Mook Minrayaporn Somnongkham - Registrar Mook is an event planner and organiser at Bhorncheewaa Entertainment.

Although the official board has only been announced very recently, the association released its first statement on the objectives of the establishment of TOSAA in March 2024. Essentially, the main purpose is to gather Thai actors in any mediums such as feature films, documentaries, dramas or series with a common goal of creating professional standards for actors, facilitate an environment for exchange and development and be one of the driving forces that pushes Thai industry to the global standard.

Throughout the year of 2024, TOSAA hosted their series Monologue talks and roundtables between actors, similar to the format of Variety's Actors on Actors and The Hollywood Reporter's Roundtable.

Nat and Nonkul are actually members of Film Subcommittee for Thailand Creative Culture Agency which is an agency established by Thailand's National Soft Power Strategy Committee. (Bonus fun fact: Actor Tong Thanayut Thakoonauttaya, more known to QL fans for his roles in Kinnporsche, Man Suang, Tharntype... is actually a member of the Series Subcommittee of THACCA)

Here's an excerpt from a Deadline article detailing some of THACCA's plans.

Inspired by organizations such as Korea’s KOCCA, Taiwan’s TAICCA and France’s CNC, THACCA is described as an organization that “oversees strategic collaboration between the government and private sectors to create income and opportunities for the Thai people through soft power by using its cultural industries as a powerful tool.” It also oversees Thai creative industries including music, publishing, sports, games, design, fashion and food.  While total budget was not mentioned, THACCA is spending spending some $6.7M on Thai films, series, docs and animation in 2024-2025, investing in around 30-40 projects, and also plans to launch a new international film festival and T-Expo showcase for Thai content. A further $5.25M is being spent on reskilling the workforce. Longer term, there are plans to launch a Thailand Film Council, invest more in local productions and international co-productions, as well as promote Thai content overseas. Thailand’s government is also planning to establish Media Business Economic Zones, with Pattaya mentioned as a location, and expand cinema circuits in rural areas. 

So at the same time that THACCA was being worked on for its pilot programmes in 2024, Nat and Nonkul were already gathering their actors friends to come together and plan the establishment of TOSAA (Thai On-Screen Actors Association).

I did wonder if this association would be similar to the American Screen Actors Guild. And I found in this article with Meng Chaiwat Chartsuriyakiat that the 2023 SAG-AFTRA strike for fair wages was indeed one of the reasons that sparked the actors to come together to push for on-screen standards for Thai media.

Just finished Lost for the 9000th time and sobbed just as hard as I did the first time (I also watched the last like 6 episodes back to back and that was NOT a good idea). It really is the most perfect, beautiful show ever made. Goddamn. I am in shambles but still absolutely in awe of how incredible that was (even though, like I said, I’ve seen it more times than I can count). Greatest show of all time, no contest.

Sorry for such a ridiculous question, but I think you’re incredibly knowledgeable, and would like to heard your opinion. Do you think Turkish people are considered POC?

when i first read your question i laughed because i was wondering if bait had gotten more elaborate but i feel like it was quite cynical of me lol. and just fyi I'm not incredibly knowledgeable either!

the long and the short of it to me, as a random person from the periphery of your life, is that for racism to exist, there is a process of racialization that happens first, and it creates social categories and hierarchies based on so-called "races". that's how the broad category of "person/people of colour" emerged as a counterpart to whiteness. by considering whether specific social groups as a whole or the individuals that compose them are from one category or the other, is focusing more on identity/identification than on the dynamics of domination that whiteness embodies.

now that we've set the foundation to think of race as a social and not a biological reality, rife with relations of domination that composes the architecture of society, i'd say that questioning whether turkish people (or others) are "people of colour" has to start from how we think about racial categories as a whole and how they are informed by power relations within socio-political structures. from that pov, i'd never consider turkish people white as far as I'm concerned. now i know that there may be turkish people, similarly to some north African people (as a reminder that the latter group is my people lol), who think they have transcended the boundaries of racialised social groups and now believe themselves to be white*. at the end of the day i always feel like if the world was titanic and it was whites first instead of women and children, turkish and north African people would stay on the damn boat and sink into the pits of the ocean because the ones who uphold whiteness as power and benefit from whiteness would not welcome the "pale" skinned ones as white. and again it's in relation to a structure and not to individuals. individuals may believe this or that but when you look at how power dynamics interact with racialised groups as a whole, the answer is clear.

(*) to be totally transparent i've noticed this identification with whiteness specifically from north africans who are anti-black first and foremost, and refuse to consider themselves African. like they 100% buy into the myth that imazighen are descended from European settlers which you know... honestly double L idk how to even describe this frame as anything but pathetic and stinky lol. this identification with whiteness is also a strategy to distance the self from "the uncivilized", which shows the extent of how colonisation and coloniality affect the mind as well. wish fanon was mandatory reading for everyone <3

Dominic St. Clair, known in the gambling scene as "The Count," is a legend in the world of poker. He possesses a sharp mind and his approach to poker is deeply analytical. He constantly evaluates probabilities and reads his opponents with precision. Dominic's reputation precedes him and make him a feared opponent at any poker table simply by his presence.

Even in the most intense situations, "The Count" remains calm and focused, without letting his emotions take over. Although he's not afraid to take calculated risks, each of his moves is carefully planned and executed to maximize his chances of success.

His skills regularly crash the cash registers of casinos, making him an unwelcome guest and his life not entirely safe; there are said to have been attempts to eliminate him. Dominic is one of the wealthiest men around, and evidently, he has the means to keep certain individuals at bay. Unobtrusively, security always surrounds him.

Although he is a wealthy man, it is unclear whether "The Count" has acquired his wealth solely through poker or if there are other secret sources of his fortune. He is a master at shielding his private life and concealing his true self from the world.

Beyond his unpredictable appearances in casinos, Dominic lives secluded from the public eye. Whether he has friends or family is unknown. Speculations and rumors about his past and living circumstances are widespread, but he doesn't let anyone peek into his cards.

What prompts Dominic to suddenly step into the public eye and sign up for a Bachelorette show, stirring up rumors? Is he looking to redefine his image or bring a touch of normality into his life? Does he feel lonely in his reclusive lifestyle and yearn for human connection or a romantic relationship? Could he be seeking an authentic relationship untainted by his wealth or reputation as a gambling genius?

Might this show, of all things, offer him a chance to meet someone who appreciates him for his true self, beyond his secrets and his reputation? Dominic isn't the type to follow conventional paths; he's unpredictable, so let the games begin ...
