bugs molt internal organ lining??? how does that work; they don't have the same firm lining as a bug exterior, right? where does the lining like, go, does it get re absorbed into the body or shuttled into the excretory system or. my whole world is rocked by this rn

not like their entire digestive tract, but the upper parts of it, plus the lining of their spiracles (breathing tubes)—basically any part of the exoskeleton, including the parts where the exoskeleton goes inside the body (think of the inside of your mouth—it’s skin, more or less).

for the spiracles, it’s got to be pulled out, so every time you see cicada shells (the most easily spotted exuviae, in the NE USA) and you see the little white strings, that’s the lining of the tracheae. that’s another reason why molting is so dangerous: if it happens incorrectly then an arthropod cannot eat or cannot breathe.

This is the second item I bought from busker Francisco Joaquín Fernández in Chicago at the Begyle/ Dovetail Brewfest which I mentioned here.

This is a ten inch EP. This time around the band is comprised of Fernández and Tom Gatti with drummer Yves Ditsch on Side 2. Tom Gatti is a guitar playing producer who obviously produced this album.

Above you see the front and the back of the album. Below you can see the two shots of the white vinyl.

While shooting these photos outside I was visited by a friendly cicada. He checked out this album.

Believe me, the cicadas are everywhere in my backyard (and the neighborhood). And while we have hundreds of them, my friends who have a farm have thousands of them. I wish I had their photo of their tree for you cannot even see the bark it is so swarmed with cicadas. Cicadamania!

YEP! On cicadamania there's a page describing the periodical cicadas and it's like "they are NOT GREEN. the green ones are the ANNUAL CICADAS. the periodical cicadas are DIFFERENT. if I get sent another picture of a goddamn GREEN CICADA claiming it's Brood X I will SHIT."

Also fun fact iirc the genus name for the periodical cicadas, Magicicada, was given because they appear out of nowhere every 13/17 years...like magic. :D
