Just found your art, and I wanna say: Your reports artworks are some of the best illustrated skyscapes I've ever seen! You really capture the diversity of clouds (and their associated moods) in a way I've never seen from other artists. Your use of tones and colours is so vibrant and real that it's honestly uncovering old memories. Just a question, are there any artists that you take particular inspiration from?
Hi!
First of all thank you so much for your very kind words, I really appreciate them. It's been a real journey in many more ways than I had expected (scientifically speaking, I think I probably make a lot of mistakes, but luckily, I'm not a science communicator).
It makes me very happy that the reports project resonates with you.
In terms of inspiration for the reports specifically, there are a lot of artists that I really enjoy:
Isaac Levitan and his grey skies specifically:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The Vladimirka Road, 1892, and Over Eternal Peace, 1894
James Dickson Innes, incredible colours and shapes:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Deep Twilight, Pyrenees, 1912-1913, Ranunculus, 1909-1912
Félix Vallotton's work is deeply touching to me:
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Clair de lune, c. 1895, Le Rayon, 1909, Le Vent, 1910, Coucher de soleil à Grasse, 1918
John Constable, of course:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Rainstorm over the sea, c. 1824-1828, Cloud Study, 1821
I could name many many more, but I think this is a good start. I find it fascinating how artists always have a different approach to painting the sky. I mean, that's pretty self-evident but also very very cool.
Thank you again for your wonderful message! Hope you have a fantastic day.

US people who care about railroads should definitely read the Corridor ID Selections. While it was published a little over a year ago, the program is designed to fund shovel-ready programs and dedicate money to assessing the viability of corridors which would be either new or upgraded, and they just posted a massive update to the map including new HSR viability studies.

Silverfalls Court Chapter 16
Title: Silverfalls Court
Author: Jay Grayson
Word Count: 50K
Genres: drama, suspense, who-done-it, LGBT+
Available on: Kobo and my website
Synopsis: A young girl, lost in the bliss of her first relationship, will do anything in the pursuit of what she believes is true love—even sneaking out of her house in the dead of night. Unfortunately, she is met by someone she didn’t quite expect. Her fight or flight instincts kick in but she in no match for the killer in the woods.
And her death won’t be the only one.
The once peaceful and quaint neighborhood of Silverfalls Court is thrown into chaos and upheaval when bodies keep showing up in the woods. When it becomes apparent that the murderer must be one of them, suspicions grow thick and trust is shattered.
Some, like Lisa-Marie Castel, want to play detective and solve the case on their own while others, like Dominique Pulmer, want to keep their heads down and wait for things to return to normal. Some might even wish to capitalize on the bizarre nature of the story while those who have been personally affected are left to pick up the broken pieces of their lives amidst the chaos.
Full chapter 16 under the cut:
16. Fool in the Town Square
Shocked silence between bouts of confused muttering filled the cul-de-sac as everyone began to group together. A loose mob formed in front of Dominique’s door though no one aside Lisa-Marie knew why. Mabel and Ilene kept their distance, however, as Mabel had a bad feeling about what was to come.
Mabel sent a look backward at Ilene who tightened her grip on the woman’s wheelchair. She, too, was nervous but her curiosity kept her within listening range.
Polly also hung back (though not as much as Mabel and Ilene) and she held onto Claire and Miguel with each of her hands. Serena stood beside her and watched with a frown. Jumin inched closer to his friend as Lisa-Marie continued to bang on the door and scream. He shot Serena a quick look, hoping to convey his nerves through it.
The remaining Jungs kept closer together and Suri flinched every time Lisa-Marie’s fist came down against the door.
Carson and Diana drifted closer toward each other, sharing quiet murmurs of conversation only they were privy to. They stayed away from the heart of the mob but mainly just so they could get a better look at what was happening.
Karowitz joined the Dicksons as though he were part of their household. He and Gary shared a few words while Kimberly held onto Hunter for dear life.
The Burns formed a vanguard behind Lisa-Marie—Hailey kept a hand on Madison while Jason’s eyes were glued to his neighbor’s back.
No one really had an idea of what was going on. Those in the first cul-de-sac could guess that something had gone wrong since there were police cars outside of the Castel’s house but, clearly, Lisa-Marie wasn’t dead or in trouble. The neighbors from the second cul-de-sac were even more confused as they only knew their presence was demanded outside.
Now they all paid witness together.
“Get out NOW!” Lisa-Marie screamed and threw both of her fists against Dom’s door.
“Why is everyone on my lawn?!” Dom’s voice finally sounded from the other side.
“You KNOW what you did! Get OUT!”
Everyone flinched and grew even more nervous about the circumstances. Hailey swallowed a lump in her throat and then tried her hand at convincing the man to join them. “Mr. Pulmer, we don’t know what happened! Maybe you can come out and tell us?!”
“Dom!” Carson yelled next, “Me and Diana are out here too! It’s fine!”
Diana glanced over at him and felt her stomach twist. She wasn’t sure she believed him though she knew he wasn’t lying on purpose. He probably had no idea how much danger Dom could potentially be in if the neighborhood collectively turned against him.
She bit down on her lip and silently hoped he’d just stay inside.
But, the door knob turned, and Dom slowly emerged. He glanced around with narrowed eyes and a defensive pose as he realized that everyone was at his doorstep. Everyone except Victoria at least.
“What is going on…?” he asked anxiously.
Lisa-Marie pointed her finger in his face. “You know. You KNOW!” Before he could open his mouth to protest, she shouted, “Brandon’s fucking DEAD!”
Shock momentarily paralyzed the crowd before all eyes were on Dom again. It was hard to tell who was immediately on Lisa-Marie’s side in her assumption he’d done it and who was bewildered by the insinuation. Most would automatically know that Dom was innocent—or at least Diana hoped that was the case.
“…You think I killed Brandon?” Dom’s mouth gaped as he fought for something to trace that accusation back to. Other than an easy counter-accuse, he couldn’t see how she’d think that.
“You were the last one with him!” she shouted and threw her hands out. “No one else has been around him but you!”
“Except you,” he rebutted calmly.
Her eyes bulged and she lunged toward him. “How DARE you!” She dug her fingers into his shoulders at first and then started to encroach around his neck.
“Lisa-Marie!” Hailey and her husband both yelled but Hailey was the one who pulled Lisa-Marie off of Dom. “Calm down! Tell us what happened.”
She didn’t tear her gaze away from Dom but she did stop her assault. “Yesterday, well, last night actually…I came home and I spotted Dominique on his way to his house. Brandon told me he came over to ask him questions. Questions about the murders…and now Brandon is DEAD!”
“Dom wouldn’t do that,” Diana countered and braced for the heated stares she knew would come her way. Surprisingly, no one looked at her for longer than a second.
“She’s right,” Jason agreed. He was one of the last people Diana expected backup from. The Burns and Castels always seemed to have something of a symbiotic relationship. To hear the patriarch of the Burns family turn on Lisa-Marie was quite the surprise. “It makes no sense for someone to question another about the murders only to turn around and kill them. If Brandon was murdered like everyone else, it would have had to have been someone else.”
Lisa-Marie glared at him but said nothing. Mostly, because Dom beat her to the punch.
“You’re leaving out some vital information, Lisa-Marie,” he said and took a step to the side. It wouldn’t keep her from lunging at him again but he’d at least have more room to evade if she tried. With everyone’s attention back on him, he continued, “When I talked to Brandon last night, he confessed to me what happened with Lamar.”
“Shut it,” Lisa-Marie growled—her expression turning angry and red, “That’s a lie…”
“Aren’t the police at your house right now?”
“They are…” Kihyun interrupted and turned his concerned stare toward Lisa-Marie’s direction. “What is happening?”
“Wait, what did you and Brandon do to Lamar?” Carson asked, trying to get the group back on track.
“Nothing!” Lisa-Marie shouted, a few pitches higher than normal.
Dom shook his head. “You shouldn’t keep denying it. It just makes you look more guilty.”
As he expected, she tried to jump at him again with her arms outstretched and her teeth bared. Jason caught her that time and held her back. He looked down at her and asked, “What did you do, Lisa-Marie…?”
“Her and Brandon killed Lamar,” Dom took the liberty of answering for her.
“NO!” Lisa-Marie screamed in protest, “It wasn’t on purpose!”
Everyone went silent at her confession and Jason even let her go as if he was too disturbed to be in contact with her.
She stumbled to the side and shook her head. Clearly, she hadn’t meant to say what she had so she immediately went to trying to explain, “You don’t understand—NONE of you understand! We were trying to solve this case and Lamar was an accident! We didn’t know he had epilepsy when we took him to ask him questions! We didn’t know!”
“But he told you, didn’t he?” Dom narrowed his eyes at her. “He asked for you and Brandon to let him go because he needed his medication. Didn’t he?”
“There…no…there’s no proof of that anymore because Brandon’s dead,” Lisa-Marie said as if that, somehow, made her look better.
“Because you killed him,” Diana pointed out. She walked closer and was able to see everyone’s expressions a little better—they were all turning on Lisa-Marie.
“Who’s to say someone else didn’t kill Brandon?” Karowitz raised his voice. It seemed he was the only one not convinced. “Sure, she accidentally killed someone but that don’t mean she’s the serial killer, right?”
“Who do you suppose it is then?” Munhee asked with a scowl in his direction. Judging by her expression, she expected her family to be number one on his list.
“Could be any of us,” the man responded but then gestured to Diana, “Like Miss Muhammad over here.”
“Oh, shut the hell up,” Carson scoffed and rolled his eyes. “It’s clearly Lisa-Marie. She’s been playing us this whole time. Hell, it was probably a game between her and her husband but when Brandon blabbed to Dom, she got pissed and killed him.”
“You know NOTHING!” Lisa-Marie yelled and aggressively combed her hair back. “None of you! It’s all lies! I’m telling you the culprit is Dominique and you’re all turning against me?!”
“I know who it’s not…” Jason spoke slowly and stared her down, “It’s not my daughter. I locked her in her room for no reason. Because of you. You and your sick game!”
“I didn’t make you do that!” She stepped away from the mob with wild eyes. “It’s all wrong. YOU’RE all wrong!”
“There is no one else, Lisa-Marie,” Hailey agreed with her husband.
“Did you really kill all of them?” Gary asked as he pulled his wife and son closer into his arms to protect them. “Even Susan?”
“Even Peter?” Polly added on with tears burning her eyes. She hadn’t ever fully believed any of the suspects had been the true culprits until now. Until she looked at how Lisa-Marie was squirming in front of everyone. And all she could think was that the couple who had been her neighbor for years had taken one of her children from her.
“I didn’t kill anyone!” Lisa-Marie shouted and started to shake.
“It’s over, Lisa-Marie,” Dom said quietly as the neighborhood was joined by a handful of men in uniform.
Chief Hampton approached his daughter while two officers walked around the group to meet her on the other side. There was nowhere for her to run to so she just went limp and allowed them to secure the handcuffs around her wrists.
A squad car pulled up so the officers could place Lisa-Marie in the back. She didn’t even fight it.
Chief Hampton stayed where he was and looked at the crowd with a sober frown. “I am so deeply sorry for what has happened here these past few months. Truly…this was a failing that will not easily be lived down.” He sighed and shook his head. Everyone understood how much it must have stung to have his daughter be the one behind such heinous acts.
“We’re just glad it’s over,” Jason said with a sigh. He looped his arm around his wife’s shoulders and brought her and his daughter closer to him. Many of the other families shared in his sentiment and followed his lead in pulling their loved ones close.
The police chief nodded and then looked to Dom. “Mind coming to the station as well? With Brandon dead we can’t exactly get much out of him. Your testimony of his confession borders on hearsay but it might help when comparing it to my daughter’s story.”
Dom was nervous but he understood why it was necessary. He gulped and then agreed, “Alright. I’ll tell you everything I was told.”
The rest of the neighborhood watched the two walk off together and then continued to watch as the police cars drove away. The knowledge that it was over wasn’t quite the same as relief but the emotion was settling into some of them. The Dicksons cried and hugged their son tightly between them; Polly was surrounded by her children who began to mourn Peter all over again. The Jungs walked closer to the Rosello family and offered their support while Jason looked back to the direction of his house.
Victoria hadn’t done anything.
 She needed to be freed.
He led the charge back across the street and those from the first cul-de-sac shortly began to follow after. Once they were gone, the Dicksons and Karowitz both retired to their homes as well.
Only Diana and Carson remained on the street and they looked at one another with expressions that mirrored each other.
After a moment, Carson smiled. It was crooked and full of exhaustion but it was a smile nonetheless. “It’s exactly what we thought.”
Diana didn’t feel as excited about ‘getting it right’ but she still nodded. “Yeah. I guess things will go back to normal now.”
“It’s too bad for my blog though.” He shrugged.
“You can still write. Or make some stuff up,” she offered as they causally started to walk back to her place. They had a lot to talk about and, even though it was still early in the morning, Diana was sure they could both use a drink.

Claire Dickson - Sea Change
Off of Starland.
I’m reading a story about a complicated relationship, set in the future during a mission to find alien life in the arctic circle. It’s like this album fell into my lap at just the correct moment. Fantastic symmetry.

Hoagie: Wait...
Hoagie: So, Lizzie is an alien, and now she's your ex AND your coworker...
Hoagie:... The love of your life has a brother who hates you with every fiber of his being...
Hoagie: ...and your daughter is dating the son of your worst enemy.
Hoagie, through muffled laughter: You're never gonna know peace!

Note
Let's think of dirty 1700s names. Or 1800s. The era with the top hats and gothic cities.
Fapston.
Dickson.
Fuckerson.
Lord Herpes.
Vaginton.
Shitterson.
Dick.
Lepussy.
Assterton.
Thanks for listening to my Ted talk. I will now self destruct.
You forgot “Debussy” which is the real name of the real person who created Clair de lune, one of my favorite prices

In light of the new advances of the GKND, I figured I’d share my little KND babes, my future Sector V:
Tumblr media
Overall plot:
At the end of Operation INTERVIEW, Rachel went looking for Nigel, and a year after Operation INTERVIEW, she found him. One thing led to another, and Rachel found herself returning to Earth a decade after she became a fugitive of the KND with no Numbuh 1 to show for it, heartbroken and almost empty-handed.
At twenty years old, Rachel was carrying perhaps the only proof that Numbuh 1 hadn’t just fallen off the map-- his one and only baby, not that he knew, of course.
10 years following Rachel’s return, there’s a new Sector V, and an Uno is once again at its helm.
Claire McKenzie:
Tumblr media
Operative Numbuh 21. Claire has bounced from place to place her whole life, never really having the time to make friends, and having a fugitive as a mother didn’t help. After hearing stories from her mom about the legendary Numbuh 1, she looks to joining the KND herself, hoping to follow in his footsteps and one day meet the man she so adores. She starts training at the Arctic Base with new trainee Numbuh 25, a girl named Jodie [REDACTED], and makes quick friends with her. Her boyfriend, Soopreme Leadah Numbuh 799, Samson Grey, gives her a cold shoulder most of the time, but she just knows he cares about her, deep down!
She falls into a leadership role immediately after being transferred from London to United States, Virginia, appointed as Sector V Lead. Her loyalty to her friends becomes one of her most defining characteristics, right below her naive optimism and her determination to follow in her dad’s footsteps. Claire aims to become the next greatest KND Operative the world has ever known and, finally, maybe, impress her father enough to convince him to come home.
Timothy Dickson:
Tumblr media
Operative Numbuh 7. You read his name right-- Dickson. He’s Numbuh 274′s son, he knows it, and he’s darn-well proud of it. Completely oblivious to his father’s transgressions as a traitor, Timothy inherited his father’s serious demeanor, as well as his hand-to-hand combat skills and expert-level marksmanship. He’s the best of the best, it’s in his blood, and other operatives should bow down as far as he’s concerned. He’s the perfect operative-- but it’s never quite good enough for him. He has to be better, reach his father’s level and go beyond in a way the KND has never seen before. He’s not entirely sure how he’s going to do that, yet, and neither is the rest of Sector V.
He and Claire but heads as two KND Legendary namesakes, but Claire proves herself a worthy rival and loyal friend, and Tim warms up to her, while he proves himself capable of seeing beyond the mission in a way Claire isn’t capable of and earns her respect and trust. He still firmly believes his father was the best KND operative ever, and that Numbuh 1 was a deserter never deserving of his name. He’s fiercely protective of his team in a way none of the other operatives are.
Daisy [REDACTED]:
Tumblr media
Operative Numbuh 388. Perhaps the prettiest girl to walk the Moonbase, Daisy is as feisty as she is sweet. She’s not above toying with admirers to get them to do her schoolwork, but she’s perfectly serious when it comes to KND work (most of the time). Totally unaware of [REDACTED], Daisy is very much 01101000 01100101 01110010 00100000 01100110 01100001 01110100 01101000 01100101 01110010 01110011 00100000 01100100 01100001 01110101 01100111 01101000 01110100 01100101 01110010 in a punch-first-ask-questions-later kinda way, with a power in her punch to match. Despite the flower in her hair and the pretty face and her collection of Rainbow Monkeys, Daisy is not the most feminine of girls. She’s totally uninterested in romance-- unless we’re talking about matchmaking, which many a KND operative has been the victim of in the past. She’s not Sector V’s covert specialist for nothing!
Daisy spends most of her time bickering with her brother Tank (who she doesn’t think likes her very much), and snarking at his collective group of “idiot” friends. She’s exceedingly close with Sector V’s 2x4 Tech Officer Jodie [REDACTED], and when they’re not lazing around the treehouse with magazines and complex prank blueprints, they’re getting themselves into what Jodie has affectionately termed “side quests”-- wild adventures that define what childhood means to the two of them.
Their partnership is the bane of Claire’s existence.
Tank [REDACTED]:
Tumblr media
Operative Numbuh 488. Daisy’s younger brother and self-proclaimed Daisy-plaything. Tank is pretty boyish. He loves basketball, and the small group of friends that he plays with, though friends would be a stretch in his opinion. A lot of the time, he and the other guys are exchanging insults. He likes to hang with these guys when he’s off the clock, but Sector V are his actual friends.
He’s less ready to throw punches than Daisy is, but if his fists go up, they won’t go down until he hears a bell. Relentless, Tank is short and overly sensitive, but also scathingly sarcastic. He may be the team medic, but he’s equally as good at digging salt into wounds as he is patching them up. If you land a hit on him, be prepared to get it twicefold back. Even if he and Daisy don’t get along (often), Tank loves his sister very much, and he is the only person allowed to hurt her feelings.
Jodie [REDACTED]:
Tumblr media
Operative Numbuh 25. The youngest of two, Jodie grew up fascinated with her older brother, 01001000 01101111 01100001 01100111 01101001 01100101, a brilliant mechanical engineer who never became a KND operative, but has been awarded several medals for his valiant assistance in the Great War of ‘18. He’s 13 years old, and she’s just ten, but he’s her whole world. She’s close with her mother and her father, and though she’s a nerd through and through, she’s the coolest nerd anybody has ever known. 2x4 motorcycles, charisma, wit, and a pair of goggles strapped on her sidebraided head, Jodie is likely the craftiest of Sector V. Brilliant and somewhat obsessive, Jodie takes her work very seriously-- but she also takes her play very seriously.
No prank or plan can be half-baked. She’s got blueprints on blueprints of ideas she and Daisy are yet to unfold-- from pranks that trick every boy on campus out of their lunch money to treasure maps to hidden places nobody has ever explored. Jodie was Claire’s first friend, as they were assigned partners during extensive KND training. There was something... that called her to Claire, and Claire to her in turn, almost like they were meant to meet each other (Jodie’s mom thinks Claire looks little familiar, but she’s not sure where she’s seen her). It was during this training that Jodie fell head-over-heels for, at the time, Senior Operative Samson Grey/Numbuh 799. Claire expressed her interest in Sam before Jodie could, and Jodie knew how bad it would hurt her if she went after him, so she relented and encouraged Claire to make a move.
