THE PARALLELS BETWEEN FIRE AND FLYING; RENEGADE KARMA FILES

I've been marinating in this entire route for like, a week now. It's driven me MAD. So I'm here to talk about it again. Spoilers below!!

Talon and Amber's deaths parallel each other so, so perfectly, especially if Florin is already been executed. I'm only going to be talking about that route, btw. So... If you don't know about it, here's a clip.

They are precise opposites of each other in their deaths.

Talon loses everything he ever had, and goes out accepting his own death.

Amber gains everything she ever wanted, and goes out fighting to the end for it.

For Talon? You see him throughout the karma files. He's been marked by karma to stop you. And things just keep going downhill.

He learns his best friend was executed. He learns his student is leaving him. He learns his mother is on her deathbed. And before he dies, his own tower is crumpling to the ground beneath him.

He loses everything. Used by a god to stop you.

He turns into a beast, and even that melts away. He's been used as nothing but a cruel toy to satiate the plot. He's lost it all.

And erasure's meant to be terrifying. Everyone forgets you. But he's lost it all anyways. So what does it matter? He has nothing left for him. It's sad, seeing him be erased by you. But he's made his peace with it.

He goes out smiling. It's pathetic, but it's his, and he's okay with it, as terrible as it is. It's his time to go.

He won't survive.

A necessary tragedy.

And onto his parallel: Amber.

You also see Amber several times throughout the route. Hanging out with her friend. Talking about her mom. They even added a scene where she goes out to dinner with you. Her sibling.

She never had that. She was alone for all her time on Terajuma. Her relationship with her mom was souring every day. She wanted friends, but pushed people away enough so that she couldn't make them.

She has that now. Venam and her investigate into you and have fun buddy moments. She's repairing things with Tesla, and she's even learned her dad is alive and around somewhere! She still has stuff to do here!

But when she gets in too deep into your ulterior motives with Venam, she's cut short entirely. She has everything she wants, and it gets ripped away from her.

But she fights for it. Her last move alive is pushing Venam aside to save her.

Because she has everything now. Friends. A place in the world.

But it's cut short. Erased by you.

Hell, her final words are even cut short.

Then she's erased. Gone. Her friends don't remember her, her mom doesn't remember her. She had so much left. She wasn't even marked for death.

An unnecessary tragedy.

Both Talon and Amber just didn't ever fit into the grand scheme of erasure. Get them out of the way now, I guess.

Talon's is inevitable. Amber's is preventable. But both get erased anyways.

Both are terrible. Complete opposites of each other. But both happen.

I prefer playing in survival mode unless I'm doing some specific huge build, but Aki prefers creative so when we play together it involves me puttering around and them occasionally stopping by to dump gifts on my head like some sort of whimsical god.

In this case I walked into my house to find my bed covered in cats. (all named after baseball players, except for the orange one, who is Beckham.)

Also building lighthouses, which is my thing.

Okay so I thought I’d share some of my theories for this season now with the benefit of having seen the first 3 episodes. This is just what I think based on the threads being pulled at so far. I think some of these have already been thrown out there so forgive me if I repeat something everyone is already guessing (��️CAUTION: campaign 1 spoilers for show only folks‼️)

There’s no way they’re nixing Glintshore and it’ll be the catalyst for Vex to admit she loves Percy (true love’s nat 20). I think they’ll do a similar thing to Vex’s death where we end one of the three episode releases with his death- leaving us waiting a week for the next episodes (and I know Laura is gonna fucking kill the voice acting for this scene) so I think it’ll happen either episode 6 or 9 (I’m guessing 6 so they can get Ripley out of the way to focus on Raishan)

I think the chroma conclave arc is ending this season and we’ll see a lot jam packed in episode 12 to set up the Vecna Whispered One arc (based on the opening credits with the siphon/portal being shown at the end)

I think we’re going to get The Bard’s Lament at the end of the season (ep 12 after Thordak) and the fact that Pike is the only one who has checked in on Scanlan about his daughter - and Scanlan’s anger at Vax (who technically knows that Scanlan has a daughter but has never followed up with him about this) and Vex (who’s been railroading him and his ideas most of the time) are going to be the biggest points of contention. Maybe we will get a Scanlan “what is my daughter’s name?” jab instead.

This is just fan service and something I just really want to see- but with the dynamic shake up between Vex and Vax being the ones pushing away the person they love, it would be so nice to have a scene with Percy and Keyleth mooning over/venting about the twins to pay homage to their friendship in C1 (let them be drunk besties together please!)

For vestiges, I think we’re not going to get Whisper at all (Vax having two vestiges in C1 was awesome but kinda OP imo and with the time constraint I think they’ll just leave Whisper out entirely)

This is a wild guess based on nothing really (just the talks of grief and facing fear being huge themes this season) but I think we’re gonna get the disintegrated Vax moment this season so we know for sure he’s on borrowed time. (it would be diabolical for Vex for it to happen so close to Percy’s death but I wouldn’t put it past them - they serve us pain on a platter and I say thank you every time) And since The Matron of Ravens has this ability to show Vax the future - we won’t necessarily need to know about The Whispered One threat to give reason for Vax to stay longer. I mean how angsty would it be to have them think Vax is going to die after they kill Thordak and then when he doesn’t, they learn about The Whispered One? (Oh it’d be so juicy but this theory is founded on nothing but my insane need to create the most pain possible this season in my head)

Anyway these are just theories from my unhinged mind.

Slowly coming back to Tumblr after a month break of nothing but random queued posts, so, uh, hi!

Dukexiety has me in a chokehold. So why not share some more random Dukexiety shenanigans?

Okay, so: Slime Rancher AU. Slime Rancher is this cute slime game where you're a rancher who ranches slimes. One of my favorite games, so now it's time to project.

Anyway: Remus and Virgil have separate Ranches. Remus' ranch is called the Silvera Ranch, and Virgil's ranch is called the Marcello Ranch. Named after their surnames.

Remus' specialty is mostly all the slimes that hurt you. Crystal slimes, Hunter slimes, Radiation slimes, Boom slimes, etc. He even has an Incinerator to house the Fire slimes. The only not-deadly slimes he has on his ranch are the Puddle slimes because they're fucking adorable and make cute sounds and live in a pond to help with on-hand water supply for the water tank attachment on the VacPak. He even has the full collection of the Slime Toys shop unlocked (from the 7Zee Rewards thing), and got a battery toy for his Radiation slimes. The Radiation slimes love it.

Virgil's specialty seems to be the slimes who are sensitive to light or who are pretty elusive. Like Quantum slimes, Phosphorus slimes, Hunter slimes, etc. He has the cave expansion to his ranch all decked-out. He's a bit anxious about spoiling food or running out of food, so all his farms are maxed out with all the stuff to make them grow faster or scare away stray slimes.

Virgil has his ranch & tech & VacPak set in the purple Chroma Pack of Kanpeki. Remus has the green Chroma Pack of Tomatillo.

When Remus and Virgil meet & realize they're both on the planet of the Far, Far Range, they found out their ranches are the closest to each other. And on a faraway alien planet, you learn to make fast friends with those closest to you in distance because it can get incredibly lonely. And so their friendship begins!

They'll visit each other's ranches from time to time and help each other out. Dealing with Mochi Miles & the Quicksilver slimes stresses Virgil out, so Remus helps with that. Remus has dangerous slimes, and while it's more his style and he has the energy for it, it can still get him hurt from time to time. Virgil doesn't mind helping him making sure the slimes are fed and keeping an eye on Remus' farms. They both help each other on adventures when traveling away from their ranches, they'll sometimes watch the other's ranch if one of them is going on a longer adventure, and they help each other with all the science stuff in the Laboratory.

After a long while of being close to one another, the occasional joint adventures, all that...well, they start realizing their feelings for each other aren't entirely platonic. But they're not romantic either.

Yep, it's time for: qpp Dukexiety!

They're not sure how to define they're feelings for each other, but 'love' is the wrong word. They care a lot about each other and are fond of each other. They joke around on adventures. They help with ranch chores. They sometimes the stay the night over at each other's ranches when it starts to get too dark and neither of them want to deal with the likelihood of Tarrs.

And they have no fucking clue how to tell each other.

They don't wanna ruin what good friendship they already have! So, neither of these dorks tell the other that they care about them in a different way than friendship. Of course, because I am cliché, it all gets confessed on a joint adventure. It's dark. They're miles away from either of their ranches. They're on their way back. They're running from feral slimes and Tarrs, and the adrenaline is coursing through them. Remus is trying to find one of the start teleporters that lay around the area they're in. Virgil is holding his hand as they run so they don't lose each other. Virgil's the one blasting Tarrs with his water tank attachment thing. A Tarr pops up and attacks Remus before he can react to it. It bites him but then Virgil IMMEDIATELY shoots it with water and it explodes into little Tart bits. Remus is stunned by Virgil saving him as Virgil pulls them quickly into a safer little cave to figure out where to go next to get back to a ranch.

And then Remus confesses that he's desperately attracted to Virgil in a queerplatonic way. Virgil dismisses as an effect of the adrenaline rush, and so Remus tells him they can talk about it when they get back and it'll be the same answer. They figure out that Virgil's ranch is closest so they finally find a fucking teleporter and go to Marcello Ranch.

Once at the Ranch, Virgil tends to Remus' Tarr bite so it doesn't get infected and they talk. Remus confesses again, like he said he would. He admits he's been feeling this way for a while but didn't wanna fuck up their friendship because Virgil's important to him and he's terrified of losing him. Virgil stares at him as he finishes bandaging Remus, and then hugs him tight. Remus hugs back. Virgil confesses he's felt the same (queerplatonic) towards him but didn't know how to articulate it and also doesn't want to lose Remus. They decide to enter a qpp partnership and figure it out together.

Somewhere down the road, they decide to combine their ranches and stuff. It becomes a chaotic home to many different slimes, a mess of green and purple everywhere, and they name it the Royal Storms Ranch. They pick a name that represents a piece of both of them: Royal for Remus' nickname "Dukey" and Storm for Virgil's affinity for thunderstorms.

And yadda yadda, happy ending, qpp Dukexiety wins!

With the announcement of S3 coming later this year, I thought I'd just put into the universe my predictions for how TLOVM S3 will work. I've already covered some of this before (see here for how A Bard's Lament has the same number of letters as there are episodes in a season), but now I'm in the mood to go into more detail.

My first thoughts were of what needed to fit into this season, namely, defeating the rest of the Conclave, vestige hunting, and individual character arcs. That's a LOT, but I think I've figured out how it COULD work.

Episodes 1-3 (Marquet / Glintshore)

Raishan has just revealed herself and needs to quickly gain VM's trust. She'll tell them Ripley was helping Umbrasyl with his vestige hunt and that she's gone to Marquet to track more down. This might be a good time for Percy and Keyleth to get some character development since Percy will be interested in taking Ripley out of the picture, and Keyleth will want to embrace R A G E for Raishan's involvement with Thordak destroying Pyrah.

Once they get to Marquet, Scanlan has the opportunity to reunite with Kaylie (since she and the troupe mentioned going there after Westrunn) and kick his character arc into overdrive. Scanlan will make his promise to Kaylie that he'll survive the crisis, and we'll probably get some J'mon Sa Ord and the Sandkehgs Hide scene.

Glintshore, the Anna Ripley fight, and Percy's death will happen in E3. This is simply because episode three has been chock full of depressing character moments for both S1 and S2 - so why shouldn't it also be the case for S3? It will also serve as a catalyst for Vex and Percy's official romance and potentially spook Keyleth and Vax into theirs as well. Scanlan will probably have a moment too, as he realises just how dangerous this quest will be. By the end of this batch, we'll have two (?) more vestiges with Whisper and Cabal's Ruin added to the roster.

Episodes 4-6 (Vorugal / Yenk / The Mansion)

The party will probably make a quick pit-stop in Whitestone where they'll find out the Conclave has expanded its efforts beyond Tal'Dorei, as Vorugal has demolished Draconia in Wildemount. Raishan will convince VM to go to Draconia with her to dispatch Vorugal. We might get more Exandrian lore to set up Wildemount for the M9 series as VM preps for the battle.

Scanlan received a key in the S2 finale that will likely come into play in E5 as either the key to his Magnificent Mansion or the Gate spell (both are iconic parts of the Vorugal plan). I'm leaning more towards the key belonging to the Mansion since they can rewrite the story to have Raishan cast Gate as a nod to how she freed Thordak. They'll summon Yenk so they can not only kill another dragon but also retrieve Keyleth's vestige. We'll get a really badass fight scene and character moments for a number of characters.

Considering how jam-packed the season will have been at this point, I wouldn't be surprised if E6 ends up being a cool-down 'filler' episode with character moments like Kima getting the Holy Avenger, the canon ball contest, and Percy and Vex's kiss in the woods.

Episodes 7-9 (Fire Plane / Earth Ashari (?) / Retaking Emon)

On the hunt for more vestiges, VM will probably head to the Fire Plane to recover the Plate of the Dawnmartyr with a cameo from Senokir. Still, aside from that, I don't know what the episode would consist of.

I also think this batch of episodes is a perfect place to slot in Keyleth's Earth Ashari trial, since it took place pre-stream and TLOVM seems to be hinting that Pyrah was her first trial. It would be really interesting to see how Keyleth's vision of her own death will be adapted considering how far into the Chroma Conclave arc it takes place. The trial would also give VM a chance to gather more forces for the coming battle.

Now, if the episode titles actually ended up spelling A BARD'S LAMENT, I would have absolutely named S3E9 'March to Emon'. This is where we get an Avengers Endgame-type moment of unity where all of VM's allies and the armies gather to take Emon back from Thordak. I'm thinking of appearances from Syngorn, the Ashari, Whitestone, maybe even J'mon Sa Ord sending some support their way.

Episodes 10-12 (Thordak / Raishan / Scanlan & Taryon (?))

We're in the final batch of episodes, and I feel like these are the simplest to lay out. It'll be boss battle after boss battle; the only question is how long each battle will take. Thordak will likely be kept to just E10, so that the show has ample time to handle the Raishan fight (since I tend to think of Raishan as the penultimate enemy from the Conclave).

Thordak dies, and in E11, the party battles Raishan in a brutal fight that does NOT kill Percy in the adaptation. I think him dying again would cheapen his death earlier in the season and take away from Scanlan's death in the same encounter. I really hope we get Travis breaking our hearts with "FIX HIM!" too. Now, I'd say the episode ends with VM taking Scanlan's body back to Whitestone.

In the season finale, Kaylie comes to Whitestone, and the party resurrects Scanlan. I think it'd be a unique change to the story (but not necessarily an unwelcome one) if VM was willing to just bury Scanlan, but Kaylie was the one who convinced them to try and bring him back. We get the absolutely gut-wrenching speech and his departure. The thing I'm wondering is whether TLOVM will simply end with Scanlan leaving and save Taryon's debut to S4, or if they'll introduce him in the final scene and leave us on a cliffhanger. My assumption is that the latter is the case since it's a very them thing to do.

With all that being said, I hope what I've written makes sense. It's been in my drafts for a good 6 months while I tried to piece together my theories, and I haven't exactly proofread it. Obviously, any number of things could end up being different, but this is just my take. I'd love to hear people's thoughts and theories that they've come up with themselves too!

Trying to paint with a limited stash of colours without doing colour studies = wasting paint

Figured out that Ultramarine Blue + White + Cadmium Red Light + Black + more ultramarine blue => gives me the duller shade of purple-y blue that I’m looking for… (to paint the colour of the cloth in my painting, which is not pictured here). Explanation for those colours: we need the use a pigment with a purple undertone, which would be Ultramarine Blue rather than Pthalo Blue (the latter has a green undertone, which would come through when adding other colours, creating something that is not purple). However, the cloth is a much duller colour than the paint in the tube, so we need to kill the vibrancy/lower the chroma, by using trace amounts of either opposing colours, or even black paint. That’s where Cadmium Red Light comes in; it is kind of orange-y, the opposing colour of blue. And to dull it even further, and make it a lighter value of purple-blue, I used black and white. I then ran out of that crafted colour, and tried to replicate that same colour because the cloth is a large part of my painting, but the second round of mixing made a colour that was TOO PURPLE and vibrant. My canvas looks mismatched and shortly after being unable to replicate the original colour I had made earlier, I decided to pack up and eat because I was hungry and had been painting for 2 ish hours during my break (i’m going to sleep soon, tired). Goodness gracious. I must’ve added too much Cadmium Red Light?? But then the pigment wouldn’t turn back to blue-purple rather than just purple-purple even when I tried to compensate with additional Ultramarine Blue… grrrrhhh?? Questions questions questions. …If anyone knows anything and wants to comment to help a stranger out, go right ahead & I will very much appreciate it! But also, don’t worry, I can ask my prof later anyway

To those wondering about why I mix paint to make certain shades rather than just buying the shade: // each tube of STUDENT GRADE oil paint costs $7-17 depending on which colour (and student grade means it is not even the quality that most artists like to use). so you can imagine why I have only bought 9 paints & must rely on colour mixing to create more colours. this isn’t including the cost of paint brushes, paint mediums (necessary for either spreading paint or drying it), palettes, canvas to paint on, stretcher bars and stretching materials, and an easel. (oil painting is so expensive it is craaaazy. very neat though because i’ve been falling asleep with images of colours in my head).
