Hello senpai it’s 🖤  anon for the ask game can you answer 2, 4, 11, 12, 19 and 25. I hope it's not too many.
🖤 anon! It's always a delight to have you in my inbox! Thank you for all the questions!
And don’t worry, it’s not too many! 💖🥰 I’m more than happy to answer!
2) a character whose POV you’re currently exploring
A small WIP (that I really should address soon) is centered on Gauche's character and I've only written for him once before and years ago. I find him fascinating because of how exclusive he is with his care (initially, he branches out his love in canon). He's not self-centered the way, say the Dark Triad are. But he's not sociable and giving the way someone like Asta is.
I guess most people are like that, they have their circle of who they care for deeply. But Gauche is a lot more intense about it. And that's what makes him fun.
I really hope I can get him right with the WIP.
4) a story idea you haven’t written yet
So I answered this question earlier but I can answer it again all fresh because AAAAAHHHHH! I have a lot of story ideas that I have yet to write out.
An idea that has been plaguing me recently is the thought of writing different endings for certain dating sim routes. The "Normal Endings" from Radiant Tale have a bit of range to them.
In Zafora's Normal Ending, mc Tifalia and him don't end up in a romantic relationship (which is kinda the goal of a dating sim) but he usurps his corrupt uncle's position of power and Tifalia is his secretary. That sounds normal enough. Meanwhile in Ion's Normal Ending, Tifalia ends up in an indefinite coma due to injuries while Ion has his heart frozen to keep him from being used as a living puppet. So both of them are essentially dead to the world. The ending had me going "the heck just happened in my sweet yet adventurous circus otome?!?!?!" And then Paschalia's Normal Ending just... Fucking slaps Ion in the face with how ideal it is in comparison.
I would like to write alternate endings for RadiTale's routes that fall more in line with the tone of Ion's Normal Ending because, man, I cannot have him suffer alone!
11) a WIP you’d like to finish someday
AAAAAHHHHH! I have a WIP for a second chapter of a fanfiction I wrote for the Cinderella Phenomenon games.
It's such a cute idea! Lucette wants to give Klaude a special gift but ends up adding a bit more to the gift so it suits Klaude a little more while still keeping the original idea in tact! KHDIGUAETHIAETH! But I'm hung up on a transition point so maybe I'll skip the transition scene and get onto the real meat of what I want to write and maybe then I'll finish the WIP!
12) a trope you’re really into right now
Aside from the possessive lover trope I mentioned earlier, I will always and forever be a sucker for "I will love/forgive you no matter what" dynamics (one of the core ideas to Nacsele so no surprise there).
Unconditional care is my jam! I do get that some relationships work better with the dynamic one apologizing and the other finding it in themselves to accept and forgive (Silvas siblings, the beloveds). But I will forever prefer relationships where someone has done wrong (and acknowledges/shows remorse for it) and feels like they can't be loved/forgiven, but the other person just brushes it aside in favor of showing love (Finral and Langris, Yami and Nacht, Yves x Ceres [Virche Evermore], Ignis x Kotone [Cafe Enchante], Nacsele).
Love me characters who embrace the one who hurt them because their love is stronger than their pain.
19) the most interesting topic you’ve researched for a fic
🤔 Most interesting topic I’ve researched?
Maybe it was whether or not lye used for soap making was available during a specific era in Japanese history.
I guess recently I did a quick search on terminology used in city planning. Not all that interesting or in-depth though.
I honestly don’t do that much research when writing fanfiction. I know I’m not expected to be an expert in every possible topic that comes up in a fic and readers probably come in knowing my breadth of knowledge isn’t that great. So I end up not putting that much thought into researching and any inaccuracies on certain topics are likely forgivable.
25) besides writing, what are your other hobbies?
Another question I answered before but I can still give fresh answers to.
So I'm not sure how much of a hobby this is but I collect soap bars and then make my way through them. I go to a particular soap shop because I love how big and colorful they make their soap. I sometimes get tempted to bite into the soap because the colors are so, like, candy-esque.

Rather than ‘transformative’ I often feel that there should be a shorthand term for fandom/fic writers who attempt to reassert traditional, racist/heteronormative patriarchal social orders into properties that even marginally dare to push against them,
Tumblr media
What's he gonna do? Get a job?
The term you want already exists, though it may not have occurred to you in this context.
Bourgeois.
This adjective describes actions or aesthetic choices which support middle-class and conventional values. I will further narrow it in this instance to white middle-class conventional values of the United States, as those are the ones that I know best.
First caveat: of course, this doesn't apply to all fanfiction, even to all fanfiction within a given fandom or even a given ship. But the bourgeois strain of writing definitely exists within the phenomenon. Second caveat: I am not a radical progressive by any measure. There are certainly some conventional values of the white middle-class that I appreciate and embrace. However, that doesn't prevent me from identifying trends in group behavior. If it looks like a duck, and it walks like a duck, and it quacks like a duck, it's probably a duck.
I will now illustrate what I mean by this with examples from my primary fandom, Teen Wolf, but what I found is that this can easily be applied to many other fandoms, to greater or lesser extents: the Star Wars fandom, the MCU fandom, the Lord of the Rings fandom (!), and so on. The bourgeois need to support aristocratic, privileged, white males as cultural objects and status leaders pervades all of these fandoms; there's a reason Kylo Ren, a genocidal space fascist, received such manic devotion.
What I find extraordinarily interesting is how often elements of transgressive or counter-cultural behavior is introduced to conceal the bourgeois impulse from the audience, or sometimes even from the authors themselves. In the case of my fandom, there is an emphasis on the inhumanity of the characters as werewolves, or a defense of a serial killer, or the reconstruction of the primary romantic relationship as gay (often ignoring canon gay relationships), but this transgressive element never actually threatens the conventional social structure. On to the examples.
Peter Hale's vengeance is recontextualized as justice. The triggering event in canon is the Hale Fire, which is presented as a disruption of the social order, as it should be. And yet, canon's insistence that Peter's resulting murder spree is both self-serving and absolutely destructive vanishes from fanfiction, because it doesn't reinforce the bourgeois idea that the tragedy must be corrected to the satisfaction of white men because of the Hale's privileged status. Peter's actions are vindicated through claims of mental incapacity (which canon rejected), through the conjuration of non-existent social roles (the mythical Left Hand), or through uncritical sympathy (fanon Stiles claiming that he'd do the same thing). You don't see this impulse in fanfiction extended to Noshiko Yukimura's actions at Oak Creek or Tamora Monroe's crusade against the supernatural, because they don't have the same social status.
Ste rek (and Ste ter) is written as heterosexual romance in gay drag. While presented as something radical, the actual details of these relationships are astoundingly conventional. Why, as it often seems, is it required that Derek and/or Peter be alphas? There's no romantic or emotional reason; the impulse is purely about social status, like the heroines of fairy tales discovering that their handsome rescuer is actually a prince. Or how the canonically brave, impulsive, and audacious Stiles is written as a neglected, wilting dormouse, waiting for his (her) true love to rescue him (her) from her oblivious, selfish friends and family. The fact that it's between two men doesn't make it any less a PG-rated rehashed variation on Cinderella.
Scott McCall's role as heroic protagonist MUST be delegitimized. That canon chose a working-class Latino as it's primary focus over wealthy white men is, for many in the fandom, the production's original sin. As a consequence, his role must be rendered invalid. His struggles with school work are presented, contrary to canon, as a result of stupidity or simply being a bad student. His morals are presented as foolishness, tyranny, or the manipulations of a sinister black man. His romances are presented as either vapid infatuation or a dangerous sexual obsession. Above all, he is presented again and again as uncultivated, immature and driven by appetite.
Ever notice how often Scott appears in these fanfictions as a gluttonous eater? How he is portrayed as someone who doesn't know how to cook or clean or take care of himself? How his musical tastes run to the most banal of banal pop? How he's characterized as stubborn or incurious about lycanthropy? Of course, it's all designed to make him unworthy of his position as lead protagonist by positioning him as inferior to the white intellectual middle class, but what strikes me as funny is how much it resembles the critiques of the anarchist labor movements of the late nineteenth/early twentieth century, which portrayed labor agitators as an uneducated, unenlightened foreign mob threatening the prosperity of hard-working people.
These are just three examples. I could go on for like, an hour. And then I could select another fandom and give you examples of the same type of behavior, the same laborious defense of white middle-class patriarchal values hidden behind a very carefully constructed transgressive act, one that somehow never seems to disrupt the society in which they live.
Yeah, bourgeois pretty much covers it.

Replaying Cinderella Phenomenon and like... I know she's a bitch at the beginning, but is there no understanding that she was genuinely emotionally abused as a child by her mother? Genuinely, all of her dreams are her being abused and formed by her mother into what she ended up becoming.

My #1 post of 2022
With the rumors about Fanfiction.net potentially being abandoned, I decided to start grabbing fanfiction from the Thunderbirds fandom, which has 5.7k fanfics. I don't think I can save it all by myself, unfortunately.
This is a google spreadsheet I started, with very basic information on what I've grabbed and turned into PDFs. I've been doing the Print -> Save to PDF method.
If anyone decides to help, make a comment with the name of the fic, the author, the fanfic id number (can be pulled from the URL or the final detail listed after publish date), # of chapters, what format it's saved to and how you would want to be credited and I'll add to the sheet as I can.

You remind me of Mitsuri because you’re friendly, creative, and positive like her. I think your pfp has also led me to associate you with Shinobu but you’re not as scathing as she can be (which is a good thing. Shinobu can be intimidating!). You also make me think of Lucy with the love of friendship and writing passion. You’ve got this quiet and caring air to you that makes me think of Parfait from the visual novel Cinderella Phenomenon; I know you have some next gen ocs too and it kind of reminds me of Parfait’s motherly nature.
Aww thank you so much, Anon! This is so sweet and has made my whole day!! 💕It really means a lot to hear that I remind you of so many incredible fictional characters. I'm honestly extremely flattered and am probably blushing a little right now.
Aww...I'm so flattered to be compared to Lucy. She is absolutely lovely, and I definitely related to her love of friendship and writing though I think she is probably a lot cooler than me. 😂 I've not played Cinderella Phenomenon but based on what I've read about Parfait and what you've said about her, I take this as a great compliment. I try to be caring and motherly, so this is very flattering. Also, one of the lines on her character page on the wiki read, "despite her being in a weakened state, she is still quite a powerful fairy" and, though I'm not sure how accurate that is, I really needed that today, Anon, so thank you. 💖
As for the Demon Slayer characters, I love Mitsuri very much and really admire her as a character, though I've never felt we had that much in common. That said, I try to be friendly and positive like she is (and it's usually much easier to be like that on my blog) so it's encouraging to hear that I've succeeded in that. Those more friendly and upbeat traits are traits I try to have, but they don't always come naturally or easily to me so, I think I relate to Shinobu more in that way. I think we're both the type who are by nature a little more pessimistic and practical, but we try to show a more bubbly, upbeat side of ourselves to the world and put on a brave face even when things are difficult. I chose her as my pfp because while she is infinitely more incredible than how I view myself, I do think we have some similarities and I do relate to her especially in her independence, strong sense of justice, intensity and resilience just to name a few things. We also have similar senses of humor--we're both kind of snarky and sarcastic and tease to show affection. And I think my friends and family would attest that I can be a bit of tsun like she is, but even if it isn't always easy to express, I think we both care deeply and are very loyal, especially to our sisters. My little sisters actually remind me of a lot of Kanao and Aoi so I really connected to Shinobu's relationship with them and wanting to protect and take care of them. 🦋
To be honest, it's a little funny to me that you mention her because I've heard from my friends (irl) that I remind them of her. One of my best friends actually gave me a keychain of Shinobu's katana when he finished Demon Slayer for this reason. It's on my car keys...
Tumblr media
I like to (try to) keep things a lot more bubbly and positive on the internet than in real life, I think, (though I promise I try to be a nice person everywhere 😅). I really think of my writing and my blog as an outlet for my (secret) softer, fluffier side, but in real life I have a reputation in my friend group as the cynical, practical friend. (I can't imagine what my irl friends would think of my blog or my fanfictions if they found them. Honestly, they'd probably be shocked 😅😂). But it's nice to know that I'm still me all the way across the board so thank you for that and such an amazing compliment! Also, I'm really glad you don't think I'm as scathing as her or intimidating. (In the interest of full candor, I have been told I'm intimidating before (irl), but that was several years ago when I used to be a real ice queen, so I can only hope I'm more approachable now).
Thank you so much for such kind words and encouragement, Anon, and for playing my game! I don't know what I've done to deserve such high praise, but I am so grateful, humbled, and very flattered to know that you think so highly and so positively of me. I really can't thank you enough! Cheers!! 💖

Hi! You said in your post that you accepted requests for Cnderella phenomenon. I read your rules and I have two prompts that I believe that fit your rules. The first prompt is a Lucette/Rod soulmates AU. The second prompt is Lucette's wedding with Rod. Sorry if I misunderstood any of your rules. Since you have an AO3 account, you can fullfil my prompts there if you like the ideas. I can't put the link, but you just have to search for the "otome games SFW plot bunnies" prompt meme challenge.

“Mother, are you and father in true love? Like in the fairytales?”
It seemed like the wrong thing to say, judging by how her mother’s lips quirked downwards, displeased.
Anyone living in the palace was accustomed to the tiny intricacies of Hildyr’s expressions. The way her brow furrowed in annoyance, or the specific way she held herself when she was angry.
It was an important skill to acquire while living in the palace, but no servants, not even the king himself were quite as adept as Lucette, the crown princess.
She loved her mother, truly.
Even when she was harsh, her mother would always be truthful and teach her the most valuable lessons.
That’s why she learned not to bother her, to be able to read her moods to guarantee that she wasn't being a burden.
That’s why she mustn’t waste her time with questions unless they’re truly important.
Still, as silly as it seemed, knowing this was of the utmost importance to Lucette.
At her age, a soul mark was bound to appear anytime and she needed to be prepared!
“I thought I forbid you to speak of fairytales. Have you been reading them?”
“N-no, Mother.” Lucette said, truthfully. She considered stealing one or two books but figured it wouldn’t be worth her mother’s ire. “I overheard someone in the palace talking about it today.”
“Then I have to find that person and make sure that they know what an appropriate topic of conversation in the palace is.”
“B-but mother, the true love in fairytales sounds so nice! Do you think I can fall in love with a prince?”
Her mother’s brows furrowed in annoyance. Lucette could feel it in the air— the static-y tension that arose every time she made a misstep.
She didn’t mean to insist. Didn’t mean to speak out of turn, but she really wished to know why.
Weren’t her parents in love? Why are they married then?
She heard whispers in the corridors about mother not being blessed with a marking. About her father being bound to another. Were these things true? Were they not just nasty rumours?
Hildyr’s hand touched Lucette’s chin, gently raising her head so that her mother could properly see her.
She smiled. It was the same smile she always gave before giving her a lesson.
Her answer wouldn’t please Lucette, she could already tell. None of mother’s lessons were ever things she’d wanted to hear, after all, but there was no use in being told comfortable lies only to have the truth revealed later on.
Lucette was a big girl of ten and the crown princess, she more than needed to be told the truth.
“Dearest one, true love like that does not exist.” She said, firmly. Lucette did her best to hide the disappointment she felt at the statement. “The love between mother and child is the truest kind. It cannot be replicated by anything else.”
“But… What about soulmates?”
“All other kinds of love are an illusion. My love is all you will ever need. Do you understand me, my heart?”
“Yes, mother.”
Fate, Lucette discerned, never had been particularly kind to her.
It was a bothersome thing. An annoyance, really.
She has been born with everything, all the pretty dolls and jewellery that any girl could ever dream of, Servants waiting on her, ready to realise her every whim.
She had everything.
Everything except a soulmate.
She used to yearn for it, at a young age.
Stand in front of the mirror and check every inch of her body for a mark, any mark, any indication that her soulmate was there and that they existed.
But it had been for nought. No markings ever appeared and she had been burdened with the knowledge that she was, in fact, alone.
It seemed fitting. Her father never loved her, he didn’t even like her most days, the servants would at best shower her with apathy and her own kingdom despised her despite Lucette not having ever set foot outside of the castle walls.
Mother had been Lucette’s only source of love, but she was long gone now, leaving only her lessons in her wake.
Romantic love, her mother taught her, was an illusory thing.
A useless invention. Something made to distract people from their duties.
Soulmates were much the same. An invisible shackle bound to your ankle. A mysterious magic made to limit people’s potential, a weakness.
It was a good thing Lucette didn’t have one, she had said, these things only cause heartbreak. They could only stop her from achieving greatness, like her mother.
Not long after Lucette’s questions about soulmates, exposing one’s soulmark and even the mention of fated ones made the list of the unmentionable topics in the castle, with strict punishment for noncompliance.
And with that, for years following, Lucette barely thought about it.
Emelaigne had a soul mark.
Because of course, she did.
Her new step-sister had a way of always managing to get things that Lucette had failed to acquire, even if she seemed to be a failure in all other regards.
Still, she had a soul mark that she loved to show off:
A white carnation on her left shoulder.
Purity .
Luck .
Pure love .
What a fucking joke .
Emelaigne’s mother, Ophelia, also had one:
A single forget-me-not, that seemed to perfectly match King Genaro’s.
Lucette had never even seen his marking before, the small flower on his wrist, against his pulse, being hidden by cufflinks and gloves before her mother’s death.
The only person in that family who didn’t seem quite as comfortable showing his soul mark off was Rod, who scarcely even mentioned it.
It made him slightly less intolerable than the rest of his family, in her eyes. It wasn’t strong praise, since he carried his own brand of despicable, but Lucette’s hatred towards him lessened by his inclination to keep to himself and not rub her inadequacy in her face, like his sister seemed to often do (even if, admittedly, accidentally).
Still, he had one.
She was certain of it, since Ophelia and Emelaigne would always talk about when he’d meet them instead of awkwardly side-stepping the topic like her father often did with her, when he even remembered her lack of soulmate.
Lucette had no idea what it was or where it was located, but the existence of Rod’s soulmate was a certainty.
(Distantly, she wondered what his mark looked like, but she banished these frivolous thoughts as soon as they appeared)
It was bad enough to be forced into playing happy families with commoners, but even worse when she was made to feel so out of place when this was supposed to be her court. Her family.
Maybe this is why her father showed them so much love and care.
They had marks.
They had a soul bond.
They were, by definition, loveable .
Lucette was no such thing.
He heard it often, Servants in the corridors whispering about how she didn’t have a mark because she lacked a soul. These cutting remarks bothered her far more than she ever cared to admit, even if they came from those below her.
(Distantly, she wondered if their jokes had a small backing in truth).
Not for the first time, she wished they’d all disappear.

That feel when you write a fic that is almost 50k words and you still have to write the climax.
I’m not sure if I will ever post it. It’s a fic with Karma from Cinderella Phenomenon with an OC.

CinPhen Secret Santa!!!
So a bunch of discord peeps decided to do a secret santa! Here is my fanfic for @distracteddaydreams ! Hope y’all enjoy! Day requested some post-route politics, and I chose to do a Karma x Lucette fic. about 3k words, sorry about that haha
Lucette could feel the slightest tension begin to set into her forehead. Previously she had believed the royal court of Angielle to be tedious, but the court of Brugantia was proving to be even more so.
The long process of a inter-dynasty marriage had begun, requiring the crown princess to spend long periods of time away from her homeland to perform various duties in her betrothed’s country. Treaties had to be formed about what territory goes where, what monarch goes to what country, trade privileges, etc; and the two countries had to become acquainted formally in a series of diplomatic meetings and balls between royal figures and courts.
If this could be called diplomatic.
Treaties Lucette could handle. Her mother, albeit dubiously, taught her how to negotiate in these situations: what terms were outrageous, how to protect herself and her country as its ruler, how to add bits and pieces into the conditions that would give an invisible upper hand...but not how to handle-
“Lucette, dear, how do you enjoy the tea? It is one of Brugantia’s finest imports. But I’m sure our prince has treated you to this before, yes?
-cattiness. Looking across the table, Lucette mustered her best polite smile (or grimace. She was very sure it was a grimace) to reply, “Klaude prefers coffee, so we tend to take that in the afternoon in the place of tea.”
There was a noticeable, charged pause, causing Lucette’s eyes to flick wildly between the ladies. All of them had angled slightly to face her, expectantly waiting, each looking with a mix of indifference and lightly concealed distaste.
I said something wrong. What am I missing what am I missing what am I-
“The tea is lovely, though, I will have to urge him to include it the next time we take tea together.”
And like that the tension was cut. The women turned away from her to resume their neutral state, and Lucette could breathe once again. Duchess Angeline, a middle-aged, auburn-haired woman, was more than pleased to recount whatever gossip she heard amongst her servants, and attention was diverted from the princess.
Silently glancing at the clock in the corner, Lucette unfortunately found that she had nearly another half hour left with the court. If she had known that the process of marrying Klaude would take this many unnecessary conversations with so many dull individuals, she would have considered eloping.
As soon as the fantasy sprung in her mind, Lucette squashed it immediately. She has duties. Klaude has duties. And, while Lucette nor Klaude would admit it, they both loved their countries in the way a ruler only could. It was an odd, begrudging love, like a parent to an unruly child, but love nonetheless. For this reason, it was necessary that they fight through the messiness that was dealing with nobility.
Lucette, however, felt absolutely blindsided by the workings of Brugantia’s court. While previously in Angielle, the court had played a significant role in politics, the tyrannical reign of her mother had killed the power of nobility considerably; consequently, the king now absolutely resided over all lands with the court serving as a liaison between the king and the people. Her father intended to keep it that way to continue to ensure stability in the kingdom still recovering from the Great War. Brugantia was frustratingly different. It kept with the tradition of a spread out system of nobles having significant control over various territories, which led to them working with the king and advisors to pass laws that would benefit their lands (and themselves).
How on earth are you supposed to trust these people to do what’s best for the kingdom?, Lucette thought. All they seem to talk about is themselves or the next dullest thing possible.
She took another bite out of the cake in front of her and involuntarily cringed. Another thing she had yet to get used to was how Brugantian tea time seemed to consist of sweet snacks and other various desserts, compared to the more savory tea time she was used to in Angielle. While she did enjoy the occasional pastry, having one nearly every single day was enough to exhaust those cravings.
“Is something not to your liking, your highness?”
Apparently she hadn’t concealed her distaste well enough.
Lucette took a moment to center herself before returning to the duchess sitting across the table from her, silently scrambling to say something other than the fact that she was quite sick of sweets. Suddenly, the lady sitting to her right interrupted before the princess could speak, setting her fork down quite loudly.
“I do think that the chocolate petit four is off today, don’t you agree, princess?”
Lucette nearly sighed with relief. “I do, actually.”
Duchess Angeline was quick to recover, as it appeared the interruption surprised her as much as it did Lucette. Regardless, Lucette was grateful for the unspoken support of the woman. She did not miss, however, the quick glare the duchess sent to the lady and her slight shrug in response.
The etiquette of politics is far too complicated in her opinion. Having to say exactly the right thing to get your point across all under the guise of false politeness is...frustrating, to say the least. Entire conversations could be had in complete silence, communicating only through subtle changes in body language. Speaking was worse. Everything had its own hidden meaning, and changing how exactly you said one word could completely turn a situation on its head. It is far easier, Lucette thought, to just be direct. Be honest. Enough of this sickly sweet poison. She did see the logic behind it, albeit dubious. To say something a little too rough to another person in power could be the tipping point for inciting a trade block or, god forbid, a rebellion.
The brown-haired woman sighed dramatically. “Well, we will just have to talk to Remille. It’s not like him to bake a bad cake.” Just as Lucette thought the crisis was averted, then, faintly, there was that dark change again in Angeline’s eyes as the woman raised her teacup to her lips. “Lucette, your step-mother and step-siblings are bakers, yes? Ah, excuse me, former bakers. How does it compare to the servant cooks?”
The princess could feel her temperature rise a couple of degrees. She suspected that there would be some resistance to the engagement due to her mother being, well, Hildyr, and Lucette had prepared to protect herself against such attacks, but it now seemed like dissenters would use anything as a weapon to express their distaste.
So this is the true nature of the court, she thought bitterly. And while Lucette was not on the greatest terms with her family, their relationship had gotten better, and on most nights the princess did enjoy their company. In these moments, it felt as if the entire world was trying to prove that her changed viewpoint was for nothing, as if every cruel act and word proved her old self right.
Her hand went to her throat unconsciously, resting where her glass slipper pendant sat before she broke her curse. Lucette fixed her posture, lifting her chin before smiling a cool, closed smile at the woman. I will not let her know that I am irritated. I will not let her irritate me. I am above being petty. If she wants to play etiquette politics, then so be it.
“Yes, they were. In fact, Queen Ophelia,” she said, emphasizing her step-mother’s title, “Still bakes to this day, to relieve stress I believe. She is an extremely talented baker in my opinion.”
Apparently that was not the reaction that the woman was searching for. Duchess Angeliene’s eyes widened slightly as she dropped her cup to its saucer, and opened her mouth as if to defend herself. Before the woman could get a word out, Lucette interrupted her.
“And, if you would, I am the crown princess of Angielle and the fiancé of the crown prince of Brugantia. I assume you have not forgotten my correct addresses?”
The informal usage of her name, without even a title, by a woman she did not even know, incensed Lucette in an extremely deep manner. Stature, as she had learned, was not everything, but even the most basic of manners are required. But to be addressed so informally, so disrespectfully, was so...personal.
Every lady of the court at the table watched with wide eyes. The soft din of noise that usually accompanied afternoon tea was completely silenced. The older, more experienced women corrected themselves quickly and resorted to flicking their eyes between the princess, who had taken an air of regality, and the duchess, who had seemed to have lost all of hers.
Angeline took a moment to regain her composure, although her neck, splotched with red, displayed her flustered state. “I apologize, Your Majesty. I forgot myself in that moment, and…” the woman paused before forcing out, “I do hope you’ll forgive me.”
The princesses let out the breath she did not know she was holding, her hands relaxing in her lap. A victory, although admittedly a small one. If Lucette was not liked by the court, so be it, but she’ll be damned before she is run out by petty women who did not even know her.
There was a knock on the door behind Lucette, snapping everyone out of the tension that had seized the occupants of the room. The lady sitting next to Duchess Angeline (Lucette racked her brain before remembering the Marqesse’s name, Cerise) nudged the woman, who had forgotten that as the host of the afternoon, she was to answer the door. The corners of Lucette’s mouth twitched.
The duchess jumped. “Ah! Yes, do come in!” Lucette did not miss the way her shoulders sunk with relief at the diversion from her failed jab, before noticing all of the courtiers stood suddenly. Whoever came in must be equal to or higher in stature than the court, and Lucette could only pray that it wasn’t the k-
Before the princess could finish her thought, however, she felt arms being draped around her and a low voice close to her ear.
“I do apologize, but could I steal my fiancé away from you ladies for a moment?”
Klaude. Lucette broke into a soft smile, relief both at being saved from the court and happiness at seeing her betrothed for this first time that day.
And then turned a deep red.
Klaude pressed a soft, slow kiss to the skin just below her ear, causing the princess to shiver. What made matters worse, however, was the fact that the prince had buried his face in Lucette’s neck, angling his head just enough to see the rest of the table.
Suddenly the ladies of the court were far more interested in the embroidery on the table cloth, and Angeline was determined to look anywhere but at the royal couple. “Well, of cour-”
“Fantastic,” Klaude said, pulling Lucette out of her seat. “If you would excuse us.”
Lucette had barely bent into a curtsey before Klaude had pulled her out of the room and away from the various social rooms deeper into the palace. He was walking at a slightly faster pace than her, forcing the princess to nearly jog to stay holding his hand.
What’s wrong with him?
She couldn’t quite see the full expression of his face, but it seemed to her that he had a very firm grasp of his composure. That is, until Lucette looked at his eyes, green and intense with some unpleasant emotion she couldn’t place. The last thing she remembered talking about with him was his hunting trip with his father. Oh.
“Klaude, wh-”
The red-headed man simply squeezed her hand, and uttered, “Not now. Just a little bit more, my love.”
So she kept quiet and followed along. Lucette knew Klaude, and she knew that his ‘not now’ was now a promise rather than a dismissal; however, she could never get used to how she was never able to help Klaude until he decided to reveal to her what was bothering him. It was these small moments where she felt as clueless to him as she was when she first met him, and it was these small moments she despised.
Lucette was so wrapped up in her thoughts and what was possibly bothering Klaude that she failed to notice the number of servants and courtiers lining the hallways dwindling until there were none around the engaged pair. Klaude stopped abruptly, dropping her hand. She then took a moment to assess her surroundings, and noticed that they were in a section of the palace that was being redone, swaths of fabric covering the portions of the wall where wallpaper was being replaced. Lucette turned to look at her fiancé, standing stone still barely a foot from her. She cautiously reached out to touch his shoulder, to do something to bring him out of whatever mood he was in.
The moment her fingertips brushed his shoulder, Klaude pounced on the princess without warning, hands on either side of her face and kissing her with an intensity Lucette had never experienced. Yes, they had kissed...passionately before, but this felt different. The concern in Lucette’s mind faded as she melted underneath him, her hands clutching at his shoulders for stability.
The reciprocation only seemed to drive Klaude further, pushing Lucette against the wall. In surprise, the woman gasped against his lips, allowing him to slip his tongue into her mouth. Lucette’s hands finally found themselves in the prince’s hair, and as she experimentally tightened her grip, she could’ve sworn she heard him make a noise from the back of his throat.
Klaude pulled away, only to return his attentions to her neck. In a sudden moment of clarity, Lucette suddenly remembered why they were in this wing in the first place, and managed to squeeze out a, “What happened?”
The prince stopped briefly in his affections to laugh mirthlessly, and between kisses, said, “One of my...father’s advisors...does not think...that our marriage...is a good idea.”
Lucette froze, pushing against her fiancé’s shoulders to stop his ministrations, shock running cold in her system. “He said what?”
Klaude released the princess, bringing himself up to make eye contact with her, but leaving his hands on her waist. She could now see his eyes clearly, desire slowly being overtaken by what the princess could only describe as fury.
“He said that it was a political disadvantage. That Angielle was too unstable, too unpredictable to have an alliance with, that...”
Her eyes widened. He was implying that…
“...I was too unstable to have on the throne,” Lucette finished for him. The man flinched in response, and she could feel his hands form fists in the fabric of her dress.
“And earlier too, with the duchess I-” Klaude suddenly exclaimed, the edges of his words tinged with distress, and his right hand moving to clutch the rose necklace she gave him.
That was enough.
“Klaude.” Lucette took his face in her hands, forcing him to look her in the eyes. He looked at her almost frantically, green eyes wide, and she suddenly realized how all of this was taking a toll on him. Klaude had never been the responsible type, she had heard so many stories from him about how exactly he’d hide and shirk his various charges. To now be dealing with all of his duties and interacting with the court and the advisors must be...overwhelming, to say the least.
The princess returned her focus to the man in front of her, who was still looking at her, searching her face for something that he could decipher, that he could hold onto.
“We are still getting married, yes?”
The words had barely left her mouth before he retorted with a quick, incredulous, “Of course.”
She leaned forward, placing a delicate kiss on Klaude’s lips, pulling back before the man could deepen it. “Then that is it. Forget everything else. It doesn’t matter what the courts think. Them disapproving of our engagement does not stop the fact that you are going to be my husband.”
He stared at her blankly for a second before breaking out into a soft smile. “Say it again, love. Please.”
Lucette acquiesced. “You are going to be my husband.”
Klaude’s hands slowly made their way to her face to tuck her hair back to where it had fallen out during their earlier kiss. “Yes, I will be. And you will be my wife.”
The princess flushed and knew that the small amount of powder she applied in the morning would not be enough to hide the reddening color of her face. She quickly looked away, choosing to not acknowledge her fiancé’s chuckle at her embarrassment. “I-I will be. I will be,” she said, trying to mask how the phrase made her stomach flutter. “We just have to get arrangement terms processed. All of this...interaction is just for etiquette and tradition.”
“Besides,” Klaude drawled slyly, “my father likes you too much to let you go. Something about you being a good influence on me and ‘keeping me in check’, although I have no idea what he could possibly mean by that.”
Huffing, Lucette pushed the man’s shoulders lightly, not bothering to hide the smile now growing on her face as well. She knew that as long as Klaude loved her, nothing else mattered, but it was reassuring to know that the king did not look down on her because of her nature as a witch, her relations, or how cruel she used to be.
Lucette turned, murmuring a soft, “We should head back,” which elicited a groan from Klaude. Regardless of his displeasure at the idea of returning to the day, the prince still followed, offering his arm to walk her, which the princess immediately took. They walked in silence for a moment, both enjoying the other’s company, before Lucette turned to her partner.
“What was that in the tea room?”
“I’m afraid I don’t know what you’re talking about,” Klaude retorted, blatantly feigning innocence.
The princess raised a brow. “So you don’t remember accosting me in a full room?”
“Oh that? I would hardly call that accosting you, dear, just…” He paused. “Just sending a message.”
Lucette huffed, nudging Klaude to keep moving. The pair walked back to where they were expected; however, unbeknownst to them, word had gotten to the king of Klaude’s ‘message’, and the man was understandably excited about embarrassing the both of them at dinner later that night.
