“The world is filled with magic. You just have to look and listen.” ✨🎨✨ The Color of Lies by C. J. Lyons is a young adult thriller mystery novel centring around Ella and Alec as they work together to piece together what really happened to her parents. I have to admit that the discussion around synesthesia was the part I enjoyed most about this book. The way Ella talked about her experience and what she saw was incredibly detailed, and it was fascinating putting myself in her shoes. The overall mystery to me was pretty predictable, but it was still an enjoyable read for the most part. The characters could have been a little bit more fleshed out but overall, it was a quick and engaging read. ✨🎨✨ The Color of Lies is book 7 for 2023. #bookstragram #books #booksofinstagram #booklover #bookphoto #reading #aussieswhoread #avidreader #bookwhore #aussiereader #reader #readersofig #booksofig #bookcommunity #bookish #bibliophile #readersofinstagram #bookstagrammer #booklife #bookaddict #girlswhoread #readinggoals2023 #auskiwibooksta #bookquote #thecoloroflies #cjlyons #youngadultbooks #mysterythriller #synesthesia #domesticthriller https://www.instagram.com/p/CnoUxnuLJky/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

The Drowned Woman by CJ Lyons was a slight disappointment only because of the hype prior to reading the book.  The characters of Jericho and Wright are a good team.  The plot had several different subplots and one main plot. A race against the clock mystery.  Very suspenseful and at times had you sitting on the edge of your seat rapidly turning the page.  I would definitely recommend.

The Drowned Woman by CJ Lyons  (Jericho and Wright #2)
My Review (5*): You know it’s a page turner when it’s 2 am and you’re not ready to stop reading. This is what happened to me when I started this book and soon I was at 25% and I didn’t realise I had been been reading for nearly two hours. This is a fast paced, gripping and highly entertaining story that kept me hooked and turning pages as fast as I could. It’s an excellent police procedural and I like the mix of investigation and the description of of Leah/Luka’s family life. Both Leah and Luka are complex and fleshed out character and I appreciated how the author deals with their grief and their path to heal. The plot it tightly knitted, full of twists and turns, and even if I guessed the culprit quite early I was kept guessing about the motives and what was going on. I think that the author delivered and excellent story and even if it’s the second in a series it can be read as a stand-alone. I can’t wait to read the next instalment and catch up with Leah and Luka. This one is strongly recommended. Many thanks to Bookouture and Netgalley for this ARC, all opinions are mine
Description: Her eyes fluttered open as the first splash of frigid water crashed through the open window beside her. She shook her head, startled to be awake—to be alive. She was in her car, in the river. She blinked, tried to focus. And then it came back to her. He’d tried to kill her… One month since she lost her husband, Dr Leah Wright knows it’s time to return to her family home. Though the crime scene tape and blood stains are gone, she will never feel safe with her daughter there again. Receiving a call from Detective Luka Jericho to assist with a police investigation is a welcome distraction, until she sees the scene: a wife dead, another family ripped apart. As Leah is the new head of the Crisis Intervention Center, Luka knows she can help him speak to the victim’s traumatized husband, who he suspects might have had something to do with his wife’s death. But when Leah interviews the woman who lives across the hall, they uncover evidence of a serial killer in their rural Pennsylvania town. The same person who claims responsibility for drowning Luka’s fiancée seventeen years ago… With danger closer to home than ever before, Leah realises that to find the killer they may need to dig into Luka’s past. But the killer is already taunting Luka, promising to kill again. Is it already too late to save another innocent life?

Book Recommendations #2
1.) the Walled City by Ryan Graudin
2.) Messenger of Fear by Michael Grant (one of my fav authors)
3.) Watched by CJ Lyons (really good; kind of creepy at points)
just a couple recommendations of books i have read recently. Watched was really good and I cant wait to read more by CJ Lyons. Messenger of Fear was eh. I think the book should have continued more. The ending did leave me wanting to read the next one but it took a long time to reach the point of excitement. I will probably read the next one and if i dont like it I wont read any others that come after. Walled City was intriguing. If you want more, full length reviews of these books, let me know!

Bloggers on Riffle: CJ Lyons
Today, we're happy to introduce one of our great book experts on Riffle, bestselling author CJ Lyons!
New York Times and USA Today bestselling author of seventeen novels, former pediatric ER doctor CJ Lyons has lived the life she writes about in her cutting edge Thrillers with Heart. CJ has been called a "master within the genre" (Pittsburgh Magazine) and her work has been praised as "breathtakingly fast-paced" and "riveting" (Publishers Weekly) with "characters with beating hearts and three dimensions" (Newsday). Learn more about CJ's Thrillers with Heart at www.CJLyons.net and everything she knows about being a bestseller at www.NoRulesJustWRITE.com
CJ has been a great part of our Mystery/Thriller community on Riffle and we asked her about her top 5 reads. She graciously responded by not only giving us a list but also why these books spoke to her.
1. Something Wicked This Way Comes by Ray Bradbury I've love Bradbury's work since I was a little girl but have read this one over a dozen times. The way he combines poetry, lyric descriptions, and characters with true hearts and souls is magical. 2. Winter's Tale by Mark Helprin The first book that transported me via language--it's a true gift to immerse yourself in his words and world. 3. To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee Not just a wonderful coming of age novel, the way she uses the pacing and point of view to both build a world and create suspense are amazing. 4. Room by Emma Donaghue Like so many other readers, this book blew me away with its verisimilitude and pure emotion. As a pediatrician I've worked with victims of severe abuse and she nailed the psychology without turning their story into titillating, sensationalized torture-porn like so many others have. 5. Last Child by John Hart Elegantly written, wonderful world building, twists and turns in the plot, and powerful characters.
We're looking forward to more fantastic recommendations from CJ!
