Alright Walking Dead fans, time to be honest.
I've started a rewatch after finishing TOWL and can't help but compare the more recent story arcs (Reapers, Commonwealth, CRM) with previous seasons. Is it just me or do the final seasons of TWD and the CRM ending in TOWL seem completely rushed?
I appreciate TOWL for being the Richonne love story that it is, but I can't help feeling as if we were missing a major part of the story development. It felt so short after Rick had been missing for a whole six years.
Part of me also wishes that we had like a 3rd season of World Beyond or even another spinoff that just focused on the CRM and how they were such a big bad entity to hold Rick, and so many others, as essentially captives. To me, it lessened the threat the army posed to Rick and Michonne and even lessened what they accomplished by overthrowing Beale and his accomplices. I would have loved to see more from Rick and Jadis when they learned of the destruction of Omaha and the discussion about the CRM's role after.
I mean, the CRM was teased in TWD, a whole arc in FTWD with Al, and then was the entire focal point of TWB! Only for the leaders to be taken down in less time than it took to defeat the Saviors or the Whisperers.
So c'mon. Indulge me, please. Am I crazy? Because TWD S1-9 seem so fleshed out while S10-11 and all of the TOWL feel like a race to the end just to get to the Dead City and Daryl Dixon spinoffs.

Thiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiis. This is exactly how I feel about the spinoffs and the ending to the OG series. They spent YEARS building up the CRM, even longer if you accept that Grady Memorial may have had contact with the CRM early on in Seaosn 5. That final scene in Season 10, where Michonne rides off with a wagon train? That had so much more potential than what we ended up getting in TWOL.
I can't be the only one who wanted a full-blown escalated second series with all the ones from FTWD and TWB coming together to join the Commonwealth in helping Rick defeat the CRM. That's what I envisioned when they first announced the movie trilogy.
Not to be a downer, but the spin-off era has been so weird.
I waited since season 1 of twd to know where these helicopters were coming from, and then they make TOWL "an epic love story". .. why? Nothing against rick and michonne being in love, but.. I didn't need that. It just seems like such a weird decision.
And then dead city.. idk, again, just.. why? I'm so through watching maggie be miserable bc negan is in her breathing space. It's actually boring. Slow-burn will-they-won't-they, but it's about whether she'll forgive a man for gleefully murdering her husband with a baseball bat? Ok. I'm just not invested, sorry, lol.
And then they turn the Carol and Daryl spin-off into.. solo superhero man dresses like a European apocalypse model and everyone loves him.
What is going on.

Small Miracles
Beth Greene is not dead. Though it is not for a lack of trying.
After eight long years spent in the CRM's grasp, struggling to find reasons to continue surviving, Beth finally finds her reason: Rick and Daryl are alive, and they are closer than she ever could've guessed. Now she must take advantage of her only opportunity to escape and track them down.
Along the way, she revisits all of the places that changed her into who she has become. And she is forced to remember who she truly is at heart despite how unrecognizable she finds herself.
But she has an unexpected ally along for the journey. Just the same as her, he is somewhat of a living miracle. Except he's no longer living... he's a walker.

Chapter 26 // Part 17: North Carolina III
A moment of silence passes over them. Or, more realistically, hangs over them. Like a bomb waiting to drop. Like a noose waiting to tighten. And then, unable to be left hanging in this purgatory of uncertainty for even a moment longer, Beth takes a long drag off her cigarette and holds the smoke in her lungs for as long as possible before asking, “What was it?” “What was what?” Amanda shoots back, though her tone betrays her ignorance. Beth pauses. She exhales long and slow, watching the cloud of smoke expel from between her lips and dissipate before her eyes. “What was it that—what made you think he loved me? What made you so sure? You an’ Edwards?” Another moment of silence passes between them. Beth can feel the tension like a physical thing. Like a rope pulled taut, like a bubble ready to burst. Still, she doesn’t turn her head to look at Amanda. She simply waits. Then Amanda speaks softly, her voice cracking as she recalls, “Well… the way he looked at you. Anybody with eyes could’ve seen it. But I guess that was something more subtle. For all we knew, it could’ve been the guy with the Colt Python who loved you—the way he grabbed you once you made it over to their side. But… no. It wasn’t him. He loved you like a daughter, or a little sister. That was obvious.” “Rick,” Beth manages to say. “What?” “The guy with the Colt Python. His name is Rick.” “Oh, right…” Amanda mumbles, clearing her throat awkwardly before going on, “Well, it uh, it was the looks on all their faces after Dawn shot you. It was the way he-he didn’t turn away. Rick turned away real quick. Like he was wiping the blood off his face, but it wasn’t that. He was wiping away something else, and he wouldn’t look at you after, he just kept looking at us, at the floor where your blood was pooling. But Dixon—he didn’t hesitate. He had this look on his face. It was something I’ve never seen before. I-I don’t think I’ve ever seen it since. The way he pulled out his gun and fired so fast, blew that bullet right through Dawn’s head before she could get more than a couple words out. Everything after was kind of a blur. I can’t tell you exactly what happened. I don’t remember it. But what I do remember is seeing him on the floor. “I was just standing there, useless. I thought your people were gonna kill us. I thought they were gonna shoot us all dead just like he’d shot Dawn. I begged ‘em not to, I tried to step in and stop more pointless deaths. But they didn’t even try to kill us. They all seemed… shocked. Or-or more sad than shocked. But he was the saddest. He was crying. He was picking you up like he thought—like he thought you’d wake up. He was shaking you, and then he was just… crying. Begging. Nobody moved. Not even Rick. Everybody just watched. We watched him pray, and then we watched him pick you up and carry you out in his arms. You were heavy. You were dead weight. They all knew it. All of your people—they knew it, they tried to help, but he pushed them away. He wanted to carry you, all on his own. He had you in his arms and-and he looked back at us. At me, at Edwards, at everybody. He looked back with this expression that just… it told us to go to hell. He looked back at us like he was promising something. Like he was promising he’d be back to make us pay for killing you. And then he carried you out. All the way down. And he-he never… Beth, he never looked back. Not once. All he cared about was you. We all saw it. We had no idea. Not until you took that bullet. We had no fucking clue.”

You know what we deserved?
Carol vs. the CRM
If our girl had known that Rick and Michonne were being held captive by the largest existing military since the Fall? She would have set herself up on the inside of the city to be the best undercover agent she was destined to be and when the moment came, she'd come in with all the firepower she could carry to take down the corrupt supporters of Beale & Co.
That's the spin-off between TWD & TOWL that we truly needed.
Bonus: Ezekiel offering support and manpower from the Commonwealth because he'd still move heaven and earth to be sure his queen was okay.

I’m very surprised there is an “Okafor is for the resistance” theory circulating in the fandom. ‘He is fomenting a soft coup within the military to peacefully give power to the Civic Republic once the time comes.’ I’m hearing this going, what? I feel like the odd one out! What am I seeing differently?
Maybe it’s my interpretation of his vision: “Monsters that kill the monsters—that’ll be over soon.”
Okafor speaks well and is charismatic but that’s the trick. He doesn’t care about anyone’s freedom, including Rick’s or even his own. He’s a villain—someone to test our two heros’ limits and their beliefs, not support them. Well, if he and Beale were on the same path of destruction and control when they ‘recruited’ Rick and gassed Omaha, then they only disagreed on the tactics of the CRM’s coup of the Civic Republic. They split on something more subtle; Okafor wanted a soft coup but Beale wants a hard coup.
What does that make our heroes, Rick and Michonne? I think for Rick the question will be, to inherent the Lieutenant Colonel’s vision and change it, at risk of losing everything to Major General Beale—or to abandon the Civic Republic’s fight for the safety and comfort of family if he can? I think 1x02 will bring Michonne’s years gone by and her inner conflict into play. As always, she will lead Rick to make the right choice, which will affect a lot of people. ❤️
Even if I’m wrong, at some point I’m gonna argue why we should dislike Okafor and appreciate him as a villain. Think I’ll make it part of a 1x01 analysis thread: Rick, Pearl and Donald: CRM’s Alliance of Three.
#tv shows#twd#the ones who live#donald okafor#rick grimes#michonne#amber speaks#*#Okafor loved his secrets#once Rick realized he’d committed to a coup which was actually a bad thing leading to more control it would have been too late#or too much to bear#thank goodness Okafor did not survive his encounter with Michonne#heheh#…#‘there will be no more As and Bs’#the CRM are monsters; they don’t want the Civic Republic to know who they’re being ruled by#Okafor wanted to do a soft coup but Beale wants to do a hard coup#he wants hot warfare; a ground war#remember World Beyond#Michonne’s 1x02 will show us how far they are willing to go too#to cancel any threat to their absolute power

Oh, if I had a nickel for every time a conservative pulls out this old chestnut, I’d be a very rich man today.
This bimbo’s ravings are no surprise, because clearly she has no idea what words mean.
We do in fact, live in a democracy. The form that our democracy takes is that of a constitutional republic.
No, we are not a pure, direct democracy. No country on this earth has a pure democracy! Most of them follow a similar style to our own, where representatives are elected directly by the people.
It is only because of the dismal state of education in America that people like this woman are so wrong about basic facts about our society as well as being completely ignorant on so many things. Frankly, if Americans were better educated, people like her would never be elected to public office.
In any case, what does that have to do with gun regulation?
A solid majority of the American people are in favor of gun regulation, and restrictions on ownership. Our Constitution was designed with the idea that it can, and should be amended over time. There is nothing stopping us from repealing the existing Second Amendment, and replacing it with something that is clearer, better, and consistent with the reality of the modern world.
I do not for one second believe that the Founders of this country ever intended for weapons of war to be in the hands of civilians. It is one thing to have a handgun or a rifle for self-defense, sport, etc., but no one on this planet needs an assault rifle, unless they are in an active theater of war!
