jeremy Stahl, Donald Trump might already be serving a prison sentence. In early 2021, federal prosecutors reportedly began looking into Trump's role in the fake-elector scheme and the Jan. 6 attack on the U.S. Capitol. But Garland decided that the Department of Justice would focus its investigation only on the rioters, because he was worried that prosecuting a former president would have "unpredictable consequences." Garland also delayed bringing criminal charges against Trump for taking boxes of classified documents to Mar-a-Lago. The dithering attorney general finally felt compelled to act only after the House's Jan. 6 committee made public an embarrassing mountain of evidence about Trump's role in possible crimes. By the time special counsel Jack Smith obtained indictments on the documents and Jan. 6 cases more than two years after Trump left office, Trump was running for president again.
He and his legal team knew their best strategy was to delay, and rely on friendly federal judges and Supreme Court justices to block any trials until after the election. They were right, and "a dangerous criminal" escaped justice. "The law did not do enough to protect the country."

The plot thickens...
Or should I say sickens.
A staff member at former President Donald Trump's Mar-a-Lago estate has been charged in special counsel Jack Smith's investigation into Trump's handling of classified documents after leaving office.
Trump pleaded not guilty in June to 37 criminal counts related to his handling of classified materials, after prosecutors said he repeatedly refused to return hundreds of documents containing classified information ranging from U.S. nuclear secrets to the nation's defense capabilities.

Judge Aileen Cannon has indefinitely postponed former President Donald Trump’s classified documents trial in Florida, citing significant issues around classified evidence that would need to be worked out before the federal criminal case goes to a jury. In an order Tuesday, Cannon cancelled the May trial date and did not set a new date.

From the March 1, 2024 article:
MSNBC legal analyst and contributor Katie Phang Friday afternoon reports on the “BIG news out of Ft. Pierce.”
“The DOJ advises Judge Cannon that the ’60-day rule’ does NOT apply in Trump’s case as he has already been indicted & the case is already being litigated,” Phang writes. “So, no reason to delay taking him to trial, even with elections in November.”
Phang notes professor of law and her fellow MSNBC contributor Joyce Vance has been making that point.
“Read the policy for yourself,” Vance added Friday. “it doesn’t apply after a case is indicted, when the judge, not DOJ, is in charge of the schedule. Trump’s lawyers got it dead wrong.”
