I noticed that I've kind of started assigning names to specific drivers just because that's the vibe I get from them! as always this is entirely personal opinion. happy reading! mimi ₊˚❀.ೃ࿔*:･ it isn't all the drivers bc I don't write for the entire grid but if you wanted to see one driver in particular then pls send in a request and I'll see what I can do!

cl.16 ❀⋆. ࿐࿔  Ma belle (my beautiful or my lovely) Simple and sounds divine when it rolls off the tongue with the French accent! Charles can't remember when he first called you the name because it's all he ever calls you! He adores the way you smile when you hear it and knowing you like it just as much as he does makes him say it again and again and again. 

"Ma belle" is the first thing you hear as your eyes slowly blink open in the morning light. You smile happily with a hum as Charles' lips press against your cheek slowly,  "Good morning ma belle, how did you sleep hmm?" With a giggle you roll over to look at him properly,  "You know I always sleep better when you're home, handsome." You poke his nose gently and it scrunches up before he's pulling you into his arms, hating that you're not as close as possible to him,  "Well then ma belle, let's sleep a little longer..."

cs.55 ❀⋆. ࿐࿔  Princesa (princess) It's classic and sweet without being too cringy!  Carlos originally started calling you princesa as a joke but found that he actually quite liked it. You're his princess and so giving you that title only made sense! Carlos swears his heart melts when you pout up at him and he realises all over again he's more than happy to keep calling you his princess.

"Carlooooos!" You whined, "My feet hurt..." You pouted as you squatted down on the pavement, unable to take another step.  "Princesa..." Carlos sighed, "I told you those shoes would hurt your feet." You stared up at him, bottom lip jutting out,  "I can't walk anymore..." Carlos chuckled and rubbed his thumb over your bottom lip gently,  "Here, princesa," He guided you up and over to a nearby bench before kneeling in front of you. You sighed as his warm hands eased your shoes off of your feet,  "Better?" You nodded, "I'm going to get the car, it's just around the corner okay?" You smiled at him,  "Thank you."  "Of course princesa... And when we get home I'll run you a bath and give you a foot rub, okay?"  

ln.4 ❀⋆. ࿐࿔  Sunshine  Cute and different. Lando has many names for you that all depend on both of your moods and the situation; jellybean, pretty girl, babe, mamas, peach, but sunshine is his favourite. He tells you it's because you're his little piece of Monaco sunshine when he's far away from home and missing you. He draws his inspiration from lazy mornings spent with you in the bed of your shared Monaco apartment, the sun dappling soft patterns on your skin as his lips chase the sunlight.

"Hi sunshine..." You giggle as Lando's scruff tickles your bare shoulder, relishing in the way his lips trace a line of soft kisses across your back as the sunlight pours in through the floaty net curtains. You roll over and loop your arms around his neck, "Good morning gorgeous..." You nuzzle your nose into his and he presses a kiss to your cheek, humming happily as the sun warms the room. "What are your plans for the day?" He asks, desperately hoping that they revolve around him, you contemplate for a moment before rolling over on top of him, "Nothing at all!" Lando finds himself breathless as he gazes at you, the morning light highlighting the colour of your eyes, the glow of your skin and making your lips look so damn kissable. He knows that when he's far away from home, this is what he'll remember. His own slice of heaven and his very own sunshine.

op.81 ❀⋆. ࿐࿔  Angel  sweet and gives you butterflies! Is very nice to hear in all sorts of settings and moods... The first time he saw you, Oscar thought you looked like an angel and though it took him a while to pluck up the courage to call you angel for the first time, it's now the name he always uses for you! Even when you're not around he still refers to you as his angel (much to Lando's annoyance because he thinks you two are icky sometimes).

"Hey angel!" You gave a watery smile at your boyfriend through the call, hating that he was so far away, "have you been crying?" You nodded slowly, knowing how guilty Oscar felt leaving you behind. "I'm sorry angel... Hey," he said lowly, "I left one of my hoodies in your wardrobe, why don't you go grab it?" Following his instructions you grabbed the hoodie and cuddled into bed, holding it up to your nose and desperately trying to imagine he was there with you, "You look so cute angel..." You giggled, "Even when I'm all teary and snotty and sad?" "Especially then!" He beamed back at you, "Who you talking to Oscah?" You heard his teammate's voice drift through the phone, "Just talking to my angel." Oscar cooed, earning a groan from Lando that had you and Oscar bursting into giggles, "You're not even here in the same room and you're still being mushy!"

ls.2 ❀⋆. ࿐࿔  Baby Simple and understated Logan likes to keep things simple but sweet and so baby is his go-to name for you. He's worked out that it suits a variety of situations and moods whether you're feeling happy, down, excited, angry or... needy. 'Baby' is usually followed up with a quick smooch to the cheek or forehead. 

"Babyyyy?" Logan dragged out the last syllable, sitting next to you on the couch, "Babe? You can't stay mad at me forever!" He whined, flopping down onto the pillows.  "My last brownie Logan. The last one." You hmmphed, crossing your arms for emphasis,  "Baby I'm sorry! I didn't realise it was the last one..." You looked at Logan who now sat up next to you looking very dejected. You sighed,  "It's okay,"  "Thank you so much baby," he kissed your cheek, "I will never eat your brownies again no matter how many are there." You giggled as he gave a mock salute,  "Now, go put your shoes on baby, we're going to go and get more brownies!"

gr.63 ❀⋆. ࿐࿔  My love  Classic and to the point! It’s sweet without feeling like too much. With or without the ‘my’ it still feels intimate.George knew not long after you’d started dating there would never be any other name for you. He loves saying it even when you’re out and around other people, it’s not too much that it’s cringy or awkward but it lets people know just how important you are to him. Sometimes he’ll drop the ‘my’ and just call you love, but even that is enough to have your cheeks heating up and to make you bite your bottom lip through a smile. 

“My love?” You heard George call out as the door to your shared apartment opened, “In the kitchen!” You called back, hurrying around to make sure everything was ready for dinner. “Well aren’t you a sight for sore eyes?” You whirled around to see George standing in the doorway, leaning against the frame. You smiled fondly at him as he approached you, pulling you into his arms and settling his hands on your waist, “You look beautiful my love, is this the dress you bought with Lily the other day?” You nodded, looping your arms around his neck and leaning up to peck his lips, “It is, speaking of, is she here?” George nodded, “Yeah, they’re in the dining room.” You squealed with excitement and untangled yourself from George to run to Lily, after the squealing and hugging had died down, George poked his head out of the kitchen, “Do you want me to bring the plates in here love?” Alex laughed shaking is head at George, “You’re so whipped for her.” George nodded, not even phased at Alex’s teasing, “She’s my love, of course I am.”

Whether it’s tinged with that slight American accent from time to time or sounds completely British, Lewis loves the way your hand always searches for his or your head drops to his shoulder once he’s said it. Lewis isn’t one for big PDA but he will always use this name, especially if he wants to check in with you mid-event or at a large gathering. Using this name is just one of the many ways he takes care of you. 

“Darling,” You stopped mid-conversation with Toto and Susie as Lewis suddenly appeared behind you, his hand sliding down your arm before linking his fingers with yours and subtly pulling you to stand a little closer to him “are you feeling okay?” He knew you hated these big events, especially when he couldn’t stay by your side the whole time. The jovial atmosphere was palpable as the young couple engaged in a delightful evening of games. At present, the focus of their attention was directed towards the classic party game, twister. Emanating from their joyous expressions were rays of genuine amusement, as they exchanged playful glances. The objective was simple: they had to contort their bodies to place their limbs on specific colored dots on the twister mat. Amidst the cheerful chaos, their blissful harmony was evident.

A momentary pause ensued, as it was Oscar's turn to make his move. With a mischievous twinkle in his eye, he tentatively positioned his right hand on the crimson-colored circle, in a valiant attempt to maintain his balance.

However, much to his dismay, gravity had other plans in store. A wry smirk formed on his face as he succumbed to the forces of nature, toppling onto the game mat with a gentle thud. In this inadvertent spectacle, he inadvertently caught hold of your body, causing you to experience an unexpected descent as well. Astonished, both parties found themselves momentarily in a state of bewilderment. Yet, the perplexity swiftly transformed into unbridled amusement, as laughter escaped from your lips and you proclaimed victory.

Oscar and you rose from the floor, exchanging smiles that conveyed a shared sense of contentment. Subsequently, you made your way to the kitchen with the intention of brewing a comforting cup of tea for both yourself and Oscar. How Do F1 Cars Work?: Setup pt 2

Okay, so this is the second part to my post on setup. In that one I discussed the components that are altered as part of the setup and the basic setup types, in this one I will things more surrounding the circuits and driving styles around setups. Enjoy!

Track Specific Setup Requirements:

So, certain tracks need parts of the aspect to be certain ways. While these setups may still be within one of the basic types, most tracks have slight differences. It all depends on track style, the pavement type, and even elevation

Street Circuits - So, street circuits tend to be a lot slower, with complicated, twisty turns, tight corners, and just a general need for precision and strong handling (Monaco for example). For setup, teams usually go high downforce, soft suspension, less tire pressure, an open differential, and more rear brake bias. These all help maintain strong grip and take corners faster.

High-Speed Circuits - These circuits, often called classic, need a lot less precision and a lot more pace. They have very long straights and much less sharp corners (Monza for example). So here teams will go for low downforce, minimal drag, stiffer suspension, high tire pressure, locked differential, and more front brake bias.

Balanced Circuits - Simply, these are circuits that combine sharp corners and long straights, as well as slow areas and fast ones (Spa for example). They need a mixed set up, and going to far one way would make a car lose speed in certain areas of the track. this calls for balance across all elements.

Bumpy Circuits - The pavement type is actually also quite important for setup. Some circuits (like Interlagos) are well known for having rather bumpy pavement, so the cars must be prepared to handle that. This calls for usually an altered ride height, softer suspension, and usually a stronger tire pressure.

High Elevation Circuits - Circuits like these are up in thin air, which has a massive effect on the car (Mexico for example). This lower air density massively effects the tires, aerodynamics, engines, and cooling systems. To compensate teams will choose unique engine maps, lower tire pressure, maxing out downforce, and rider height is changed.

Driving Styles Effect on Setup:

It is more than just circuits, or weather, or elevation that effect the setup. The way drivers drives also has a major impact, and so teams try and tailor it to each driver. Some of them perform extremely well with one setup, then very poor with another. It's all about knowing the driver's style and preferences.

Aggressive Style (Max Verstappen) - With this style drivers tend to push the car harder and take corners sharper. Their cars tend to be set up to be much more sensitive, have a rear brake bias, a softer suspension, and open differential. They seem to prefer this because these types of setups allow for higher risk driving and taking corners particularly fast.

Smooth Style (Lando Norris) - These types of drivers lean toward a more consistent and calm type of style. They often prefer a more stiff/stable suspension, locked differential, a very balanced brake bias, and in general higher downforce. This helps them take corners the way they prefer, and keeps things steady and smooth. Technical drivers (like George Russell) also tend to prefer this setup.

Late Brakers (Lewis Hamilton) - These types of drivers take a very unique racing line and brake much later than other drivers do (helpful on overtakes and defending). They lean toward cars with setups with a rear biased brake balance, stable suspensions, and a balanced differential. These things help them keep the car steady after they brake so late in corners.

Strategic Style(Sergio Perez) - This style is categorized by a driver who lacks aggression but instead waits for the right moment. In this case they tend to prioritize tire management above all else, because they bide their time until the latter half of the race in the hopes that their opponent will burn out their tires. They opt for a setup with a softer suspension, and lower tire pressure. This all helps extend tire life.

So, in general, these are things to know about car setup, It is very complicated and a bout a thousand things can effect it, but when the setup is correct you can see some magical races. We actually saw this very recently, in Brazil. For this race the Alpine team clearly picked a fantastic setup, and showed us unbelievable results. Whatever they did, it matched the drivers styles well and the conditions they were racing in, which is what the perfect setup should do. All in all, setup matters. It can make or break any race.

but honestly i have been thinking about this and the sheer volume of crasyinsane material and lore we've accrued since last year because now i'm like how would you even begin constructing a top 3....... the possibilities are endless!!!

in terms of pre-october content that i might have missed before, i'd say most of this ask still holds (lando's biggest fan dot mp4 will NEVER lose its insanity to me. quintessential landoscar meta as far as i'm concerned) but now i also desperately need 2 shout out portrait painting challenge...... when it came out i was of course susceptible to the "you look beautiful" bantz though mostly just wrote it off as shipbait and since then i've looked back on this video multiple times and been like ?! why was oscar's deference to lando so insane actually.... i've alr mentioned this b4 but 1) oscar taking lando's intro in stride and immediately responding i am ready lando norris 2) oscar playfully acquiescing and letting lando use purple after he'd already chosen it 3) >like 5 seconds later. "you like purple don't you?" "uhhhh... i can do now" (who says that.) 4) another stunning display of lando Nooticing and fixating on oscar's hair swoop and last but not least 5) the way oscar FOLDS OVER and giggles helplessly when lando tells him i've just done you all pink ??? like. OKAY. cheers

looking @ recent content..... personally i find 814 so fascinating because while there are many Discrete Moments i can point out that make my brain explode i also feel like to some degree the reason we (? or maybe just me. again i apologize for the nonsensical drivel i create) love to make parallel gifsets of them is because they have such an understated dynamic built off many minute unspoken habits and wordless exchanges and essentially Patterns so there is less of like... a need for spontaneous intimacy.... if that makes sense. it's about the consistency of reciprocal comfort... iterations..... palisades palisades......... ok this is totally not related to the ask i've just been rotating it in my mind

finish the lyrics (oct 2023): a deeply obvious one but you can't Not include it 😩 i can't believe this came out a week after i answered that because seriously what da hell. @ OSCAR PIASTRI WHAT IS WRONG WITH YEWWWWWWWW. there are sooooo many things i could mention here that i feel have already been exhaustively expounded, the most obvious of course being the classic ojp Heart Eyes moment(s) (Many such cases......but also specifically the love story one) (like i'd argue silverstone was mostly responsible for getting 814 off the ground BUT this video was when their dynamic became the most "mainstream" and accessible to fandom as a whole... the amount of non-f1 fans i saw qrting reups of that clip!!!!) anyway but then you also get 👉 whatever the inside joke they have about old town road is. oscar saying "i reckon you'd be unreal in a karaoke bar in japan" which i still think is such a Line... just me ??? the way he verryryryyyy softly sings "yes" with lando at the end of their love story karaoke and the insane camera angle of him just out of focus. like. really in general there is just such a soft and lighthearted and Fun air to their dynamic in this video that makes me ;__; AND this is another prime moment of lando narrating oscar's firsts for him (singing on camera at mcl!!!) . ALSAURR lando tapping oscar on the bicep while sarcastically complimenting him. once again for two guys who never touch it compels me... actually i could go on about this video tbh like how oscar nearly falls off the couch giggling at lando playing the songs together and then it cuts to the next one and he's suddenly all flushed and his bangs have gotten all fucked up. he's so... they're so... let's move on.

splunk sim city challenge (nov 2023): many classic lines such as "i haven't even distracted you yet!" + oscar knowing his podium year and lando saying "you're a nerd!" + lando going ":) :o are you okay?" and so on... general setup of this challenge was crasy tbh. how it revolves around disrupting the other person's focus and the visual asymmetry of one being sat higher and having to lean over to distract them and how oscar just giggles goodnaturedly when lando sticks his cue cards in front of his face instead of getting annoyed and—SO ON. also forever obsessed with how oscar wordlessly lifts his eyebrows at lando at the end lol

that one sticker video (nov 2023): this video is insaaAAANEEEE to me. ANYONE ELSE??? first of all oscar and lando gingerly standing across each other on either side of the flower bed (while zak brown assumes a power stance directly on it lmfao) is already so visually overwhelming but then the way oscar glances up as he's removing the sticker from the cap, how you can seeeeee him calculating the move the entire time and being adorably pleased about it, @__@ the way lando grins at him afterward... (also crying at zb glancing at them and being equally charmed by their antics) wahhh TT__TT the vibes of this clip... immaculate

oscar thanking lando in their final post-race message (nov 2023): honestly the entire message in general but :__) one of my fav 814 moments OAT is oscar including lando in his thank you speech and lando not really expecting it and being genuinely touched by the gesture. lando is so endearingly fidgety the entire time honestly and the way he perks up a bit and wrings his hands together and playfully smiles at oscar when he mentions him... okayyy. anyway 2 me it's reminiscent of yes/no challenge "am i the funniest teammate you've ever had?" "(shyly) yeahhh... you're up there" (said in the same baby-ish voice as "so... lando?" UGH. UGHHHH) and how lando genuinely gets a bit awkwardly flustered by it like!!! god. wait ALSO i don't have the space for this so i'm throwing in end of season awards MMMM debatable + how gleefully lando threw oscar under the bus and in general just the incredible expression work going on for both of them during this exchange. si rapid fire questions (dec 2023): this video was crucial in determining that oscar... well. is obsessed with accommodating and mirroring lando. many things we already knew (aka listening to whatever music lando listens to; insert prema lap "maybe i should move to an english team because the music's better" moment here) but equally important is oscar "stealing" lando's dinner, how lando presses him on the back to the future question until oscar just changes his answer to his, and of course as you know per my blog title NO I'M GOING TO KEEP YOU HAPPY is in my eyes top 5 most insane things oscar piastri has ever said. likeee... lando showing a bit of jokey remorse over enforcing his rules (don't even get me started about lando and game/challenge rules...) but oscar being sooo determined 2 honor his teasing 😵‍💫😵‍💫😵‍💫 :melting_face: x100!!!

opening title behind the scenes (mar 2024): thinking about all the hilarious gifsets of this moment that i ate up deliciously 🧡🧡🧡 this was such a significant reminder of how 814 have just gotten like, exceedingly comfortable around each other & have learned 2 communicate via the most inscrutable expressions and noises and gestures that somehow suit Them perfectly x__x although i doubt they will ever really become ~effusive~ with each it's frankly even more devastating that they both help each other care less about maintaining appearances / how they often get so sucked into their interactions (see next bullet point) that everything else kind of just fades away in that instant.... all right ⚠️⚠️⚠️ maybe that's a bit of a stretch but we can pretend for the rpf lens!!! see also my tag spiel in this beautiful tuva gifset.

photo day antics (mar 2024): do you ever just...... what went on in bahrain. honestly. more from this weekend in a second but this video plus the accompanying photo encapsulate their dynamic so perfectly it makes me scream... how 814 are not only so annoyingly focused on each other all the time but also stand SOOO UNNECESSARILY CLOSE while every other teammate pairing is spaced out normally. yuki and checo glancing at them alksfdhdf 😭 truly so ridiculous that the poor photo person tried to get lando's attention and they pretended to comply for two seconds before oscar was lifting his foot to show lando his boot again. also why did it take oscar a million years to step away from lando and put a more appropriate amount of space between them...?! and even then it was barely that much........... accidental waist grab (mar 2024): this gave me psychic damage so bad i should be lobotomized. we've already spoken about this perhaps erm excessively but why did lando feel the need to stand JUST as close to him if not closer after they broke apart. there was truly no need...... honestly the way this ship will have us looking up driver cams and staring at esteban ocon's ass as he gets out his car just for a single glimpse of their parc fermé dynamic.

bahrain post-race interview antics (mar 2024): You already knowwwww. the sky sports "he follows me everywhere" moment is equally important but the f1tv interview giving us horrifically natural banter (juxtaposing this with their previous interview moments...), lando's dumb faux australian accent and oscar playing along as always, and most of all them HIJACKING THE INTERVIEW & commiserating on camera together ❓❗️ lichrally the grid photo all over again. often when i have emotions over an 814 moment i worry that i sound overly He_Only_Got_Two_Eyes.jpeg but truly sometimes two people are just objectively insane. plus land of piastri/lando piastri.....

is it just redundant to say Finish the Lyric at this point bc it's confirmed landoscar lore now. specifically the way that Lando keeps wriggling and leaning into Oscar's space is an underrated part but honestly it's the prime example of Oscar watching Lando's every move and Lando playing up to Oscar's attention every way possible. special mention for Lando's immense pride at Oscar singing for the first time ever in front of him.

honestly same for Garden Games - self-explanatory but the sheer squeakiness and giddiness when Lando was (secretly hoping) asking if Oscar would go between his legs while saying Oscaaahhh launched so many fic moments OH and Lando once again being so proud that Oscar did his first Like and Subscribe

Red Flag/Green Flag "I'm a Scorpio and lemme tell you all about it" and "maybe it is me" because Lando uhhhh truly let his flag fly in this one and Oscar had a blast. they do SO much better with challenges that are more freeform because Lando likes to act up and Oscar loves it.

Lie Detector test is SO FLIRTY. the fact that they keep trying to almost touch hands by awkwardly leaning the machine right in the middle when they don't have to. the way it feels like a first date. but the "you've got quite big arms" is the moment for me. and I mean yes, Oscar does have quite big arms.

Who Said What because of the sheer fondness but also "you like having fun huh?" "I do like having fun" - oh and the incredibly fond look Oscar gives Lando when Lando puts his hands in the air to celebrate at the end

Who's Most Likely To precisely because Oscar keeps trying to avoid showing that he already knows every fact about Lando but slips up a lot. my favorite underrated moment is when Lando tells the story about having to sneak back into his own house as a kid (he had told this during a Max stream? or Quadrant? video already) and babes we KNOW Oscar already knew about that one too. oh and let's not forget the Hair Touch. this was also classic bc Max watched it on stream and stood up for Oscar every time.

Iconic Toys - Lando marching Barbie over to Oscar is too fucking adorable, especially the fact that Oscar lets it happen and keeps talking but also began a habit Lando had for a while of stretching over to Oscar's chair for some reason

Build Their own Dream F1 Team - Mahk Wibba is obviously a great moment but my favorite is how Lando keeps butting in on Oscar's choices and Oscar is the dutiful husband saying yes dear and as always Lando getting impatient when Oscar takes too long (even though Lando takes lots of time to answer)

Theory Test - this little moment of "right? right" was so cute bc it was so early in knowing each other but Oscar is already reacting to Lando's 'I'm an absolute little shit' expressions and same goes for Oscar patiently walking Lando through one sentence so patiently and saying "there you go"

Fact or Phish - because we found out Oscar's heritage but also found out that Lando doesn't understand the difference between nationality and heritage - we also had Lando for the first time ever in any McLaren or honestly even Quadrant challenge history, remember something about someone else's past besides his own which honestly was legendary

Tory and Big Red are huge Ferrari fans, to the point of ignoring karate war to watch a race.

Brandon always watched with Tory, but he doesn't understand much of it, he really likes Alpine for reasons he doesn't know and Tory struggles to understand.

Robby likes Red Bull (mostly to annoy Tory and the whole Red Bull x Ferrari aesthetic)

Edwin and Kyler don't watch much, so they like the classic aka Mercedes

Kenny and Devon just simply love McLaren for no apparent reason

Kwon Jae-Sung is also a McLaren fan, specifically HUGE Norris fan, but has a major soft spot that he hides from everyone for Ferrari (maybe cause of a certain blondie? Who knows).

Yoon Do-Jin is also a fan, and loves Alonso, which here means he's an Aston Martin fan right now. He will root for whatever team Alonso is in.

68. Are there any fics that influenced you to write the way you do?

oh hundreds, certainly. probably thousands, given just how long i've been reading fic. i wouldn't say i look at fic and go 'oh i need to do this exact thing like that' but i would say a) im an amalgamation of everything i've ever touched/read/watched/experienced and b) that i do look at lots of my friends' stuff and go wow they r so good i hope i am that good some day. lots of people whose stuff i admire and want to emulate for lots of reasons!! im just not someone who picks apart their own writing like That? so. i did JUST tell dees @leclercenjoyer that i've always been like "god i hope my fics r even half as chewy and cash register noise inducing as yours" the other night. if you go to like, the earliest four pages of my bookmarks (on my f1 pseud specifically lol.) you'll find lots of fic i've probably parasitically bitten bits off of and absorbed into my own stuff. actually honestly all . pages of my bookmarks. i think i've probs nabbed quite a bit off of @freeuselandonorris @monacotrophywife @glasscushion et. al. (amongst Many Many Others) for SURE although to what degree i could not tell you. somebody should go read my old pre-f1 fic and report back on if there's any noticeable differences besides the glaring lack of porn. cuz if there is then i got it from somewhere 'round here. this is such a non-answer im so sorry i would love if i was self-aware enough as a writer to go oh yes THIS influenced me in this specific way etc etc. but i write more uh instinctually than intellectually

oh LOADS. well actually i've kinda been in a reading rut woooo depression. BUT drop by my bookmarks i think i just hit 450 f1 bookmarks the other day lol (tho i think there's a couple private bookmarks from when i was a lurker so it might not appear as 450 to outside eyes). wish u could sort history by most viewed... off the top of my head tho: @foggieststars 's off to the races series is obviously an insane classic. ao3 history says i've visited the first one 28 times. lol. oh my god also can i give an EXTREME rec for anon's take me all the way. Explaining F1 Language pt 1

I use a lot of jargon in my posts, so I hope this is informative.

DRS = Drag Reduction System. It is a flap on the rear wing that opens and closes to reduce drag, It is only available in DRS zones of a race track and if your car is within 1 second of the car in front of you.

Chicane = Series of sharp corners, usually in opposite directions (think 'S' shaped), used to slow cars down and encourage overtakes.

Dirty Air = Disrupted, rough, hot air that drivers get when they are behind another car. It makes the car go slower and heat up faster.

Clean Air = Fresh cool air that a car with no one in front gets. Less drag and helps keep car cool.

Halo = Titanium arch that crosses over drivers head, used for safety.

Pole Position = Starting the race in the first position

Pit Wall = A wall where engineers analyze data from sensors in car, watch race, and advise driver. Only a drivers specific race engineer is allowed to talk to them. Team principals are also there.

Points Position = 10th place and up

WDC = World Drivers Championship. The driver with the most points wins.

WCC = World Constructers Championship. the team with the most overall points wins

Straights = The non curved part of a race track, where basic speed is most important

Street Circuit = A race track built over city streets. Often very sharp corners and thin tracks. Examples include Monaco, Singapore, and Baku.

Classic Circuit = A built track that remains, often more typical of older track styles. Often have long straights, wide tracks, and rounded corners.

Undercut = A strat where a driver pits earlier than whoever they are racing against in order to use fresher tires to set a quick lap time and overtake their rival before they exit their own pit stop.

Overcut = Opposite of undercut, where a driver stays out longer than their rival in an attempt to gain time up on them. The goal is that when they pit they come out ahead of their rival due to the gap they create.

The Racing Line = The perfect line for a driver to follow that gets them around the circuit the fastest. Most drivers follow the same line one after the other. There is an outside line and inside line on corners.

Marbles = Small bits of rubber that come off of tires and accumulate off of the racing line. Can reduce grip if driven over.

Dirty Side = Part of track where marbles, dirt, and debris gathers

Clean Side = Usually the racing line, where there are no marbles, debris, or dirt.

Parc Fermé = Area where cars are placed after qualifying and the race. Teams are not allowed to make any changes to their car once they enter this area.

Flat Spot = Flat area on tires caused by aggressive braking. Cause vibrations which means they are to be avoided as much as possible.

Lock-up = When a driver brakes to hard, it causes one or more wheels to stop rotating. Often leads to tire damage or missing a corner.

Blistering = damage to the surface of the tire caused by excessive heat. The tire rubber heats up and peels off. Can lead to bad tire performance.

Graining = When small parts of rubber detach and and reattach to the tire, creating an uneven surface. This reduces grip and often occurs when tire temp is off.

Box = Term used by race engineers to call driver into pit

Push Lap = You'll hear 'push, push' a lot, which essentially means drive aggressive and at max speed.

Mode Push = Engineer tells driver to switch to higher engine mode

Lift and Coast = Fuel or tire saving technique where driver lifts off of throttle early before corner and coasts before braking.

Delta Time = Target lap time during a safety car to ensure they are within allowed speed but keeping up with strat

Oversteer = When the the rear of the car loses traction and slides out in corner, the driver has to correct with opposite steering input. This is oversteer. Overcorrecting can lead to a spin.

Understeer = When the front of the car loses grip, causing the car to continue straight instead of turning, a driver must adjust steering or braking to compensate. This is understeer.

Lifting the Throttle = Slightly reducing pressure to accelerator, often used during fuel management or tire conservation.

Bottoming = When a car's chassis or floor hits the track. Often causes sparks.

Power Unit = Combo of Internal Combustion Engine and Hybrid Energy Recovery Systems (simply, the engine though its more complex then that)

Stint = A period of racing between pit stops. For example a car will go on a 15 lap stint, then pit, then a 30 lap stint after.

Tyre Deg = short for Tyre degradation, when the wear makes the tire (and car) lose performance

Safety Car = Slow car out out to force drivers to slow down when there is debris or a crash on the track. Drivers are not allowed to overtake when the safety car is out.

Virtual Safety Car = System used when they do not want to deploy safety car because incident will be cleaned up quickly. Same rules as safety car.

Brake Bias = Distribution of barking force between front and rear wheels. Can be adjusted to help balance, especially in wet weather.

Quali= The day before a race, drivers aim to set a time and make their place on the lineup order. There is Q1, Q2, and Q3. Only top ten make it to Q3 and attempt for pole.

Purple Sector = Fastest sector time set by any driver during a session.

Track Evolution = The way a circuit's grip improves during a race weekend. Effected by rubber build-up, debris cleaning, temperature, weather, time, and surface type. Big part of strategy.

Out Lap = Lap immediately after leaving the pits during qualifying. Used to warm up tires.

In Lap = Lap where driver is heading for the pits

Flying Lap = a fast lap in qualifying when the driver is trying to set a time

Formation Lap = Lap right before race start where drivers can warm tires and help track evolve

Tear-Off = A thin plastic sheet on driver's helmet that can be peeled away mid race to get rid of dirt and debris. Drivers have several.

Scrubbed Tires = Tires that have been used briefly but still have lost of life. Can be an advantage because they are slightly worn.

Overtake = When a car gets by another car

Recovery Lap = Lap after an incident or pit stop where the driver focuses on getting back into race rhythm and warming tires.

Why, yes I do! In no order in particular, I love Kimi Räikkönen, Charles Leclerc, Fernando Alonso, Jenson Button, Mark Webber, Mika Häkkinen, Alex Albon, Ollie Bearman, Daniel Ricciardo, Oscar Piastri, Esteban Ocon, Giancarlo Fisichella, Esteban Gutiérrez, and Carlos Sainz Jr..

I haven’t watched any races from the classic era yet (By that, I mean the 50’s all the way up to the mid-90’s), so I can’t list any classic F1 drivers. There will be one out very soon though when I get around to it. 😉

Who is your least favourite driver?

Max V, Checo Pérez, Pierre Gasly, Felipe Massa, and Nelson Piquet are ones that spring to mind. Put simply, they’re all horrid people. Except Gasly (as far as I know), who I ultimately don’t care that much about.

Do you pull for drivers or do you like teams as well?

My heart will always go towards the drivers I love or drivers I want to see do well, no matter which team they drive for.

If you like teams which teams do you pull for?

We’re primarily a McLaren household, but we’re happy to support any team that happens to be at the top of the standings. The odd Ferrari. The odd Aston Martin. You know how it is.

How long have you been into F1?

Oooooh since around 2004-2005, I think. I don’t know the exact moment when it all started, but I vividly remember my interest in the sport reaching its peak when I watched the 2005 season live on the telly, specifically the Japanese GP when my boy Kimi Räikkönen started from dead last on the grid to overtaking Giancarlo Fisichella on the final lap to take 1st place. What a race that was! 😍😍😍 To this day, my love for F1 has never waned, even when there were some bad or tedious races here and there.

What got you into F1?

My parents! They introduced it to me when I was 4 or 5 years old.

Do you enjoy fic/rpf?

Uuuuhhhh…

I’d steal the Williams spreadsheet and make that team great again like it’s the 1990’s! I feel really bad for James Vowles and some of the drivers.

Are your friends and family into F1?

My parents, obviously! My sister has recently started watching it too. (She’s a huge Lando Norris fan and a McLaren supporter!) My grandparents on my dad’s side don’t watch it as much but they are known to watch it from time to time when nothing’s on. My grandpa on my mum’s side watches it on occasion but he would rather watch the rugby instead. 😂

My friends in real life don’t watch F1 sadly, so I can’t have any conversations about it. 😢 However, I have some lovely friends on Discord who watch and ramble on about F1. I love being around those people as I can talk freely and comfortably about things related to it with hardly any problems. I would really love to meet those people in real life too. 🥰🥰🥰

Both Lex Talionis and War Drums are some of the best fics I've ever read in my life, like they completely changed my perspective on sw and obikin, and it's honestly hard to remember after reading them, and your other fics, that "oh wait obikin *isn't* canon!?" Because your writing has made them canon to me!!! The way you wrote about the dark side, their characterization, the whole entire world building, etc is just so fascinating to me, and it's really difficult to go back to canon sw after that, because I love your interpretation specifically.

Also obviously I cannot undersell how much your F1 oneshot affected me, like seriously thank you for singlehandly changing the entire course of my life. That's what I love about your fics, you write about such an array of things with so much background research, so passionately, it's impossible to not get invested!
