The Genius of Poetry
Artist: Benedetto Gennari (Italian, 1633–1715)
Date: c. 1680-1685
Medium: Oil on canvas
Collection: The Royal Collection, United Kingdom
Description
The Bolognese artist Benedetto Gennari trained in the studio of his uncle, Giovanni Francesco Barbieri, known as Guercino. In 1672 Gennari travelled to Paris to seek the patronage of Louis XIV. He was favourably received and during his 16 months there is recorded as having painted 15 pictures. One of these, Diana and Endymion, was intended for the Duc de Richelieu, but was never delivered, and Gennari subsequently presented it to Charles II as an introductory gift, after arriving at court in September 1674.
During his 16 years in England, Gennari worked for both Charles II and James II, receiving a yearly stipend of £500. He kept a chronological list of his prodigious output, including 102 paintings during the reign of Charles II, 35 during the reign of James II. He painted a further 30 works for James II following the Glorious Revolution, having joined the court in exile at Saint-Germain-en-Laye in 1689.
Poetry, a female figure seated at full-length, right, wearing classical robes of yellow and blue, her right breast exposed; holding a pen in her right hand, an inscribed scroll in her left; books on the table, right; a bass viol on the floor.

Had this idea a while back about Choir trolls and what they’re like, mostly I think they’re very similar body-shape and culture wise to Classical trolls (basically sister tribes). They are also lead by a composer/director and live in a high-altitude cloud like city. Occasionally they invite Classical trolls over to join in concerts (they already have a pipe organ in their main concert hall so it doesn’t have to travel)
The main differences being their wings are more bird-like instead of bug/fairy-like, since choirs are typically compared to angels and as a nod to cherubs. Their hair isn’t kept in powdered wig styles but is still very curly and cloud-like. While Classical trolls can’t wear a lot of clothing due to it getting in the way of instruments, Choir trolls love to wear long robes of simple subdued colors (and gold), depending on the occasion. The extra fabric billows and drapes around them as they hover and can add to the haunting feel of a more solemn song or grandeur to an angelic song
what I listened to for inspo:

Gandalf as requested by @brethilach (thank youu)
You know not how difficult a task you've set me,,, I've always struggled so much with finding a way I like to draw Gandalf. I am mostly content with this. I was thinking he'd keep all sorts of bits and bobbles that he can wear on his person as he travels to remember the friends he's made. Saruman looks down on him for it, sees it as trashy and frivolous.

Jane Fleming, later Countess of Harrington
Artist: Sir Joshua Reynolds (British, 1723-1792)
Sitter: Jane Fleming, later Countess of Harrington (British, 1755 - 1824)
Date: c..1778-1779
Medium: Oil on canvas
Collection: The Huntington Library, Art Museum, and Botanical Gardens, San Marino, CA, United States

Contemporary audiences would have recognized Jane's outstretched hand and arm as a conventional theater gesture that actors assumed when about to speak. Reynolds also refers to contemporary fashion, depicting Jane's hair ornamented by the ostrich feathers that the Duchess of Devonshire had recently made popular.

Portrait of Stanislaus Augustus Poniatowski in Coronation Robes
Artist: Marcello Bacciarelli (Polish-Italian, 1731–1818)
Date: c. 1790
Medium: Oil paint on canvas
Collection: National Museum in Krakow, Poland
Stanisław August Poniatowski
Stanisław August [Stanislaus Augustus] Poniatowski was elected king of Poland in 1764. Especially at the beginning of his reign, he was neither very popular with the nobility nor as influential as his rich family, the Czartoryski Familia. Therefore, he needed a formal portrait emphasizing the special significance of his person as the king of Poland and strengthening the conviction about the lawfulness of his rule, actually assumed with the considerable support of Russia. Moreover, European courts, for example in Vienna and Versailles, were interested in possessing a portrait of the new Polish king. The newly elected monarch sought a talented portraitist, familiar with the latest trends in Western European art, who would be able to paint a splendid formal portrait. He wished to entrust this task to Marcello Bacciarelli, an Italian painter who had stayed at the court of Augustus III the Saxon in Warsaw for several years, leaving in the country a large number of excellent portraits of aristocrats. The king did not want to be portrayed in armor, but in the formal dress that he was wearing during the coronation ceremony: a coat lined with ermine fur, decorated with Polish eagles, a frock coat and trousers, with his hand rested against the baton of the military commander and royal regalia lying on the table beside him. Taking the king's instructions into consideration, Bacciarelli painted the portrait following the en gala pattern dating back to the time of the French absolute rulers, but in the more recent Rococo style. The king's pose was light, refined, elegant and graceful, which was in tune with the fashion of the day. The monarch noted down in his diary that the portrait caught the best likeness of him.
