So what are your Fate yuri rarepairs?
Thank you so much for asking!!! I treat fate women like immensely complicate barbie dolls i can roll around in my mind until they slot together in ways that make the deeply ill recovering catholic lesbian in me squeal so you may or may not notice some general themes, I’ll be including hcs and fic ideas in here because my brainrot is terrible rn so have fun with this:
Dobrynya Nikitich x Morgan Le Fay
Now this is largely due to the fact that i noticed similarities in them (white haired mothers that are more than they seem and definitely not who they seem with fucked up daughters that have pink hair and pent up rage) and admittedly I’m not in Tungsuka sanctuary so I don’t have a vantage point on Dobrynya’s personality like at all outside of adorable fanart but they seem like they’d be cute. They’re one of those couples that would largely only exist in au’s where Dobrynya runs the daycare that Morgan drops Baobhan at or something. And the entire story is just Baobhan being terrorized while Dobrynya and Morgan make out in the background.
Okita Souji x Nitocris
That moment when you (living vessel for your brother’s vengeance who immediately committed suicide upon fulfilling your goal due to perceiving the cold embrace of death as warmer than the cruel clutches of your fellow man) come across another girl (a hollow mockery of a human being born and bred to slaughter without a care who relates better to broken bones, sinew, and blood than she does to living beings and can kill her friends at a simple order)and link up (have intense homoerotic discussions about death dying and purpose) over tea and wine (cups of literal blood) and fuck nasty (memento memori style)
Olga Marie Animusphere x Ereshkigal
If you haven’t read Afterlife by nd7878 and you have any form of attachment to Olga or Ereshkigal or see the similarities between the two please read it, it’s amazing and I love it so much it fulfills my Olga Marie cravings very well. Anyways i think these two are cute, like super cute like insanely cute and I’d like to imagine Olga would bring out the more forward and irritable side of Ereshkigal and the two would clash in a way that’s still friendly. I dunno she’d make eresh more lively and make Olga feel more loved. I really love afterlife, please read it.
Jeanne D’ Arc x Barghest
I just think the idea of a woman who already sees herself as an offering, offering herself up to a worthy warrior who desperately wishes to stop destroying things she loves to be incredibly interesting. Especially because in my mind Jeanne would probably have little issue with letting Barghest eat her regularly as long as she recovers decently enough. They’re interesting i have fic ideas for them i think Jeanne would enjoy being devoured gruesomely. The knowledge of having a set place for your body to go rather than being burned and desecrated just to be tossed into the river and washed away. I am far too invested in Jeanne D’ Arc. A part of me thinks she would enjoy having something resembling a proper corpse since she was torched to ash and thrown into a river rather than properly being laid to rest. I have vivid images of their entire routine can you tell u have been plagued by yuri visions for far too long?
Edit: I made a fic for these two if you’re truly interested: https://archiveofourown.org/works/58314286
Baobhan Sith x Galatea
You know how popular girls in hs always have that one girl that isn’t popular or important or really much of anything to a majority of the student body that they don’t play about? Yeah that’s Galatea to her. They hit it off over sculpting because Baobhan has a general affinity for art that includes her love of fashion and eventually they become friends which is incredibly strange to Baobhan because she is deeply unused to being cared for and loved by anyone that isn’t her mother and even then the way she goes about it is very much not like her mother (it’s okay Morgan you tried sweetie). I just think it would be nice to see Galatea slowly help Baobhan build a healthy relationship with love, loving and being loved. They’d be cute. I also think Galatea would find having her blood sucked to be an interesting experience considering she probably finds the fact she has blood to be quite novel.
Merlin (Prototype) x Morgan Le Fay
With benefits. I don’t know what to call their relationship so they’re just with benefits. Morgan would just vent out her frustration on her while Merlin just takes it because why the hell not, being half-succubus has its perks. Additionally, she’d rely on Merlin to have a few moments of complete thoughtlessness and freedom from the stress and general fuckery of Faerie Britain by just allowing herself to fall for the effects of her beauty. Honestly it’s more so method of relaxation for Morgan then a genuine relationship but I think it’s interesting. They probably have insane conversations about the world that usually end in Morgan forcing her to shut up because she says something she doesn’t want to hear but isn’t untrue. Occasionally in moments of weakness Merlin will ask Morgan if she wants her to take her away to Avalon and leave this place for the faeries she hates so much, and Morgan will always refuse dispute herself.

'Next week comes the strangest pairing at the multiplex we've seen in years. We're talking, of course, about Greta Gerwig's Barbie and Christopher Nolan's Oppenheimer — together dubbed Barbenheimer — set to go toe-to-toe for box office dominance on 21 July. The former is a hot pink franchise comedy inspired by the iconic line of Mattel dolls, the latter a stylistically austere biopic about the invention of the atomic bomb. Such is the striking contrast at play, of course the internet (read: Twitter) was going to do what the internet does and meme the shit out of it: now, all anyone can talk about online is Barbenheimer, sucking attention away from other major summer releases like Mission: Impossible 7 and Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny.
Though this clash of cinematic titans might've been elevated to event prominence by the internet's collective love of ironic memedom, it's hardly the first example of diametrically opposed movies dropping on the same day. Fifteen years ago in the US, on 18 July 2008, cinemas were similarly split into two queues: the Batman enthusiasts on one side, clamouring to get into The Dark Knight and usher in a new superhero movie age; on the other, ABBA stans awaited a trip to the sunny isles of a fictional Greek island in Mamma Mia!. Had the internet grown beyond its cringey 9gag nascency by then, it might've been the original Barbenheimer. The Dark Mamma, if you will.
After all, there are huge parallels between the duelling duos. The Dark Knight was the dark and dreary, terminally serious Christopher Nolan movie. Mamma Mia!, the fun-loving “chick flick”, a jukebox musical for the gays and girlies to let their hair down with campy, sun-kissed escapism. Say you did the double bill back then: you could spend two-and-a-half hours with Christian Bale growling gravely under the cape and cowl, then it'd be time for cocktails on the beach with Amanda Seyfried and Pierce Brosnan. With Barbenheimer, it's another pitch-black Nolan flick where its male lead does a lot of broody staring into the middle distance, contemplating the deep evils now ushered unto the world, paired against Barbie, where men are Just Ken. For both Mamma Mia! and Barbie, it's hard to think of more colourful chasers to stave off Post-Nolan Depression.
The Dark Mamma, alas, never took off as Barbenheimer has. Indeed most people online, anecdotally, simply forgot that the two released on the same day, such was the broad surprise when viral tweets prompted by Barbenheimer brought new attention to the OG. (Here in the UK, they came out eleven days apart.) Little media coverage at the time pointed to the contrast, the most prominent article available on Google search being a Vulture piece from the week of release, the headline of which jokingly announced Mamma Mia! and The Dark Knight as battling “for the very soul of America.” Strikingly similar contrasts were zeroed in on: “Are you a happy person, or a sad one? Do you see the glass as half-full, or half-empty? Do you prefer your toast with strawberry jam, or do you like it sprinkled with shards of broken glass?” All ring true of Barbenheimer, too, only the question now isn't which, so much as which first. Shard sarnies, nevertheless, remain ill-advised.
Hollywood studios know exactly what they're doing with such stark counter-programming: the lack of demographic crossover suggests, on paper, that the movies won't eat into each other's profits, giving audiences a variety of options. In 2003, for example, X-2 was released into US cinemas on the same day as The Lizzie McGuire Movie, and in 2015, Mad Max: Fury Road roared onto screens simultaneous to Pitch Perfect 2. Barbenheimer is distinct in that we seldom get such a major clash of two big-budget summer blockbusters, nor a meme-propelled online movement spawning Etsy merch and Twitter stan rivalries. But that's the key thing, and the true movie-loving spirit of Barbenheimer: while we might joke about Nolan nuking Barbie's Malibu Dreamhouse, these aren't warring parties battling for audience supremacy. Much like The Dark Knight and Mamma Mia! — which went on to be the first and fifth-highest grossing movies of 2008 — early projections suggest that both Barbie and Oppenheimer will both do pretty well for themselves. And there's only one winner when that happens: the movies.'

do you have any ocean agere hcs? Specifically w Jane or Penny?
i will give u general ocean agere, then her + jane, then her + penny!! under the banner and read more :-3
Tumblr media
☆ ocean ☆
regresses from about 6-8
INSISTS she's super big and not tiny at all!!! it's not a shame thing, she just totally thinks she can do everything she can do while she's big
to help her feel better, sometimes her cg will pretend to struggle with something super simple so ocean can go "i can do that!" and do it for them
she likes stickers as rewards for a job well done. she cleaned her toys after playing with them? give her a sticker. she shared her toys with one of her regressor friends? give her a sticker. she helped cook? give. her. a. sticker.
she loves barbies!
she doesn't act out super complex storylines with her dolls and they never really connect, but she usually has some kind of underdog story in her doll games
cannot sit still. has to be doing something constantly
really likes coloring!!
her favorite show when regressed is my little pony friendship is magic. she sees herself in twilight a lot
☆ ocean + jane ☆
ocean's bossy nature does not stop when she's little
no matter what the game she's playing is, ocean always has to correct jane because "she's not playing right!" luckily, jane just goes along with it and lets ocean correct her
jane is a very good playmate for ocean's style of games
ocean prefers more relaxed games that require less physical activity and jane is te same way
jane's favorite part of playing dolls with ocean is dressing the dolls up and brushing their hair while ocean assigns them all personalities and roles
ocean's (platonic) love language is coloring pictures of jane's favorite characters and giving them to her. jane returns the favor by drawing (usually scribbles) things for her. ocean is always like "jeez you're such a baby this is something a baby would draw!!" but she loves it. she keeps all of them
jane is the sleepiest baby ever and ocean is the least sleepy baby ever, so when they're watching a show or movie, jane will fall asleep on ocean and ocean lets her, she enjoys the pressure (<- autism)
ocean also likes playing house with jane. ocean is always the mom, and jane is an animal
they bond over lalaloopsies! we're lalaloopsies is their favorite show to watch together
☆ ocean + penny ☆
the queens of parallel play
ocean prefers more relaxed activities and penny is very active! they'll go outside and ocean will color while penny runs around
sometimes, though, ocean does get a spark of energy and she joins penny, usually to play pretend
when they play pretend, ocean is always a damsel in distress princess and penny is a knight who's secretly a girl!!
penny is headstrong and not as accepting as jane of ocean's bossy behavior. this leads to them clashing a lot, but they always find a way to settle their differences– even if that sometimes means a cg has to step in because penny was chasing around ocean with a little bit of mud on her hand
ocean has super long hair, and penny loves to brush it while they watch a show or color
penny loves decorating anything ocean colors or draws with stickers!! ocean has to approve of where they go, though, since she doesn't want her masterpiece to be ruined
they can play dolls for hours. ocean and penny are good at coming up with plots and doll backstories on their own– put them together and they're unstoppable
they've stayed up so late on accident just acting out stories with their dolls. even then, they still aren't done with their plot and agree to pick up the story next time they have a playdate

hey i noticed that you're into doll collecting, do you have like a favorite toy brand or doll line?
hey there!
the short answer is that im really really bad at picking favorites. the longer answer is that there's stuff that i like and dislike about different lines!
most of the dolls i end up getting are either from MGA or mattel, mostly just because theyre the big names so theyre more easily accessible and they've kinda saturated the market, lol.
rainbow/shadow high is what got me back into collecting after the doll market hit a massive lull in 2015-ish, so i guess i'll start there! i really like how rainbow high takes a lot of inspiration from BJDs. this is the first thing i noticed about them, and i thought it was really unique for a playline doll. i've always wanted to collect BJDs, they're just so expensive. so i kind of treated rainbow high as a cheaper alternative. i think theyre so pretty, and i love how they've really started improving since series 3 was released. im not personally all that interested in their fashions for the most part, designer brands just aren't something im really into, but to me the base doll is more important because i can always make or buy new clothes for them. (...not that i've done that yet. adhd moment). i love the face sculpts (from the front) and i love the articulation and i love the shimmer and i love the inset eyes. i do think their faces look oddly squished from the sides, and i wish their torsos were longer, and i really hate how MGA has kept increasing their pricing but delivering either the same or even less amount of product/quality for the dolls. the most recent main line dolls have been $30 each and they don't even come with a second outfit. just some plastic accessories that are the exact same with each doll, just in a different color. i dont need five different doll laptops that all look the same. (also come on MGA, give us textured hair. you've done it in your other lines!!) still, i do think they're very unique and i hope it will make other companies start to branch out too
i honestly didn't really like lol omg at first, but they kind of grew on me once i heard someone say they reminded them of betty boop. i love their fashion and how ever the top it is, and i love how many different outfit pieces they give you. when you see it all laid out youd think that it was way too much and theres no way it would make a coherent outfit, but when you put it all together somehow none of it clashes. theyve got really great diversity as well (including hair texture!), and i love how each doll has it's own concept that they go hard on. overall i just think theyre really camp lol
i have a love-hate relationship with barbie. i really love a lot of their older dolls, especially the movie and princess dolls, but their newer stuff just isnt that great in my opinion. they're really done a good job with the diversity and i definitely dont want that to be taken away, but their quality has definitely declined over the years and i cant really see myself buying most modern barbies. i also kinda hate the current basic sculpt, it just seems so flat and plain to me. some of the collectors dolls are kind of cute, but they're way overpriced. even if you just look at the barbie movie dolls, the basic doll is $25 and all of the alternate outfit dolls are $40 despite not actually being any more detailed or coming with any more stuff than the basic one!
and of course, i love monster high. i do personally prefer gen 1 over gen 3, but i also think that gen 3 gets way more hate than it deserves, and a lot of them are really cute. it does suffer from a lot of the same issues as barbie as far as quality, but each doll at least comes with more pieces. but i love how creative they were able to get with some of the dolls, and i cant wait to see where gen 3 takes us!

Lightmello
This is my death note OTP and yes im aware its a crackship/rarepair whatever
So mello is my favorite character and i hate light (affectionate) which means i have to smash them together like barbie dolls
I've always thought it was weird that Mello ONLY kidnapped sayu. Yes she is the Fragile Daughter but i also think that he should have kidnapped Light too. Yes there are arguments on "how would he have gotten the chance" but theres no way Light never went outside ever at all. It could work
I like the way their personalities clash. Mello doesnt have boundaries when he sets himself to something (he literally blew himself up) meanwhile Light has to send his pawns out to be the risk takers. I think Light wouldn't know how to react at first when dealing with someone so abrasive as Mello
Near is rude but he can be talked to reasonably. Mello is "do it or else" and the or else is real. There are consequences
Tragically there are very few other people that ship this so i have a whole made up version of dn in my brain where mello doesnt die and they interact more (not in a shippy way even)

Review: Spirit Untamed "Miradero Festival Lucky and Spirit" doll and horse from Mattel
Recently, I've reviewed a few dolls from DreamWorks Animation's television series Spirit Riding Free, which ran from 2017 to 2020, about a 12-year old girl from the city named Fortuna "Lucky" Prescott, who adjusts to life on the frontier, and befriends a wild stallion who she calls Spirit.
In 2021, DreamWorks released a new film, called Spirit Untamed, which was essentially a reboot of the series. It was basically a modified and extended version of the series' first episode, "Lucky and the Unbreakable Spirit". It followed Lucky as she moved from the city to Miradero, meets and befriends Spirit, and becomes friends with two girls, Abigail and Pru. It also added new elements, such as a group of thieves that steals horses from Spirit's herd, which Lucky, Pru, and Abigail bring upon themselves to save.
Overall, it was a cute watch, and I'd probably rewatch it. The animation alone was great, Lucky and Spirit's bond was sweet, and Abigail had many funny lines like she did in the series, and she wasn't as airheaded as she was in the series, which I liked.
In 2020, prior to the release of Spirit Untamed, the toy company Mattel released several dolls based off the main characters in their outfits from the movie. They've since extended their line to have playsets, as well as the characters in many other outfits.
Today, I'm taking a look at the Miradero Festival Lucky and Spirit. My sister received it for her birthday the other day, and let me review it. It retails for $24.99, but it was purchased on sale for $13.99.
Note: this review mentions spoilers for Spirit Untamed. This set alone is a bit of a spoiler, but I digress. Proceed with caution.
Tumblr media
Here's the pair together. I think they look pretty cute together! Spirit seems to be a touch small in scale to Lucky (or maybe it's Lucky who's large compared to Spirit?), but not small enough to look weird, like many other Mattel fashion doll horses. (like how some Barbie dolls tower high over their tiny horses).
Tumblr media
Here's Lucky as she came out of the package. She's wearing a pink dress with purple ruffles trimming the bottom and top.
I think it's a decent rendition of the dress Lucky wears to the Miradero Festival at the end of the movie. In the movie, it had once belonged to her late mother, but her aunt tweaked it to fit Lucky. The doll is wearing a simplified version of the dress, but looking at the dress, I don't feel like it's lacking.
The ruffle on the top of the blouse has pale purple flowers that match the flowers on Spirit's saddle pad. The bottom ruffle has three thin wavy lines in the same light purple as the flowers. The waist is trimmed with a purple ribbon "belt". The skirt is a touch longer in the back than the front, which is shorter to show off her boots.
Lucky also comes wearing a pair of brown boots. I'll touch on those more in a moment.
Lucky has 7 points of articulation, with movement at her:
Head
Shoulders
Hips
Knees
Her articulation reminds me of the small Just Play Spirit Riding Free dolls, except Lucky feels much sturdier and more flexible than those dolls, which was a pleasant surprise.
Tumblr media
Here's a closeup of Lucky wearing her headband, which looks like a circlet of pink roses. It seems like an odd choice, but is still cute. In the movie, she had two flowers clipped into her hair on either side.
Lucky has tan skin, green eyes, and pinkish brown lips in a slight smirk. This particular doll's lips are printed a touch high. I'm not a huge fan of the line painted on the right corner of her mouth, it clashes with the molded intent.
Overall, I really like her face! I wasn't a fan of it at all from the stock photos I had seen of her, which made her smile seem a bit gremlin-like. I will say, her smile seems a touch wide. In the movie, Lucky's mouth was actually pretty small, she only had a wide smile like this once or twice. However, I'm giving it a pass, since I believe Mattel was going off of the promotional images, a lot of which showed her with a wide grin.
Lucky also has reddish brown hair with a center part that goes past her waist, with a slight curl to it. It's actually very soft, though quite unruly. I had to break out my spray bottle and comb to get it somewhat neat for photos. It's also incredibly thick! I haven't seen a Mattel fashion doll with such densely rooted hair in like a decade, so I was pleasantly surprised. In fact, she could probably stand to have a bit less hair!
Tumblr media
Here's a better look at Lucky's boots, which once belonged to her late mother. They're brown, with molded heart indents and flames, which are painted red. They slip off with a slit in the backs, and stay nice and snug on Lucky's boots. They bare a great resemblance to Lucky's boots in Spirit Untamed. Unfortunately, I was unable to say the same thing about Just Play's Spirit Riding Free dolls from 2017. The small Lucky dolls had plain black boots with no painted or molded flame pattern, so these are a great step up.
The flames are much more subtle than Lucky's boots in Spirit Riding Free, which had orange, red, and yellow flames, as well as shooting stars on the sides. At first glance, they just look like swirls.
Tumblr media
And here's Spirit! He has a (very long) rooted mane, and a molded forelock and tail. He's mostly unarticulated, but has articulation at his neck, which can look up, down, and a bit to the left and right.
I feel like he resembles Spirit from Spirit Riding Free more than Spirit from Spirit Untamed. I think it's his the combination of his "nice" eyebrows, forelock, and color that makes him resemble the series Spirit more than the movie Spirit. In the series, Spirit's quite orange, and has a shorter, neater forelock, and a generally pleasant expression. In the movie, Spirit's a more yellow buckskin color, with a longer forelock, and intense, thick eyebrows, paired with heavy... eyeliner?? Spirit needs to give me his makeup and eyebrow routine.
He has a slightly bendable clear clip attached to his back, which looks like the top of a doll stand. It's for Lucky to stay secure while sitting on him. It looks a bit unfortunate without Lucky sitting on him, just a stand protruding from his spine.
ETA 3/15/23: As it turns out, the clip IS removable! It slides in and out. Just took me two weeks to figure it out, haha.
I kind of wish it was removable, but I imagine kids would lose it quite easily, and then he'd have an unfortunate hole in his spine.
Tumblr media
I noticed Spirit had a molded symbol on his raised hoof. It looks to be a silhouette of Spirit and Lucky in a semi-circle. I've noticed this sane symbol on other Spirit Untamed merchandise, so I assume this is the new logo used for official Spirit merchandise and stuff, rather than the galloping horse that was used for Spirit: Stallion of the Cimarron and Spirit Riding Free merchandise.
Tumblr media
Here's Spirit wearing his wreath/necklace thing, and saddle pad? Blanket? I'm not sure.
The wreath looks like a variety of flowers, and matches Lucky's circlet. It has no closures, and is just molded in a circle, so it needs to be contorted a bit to fit over Spirit's ears. The blanket is purple, and has alternating pale purple and orangy pink flowers. It has an elastic strap that goes across his stomach to hold it in place, and a T-shaped hole to fit it over the doll stand waist clip.
Spoilers for Spirit Untamed below:
Towards the end of the movie, Lucky lets Spirit go back to his herd and be wild and free, so he didn't actually go to the Miradero Festival with her. Even if he did, I doubt he'd wear this. Maybe in the series, (in later seasons, he ended up a lot more chill, and occasionally let Lucky put a wreath on him) but in the movie, he's a lot more firm, standing his ground about not wearing tack or anything of the like.
It still makes for a super cute matching outfit with Lucky though, haha. I'm a sucker for matching rider/horse outfits and tack. Sorry, Spirit. You're just really cute in this, so you'll be wearing it.
Tumblr media
Here you can see the hole in the blanket. It lifted a bit here, but usually lays pretty flat.
Tumblr media
Here's Lucky sitting on him without his tack. Using the clip, she has a tendency to float a few centimeters above his back, rather than sitting flesh against it. Thankfully, her dress masks it, but I imagine it's much more noticeable on the Lucky dolls that have pants.
If you just plop her on him without adjusting her dress, it likes to ride all the way up to her hips (after all, you wouldn't typically ride a horse in a dress). It takes a bit of maneuvering, but her dress can actually lay quite nicely on Spirit's sides while she sits on him.
Tumblr media
Lastly, here's Lucky and Spirit with all of their outfit pieces on. They're really an adorable pair, and I may have to buy myself some of the Spirit Untamed dolls (the Picnic Friends Lucky and Spirit set is tempting...)!
They feel like decent quality, and while not perfect, bare a good enough resemblance to the movie characters they represent.
I can imagine many kids (and teens such as myself, as well as adults) having lots of fun with this pair, imagining new adventures for Lucky and Spirit to go on.
I definitely recommend this pair. I do believe they're worth full retail, but are even better on sale.

Creating Sango 2.0
WARNING: VERY LONG POST AHEAD!
I said I wouldn’t do it. I said I’d only have one version of Sango - her kimono version. But I had an extra pair of black pants and matching black shirt just like what my first Sango has under her kimono, so the base was there. Plus, the first time we see Sango, she’s wearing her slayer uniform. And most of the figures made of her depict her in that outfit. It’s iconic. It had to be done.
I asked several people on Etsy who make doll clothes if they could make Sango’s armor, but was always met with a resounding no due to difficulty. So I knew if I wanted this, I’d have to do it myself.
Talk about breaking out of my comfort zone! I’m one of those people who commissions clothes to be made and pays someone else to do a reroot because I just can’t do either of those things myself. But I was determined to try to make the armor. I already had a spare head, and it was already rerooted into the ponytail style because I was sure this could be pulled off somehow, and making the Hiraikotsu is the easiest weapon of anyone so far thanks to my husband’s Glow Forge, so I knew it had to be done.
The first thing I did was make the arm wraps that we see on her hands. I used the same method as I did the first time - after painting, I strung bias tape through the sleeves and then strung them back through once they wrapped around the doll’s hand.
So, the first step was the armor itself. I began watching YouTube videos and looking up tutorials on the best way to make doll armor. There are several methods out there from EVA cosplay foam to hot glue to layered fabric sewn with fluff inside it.
I finally settled on EVA foam. I’d never used it before, but it was highly recommended by other doll creators. So I did some research, got the thinnest option I could find (2mm I believe), and got to work making a template. Hubby was able to cut the pattern out on his Glow Forge, so yay for not having to worry about perfect line cutting! I designed the pattern in Photoshop, so that helped give it crisp, clean lines.
After the foam was cut, we used hubby’s heat gun to shape the foam to the doll’s body. That worked great! I’d sealed it with Mod Podge before (most cosplay people say to use another product, but considering this was meant for a doll and not a real cosplay event, and I had Mod Podge on hand, that’s what I used), so then it was time to paint.
Getting the right color was a challenge. Sango’s armor is often times depicted as being pink, but my figures all show it as more of a coral/salmon shade. In certain shots, I did see that shade. It looked more pink in the nighttime scenes. I tried a few shades of pink, and even experimented with mixing some together, but the shades just seemed off. It was more of a Barbie pink than a Sango pink. So then I bought some coral acrylic paint. It was a bit dark, so I added some white to the mix, and BOOM! I got the color I wanted! Or so I thought... I continued to second guess myself after looking at the doll’s eyeshadow, because it seems to kind of clash with the armor. I didn’t really want to repaint it because the doll had been rerooted already (this time around, I did the face painting first so I didn’t have to worry about messing up the hair like I did with the kimono version)... but then again, they’d be less noticeable then the armor.
I asked several people what they thought, and shared several source pictures, until someone commented that A) Sango’s name means “coral” and B) this picture (below) that I shared is an official character design which had not been adjusted for gradients and surrounding tones (these would affect the armor’s appearance). Plus, Inuyasha had two phases of animation - the first was the traditional one, and the second was digital. The former required colors to change. Seeing as I wanted to stay true to the original version, I found myself looking at this picture the most for reference:
Tumblr media
Even in this shot, the armor looks less pink than the kimono. So then the painting process began. To get the gray outlines of the armor, I just sketched out the design using a ruler and pencil and filled that in with gray. I then sealed the pieces with Mod Podge again.
Tumblr media
After all that, I began assembling the armor. I’m a big fan of not making anything permanent because you just never know. Five years from now, I could have better armor than I do now. But if it’s all glued together, I can’t take it apart and just replace it. I’d have to start over.
So my initial idea was to use Velcro to secure the padding. I also used it to secure the red straps to the black suit in places where the padding would cover it.
Well, at that point, I was really second-guessing the foam. The elbow and shoulder pads had lost their shape, and when trying to bend them over their respective parts of the doll, the paint began to crack. Probably because I used Mod Podge and not a higher end item. Then, when trying to position the padding properly, I had to remove the armor from the sticky side of the Velcro a few times, which caused the paint and sealer to come off entirely. But most concerning was that the shoulder pads were too small, seemingly smaller than they’d been before. Perhaps the heat gun and/or paint/sealer caused them to shrink. Same thing with the elbow pads, and I didn’t even look at the others because at this point I was thinking I should try a different method.
So many of my things have been made with bias tape and cardstock. So I thought, why not print my pattern out on cardstock, stack and glue several layers together to make it thicker, and then wrap it with bias tape fabric (it doesn’t fray like fat quarters)? That way, if I made a mistake, it would be an easy fix. Sure, the lines may not be quite as straight and clean as the EVA foam being cut with the Glow Forge (I don’t have a Cricut), but I can round out the edges with sandpaper or a nail file. So I got to work doing that, printing out various size options for each armor piece in draft form and holding them all up next to the doll to see which ones would fit the best. After making a decision, I put multiples of each on one file, printed it out on a piece of cardstock paper, and began cutting and gluing them all together.
Once the cardstock was dry, I sanded down any rough edges to make them as uniform as possible, then wrapped and glued bias tape (somehow I found some that was almost 4″ wide, but haven’t been able to find any more since) around the pieces. When that was done, I painted the fabric in the coral shade I’d chosen, then used the same method as I’d used with the foam for the gray edges. I was super happy with how it looked!
Please pardon my mess of a table in the progress photos LOL:
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
It was then time to apply the armor to the black pants and shirt. I used velcro with a sticky back to accomplish that, and it worked great. I used the thinnest velcro I could find to reduce bulk, and in this case, it was perfect. But then came the shoulder and elbow pads, plus all the red wraps that hold all the pieces in place. My velcro is circular, but it was wider than even the shoulder pads, which made it visible. That’s no good. Plus, I was using velcro to help hold all the red wraps in place as well, which created more bulk. So I had to rethink that.
I tried to sew snap buttons and hooks and eyes on the red bias tape wrap, but the bulk was still there and it was much more difficult than just sticking velcro in place. So then I tried something else - I cut the velcro into smaller pieces, then used one piece of it to stick the red bias tape to the shirt in the appropriate place, which allowed one velcro side to be facing up while the sticky part held the bias tape against the shirt. I put the opposite side of the velcro (also cut into a smaller shape) on the underside of the elbow/shoulder pads, then stuck it in place. And that did it! The bulk was gone... for the most part.
All the armor pieces were a great size, and I was able to secure them without permanently gluing them. But they weren’t conformed to the shape of the doll’s body. I’d noticed while gluing the layers together the pieces could be shaped pretty easily. But with the fabric on them, I couldn’t do that again. So I took a chance and used my husband’s heat gun on these armor pieces. I started with a small piece first in the event the method failed so it would be easy to remake. But alas, it worked perfectly! The heat gun allowed me to bend and shape the armor pieces against the doll’s body just like I did with the EVA foam, and the shape is still holding! Plus, shaping it around the various joints reduces the bulk. I was so happy this method worked! I have a feeling I’ll be using the heat gun quite a bit in the future!
Tumblr media
I then took a wider piece of red bias tape in the same shade and wrapped it around the waist to be the sash that holds her sword (it’s technically a wakizashi, which is a shorter/smaller katana). I didn’t tie it in a bow/knot because that made it too thick and it didn’t look right. So for now it stays like this!
Next up was the boots. There are several tall Barbie boots available, bust most of them are high heeled, and that’s not what Sango wears. Who can slay demons in heels? LOL I’d set aside a pair of Barbie boots a while back, but I wasn’t a big fan of them. They were one of the farmer sets, so they had the mud traction bottoms and a weird buckle/texture on the side:
Tumblr media
I thought once I painted them, they’d grow on me. But before I could do that, I found a post showcasing this fashion pack on Instagram, and my jaw dropped open. I knew I had to get this pack JUST for the boots:
Tumblr media
Absolute perfection! There are buckles on the sides, but when they arrived, I tried them on the doll and was able to put the buckles on the inside, not the outside, of the foot, so you can’t even notice them. And they slid right on the feet/legs over the pants! It was meant to be!
With the boots in place, it was time to begin shaping the knee pads. I’d already cut them out, but I couldn’t put them in place until I had the boots. So the boots got painted black, then I put the knee pads above them. I wanted them to simply wrap around the leg and secure with velcro in the back. I had to trim them down a bit since the wrap was a bit too long, but I was still stuck with how to fasten the ends without overlapping them, which would cause bulk. So I wound up taking a scrap piece of fabric and sticking it between the two ends, and the ends are held to that piece with velcro. It doesn’t look the cleanest, but it’s on the back side, so I can live with it!
Tumblr media
The red straps on the bottoms of the boots were next. That was surprisingly easier than I thought it would be - I just took some small strips of the same red bias tape I’d used for the armor, sewed the ends together with elastic, and slipped them right over the boots. DONE! The elastic is on the bottom and not visible, at least not to me.
Then I began with the wraps on the knee pads, which cover the top of the wrapped part and meet in front of the knee in a bow. I used embroidery floss to pull that off - I glued the floss to the tops of the knee pad wraps, then tied a bow in the front. When I was completely done, only then did I trim the ends of the bows in case they came undone and I still needed to retie them. I also covered them in fabric Mod Podge to give them the proper shape and keep them from becoming loose on their own.
Tumblr media
You’d think the armor would be done right about now, right? Nope. There was still a collar to make, a button/bead to put on it, and the yellow design.
First was the collar. I wasn’t sure how I was going to pull that off considering the shirt itself had no collar. And no way was I going to attempt to sew one. So then I looked at my black bias tape, which is the same size as the red I was using. I held it around the neck and formed the shape, and it didn’t look bad! So I then took one of my tiny paintbrushes and painted the edge red (the closest shade I could find to match the red bias tape), then wrapped it around the doll accordingly and secured it with velcro. The back piece is tucked under the red crisscross bias tape, so it will help keep the collar in place but is still hidden.
Tumblr media
The collar should technically be taller, but I’m afraid that will mess up the effect on the front of the shirt considering it’s supposed to be secured with that button. This is why I want nothing permanent - maybe I’ll think of something in the future for that, and it’ll be a simple fix. If not, hey, I’m still happy with it!
I wasn’t sure how to do the button that’s meant to hold the armor together, but I took a chance with a bead I’d found that looked close to the shape, and I think it turned out great!
Tumblr media
Then came the ultimate challenge... that yellow design. I can’t draw, and no way was I going to do so on that shirt. If I messed that up, there was no way to fix it. So I looked up pictures of it, thinking maybe there was a printable version of it for cosplay or something. Well, that proved insanely difficult - no two designs were alike. So I’d have to do what I did with Kagome’s books - use patterns taken from the show and make it myself.
Of course, different shots show the design differently. Sometimes it’s bigger than others. Then trying to find just a straight, forward-facing shot of it in its entirety, in decent quality, is no picnic. So finally I found a picture of the Toynami figure facing forward. I cropped the yellow design in Photoshop, created a large file, copied and pasted that design in there, and began using various tools to trace over the pattern. Why did I do that? Because if I’d just used the copy/pasted image, the quality would be terrible. It was so blurry it was a challenge even to trace. I had to refer to other pictures as I went just to make sure I had the shape right.
But finally I was finished. Then I did the same thing with it as I did for the armor - I printed it out in a variety of sizes and held it onto the doll to determine the best option. But how to put it on the outfit? I decided sticker paper would be the best option. And I actually found some clear sticker paper, so that would be perfect!
Or so I thought... unfortunately, because the sticker paper was clear, the printed design was way too dark once it was actually on the shirt. Putting it on a light color was fine, but a dark color? Nope. So I had to get a second batch of sticker paper, this time with a white background. I put a black box behind each design in Photoshop and printed it on the sticker paper. The black box allowed me to cut as close as I could to the design with an Xacto-knife, but didn’t require me to get so close that I cut something off. The final result was great! Not perfect, and closeup you can see the imperfections, but I’ll take it!
Tumblr media
For the last phase, it was time to put the head back on the body (I didn’t want to risk messing the hair up while I was trying to make the armor). I used an extra piece of the red bias tape for her hair wrap - coincidentally, it was a discarded attempt for one of the elbow pads that had snap buttons sewn on it. It fit around the ponytail perfectly!
At last the armor was finished! That was definitely the most complicated outfit I’d ever done. But I’m very proud of myself for doing it all by myself (except the black pants and shirt) from scratch. Hopefully I don’t get the idea to make more complicated pieces like this LOL!
Back of the armor:
Tumblr media
And that’s just the armor... there’s still her weapons and mask to do!
The Hiraikotsu was easy. I used the same method as before - hubby printed out Hiraikotsu, I sanded the black burnt edges down, painted it, and then wrapped it with bias tape I’d painted in the desired color. I then used the same bows as before, cut them down, painted them, and glued them to the bias tape. Then I made tassels out of embroidery floss and glued them onto the bows (one had a red bead attached). This time, however, no black strap is needed, since we only see that when Sango is wearing her kimono and walking with the weapon as opposed to carrying/wielding it. This also resulted in the bows being placed differently. With the black strap, the bead is on the bottom. With her armor, it’s on the top. But not having the black strap did make it a little easier.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
However, there was still the question of how the doll can hold the weapon. Sango holds Hiraikotsu at the bow under the beaded bow. But if I ever want it to lay flat, it wouldn’t be able to because it would be sticking out. Plus, getting the doll’s hand around the bias tape AND the bow, with a tassel in the way, definitely sounded difficult. So I had to think of something else.
Tumblr media
I settled for taking a spare piece of bias tape, painting it, and wrapping it around the bias tape already on Hiraikotsu, securing it behind it with velcro. Then, I pinched that piece to allow it to fit inside the doll’s hand. So now it looks like she’s holding the weapon, but the bow is still flat against it.
Tumblr media
If I had another bow, I’d probably add one to that spare piece. Maybe when more Christmas stuff comes out at Hobby Lobby, I’ll pick up some more.
Next was the sword. You wouldn’t believe how many swords I ordered trying to find the right one. First, it had to have a sheath. Second, it had to be the right size. And third, it couldn’t be so heavy that it would A) pull the waist sash down and not be supported by it, or B) be unable to be held by the doll. I ordered SO many swords... and a vast majority of them, despite being advertised as 1/6 scale, were way too big. One of them was actually taller than she is! Others were also a bit too long, but more than that, they were too heavy. I was thinking I may have to wind up making a sword somehow out of more cardboard or something.
Tumblr media
But then I remembered - I had Katana’s sword from DC Super Hero Girls. I’d ordered her specifically for her hands - to be given to Kagome LOL. I knew it would work because it was the right size and it wasn’t heavy - it was designed for those hands. But it didn’t have a sheath, and the guard is a rectangle instead of a circle. But then I did some digging and almost fell over when I found an actual Katana doll with a sword that had a sheath! Plus lots of other ninja weapons, and who can say no to that. It was a 2016 Comic Con exclusive doll, but I found one secondhand on eBay with all her accessories for a significantly cheaper price. So I grabbed that and was determined to make it work, even with the rectangular sword guard.
Tumblr media
I didn’t use that actual sword - it had a more realistic metal look to the blade, and the gold diamonds were painted. The first sword I had has a blade that looks more like the Inuyasha doll’s Tetsusaiga blade (and that’s the doll I made all these to go with), plus it was all a solid color on the top to allow for easier painting.
Sango’s sword doesn’t have the diamond pattern etching, but it’ll have to do. Once painted, you can’t really see it. I painted the handle of the sword, and used my Kotobukiya figure as reference for the purple pattern wrap around it. For the guard, my original plan was to make two identical sword pieces out of cardstock, put holes in the center, slide one over the blade and one over the handle, and sandwich the original guard between them. I couldn’t remove the original, and I didn’t want to try to Dremel/shape it because that probably would have resulted in the whole thing breaking. The sandwich method didn’t work, but when I slid the cardboard guard onto the blade and hooked it to the original guard, I thought it looked pretty good! At the right angle, you can’t even tell the rectangle is still there. VICTORY!
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
For the sheath, I painted it a solid red color to start, and considered attaching purple craft foam to the bottom and using two small heart hole punches for the design. The wrapping created too much bulk and I couldn’t get the shape right. So I decided to paint it by hand. Then I painted the same red color onto a blank spot on the white sticker paper I’d used before, cut out the hearts with the hole punches, and stuck them to the sword. YES!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
And that was the end of the sword!
Finally, the mask. I knew what I wanted to do with that - I have several Barbie masks from various fashion and accessory packs, and I’d tried one on the doll head, and it fit great! Since this doll has ears that actually stick out more than Barbie’s, the hooks hold it in place nicely.
Tumblr media
(Wow, that mask looks huge on that Barbie - it looks better on the anime head LOL)
So then it was time to paint it. I used the same gray as I used on the armor, and used a red that was as close to the armor’s red bias tape as possible for the strap. The really fun part was painting the little details... I’d printed out some pictures of the mask (the exhibition one since it was the highest quality image), but I couldn’t just stick that onto the mask with sticker paper because it jus didn’t fit or look right. So I did it all by hand... I sketched out my design with a pencil first (actually works great on acrylic paint, even if you use an eraser!), then used another one of my tiny brushes to go over the design in a darker gray. For the final touch, I cut out tiny flower shapes out of cardstock, painted them to match the mask, and then took a needle and thread and strung red thread through them to make the tassels of the mask, and give the flowers kind of a 3D effect as shown in the anime:
Tumblr media
My tassels may be a bit thin, but I didn’t want to string too much through and risk tearing the paper (it’s only one layer). I wasn’t even sure if it would work to be honest, but it did! Yay!!!
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
(The imperfections are much more noticeable in such a zoomed in photo lol)
And that is IT! That is the entire process of Sango the demon slayer in her armor. Definitely the most intense and challenging project I’ve done to date, but I’m very pleased with the overall result.

'July is witnessing an influx of big budget releases. From Bollywood’s Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani to Hollywood’s Mission Impossible: The Dead Reckoning Part One, Barbie and Oppenheimer, cinephiles are spoilt for choice.
You’ve probably heard of the massive box office clash between Barbie and Oppenheimer, but have you heard of Barbenheimer?
It’s a rapidly growing pop culture internet phenomenon where instead of pitting the two films against each other in online debates, people have turned it into a double feature, discussing the best order to watch the two films on the same day.
So far, there is a clear order, as dictated by internet culture led by several discussion threads — first watch Oppenheimer, a serious and intense story, and then Barbie, a light-hearted film to neutralise the heaviness of the former. But the debate around the ‘correctness’ rages on!
If only the world could agree on things this easily every day!
Barbie tells the story of the world famous eponymous doll who is expelled from Barbie Land and enters the real world with Ken on a journey of self-discovery. The fantasy comedy film is expected to be light, funny, frivolous and all-things-pink.
On the other hand, Oppenheimer is a biographical drama that chronicles the story behind the world’s first atom bomb and its creator Robert J Oppenheimer who invented it during World War 2.
Completely contrasting themes, right?
That’s what led to a memefest on social media with users comparing the two films, different in their genres and tonality. Over months, this has emerged into one united online phenomenon — Barbenheimer, where people are no longer pitting these vastly different films against each other and instead preparing themselves to watch both films on the same day in the best order possible.
What could be a Barbie Vs Oppenheimer fan war has instead brought fans of both worlds together, who will now end up watching a film other than the genre they prefer. In the end, it is a victory for cinema.
This meme culture has driven thousands of people to book their tickets in advance to not miss out on the Barbenheimer craze. It’s a moment in history where two distinctly different films with an equally strong starcast have received an equal amount of love from fans.
After years of watching franchises take over theatres, the Barbenheimer meme culture comes as a breath of fresh air for movie lovers. It gives them an opportunity to take a break from the Marvel-fication of cinema with fans feeling pressured to keep up with every series or movie release in order to stay updated with their favourite cinematic universe. It’s a constant and tiring pursuit of content that aims to serve itself more than its fans.
Oppenheimer is the first script Christopher Nolan wrote in first person to tell the story from Robert J Oppenheimer’s perspective. Despite its serious and dark tone, people are excited to see Nolan back in action with a stellar star cast of Cillian Murphy (who plays the titular role), Matt Damon, Casey Affleck, Emily Blunt, Robert Downey Jr, Florence Pugh, Rami Malek and Kenneth Branagh.
The marketing campaign for Oppenheimer has been fairly simple — regular press interviews with Cillian Murphy and a few with Robert Downey Jr. The biggest splash was perhaps a picture of John Krasinski with the film’s cast that started trending on social media.
However, Barbie’s theme and marketing strategy is in sharp contrast with Oppenheimer.
As compared to Oppenheimer’s minimalistic campaign, Barbie went all out. Microsoft and Xbox collaborated for a pink Dreamhouse style gaming console, Hot Wheels launched a pink Corvette Stingray and AirBnB created a life-size pink mansion to celebrate the movie. For promotional tours, Margot Robbie wore several outfits inspired by old and new Barbie dolls.
Mattel clearly went all out to reclaim the colour pink and crown Barbie as its sole queen.
They took something as simple and frivolous as a kids’ doll and turned it into a point of curiosity. Hence, despite having a ton of promotional material, we still don’t know what Barbie is actually about.
All we know is that it stars Margot Robbie, Ryan Gosling, Will Ferell, Kate McKinnon and is directed by Greta Gerwig — the same person who directed Little Women. That’s enough to tell us Barbie won’t be a run-of-the-mill romantic comedy. It’ll probably address something deeper, given Gerwig’s talent.
Memes usually follow a film, driving curiosity AFTER its release. In the case of Barbenheimer, it’s driving people to theatres in hordes, a beautiful sight to behold after ages and a reminder of the power of internet culture in controlling the film economy.
I don’t know about you, but I’m definitely a Barbenheimer girl!'

Thoughts on Harry’s outfit today?
Oh this outfit is exactly the paper doll idea I mentioned in my last essay about his fits!! I love them just slapping pieces together that you wouldn’t automatically go YES these pair amazingly or they don’t quite go well together. I am also a huge fan advocate for clashing patterns, who said you can only wear one pattern a time, absolutely not throw the kitchen sink at it. Clothes are fun, wear all the colour and pattern you want!! (I remember growing up I had this Barbie magnet set that was just her body and lots of outfit pieces you could mix and match on her and it was my favourite thing ever, I used to have Barbie dressed outrageously.) I imagine it’s like playing dress up with Harry and wouldn’t that just be the most fun? I’m also, admittedly, a big fan of the pattern colours being switched for each trouser leg it makes me think of the emo phase I’m sure we all had at one point running around wearing jeans that one leg were red and the other black, or I had ones that one leg was checked and the other leg plain black 💀 although the colours used in these trousers does nothing for me, I like the richer orange-yellow shade but that yellow-green sort of chartreuse I do not like, it goes for my eyes :(
all in all not 100% on this one but the boy looks good in a cowboy hat and not everyone can say that 🤍

I thought I’d post some pictures of my newest RH dolls and share a couple of thoughts.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
First of all is you can buy them from Walmart, both Sheryl and Daphne were around 21-22. I got Daria and Georgia from Best Buy at regular price. Which at this point is beginning to be too much. Especially with the quality slipping. You can see clearly that there were some issues with Georgia’s rooting. I thought it was a one off but more people have been posting about it on instagram and apparently MGA says this is intended. Okay, but not with my money. Also my WB Sunny was around 25.00 from WM so I’m glad I waited.
I can safely say I currently have a huge dislike of Daria’s hairstyle and imo the colors clash with her pieces. And that brings me to Georgia her skin tone is almost a fantasy tone and it maybe the hair color as well. I do like her hair a lot though. I actually love everything about Daphne and she was not on my list to get her at all. My favorite outfits from this series has to go to Sheryl and Georgia.
On to Ms. Jett Dawson, I’ve had her for a while and I was really not feeling her, especially at that price. I don’t like the dress regardless of how well it’s constructed. I’m not a fan of the hair either. Her face is stunning though and I like most of her outfit pieces maybe not all together. I honestly got her because of the new articulation. I was hoping that all “collector” dolls would come with the new articulation (frankly every release after) but from my understanding they don’t. Someone shared pictures of Vanessa Tempo (sorry) on Instagram and they had huge bald spots and regular articulation. I’m kinda mad that paid full price for her :(. I have to have Robin Sterling from Slumber Party but after that I think I’m taking a break from RH for a while.
I bought a bunch of Barbie Extras and Signature dolls on clearance for some clothes and I’ll be sharing those in another post. I want to do some dress ups I haven’t done that in a long time.
