adding FURTHER ON (because this is how my brain works)
this is what cie'th stones look like in the game (in the og shot, the entire party was standing around it)
Tumblr media
maybe it's just me, but personally, that has a very similar look to JENOVA. the hair, the hand, the face, the boobs hanging out there. idk what to do with this but when they excavated her out, they could have taken out the extra crystal, turned her around to face forward, and do other modifications to make her the in game Jenova we know and love. it's possible that they also attacked various other limbs to her (like the squid tentacles) in order to give her some extra pizzazz, or also more ability, since as the cie'th stone, she couldn't exactly move and groove
Everyone saying Zack will come in and save Aerith but just imagine:
The scene is set, Sephiroth is descending, Cloud panics, feathers are falling, Aerith is ready, it’s so over and then BAM!
GENESIS DRAMATICALLY SWOOPS IN LAST MINUTE, FABULOUS AS EVER, HERO OF THE DAWN, HEALER OF WORLDS,
HE FIGHTS SEPHIROTH OFF AND JUST SAYS
“Surprise bitch. Bet you thought you’d seen the last of me!”
I WISH T—T
To be honest that's not too far off from what I think could happen. If the timelines are bound to merge at some point, it could very well be at a pivotal moment in the story, like Aerith's death.
Plus that scene in the new trailer where Marlene is telling Zack that "a scary man" is going to kill her when she wakes up is a huge indication that Zack is going to find out about the original timeline (And Sephiroth) and one will have some influence offer the other :[
Also, I'm a believer that Genesis will appear in some way. Everything is lining up for him to appear, whether that's through mentions, flashbacks, or—fingers crossed—a full appearance where he hopefully is able to team up with Zack and comatose Cloud and help them (a girl can dream).
I don't think Aerith is going to live though :[ The arbiters of fate are there for that reason. Unless it's a case of "a life for a life" and the person who saves her ends up sacrificing themselves in order to maintain the balance.
Then let's call this a crack theory and say that is the case.....that scene of yours is a little haunting isn't it? Minerva didn't let Genesis die because he hadn't fulfilled his duty as a SOLDIER, then what happens when he does?
I'm not going to say that I genuinely think Genesis is going to sacrifice himself to save Aerith in specific (mainly because I still don't think Aerith will live) but him sacrificing himself in general doesn't sound too crazy. After all this is the final act of Loveless:
Even if the morrow is barren of promises;
Nothing shall forestall my return;
To become the dew that quenches the land;
To spare the sands, the seas, the skies;
I offer thee this silent sacrifice.

ok VERY tentative VERY subject to change loose outline for t0/mgs au
Ok. Let’s start this as a web. Concordian Joy who defects to become the White Tiger Secundus l’Cie.
Goes back even further. Rubrumite-Concordian alliance Cobras. Rubrumite Sorrow, End, and Fury. Concordian Pain and Fear. Concordian-Rubrumite Ocelot who was raised Concordian and acts to be in Milites’s favor but secretly supports the Rubrumite effort from the previous alliance.
Concordian Eva who was planted by Lorica, only to be cast out from both nations after failing to get the Philosopher’s Legacy.
Rubrumite-raised Lorican-Rubrumite Big Boss who was devastated by the Boss’s betrayal at the swapped alliance and is tasked to take down the l’Cie.
White Tiger Primus l’Cie Volgin (Concordia and Milites are allied here) who in failing to procure the Philosopher’s Legacy turns Cie’th (Man of Fire).
Because Joy crystallizes in dying to Big Boss, it leaves everyone in shambles. What do you MEAN—
Against all odds, Cipher/the Patriots ends up Militesi. With Zero as the Primus l’Cie.
Rubrumite Campbell… Concordian refugee Frank who was saved once by Big Boss only to end up in Militesi hands. Brought back to serve under the Rubrumite banner. Can’t find it in him to kill this Lorican child so he brings her back to Rubrum as well.
Concordian Kaz who loses to Rubrumite Big Boss and together they settle outside of the Crystals’ nations to form a Crystal-less nation (collecting stragglers and deserters and defectors lol). Rubrumite Strangelove with Concordian Joy. “Ex”-Militesi Huey is making me crazy conceptually though sorry.
Ok I’m skipping mgsv bc I don’t CAREEEEEEE pure Lorican Venom Snake who claims he’s been abandoned by the Vermillion Bird Crystal when in reality he was never linked to it. Militesi Quiet. Concordian Kaz. Concordian-Rubrumite Ocelot. Working as an independent unit under the greater banner of Rubrum. Discovered by Militesi-raised Liquid who is fucking PISSEDDDDD and Rubrumite Mantis who looks at Ocelot like :tbh:.
Oh my god. Lorican Gustava who’s trying to move to Rubrum with Frank and Naomi but gets rejected as a non-refugee. Forced into the Lorican draft in the end.
Big Boss leaves the Diamond Dogs under V’s care while he fucks off to the Lorica-Rubrum border to establish FOXHOUND under Rubrum.
Lorican-raised Snavid who’s brought into FOXHOUND, finds out he’s being trained under two Concordians but you know what, he doesn’t have time for questions when both of them are kicking his ass personally despite not being Lorican. Think of it like the Milites-Rubrum student transfer program and Lean, but for Lorica and Rubrum. And of course, Big Boss, in this time, becomes the Vermillion Bird Crystal’s Primus l’Cie.
As the l’Cie, wants Rubrum to split the Lorica-Rubrum alliance. Has V pose as swapping to work with Milites on Metal Gear. No better way to split an alliance than to betray and attack them. FOXHOUND sent to deal with it—Fox can’t kill V, not knowing it’s not Big Boss. Snavid sent in to rescue Fox and kill V. Temporarily slows the transition of alliance, but Snavid, who left thinking Big Boss crystallized, doesn’t realize he didn’t. Lorican Snavid is left alone.
Fox is left haunted and confused at Big Boss’s decision to betray Lorica, tearing down the peace-through-war he thought they were trying to achieve. But Big Boss finds him and explains it’s the Crystal’s directive and he agrees to help.
With Fox by his side, sets up a proper alliance between Milites and Rubrum to advance the magitek/magic hybrid Metal Gears, with full intention to storm Lorica and then Concordia with them. Well. Lorican-raised Snavid will not let that happen. More importantly, FOXHOUND, which was a mix of Loricans and Rubrumites, disapproves of the change in alliance, and remains its own mixed sect. With Gustava’s (and Fox’s) help, he does destroy the currently made Metal Gear and makes sure Big Boss crystallizes this time. In doing this, the Milites-Rubrum alliance fizzles, and all 4 nations are split again.
Fox is recovered by Militesi forces (the Patriots) and Para Medic uses him as an experiment in hybridizing humans and magitek in order to make them capable of using “magic”. Rescued by his sister in a covert mission, he manages to kill her, but not without being permanently fused with the magitek she was testing on him. FOXHOUND, now without Big Boss, caught between two split nations, declares itself an independent nation akin to MSF back in the day. Milites-raised Lorican-Rubrumite Liquid, Rubrumite Mantis, Concordian-raised Concordian-Lorican Raven, Militesi Octopus, Concordian Wolf, and ofc, Concordian-Rubrumite Ocelot. White Tiger Secundus l’Cie Liquid.
FOXHOUND, under Liquid’s directive, aims to recover the Militesi magitek of Metal Gears, intending to use it to re-establish itself at the top of Milites’s military command, using its basis in a multi-national group to incentivize their belief in cooperation to conquer all nations.
With this major new threat posited at all four nations, incl. Milites as many disagree with the idea of mass cooperation in weaponry. They group together to stop the resurgent FOXHOUND, ft. Militesi Nastasha, Rubrumite Mei Ling, Lorican Naomi, Rubrumite Campbell, Rubrumite Meryl. The primary researcher working on Metal Gear Rex is the Militesi Otacon. He believed he was making a new model of Magitek Armor, not realizing they wanted to try to infuse it with magic. At the same time, Gray Fox was getting used in the background as an obstacle to Snake by Naomi and Liquid both as he, in his experimented insanity, begs to fight Snake to the death. Burdened by electricity magic he can’t properly control which constantly backfires on him. They expected him to keep to the standards he’s had for the past few years in his identityless state, but instead, upon seeing Snake again, he gains a semblance of sanity and turns on Liquid to aid him before dying.
Liquid, upon failing the White Tiger Crystal, turns Cie’th upon defeat. Snake has to put him out of his misery.
I HAVENT GOTTEN TO MGS2/4 BC I AM SO SLEEPY

Okay, so everyone who says FFXIII gets way better toward the endgame is absolutely right.
Tumblr media
When you hit Pulse, suddenly there's a world you can explore, with options. There are optional sidequests. And the whole combat system is finally online in a reasonable way; I felt like I finally got to engage with all the mechanics here (and not before! I was fast, apparently, since it only took me 28 hours to get there).
But like—why did it have to take thirty hours to get there. Could they have made it fun for at least some of the first thirty hours. Why did they do this.
And even now, it's not nearly as good an experience as it should be. The Pulse Cieth stones missions are somewhat engaging, but they desperately need a better fast travel system and a better map.
Like it's cool that some of the Cieth stones are waystones and you can use them to teleport. But why not all of them? Why do I have to run back and forth across the Archlyte Steppe over and over again? Even with a chocobo it takes a bunch of time.
And then they really need to tell me, on the map, which Cieth stones I've done and which I haven't. I know there are a bunch of missions that are currently open to me that I haven't done. But it's hard to figure out where. They're numbered, so I can look it up on the internet. But I don't want to look it up on the internet. I want the game to make it easy to figure out which of these things I need to go check out.
I played up to the end of chapter 11, where it takes you off Pulse. And then I had to turn around and walk back to the beginning of Oerba to get to a teleport stone, even though there's one right there. It's just dormant until...??? Some point. So I'll also have to walk back after I finish sidequesting. Just unnecessarily jank and chore-y.

Fang turning on the gang for a hot second was such a well written scene
Like you can tell that she's only doing it because she's scared, and doesn't want any of her friends to turn into Cieth
And it's so heartwrenching

Something that is so underestimated yet heartbreaking in Final Fantasy 13 is Oerba. I feel like no one truly comments on the tragedy of Oerba and being in it and seeing the state it is in now of what was left after Fang and Vanille's sacrifice in the War of Transgression.
And I can't blame people for not seeing the tragedy in it. Cause the GAME doesn't even seem to really hammer home HOW DEVASTATING THE SIGHT OF THIS IS.
Oerba was Fang and Vanille's home. They had homes were multiple families lived, the worker ares and the rooftop garden where people would enjoy the view. The SCHOOL AND HOW THE FRONT YARD OF THAT BUILDING IS COVERED IN SMALL CIETH. THOSE WERE CHILDREN PEOPLE! THOSE WERE THE CHILDREN OF OERBA.
All the Cieth littering Oerba in the first game are literally the remnants of the people Fang and Vanille knew and loved. And it's like....God that's so devastatingly heartbreaking. I wish they banked in more on that.

been really interested in ff13 lately so i put my oc cal in there for funsies. this is so cringe but lore dump under cut
i'm basically doing plugsuit au but it happens in ff13. extremely quick primer for plugsuit au: cal is a mecha pilot living on his own for the first time and he's also a mess of a human who wants to die, it's not going well
-in this au cal's a warmech pilot with psicom, but crashes his mech near the vestige and is basically in the wrong place at the wrong time and gets branded by pulse with the rest of the group (who does not know he exists)
-he's basically in total shock, having first of all crashed his mech in a random location, has no clue what's going on with the purge, and is now suddenly branded a pulse l'cie himself, which is exactly what psicom is trying to kill
-they stumble upon him in his busted mech, obviously their initial reaction to a random psicom soldier is Not Friendly. he manages to save himself by describing the vision everyone had and showing the brand on his wrist. theyre like wow this guy is kind of a complete mess but obviously psicom is not going to take him back idk hes gotta end up in the plot somehow
-side note: one thing about cal is that he's spent a long time going "you know what i might as well just die" so when faced with what seems like an impossible situation, he will try exactly that. (this is something i struggle with in every au i put him in - if i put in him a crazy enough situation i have to figure out how to stop him from just immediately walking into the ocean and dying) anyways because of this, as soon as the shock wears off, he realizes he's completely screwed beyond measure, and basically gives up immediately and starts looking for a way out. l'cie brands move faster when a character is distressed, so i think cal having already given up from the start means his moves fast
-anyways when the party splits up, cal goes with lightning and hope, but the whole time he feels useless
-i think his role would be sentinel. more on that later since it's related to his eidolon, but his warmech means he's used to being on the defensive, and having very little regard for his own well being he's happy to take attacks all day
-i liked working on his eidolon - it appears when his brand reaches stage 5 (when the center eye starts to open). he panics and figures if he's going to die, he has to do it now, before risking turning cieth and becoming an even bigger threat to the party.
he manages to do a pretty good amount of damage to himself before everyone else notices what's up. healing magic basically keeps him from dying, but he's still physically and mentally not in good shape, and he's getting reamed out by lightning, who would expect better from another soldier
unfortunately, this is when his eidolon rocks up
i think its attack pattern is basically like - forcing him to actually fight for his life, and making him fight to protect the people around him. he thinks dying will make things easier for lightning and hope but it won't and i think the eidolon attacks tend to kind of point out what the protags need to do, in this case i think it's kind of pointing out that he needs to fight. it'll kill him if he really wants to die, but it's not going to make that easy for him
if he sits there and takes the attacks, his eidolon's attacks will be really physically painful but do very little damage. that could kill him eventually but it will take hours and hurt the entire time he's dying. which he's actually like... okay with so he kinda just lays on his back and takes it.
unfortunately if he goes long enough without fighting back, it starts targeting lightning and hope, and they have a limited ability to fight back - it's designed to be cal's fight. others can support and create openings but he has to land the blows. so he has to get up and fight, to show that he cares about keeping them safe too.
when he starts fighting back, the eidolon switches to attacks that hurt less physically but deal more damage, meaning he needs support - meaning he actually has to rely on lightning and hope to back him up. his eidolon is similar to his warmech so he has to point out information/weak spots to lightning and hope
when he finally defeats it and gets his crystal he probably has a whole sobbing fit, everyone is freaked out and uncomfortable, etc, also everyone is completely spent and they just go to bed. probably lightning wakes him up while hope is still sleeping to be like "hey you cannot do that again" kind of also chew him out a bit cal's like kind of scared now and basically resolves to at least try to survive to the end of the plotline. he's still basically looking for actual warranted reasons to put himself in harms way but like in a less noticeable way (so mostly in battle)
anyways i think this is why his main role would be sentinel - it seems unintuitive since cal's a bit frail honestly lol but he's happy to recklessly take a few blows, plus his eidolon is similar to a warmech - it keeps him safe and defended mostly, but to do any real damage, it has to unshield him/put him in a more vulnerable position
also im wondering if when the group gets back together, sazh/vanille/snow/fang start suspecting he might be up to no good, due to cal's PSICOM past and lightning and hope's kinda walking on eggshells around him at that point...

Why I still recommend Final Fantasy 13
As we all know FF13 was the black sheep of the Final Fantasy games. It had a different fighting system and was strangely more linear than its previously better-known games. However, this was more of the gamer's issue as when FFX and FFX-2 came out a lot of people said there were too many missable items and didn't like having to search everywhere for items or hidden scenes.
Years later Square Enix responded made FF13, and what were the gamer's responses. "We don't like it"
Now with FF games like 15 and 16 which are open-world people praise both for their own styles and stories. I'll be honest 15 was okay, the fact though that DLC kept coming out for the game and the story was lacking a bit for some of the characters, made me kinda miss the simpler ones. Now as for 16, I have not played it yet but I will differ from those who have that opinion.
As for FF14 which is an mmo its far different from the others but you get the opportunity to play with friends and actually go at your own pace.
But with all the games that have come out of the Final Fantasy franchise, I can say that everyone in the FF13 trilogy I remember and they have good characters. which I wanna talk a little bit about. (FYI this is where the spoilers now will appear. you've been warned. Also Very long Post just fyi)
Let's start off with of course the Queen
Tumblr media
Lightning aka Claire Farron. A Cocoon soldier who stays distant and strong for her sister after losing their parents, after years of becoming strong to protect her only family. She faces losing her sister Serah to become an eternal crystal or the insidious cieth. After everything she faces, they save Cocoon. She only had a moment with everyone and realized that she and Serah could have a chance at actual peace. She gets taken away from the dream to save a goddess and forced into the duty of a protector. And even after that, she stays strong, guiding Serah along the way to help her fight Caius even though everyone thinks she is dead.
But then Etro dies and she fails in her mission, overtaken with grief by not only the goddess dying and failing...her sister. The only person in her life that kept her from losing all of her hope. Dies. Everything she did in the first game...gone. And then after sleeping for 500 years she's given the chance by God to save Serah and the World. A sort of redemption if you think about it.
Tumblr media
Snow falls kinda under the same category but from a small different point of view. Snow was deeply in love with Serah and in the first game was trying to save her and Cocoon as well. Even though Etro caused Lightning to disappear he still tries to hold the fort and he got to have his peace with her afterward. But sadly he only gets to have that life for a year before FF13-2 starts, the love of his life goes on a mission he cant join. All the while he does his damn hardest to help Fnag and Vanille's pillar holding up Cocoon. And in doing so, willingly takes on the I'cie curse even after getting his brand removed in the first game. Once again everything in the first game almost not worth it (This is a reoccuring theme.), if not for Serah coming back. But then she dies and he can't fix, and he couldn't be there for her. His promise to be her hero is shattered. For 500 years he cares for the people and everyday misses Serah, blaming himself everyday for what happened and not keeping her safe. HE is basically the prime example of a suffering hero.
Tumblr media
Hope is kinda the odd one out, he is only a child, in the wrong place wrong time situation with his mother and him being brought into the Bodium purge. He loses his mother and goes on a verge to get revenge on Snow who he held responsible. But in a short amount of time when he stays with Lightning he learns from her that his innocent world is over, he is a fugitive, a I'cie and alone. But after she tells him about her past and facing the worst that life can offer, you grow from it. He even goes from taking up the rear to guarding her in the front, his fear fades throughout the entire game and he learns to grow up to be a fine young man in FF13-2. He even makes a new world for humanity in case Cocoon were to fall. He was their Hope, their hope for a world rid of monsters.
But in LR, we see that he has disappeared possibly having been kidnapped, remolded / torture back into young hope and made to spy on Lightning to fulfill her Savior duties. And can't speak his true thoughts, he is a fake. Even Lightning realizes though that the next world needs him, he even sees his parents who were long since dead he realizes that he gets the chance to have a proper life, Hope is the Symbol for all to have Hope and to Believe.
Tumblr media
Sazh suffers from the possibility of outliving his son. He is a widow and the only family left for him is his son who is quite young, and unfortunately at a young age his son is branded by the I'cie. Dajh basically only has a short time to be a child, until he either turns to crystal or a monster. Sazh loses him after being taken and fights to save him, but all the while he slowly loses his faith. He lost his wife and now his son, every moment he questions what they are doing. Only the prospect of saving Dajh keeps him going as well as his Chocobo chick. After saving Dajh though they get to live a normal life until the end of FF-13-2
For almost 500 years Dajh is in a coma like state and Sazh once again loses his faith thinking the only way Dajh can be saved is by doing it himself. When Lightning comes around though and helps reawaken Dajh, well so does Sazh. He regains his faith and even comes to the final moment of the game with everyone ready to welcome the new world with his son. He's the family man, kinda similar to Barret from FF7. But he is also the representation of a man going down the harder path to help those he loves.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Fang and Vanille fall under the same issue, Born to Gran Pulse and lived and had to sleep in immortal crystal to awake and find their home in ruins. The life they lived all gone and the only thing left of who they were is each other. Fang even takes on the torture to awaken Ragnarök. Doomed to bring about the end of Cocoon. But then their fate is changed and they were able to save instead of destroy.
In FF13-2 they are able to help Serah in her mission but they knew what she might have to face and with LR, they were torn about by both a sense of duty and a want to protect the other. Lightning finds out that they each wanted to help the other, however Vanille want for redemption at the cost of her own life to save the lost dead souls, thats what splits Fang away because she refuses to lose Vanille.
They can represent both family and lovers. One will not go on without the other, no matter what.
Tumblr media
And now for the princess, (not literally) but still i love Serah. Anyhow, Serah is the embodiment of Love, Faith and Hope. She goes through everything, turned into an enemy of Cocoon, turned into crystal, given the gift and/or curse of Etro, lost her fiancé to time travel for a bit, dies, has her soul taken out of Lightning where she was safe and then used as a bargaining chip by God to make Lightning keep to her role. But through everything, she still believed her sister and fiancé would save her, that she would be able to live her own life and teach children.
This girl fought and stepped up to every challenge but unlike lightning she shows her emotions, all the pain of failure and loss is understanding and that makes her into a connection for the player.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Okay so for times sake Im putting these three in one group since their stories are enveloped all together.
They are the last humans of a future timeline where the events of ff13 did not go well, Noel is basically the last human that ever existed and under Caius teaching and wing both of them protect Yeul who is a priestess of Etro forced to live again and again only to die after seeing the last of her visions into the future. Caius who knows some of the past Yeuls loved him, the last one loves Noel and he tries everything to save her. So whats his plan. Oh yeah, kill the goddess Etro to stop all natural death and the visions. Hence stopping Yeul from dying.
Noel guided by Lightning has to aid Serah to stop Caius and save the Future. After everything though, he fails by killing Caius not realizing that with his death he actually killed Etro (long story) watches Yeul die and Serah die. and after all of that is forced to watch the world and timeline for 500 years fall and crumble into a shell of the former grandeur that it was.
Yeul after dying, helps Lighting but in her now spirit like self she reveals a terrible truth that while Caius is alive no good will come. But while the Yeul we know wants Caius dead. (along with hundreds of other past selves.) Some of them also want Caius to live causing him to never truly die. To quote Caius "Even if one Yeul desires my salvation, another demands my rebirth."
Yeul is the symbol of mourning and regret but also wisdom in knowing that not all things will be bad, and that good things do eventually happen.
Caius is the symbol of inability to accept what happens and the cruelty of death. His immortality while at first would seem like a gift is a curse, he watching all those he love die and when the chance to die comes, it fails. He is stuck in an infinite life that is now out of his control.
Noel is the symbol of failure but also standing back up taking the next steps forward. After everything, with just the promise of seeing the person he loves again, even if only one more time. Gives him the strength to move on.
-
So if any of you can identify with even one of these characters I highly recommend you play the game. Trust me, me writing all of this down doesn't do the games justice. Its a lovely styled game that after some time you will get used to and its really not that hard of gameplay, watch a few videos and you will get the hang of it.
So anyways im not sure if i convinced any of you but enjoy your days and i send you off with a smiling lighting because its so rare and you all deserve one.

Ame Reviews: Obscurer Square Enix
Final Fantasy Type-0 HD
I'm not quite sure what I was expecting. I knew that the title had been intended to be attached to the Final Fantasy XIII universe (back before lackluster reviews of the main game - I get the feeling there was a very hasty scrub away of all plot references to leave Type-0 as a standalone game with only a few references hinting at it's origins, such as mentions of L'Cie and Cieth). I also knew it was originally a PSP game so I wasn't expecting the graphics to particularly wow me. I'm also pretty sure I knew that the cast were school-age, so I think I was expecting fantasy high-school hijinks and quests.
Tumblr media
I definitely wasn't expecting the first hour of the game to be a gritty warzone with minor fantasy elements movie - though given the Square Enix proclivity for starting out with a long cut scene, I should have expected that, at least. There is blood and at least two named character deaths - and they don't spare the chocobo, so if violence to animals upsets you, be warned. I didn't get a warning. It's also not a quick death. And that's the opening cutscene, just so we're absolutely clear.
Tumblr media
When the game actually allows you to play it, it's split between 'missions' - focused levels with particular objectives - and downtime - limited time between missions that you can use to trigger side plot events, restock, take lessons and train up.
The missions feel much like the missions in Final Fantasy VII Crisis Core - action-based combat on a small map with limited elements to interact with besides the enemy. Shows the PSP roots and I don't mind that - I knew going in - but if you were expecting a full PS4 game, you would be disappointed. The combat also takes a while to get used to - despite being real-time, it doesn't want you to smash buttons, more thoughtfully select your actions. Adding into that a full roster of 14 playable characters that you are encouraged to use and keep at similar levels to each other that all have different playstyles and customisation to them, there's a bit of a learning curve and if you're underleveled, you might be learning a new character at the worst possible time: when you've managed to kill all the characters you're actually good with.
Tumblr media
The downtime is where most of the interesting things really happen - character get development, world building elements get revealed and the quirky NPCs get a chance to make an appearance. I would have liked a few quality of life things - shops accessible through the menu instead of physically walking through areas to visit them (and there's at least three merchants on campus selling different things, all in different areas), sidequests/plot events having markers on the map to stop me scouring the whole school between every mission and being able to swap characters on the fly outside of missions (since some events can only be triggered by some characters and you need to visit a save point to swap between characters).
This is maybe only really one for the die-hard Final Fantasy fans, but it's got some annoyingly good bones. There's the wide cast of playable characters all with their own quirks and personalities - it kinda feels like being able to play a highschool simulator with Organisation XIII! And there's some interesting plot in there, though in recent Square Enix fashion, it's a bit obscured behind the myriad bits of required reading to understand. Also some of the actual dialogue writing feels very flimsy - with a large cast of characters to play with, it's understandable but unfortunate that some of them feel very thin.
World of Final Fantasy
My expectation for World of Final Fantasy was a cute little fluffy game aimed at kids. Babies first JRPG. Simple plot and mechanics with a cute varnish of Final Fantasy legacy characters.
Tumblr media
What I got was Pokémon meets Final Fantasy by way of Kingdom Hearts.
The combat is turn-based and features capturing and leveling and evolving (though it's called transfiguration) the normal staple Final Fantasy monsters (but now they are adorable as all hell) and stacking them up on one another (along with the protagonists Lann and Reynn). Stacking is simple to learn, difficult to master, as different creatures will add their stats, strengths and weaknesses to the stack, as well as affecting speed, stability and potential special skills. This was an amazingly refreshing way to approach turn based combat and it's actually annoying Square Enix haven't done anything similar since.
Tumblr media
In terms of Final Fantasy, I was expecting the usual crowd favourites - pretty much everyone from VII, Lightning, Squall, Tidus, Yuna...but I wasn't expecting them to pull from older titles. Bartz, Warrior of Light, Sarah and Eiko make plot appearances! Also more obscure characters get a look in, like Shelke from FFVII Dirge of Cerberus...which I was half convinced even Square Enix had forgotten about! I didn't even know where Shantoto or Sherlotta were from (FFXI and Crystal Chronicles) but their inclusion was an absolute delight and made me curious about their stories.
Tumblr media
For the Kingdom Hearts element... remember when you control Roxas in the beginning of Kingdom Hearts 2 and his Twilight Town is charming but something feels off and there's more going on than meets the eye? That's a lot of the plot in WOFF - Lann and Reynn wake up in their home town but all the people are gone. All except a mysterious woman who knows a lot more than she's telling anyone and starts the kids off on a magical adventure through Final Fantasy lands... except the plot just gets more twists from there and the kids realise they really don't know much about...anything.
Tumblr media
As for Lann and Reynn themselves: wonderful original characters, really think they nailed the sibling dynamic and they told such a powerful story about power, loss, grief, forgiveness and redemption that rekindled my hope that there is someone employed by Square Enix who knows how to present and tell a story effectively!
Tumblr media
I'd heartily recommend to anyone and I'm desperately hoping they make a sequel.

Yuki Kaji plays FFXIII (2)
SECOND HALF OF PART 1 GET READY
First half of part 1
Link to recording of stream
Hope + Vanille crash in the Pulse vestige. Kaji has fun calling out Hope’s lines in battle. He makes up a few too. He and Tan-chan laugh when the battle ends without any kind of finishing line from Hope. Kaji, in Hope’s voice, cries “I don’t say anything!” as Hope puts his boomerang away. Then, on Hope’s behalf, he exclaims “I did it!” so that the battle can end in a proper JRPG fashion. Tan-chan assures him that Hope does have finishing lines in other battles.
ROFL Vanille finds some potions and starts to run away and Kaji (in Hope’s voice) shouts “Please give me a potion too! Vaniiille! Also quit running so exuberantly!”
Another battle happens with no finishing line from Hope. Kaji and Tan-chan are amused. Kaji says, “Hey, be happier about this, Hope!”
When Lightning apologizes and gently asks Serah to open the door for her Kaji comments that she has a motherly air about her despite being so young.
He and Tan-chan laugh at Snow for exclaiming “Let’s go!” when nobody’s in his party lmao
ROFL Kaji and Tan-chan have the conversation that all ffxiii fans inevitably have about where Hope puts his boomerang after a battle. They remark that Vanille carries hers on her back but Hope’s in just…gone. Kaji’s all, “I mean, his pockets are big but…” 😂 😂 As they have this conversation Kaji has Vanille running circles around Hope to get a better look at both characters. At the end, Kaji, in Hope’s voice, concernedly intones, “Vanille, you’ve been running circles around me. Are you okay? Let’s hurry and get going.” *dead*
- After being branded –
LOLOLOL when the Cieth comes up behind Lightning while she’s railing on Snow for his optimism Kaji shouts “Light-san behind you!” in a high-pitched, mock-Hope voice. Hoping this trend continues because it’s precious and hilarious.
Part one of the stream ends off with the hot-mess brigade marching off to begin their trek through Lake Bresha. Kaji and Tan-chan remark on how Sazh feels much older than them despite them being 36 to his 40. (Agree. Sazh has old man energy.)
And that’s it for part 1! I’mma continue on to the next part so stay tuned for more highlights real soon 😙

                                                           lxiii.
Yes back to exploring more of the grotesque we call a sword. Now going over it numerous times there is this sustained belief that the properties of this weapon are akin to the bizarre, freakish nature of the Cieth; human beings, whose bodies are inhumanly twisted and enclose in vivid crystals. Their minds no longer envelope any high spectrum of logical or sympathy and perhaps driven by basic instinct we’ve developed since the race was young.  However despite sustaining serious blows from Lightning and the party. By no means did any serious cracks or fractures harm those mindless beings or impede their endless onslaught, Indeed, the blade, im speculate may contain rejuvenating properties similar to marine lifeforms; starfish, sea cucumbers.
Perhaps fractions of the blade may undergo severe weathering and the crystalline form is slowly alleviated by the housing crystal which is chaos Bahamut. I am certain Caius Bahamut, indeed, is accountable for the twisted, distorted form of the sword - perhaps by exposure to the malignant matter deemed as “Chaos” - its close association could have modified the object wherein most L’cie typical keep their Eidolith on their person.  There are very few instances were that structure and integrity of the material is doubted, mostly the phenomenon known as the crystal pillar- it manifested thousands of years ago, held the hollowed constructions of Coccoon preventing its evitable plummet into the earth.
One must consider various factors affecting the establishment of the structure involving the elements and its lethal temperatures. Being organic we could estimate may the blade not have truly reached its peak growth but despite incredible mass, its accrued over countless aeons. In its earlier form was probably nothing less than a crude steel sword, possibly fashioned by some expert blacksmith until properly treated. However, I’m his certain his time once he received accursed heart required him to store eidolith somewhere convenient. Now since chaos can warp the timeline, and large amounts could easily change a person or be destructive it is not highly impossible than the weapon has undergone radical changes. One thing I noticed in Lightning’s return never do you see Bahamut react or come forth to assist Lightning in any shape or form. In any case, it may remain dormant until its true owner utilizes the blade again.
