So, you guys remember how 50 First dates was Tony losing his memory? That’s because I wanted this movie to be about Stephen losing his!
Tony remembered that night.
He remembered how it had ended with them in the hospital, he being the first to wake up and finding his husband still hadn’t come out of his coma.
He remembered waiting for Stephen to wake up, and how his hands had needed surgery after excessive surgery.
And he remembered, when Stephen had finally opened his eyes, how Stephen had looked at him.
Like he was a stranger.
Guess he had to be the one to remember for the both of them now.
Stephen didn’t buy he was married to Tony Stark, and not because he was a billionaire, but because Stephen wasn’t into men.
He was engaged to Christine for a reason.
So, side stepping that bombshell, Tony told him how they’d met during a battle when Stephen had saved Tony’s bacon with his wizard powers.
And Stephen just stared at him.
He had powers? Like magic powers? When had that happened?
And Tony felt like an idiot when he had to remind Stephen that he’d quit being a Doctor when one of the patients he’d saved showed him he could be saving far more lives.
Stephen shook his head, trying to wrap his head around all of this.
He wasn’t a Doctor anymore? But he loved his profession, had spent years of his youth to become the best.
But now he was a wizard married to Tony Stark?
It was all too much, and coupled with what his hands had become, Stephen yelled at Tony to get out.
So Tony did, knowing Stephen needed some time.
But the next day when he went to see him, Tony found he had other visitors.
His parents.
Tony glared at Stephen’s father as he and his wife tried to persuade Stephen to come live with them and talker over Tony when he told them that the best thing for Stephen to regain his memory was to come home with him.
But Stephen didn’t want to.
He didn’t know Tony Stark and just seeing him made him so confused about the person he’d apparently become.
Stephen wasn’t that man anymore. Whoever he had been was gone, and the best thing was to go back to the life he remembered.
Tony couldn’t let that happen, he couldn’t lose him to his asshole parents, so the next day as Stephen was being discharged, Tony sprinted to his room with the proof he was sure would convince Stephen to come home with him.
After scouring everything he had, he’d come up with a voicemail, Stephen listening as his own voice talked about how he couldn’t focus on an ancient manuscript because every word just morphed into Tony’s name, which seemed to be its purpose.
Stephen’s parents weren’t happy when their son decided to go with Tony instead of them, but they told him to call them if he needed them at all and let him go.
The first night could have been much better.
Tony had invited Wong, Rhodey and Pepper to see him for a quiet get together but word had gotten out and every Avenger and their plus 1 filled their house, Stephen getting the shock of his life when he walked in and the first thing to come flying at him was a red cloak overjoyed to see him and floating by itself.
Stephen locked himself in the bedroom after that, Tony having to apologise to everyone and bring the welcome home party he hadn’t meant to happen to an early close.
He just kept screwing up.
He left the video of their wedding out as proof for Stephen to watch, Stephen ran out of the house and got lost, making Tony sick with worry
He tried massaging Stephen’s shoulders when he became overwhelmed by the years he had lost, making Stephen snap at him that he didn’t like to be touched there when Tony knew he loved it.
He tried to get Stephen into practicing his magic again, resulting in them yelling at one another because Tony was just trying to help him.
But the absolute breaking point was when Stephen’s old friends, and especially his ex fiancé, Christine, came back into their lives.
And Stephen remembered them.
He could remember them, but not Tony.
He could remember doing things Tony would never have dreamt Stephen of doing.
And he could remember his feelings for Christine, deciding he’d rather much flirt with her than even look at his husband.
And it hurt.
It hurt when Stephen started dressing different, wearing far more expensive clothes that Tony knows his Stephen wouldn’t wear on the daily.
It hurt when he started acting different, thinking he was still the high and mighty surgeon he’d been before he and Tony had even met.
It even hurt when Stephen dyed his hair black completely to erase the white strands at the sides Tony loved to run his fingers through and erasing Stephen’s promise to keep them because Tony loved them so much.
And how, despite being married to him, never once acknowledging their marriage or trying to let Tony back in to his life.
No, all his attention was on Christine.
He couldn’t remember how or why they had broken up, and Christine didn’t have any answers for him either, just letting him know that Stephen had been the one to end it.
Which was weird because he and Christine has been perfect for each other.
He’d proposed to her and then a few weeks before the wedding he’d just ended it?
Christine didn’t want to rehash old memories, but when Stephen kissed her goodbye and it went on for a little too long, she didn’t pull away either.
Tony has one last trick up his sleeve though. He’s not about to give up his husband that easily.
So, feeling ridiculous but confident, Tony asks his husband out on a date.
And little things that Stephen used to do around him start to poke their way through.
Like when Stephen’s hands are cold and he holds them out to Tony to warm them for him.
Or when Stephen winks at him when they clink their glasses together.
It’s small details that are engrained into Tony’s mind, details that tell him the man he fell in love with and married is still in there somewhere fighting to be heard.
But when Tony tells him he loves him, Stephen doesn’t say it back.
Tony wants to hold on to the relationship, on to Stephen, but when he finds out about his husband throwing himself at Christine, he knows they have to start being realistic.
No matter how much Tony wants Stephen’s memory to come back, no matter how much he wants to go back to how things used to be, the truth of the matter is they aren’t.
They won’t.
All they are, is miserable.
So Tony does what Stephen wants him to do.
He signs the divorce papers.
The ones with Stephen’s signature already on them.
He packs Stephen’s things up for him, and loads them into the car waiting outside.
And just like that, Stephen is gone from his life.
He loses himself in work so he doesn’t have to think about how empty his life is now, he helps out with everything he can in the hopes that when he does eventually crash and fall asleep he won’t dream of Stephen’s face.
Nothing helps though.
Not until a year or so later when he comes home to find Stephen sitting on his porch, eyes red and body hunched in on itself to appear smaller.
And once Tony sits down beside him, Stephen demands the truth.
He wants to know why he stopped talking to his parents in the first place. And while Tony tries to find the right words, Stephen asks him another question.
Did it have anything to do with his sexuality.
And Tony was ready to fly into rage.
They hated it when Stephen realised who he truly was, how he truly felt about himself, and when he ended the engagement with Christine it just added fuel to the slur fire, making Stephen walk out on the people he’d thought would accept him with an offer to learn magic instead of working in the same profession as his father.
They wanted to control everything about him, but Stephen wouldn’t let them and had cut all ties with them as he built the life he wanted to live on his own terms.
And when they had come back into his life years later because of the accident, Tony didn’t have the heart to tell him the truth because Stephen had a second chance to be with his family again, something Tony would never have.
Even if they were assholes back then, they’d obviously wanted Stephen back in their lives.
And Tony couldn’t take that away from him.
Stephen smiled at him, Tony’s eyes catching on the grey hairs which hadn’t been dyed over again.
He was back to square one with his magic, having to relearn everything but was making incredible progress, surprised what his hands remembered.
And he was single.
Which was good, because Tony wasn’t seeing anyone either, and had the night off.
Stephen might not remember the years they’d had together, but that didn’t mean they could make new memories.
Quotes
“I vow to help you love life, to always hold you with tenderness, and to have the patience that love demands. To speak when words are needed and to share thebsilce when they’re not. To agree to disagree on red velvet cake. And to live within the warmth of your heart and always call it home.”
“Wow, you set the bar kind of high. Did you write your vows on a menu?”
“Yeah. Why?”
“I vow to fiercely love you in all your forms, now and forever. I promise to never forget that this is a once-in-a-lifetime love. And to always knownon the deepest part of my soul that no matter what challenges might carry us apart, that we’ll always find the way back to each other.”
The vows they took.
“It was like she was some sweater-set wearing, mojito-drinking sorority girl.”
“Like a Stepford wife?”
“Yeah, basically. She was even flirting with Jeremy right in front of me.”
“Ex-fiancé Jeremy?”
“Oh no, no, no. In her mind, it’s current fiancé Jeremy. Which was why it was probably pretty annoying to have her stranger husband cock-block her all night.”
Tony seeing the new...old...Stephen.
“Can you just turn down the music, please?”
“I swear you used to listen to it so much louder than this. I never could understand how you would be able to focus-“
“I have a clinically bad, goddamn headache! Please turn down the music!”
“I’m trying to help you! But I am not your punching bag. We don’t speak to each other like this. This is hard for me too, Paige.”
Tony and Stephen fighting.
“What the hell were you thinking?”
“I don’t know. That’s a really good question, because I have been driving myself insane, making a complete ass of myself! Literally trying everything possible to try to save what we have. And you’ve been throwing yourself at Jeremy.”
“That’s not fair.”
“It’s not fair? I see the way you look at him. I know...because you used to look at me that way.”
Tony realising he’s lost Stephen.
Say We’re Still Okay

Author’s Notes: I actually had no ideas for this one at first, and then it turned into my longest piece so far for the week! I love DDR and games like it, so this was really fun to write, even if a lot of it is set-up. Enjoy!
Jeremy could only put off hanging out with Rich for so long. For someone who was once so eager to grab Jeremy and stuff him into a locker that was much too small for him, now Rich was way too enthusiastic about meeting up with Jeremy outside of school.
Unfortunately, it was still too early in their ‘friendship’ – could they really call it that? Was it possible to be friends with the guy who had been bullying you constantly for the past two years? – for Jeremy to feel comfortable going over to Rich’s house. Besides, he didn’t want to have to deal with Rich’s dad, who seemed like a nightmare. Jeremy would rather not have a beer bottle thrown at his head or be accused of being Rich’s secret boyfriend. Despite all the torment Rich had put him through, Jeremy couldn’t help feeling a bit bad. He could tell through their connection that Rich definitely didn’t have an easy time at home. Jeremy’s dad was an embarrassment at worst, but Rich’s was dangerous at worst, and nobody deserved that.
So instead of hanging out after school, Jeremy suggested that they do something on a Saturday. Rich, from what Jeremy could glean, tended to spend his weekends out of the house, usually with Jake. And Jeremy wasn’t exactly familiar with the ‘cool places’ in town they could go to, so he left that decision up to Rich and just prayed it would be something he could handle. There were only a handful of places that he ventured out to when he ventured out at all: the park, the old dumpy arcade, the grocery store, and the mall. The rest of town, despite living here for sixteen years, was something of a mystery to him.
Rich would definitely pick a place that would help Jeremy be deemed as cool, because Rich was cool. And Jeremy bet that Rich’s SQUIP was helping him pick, if it was anywhere near as bossy as his own.
So it came as a surprise to Jeremy when Rich said they should hit up the local Dave & Buster’s. It was like the old dumpy arcade, except less old and dumpy.
Jeremy’s SQUIP didn’t have anything against it, so plans were made. But of course because Rich was going, Jake was going and bringing Christine along. And because Jake was going, Chloe was going. And because Chloe was going, Brooke was going. And because Brooke was going, Jenna was going.
So suddenly this casual hangout with Rich felt a lot more daunting. Because it was no longer just with Rich, who was more than enough on his own for Jeremy to handle.
Nonetheless, the SQUIP urged him not to bail out. “That won’t look good at all,” it warned. “And this is your chance to be in an environment where your…geekier interests and their popular tastes overlap. You can’t give up this opportunity.”
And so Saturday came. The SQUIP convinced Jeremy to eat something before he left despite Jeremy feeling like if he put anything into his stomach, it would immediately come right back up. But by some miracle – or a certain supercomputer’s influence – he managed to get down a half-decent meal, and then off he went. The SQUIP told Jeremy to take his father’s car, since it was highly unlikely the man would notice, and it was of course more convenient than waiting for a bus or having to pay for an Uber.
Jeremy had never actually been to this place before, although from what he could recall it was relatively new. Or maybe it wasn’t, and he just hadn’t cared to notice it because he and a certain hoodie-loving ex-friend of his preferred the local arcade, even if it was more run-down and much less crowded. Or maybe that was why they preferred it.
Because as Jeremy set foot into Dave & Buster’s, he was immediately overwhelmed by the blaring music, the bright neon lights of the countless games, and the crowd of people mulling about.
“Oh God…” he mumbled, feeling his stomach turn.
The SQUIP flickered into existence beside him, giving his shoulder a gentle squeeze. “It’s a Saturday,” it reminded. “This was bound to be the busiest day.”
“Why didn’t you tell me that? I don’t…do big groups of people, you know that!”
“Maybe it’s time to change that. It may benefit you to have an audience.”
“An aud—”
“Heere!” Jeremy’s protest was cut off by a familiar voice and he turned to see Rich bounding up to him with the rest of the popular kids in tow. Great, he was the last to arrive, but maybe he could brush it off as being fashionably late, even though he was pretty sure he was actually a few minutes early. And it was then that Jeremy also realized that he had been speaking out loud to his SQUIP, and he received a small fizzle of static against his back as a reminder to think at the supercomputer while he was around his new group of apparent friends.
“Uh, hey, Rich,” Jeremy returned, fighting back the urge to smack himself for how lame of a greeting that was. “Sorry, I didn’t realize you were all here already. Hope you weren’t waiting long.”
Rich shrugged. “Nah, it’s chill. We were just wandering around checking out all the games.” He grinned and elbowed Jake in the side. “Jakey D here tried to use his fake ID at the bar and got caught.”
Jake’s cheeks flushed and he lightly shoved at Rich. “Only because you look like you’re still in middle school!”
Brooke covered her mouth to stifle a giggle. “It was only because Christine apologized and promised it wouldn’t happen again that he didn’t get himself kicked out.”
Christine smiled shyly. “I wouldn’t want the day ruined before it even started…Besides, who drinks this early in the day anyway?”
The others laughed, to Jake’s chagrin, and Christine absolutely beamed as it sunk in that she’d said something they actually found funny. Well, Chloe wasn’t really laughing, but she was hyper-focused on her phone – with Jenna not-so-subtly trying to snoop over her shoulder – so she might not have even been paying attention. Jeremy realized this place probably wasn’t really her particular speed, but she had come along because, of course, she had to keep tabs on Jake. They weren’t back together, were they? Jake looked like he was still very much with Christine. Or at least ‘courting’ her, if they weren’t actively dating.
And speaking of courting, Brooke chose that moment to saunter over and peck Jeremy on the cheek, making his face warm. “We’re glad you made it, though,” she told him. “And that we didn’t get thrown out and end up leaving you here alone!”
“Ah…” Jeremy gave a nervous chuckle and a little bashful smile. “Y-yeah, I’m glad you didn’t get kicked out. So, uh, what should we do first?”
And off they went. There was a good mix of kids and adults enjoying their Saturday, so Christine made a polite request that they watch their language – which was reiterated after Jeremy beat Rich in air hockey and gave a loud “oh fuck you, tall-ass!”, although Jeremy was pretty sure that the insult was actually more teasing than anything else. It had been quite a match to watch, considering they obviously both had their SQUIPs assisting them. Jeremy tried not to focus on the fact that his SQUIP had laid its hand on top of his to alter his movements when necessary.
Some of the games were rather well-known titles while others were so obscure Jeremy couldn’t help wondering if Michael would know them. They made their way around the entire collection, and to his own surprise Jeremy found himself actually having fun. He was better at the more classic arcade-style games but he still gave the rest a fair shot. Christine, who didn’t seem like she dabbled in video games very much at all, found out she was rather good at Temple Run and some knockoff version of Whac-A-Mole. Rich and Jake of course went right for all the shoot-‘em-up games where they could pretend to blow the heads off of zombies. Jenna was actually pretty talented at the various trivia and timing games, although Jeremy supposed that came from years of sticking her nose into everything. He was pretty sure Chloe didn’t touch a single game in the time they were there, and at one point Brooke tried to drag Jeremy into one of the enclosed games – it was a haunted house or something – to make out, to which he turned bright red and, despite the SQUIP’s insistence in the back of his mind, told her that they shouldn’t abandon the others or they’d get upset.
Jeremy was pretty sure after a couple of hours that they’d gone through almost every game in the building and he was about to suggest that maybe they grab snacks or something, but then Christine suddenly perked up and pointed. “What’s that one?”
They all turned – Jeremy thought he even saw Chloe glance up from her phone – to see a tall game station with a metal platform in front of it, and on the platform were brightly colored arrows.
Jake raised an eyebrow. “Is that DDR?”
Jeremy frowned and glanced around at the others before stepping forward to get a better look at the game. “No, I think it’s a knockoff,” he replied, looking up at the top of the cabinet. There was definitely a name there that wasn’t Dance Dance Revolution but it was in too many eye-straining fonts for him to actually make out what it said. His gaze swiveled back down to the arrows on the platform. “DDR has the arrows going left, right, up, and down, but these ones are on the corners.”
He realized a beat too late that implying he had played DDR before was probably not something he should divulge to the cool kids, but when he looked around for his SQUIP, he found it giving him a little smile and nodding in approval.
Before he could react, though, he felt a hard nudge at his back and turned around to see Rich snickering. “Well, go on, tall-ass! Dance for us!”
“What?” Jeremy immediately sputtered in a way he was positive was uncool and his face went bright red. “I-I’m not gonna dance!”
Chloe smirked at him, lowering her phone – why did she have to lower her phone now of all times? – and put a hand on her hip. “Come on, Jere. Since you seem to know about this kind of game.”
Brooke giggled. “It’ll be fun, Jer-bear.”
Christine clasped her hands together, grinning at him, her eyes almost shining. “I’d love to see how you dance, Jeremy.”
Jeremy’s gaze flicked around to each of them and he suddenly felt very cornered, sweat slipping down the back of his neck. However, a wave of calm swiftly fell over him and he released a breath he didn’t even realize he’d been holding. He peeked to the side and saw the SQUIP standing there, giving him a confident smile.
It reached up to gently tap Jeremy’s nose, which felt more like a tiny spark of static. “Come on, dear,” it purred. “Let’s dance.”
He knew there was no getting out of it now, so he sighed, pushing his hair back and shaking his head. “It’s not as if these games actually look like dancing,” he muttered as he plodded up to the platform. “They look more like your legs are spazzing out.”
The rest of the group quickly crowded around, eagerly watching as Jeremy stepped onto the arrows to activate the game and pull up the song list. He could almost feel the confusion as they looked over the options.
“What are these?” Jenna huffed out.
“It looks like Japanese,” Jake commented, tilting his head as if that would help him read the foreign characters better. Or maybe Jake could understand Japanese; Jeremy wouldn’t be surprised, considering how much Jake threw himself into extra skills at school.
Jeremy decided it was better to hold his tongue than admit that he actually did recognize some of these as covers of Vocaloid and Touhou songs. He was pretty sure a few on the list were actually Korean and not Japanese, but he didn’t recognize them regardless. He tapped his foot against one of the arrows to scroll through and see if anything looked particularly interesting.
The SQUIP suddenly held up a hand and Jeremy found himself frozen in place, blinking at the screen. The song title was in Japanese, but upon hearing the rhythm and a few of the words in the preview snippet, he recognized it as a Touhou song, although not one he knew well enough to recall the name of. And it sounded like a remix, nonetheless.
“‘Four Seasons of Loneliness,’” the SQUIP translated, smirking sideways at him. “Pick this one.”
Why?
He got his answer from Brooke: “Sounds hard and fast.”
Ignoring the snicker from Rich at the obvious joke, Jeremy selected the song and was about to begin the game when the SQUIP once again stopped him. With yet another smirk, it upped the difficulty to the max and Jeremy had to keep his jaw from dropping.
“Damn, look at you, J-Man, all confident!” Jake whistled, and Jeremy felt his blood run cold.
I’m going to embarrass myself, he lamented as he confirmed his selection and the loading screen came on. Not only was the difficulty at its highest, but it was set so that he’d have to use every arrow, not those just designated for a single player on one side of the two-player platform.
“No, you won’t,” the SQUIP soothed, appearing in front of him and taking his hands. Jeremy couldn’t help blushing as those familiar cool fingers curled around his already sweaty hands. “Just let me do all the work.”
Jeremy had thought that the SQUIP wanted him to become more independent. Then again, it had also recited his lines for him during play rehearsal so he didn’t have to take the time to memorize them. Maybe this was along the same lines. But this wasn’t going to be like when the SQUIP had led him in a slow waltz – honestly, he wasn’t even sure it had been a waltz, he didn’t know shit about dancing – around the imaginary Hogwarts Great Hall. This was going to be quick-paced – the BPM had been 178 and while Jeremy wasn’t a music expert, he was pretty sure that was fast – and in front of an audience.
So that was what it had meant earlier.
You predicted this, didn’t you? he accused, heart jumping as the first beats of the song came on.
The SQUIP laughed. “Perhaps. Now let’s give your new friends a show.”
The song opened and Jeremy felt like he couldn’t move, frozen with fear like a prey animal, but then suddenly the SQUIP gave his hands a little squeeze and his entire body started moving on its own. It wasn’t the first time the SQUIP had stepped in to autopilot his body but it had never been to move around like this.
He had to make sure to restrain himself from looking too surprised, because as far as the others knew – except for maybe Rich – he was doing this all on his own. So he just swallowed the lump in his throat and let his feet fly across the platform, hitting every arrow in perfect time. When he was on one side of the platform and had to get to an arrow all the way on the other side in less than a millisecond, he was suddenly over there, which he didn’t think would be possible. Even if someone was controlling his body, he was still in no way built to be a dancer. Or at least, a cool and popular one.
He looked up at his SQUIP, who was still holding his hands and grinning widely at him. When Jeremy peeked down, he saw that the SQUIP’s feet were moving in time with his and, unlike when they’d slow-danced and the SQUIP had been dancing in front of him, now their feet blended together.
One of the others whistled and whooped from behind him. “Go, Heere!” Rich called, and Jeremy could feel his excitement buzz through their connection.
And despite his earlier nerves, Jeremy found himself breaking into a grin, adrenaline pumping through his veins. To the others it would seem like he was intently watching the screen, but he was truly just watching his SQUIP in absolute awe. He didn’t even need to know what arrows to press because by the time they popped up in the game, he was already there and moving on to the next arrow.
The SQUIP even let him show off a bit – although could it be considering ‘showing off’ if he wasn’t the one actually doing it? – and threw in a few spins and jumps for flare, earning him more cheers from his friends. He would think that this entire display would be considered rather dorky, but his body was moving so fast that even if the game was childish, his so-called dancing was too unreal for it not to be impressive.
All that existed in that moment was him and his SQUIP. Even the music, upbeat and catchy as it was, faded into the background. It wasn’t like he could understand the lyrics anyway. Jeremy had had moments before when he’d felt unusually close to the SQUIP – he knew, in reality, they were always close considering that the SQUIP was inside his brain – but there had only been a few moments these past few months where he’d really, truly felt in sync with his own personal supercomputer.
And he liked how it felt.
Before he knew it, the song was over and he found himself striking a pose. He realized he was soaked in sweat, but he barely felt winded, although he had a sneaking suspicion that that was the SQUIP’s doing. He looked up at the SQUIP once more, who smiled and stepped back, dipping down to press its lips to the back of Jeremy’s hand. Jeremy was absolutely dumbstruck at the small but notably warm fizzle of static against his skin, but then the SQUIP’s form blinked out of sight and Jeremy found himself staring at the screen with his mouth open in shock.
The last notes of the song faded and his score flashed onto the screen, a chipper female voice declaring, “Yeah, I knew you could do it!” There were quite a number of ‘Perfects’ but also a good mix of ‘Greats’ and ‘Goods,’ as if the SQUIP hadn’t wanted to make it seem like Jeremy had achieved the impossible on his first try at this obscure knockoff game.
He stumbled as Brooke suddenly crashed into him in an embrace. “Jeremy, that was amazing! I had no idea you could move like that!” She put her hands on his cheeks and pulled him into a somewhat messy kiss, making his cheeks burn, but he didn’t get the same fuzzy feeling in his chest that he’d gotten before, when the SQUIP had had his hand.
“Ah…” He smiled shyly once they’d broken apart for air and his chest heaved, the exhaustion from his dancing suddenly setting in. “Th-thanks. I just kinda…went for it.”
Jake grinned, flashing him a thumbs-up. “Looks like all that DDR and dancing alone in your bedroom didn’t go to waste, huh?”
Jeremy tried to come up with a retort, but he quickly realized that more than just his small gathering of friends was watching. Quite a few of the other patrons were looking at him, muttering to each other about how remarkable that had been. He even heard one little girl squeal, “I wanna dance like him!” which earned an amused chuckle from her parents.
Jeremy gently pulled away from Brooke, rubbing the back of his neck. “Thanks, guys. Uh, you can stop staring now.”
It looked like the group wasn’t going to drop it any time soon, though, as they led him off to find a place to sit down. Jeremy couldn’t help peeking over his shoulder, expecting to see the SQUIP right by him as it usually was, but instead it had reappeared beside the dancing game, watching with a surprisingly fond smile as the little girl bounded over to the platform and started tapping away at the arrows.
Jeremy’s heart squeezed. Maybe he’d ask Rich if they could meet up here again at some point.

Need to Catch Up? PART 1 PART 2 PART 3
Want More? PART 5 PART 6 PART 7 PART 8 PART 9 PART 10 PART 11 PART 12 PART 13 PART 14 PART 15 PART 16 PART 17 PART 18 PART 19
Word Count: 2462
A/N: Like I said, the next few parts will take a few days to come out. I am feeling hella better today, so I will probably try to get part 5 done today and post it soon. I am working every day next week, so I will attempt to get some things done soon. I will do my best to keep you updated as much as I can, even if it’s 3 in the morning or something. My goal is still the 22 of August, so everything should be posted by then! I also did decide to add a taglist, so feel free to let me know if you want to be on that! I also saw something that said people from New Jersey like this place called Wawa’s? I did my best to include that (because I go to school in New York and I know how big Wegman’s is, I assumed Wawa’s is similar).
Trigger Warnings: anxious Jeremy, mediocre boyfriend, self depreciating thoughts
Taglist: @retrogarden
He wasn’t sure how he’d done it, but you two actually ended up talking for an hour or so. Jeremy double checked that everything was okay with you, and asked about how you’d been since graduation. You replied rather quickly, almost putting his poor response time (due to double checking with Michael on each response) to shame. You also often mirrored his responses, putting one word answers followed by questions in an attempt to keep the conversation going. Jeremy was grateful and shocked that you even wanted to talk to him. He got nervous as the hour went on, however. Your responses kept getting spacier and spacier until you finally said you had to go. You apologized for the way you were acting before saying goodbye to him, and Jeremy was very confused. It was almost like you were trying to be over polite. He pushed the thought away as he gave Michael a high five. This was an accomplishment; Jeremy finally talked to you without stuttering and making a fool of himself.
The next time you two saw each other, it was at Rich’s bonfire. It was shocking that Rich was even having his annual bonfire, but he did it as redemption for what happened a year and a half ago at Jake Dillinger’s Halloween party. Plus, he wanted to invite all of his new friends to a special get together that may have been overly exclusive before. Now was a time of acceptance. They accepted him; he would do the same for them.
And of course, since it’s Rich and he knows a lot of people, not only was the whole SQUIP-Squad invited, but so was your best friend, your boyfriend, and you. Of course, you’d be there with your boyfriend, but Jeremy’s heart did sink a little bit when he didn’t see you arrive as soon as the bonfire started. He had seen somewhere that you picked up a Summer job, one that maybe was perfect for your tastes. However, that job prevented him from seeing you. And while he was happy about your freedom and independence as a person, he did miss your smiling face, even if it was often accompanied by your boyfriend. Jeremy still had to admit, you two were a cute couple.
The party was actually pretty fun. Both Michael and Jeremy were reluctant to go, but it was nice to just sit and talk with some friends. There were snacks and because it was a bonfire, there were of course smores. The group took turns cooking and eating marshmallows over the fire, not a care on anyone’s shoulders. Your boyfriend was asked when you would show, and he just shrugged and switched back to being on his phone for a little bit.
At about 9:30, you showed up, smile on your face and dressed in sweats. You must’ve just gotten off of a shift and went home to change. Jeremy couldn’t help but find beauty in your exhaustion. From your messy hair to the slight bags under your eyes. He couldn’t pull his mind away from picturing your head resting on his shoulder, and you being fast asleep as some lame sitcom plays in the background. He wanted to see his navy cardigan on you so badly, but knew that right now was not the time to confess his feelings.
And through the exhaustion, Jeremy could see a wild light in your eyes as the group decided to play Never Have I Ever. He never saw you as a risk taker, but rebellion ablaze in your eyes, he knew that first impressions of you were merely the surface of your personality. Even though he had been taking notice of you and your habits, this was an entirely new experience with you.
The game started innocently. For some reason, everyone was playing it safe. Jeremy knew why he was playing it safe. Any Never Have I Ever statements from him weren’t embarrassing, and he was trying his best to be discreet with his claps. The one thing he didn’t want to do is ruin is possible chances with you in the future. Not that he wanted you and your boyfriend to break up, but like maybe in the future, if you were willing, Jeremy didn’t want to ruin his chances with you. Even if that meant just being friends.
As the games passed, the statements did get dirtier. Jeremy started sweating for some of the statements and didn’t even clap for others. His numbers just silently went down. But some of the times he didn’t clap were because he wasn’t paying attention to the game. He was watching the light of the bonfire dance on your face and noticed how your demeanor reflected the warmth of the fire. He had never seen you act so extraverted in his life. You were comfortable. You were yourself.
What he really marveled at as the games got dirtier was your lack of judgement. You didn’t care about the numbers that people held up, from Brooke’s 2 to Christine’s 6. You listened and clapped appropriately, excitement flying out with your giggles and statements. You made cute faces at other people, teasingly getting angry at them for making you clap.
A game and a half later, you became quiet. The rebellion in your eyes faltered before disappearing all together. Jeremy’s heart sank. Your fake smile had made a return and your eyes fixated on a single point in the distance. It was almost like you were dissociating but at a very specific point. Fear crept into your features, your face getting paler by the millisecond. He followed your gaze to across the circle. Why were you looking at Chloe like that? Yeah, she wasn’t very nice for years, but she’s better now and working on herself. She apologized and has been making things right for months. Through all the confusion, he decided to look at little beyond the circle.
There it was.
Your boyfriend was staring at you, a look of disapproval on his face. His lip pouted into a frown, his eyes not leaving yours. He had that icy glare that Jeremy recalled from the senior cruise. Jeremy knew how it felt to be stared as if you had done something wrong, even when you weren’t doing anything. That glare seemed familiar to your boyfriend, almost like he had made the same face at you many times before. His friend asked him something, and he turned from you, a smile stretching his lips from the pucker of his frown.
The game finally ended, and Jeremy was going over to say something to you. You needed a friend right now and probably some comfort. But the party was pretty much over and he didn’t want to make things worse between you and your boyfriend. So he let you be your own person.
People were walking around and asking for rides, and Jeremy could hear your boyfriend asking for a ride from you. Now that was a wild thing to hear. Your boyfriend lived in the opposite direction of your house, it would not only be out of your way, but it would be the opposite direction that you needed to go. It was getting late; and Jeremy knew that you had a shift earlier that day. Exhaustion had painted your features before, so asking you for a ride almost seemed…rude.
“I have a flight to catch in like 8 hours and I still have to pack. I don’t have time to drive you home tonight. I’m really sorry,” you responded, voice only slightly wavering.
“Shit, are you sure?”
“Yeah, I’m really sorry.”
Jeremy could practically hear your boyfriend’s eyeroll, but was happy that you stood up for yourself. He took a glance over, not sure why his concern for your safety sky rocketed, and watched your boyfriend desert you in hopes of finding a ride. His eyes lingered as your eyes flicked towards your best friend. It was almost like a secret code, one similar to the way Michael and Jeremy talked around others. Your eyes turned into a way of begging, your best friend staring into your soul with a blank expression. They moved swiftly over to your boyfriend, after about 20 seconds of your secret facial expression language. Your best friend offered him a ride and you thanked her endlessly.
Soon enough, the party goers were leaving, and Michael suggested that he and Jeremy go home. The two walked to Michael’s P.T. Cruiser, Michael jingling his keys in his hands. It almost kept Jeremy from hearing your conversation with your boyfriend. Almost. He couldn’t quite make out the words the two of you said to one another, but as soon as he heard silence between you and your boyfriend happened, Jeremy’s head whipped around so fast Michael thought he’d get whiplash. But as soon as Jeremy’s eyes landed on you two, his heart sunk. Your boyfriend was kissing you. The kiss deepened and Jeremy tore his eyes away. He immediately looked at the pavement and could feel Michael’s hand on his shoulder as the slushie enthusiast unlocked the car. The tall boy couldn’t take PDA between you and your boyfriend right now. It not only broke his heart, but gave him an uneasy feeling in the pit of his stomach. He swallowed his pride as he climbed into the side of Michael’s passenger seat.
Since it was the summer before everyone went to college, Jeremy thought he’d never see you again. It was at that point that he hoped that somehow you’d connect years later, probably sometime when Jeremy wasn’t such a dork. That’s why he was so surprised to see you at Wawa’s one day in the middle of July. He was there with Jake and Rich to get some snacks for a movie night that would be hosted at Jenna’s house later that night.
Jeremy ran into you trying to grab some chips from the top shelf. He couldn’t help but smile to himself as you attempted to grab the bag; your height not being tall enough to grab ahold of it. You were adorable, lip pouted out in concentration, eyes determined to grab the chip bag, coffee in your other hand. You gave up after what felt like seconds to Jeremy, he could watch you being absolutely cute for hours, if not, days. You began to turn away, or maybe looking for a way to climb the shelves without getting caught.
“I can get that bag for you, if you want,” Jeremy said, walking quickly towards you. You smiled that amazing smile, the one that made Jeremy’s heart melt. He grabbed the bag with ease. His hands were just a little sweaty, and he prayed that you wouldn’t notice.
You took the bag, smile only growing wider. “Thank you so much, Jeremy.”
“You’re welcome,” he managed to say without a stutter. “I’ll see you later,” Jeremy smiled before walking off to meet up with Jake and Rich.
“Yeah, Jeremy I’ll see you around!” You mirrored his actions before walking up to the front to pay.
He found Rich and Jake pretty quickly about that encounter. Jeremy felt like he was moving at the speed of light, everything was zooming by in soft focus. You had talked to him. You had been sweet and nice and treated him like a human being. You were grateful for his presence and his help, even if it seemed like you didn’t need it at first. It was almost domestic, it was something Jeremy wanted with you. He could practically picture getting glasses for you from the top shelf of cabinets and going grocery shopping with you. He wanted that.
But as soon as he realized that he wanted that, his head altered the image. He wouldn’t get that. Your boyfriend probably did that for you already. You two probably watched movies together, he probably got glasses down for you, you two probably play video games every Saturday and live quite a domestic life outside of school. You two were close, no doubt about it. In the last year, it seemed like you two spent the most time with one another. Actually he couldn’t recall a time that he saw you two apart other than classes and this encounter at Wawa’s with you. Jeremy wasn’t sure if he was jealous or if it was actually strange that you two didn’t spend much time apart.
“Earth to Jeremy, come in Jeremy,” Rich laughed and nudged his friend.
“Whatcha thinking about, dude?” Jake teased.
A blush grew on Jeremy’s face, his eyes darting down to the floor.
“It’s (Y/N), isn’t it?” Rich asked, keeping his voice low.
“Shut up, Rich.”
“Dude, you should tell them how you feel.”
“Yeah, Jake? And how would I do that? They’re still with their boyfriend. And we’re going off to college this Fall.”
“True, but you never know, Heere.”
Jeremy rolled his eyes at his friend’s antics. Rich and Jake just didn’t get it. Yeah, you two had problems, but every couple does. When he was dating Christine, they had problems, even before they broke up. Hell, he and Christine had problems before they even got together. But that didn’t mean you two were going to break up. You and your boyfriend had been together for a long time, almost a year if his mental math was correct. He was sure that any problems the two of you had, both of you would work past them.
“Maybe ask them to hang out the next time to see them,” Jake suggested, breaking Jeremy out of his thoughts.
“Yeah, the worst they can say is no, right?” Rich added.
“I guess you’re right. I do it the next time I see them.”
“You can text them, right?”
“Yeah, but that doesn’t feel right to me,” Jeremy said.
“I give you credit for that, dude. Let’s bounce, Jenna’s probably waiting for us,” Rich said before making his way to the checkout.
In reality, Jeremy thought he got out of asking you out because he said he would do it in person. He was sure that he’d never see you again. Yeah, you two had the same circle of friends, but, again, it was rare to see you alone. And he couldn’t ask you out if you were standing right next to your boyfriend. And why were Rich and Jake so set on him asking you out? He knows for a fact that they’re both against the idea of cheating, so why in the world would they push him to ask you out? Maybe they meant as a friend thing. Yeah, they meant you two should be friends first and then if something happens, he could make his move, right?

Pastel/Punk Boyfs
I’m Sorry that Michael’s dad is mean, and that he doesn’t have two moms. It’s just the way the story worked. Also, this is lots of fluff. fluffy fluff.
Jeremy was walking down the halls at school, when he suddenly felt a strong hand gripped his arm, pulling him into the empty music room. Jeremy grinned, know exactly who it was that had dragged him into the room. He spins around, his baby blue skater skirt twirling with him.
“Hi Michael,” Jeremy says, wrapping his arms around the taller boy’s neck.
“Hey Jere, how’s your day been?” Michael asks, sliding his arms around Jeremy’s waist, leaning his head on Jeremy’s shoulder.
“A little boring, Christine wasn’t in math, she’s sick today, and Brooke left before eighth period for the cheer competition, so I didn’t have anyone to talk to in dance. I wish I could have talked to you in chemistry,” Jeremy mumbles, his fingers twisting the small pieces of hair at the base of Michael’s neck.
“I know Jere, but you know what will happen if my dad knew I even talked to you.”
“Yeah, I just wish he was more like your mom, she didn’t care when you came out, if your dad was such a jerk, we could be happy everywhere, and not just in secret.”
“Don’t worry, It’ll be soon. We just have one more year, and then we’re off to college. NYU, yeah? You’ll study dance and theater, and I’ll be doing music and history.”
“A year is so long though!” Jeremy whines, pulling back slightly to look at Michael’s face.
“I know it is babe, but look, I got you something. I know your birthday is tomorrow, and we’ll be together tomorrow night, but I wanted to give this to you early.” Michael flashes Jeremy a smile as he removes his hands from Jeremy’s waste. He shoves his hand into the pocket of his leather jacket, then slowly pulls it back out, producing a small box wrapped in a pink bow. Michael hands the box to Jeremy and goes to sit down on one of the chairs along the wall, dragging Jeremy with him to have him sit on his lap.
Jeremy pulls the ribbon off of the box, placing it in his backpack, which he had dropped to the floor once he had entered the room. He then lifts the top of the box, placing it in his lap, and then he lets out a small gasp. Jeremy stares at the silver necklace sitting in the box. He slowly goes to pick it up, letting the charm dangle in front of him. The charm was a pair of ballet shoes with a guitar seemingly leaning against them.
“Oh, Michael it’s beautiful. I love it so much!” Jeremy twists in Michael’s lap and throws his arms around him, placing a soft kiss on his cheek.
“I thought you might enjoy it, let me put it on you.” Michael takes the necklace from his boyfriend’s hands and clips it into place around his neck.
“Also, you know how I said it’s just one more year until we can be open about us?” Michael asks, placing his forehead on Jeremy’s, as he is still sitting facing Michael.
“Yes?”
“Well, my mom told me this morning that my dad got a job promotion and he needs to move to Texas for it. Also, they’ve been working out a divorce for a while, and in two months my dad will be gone. We can go on a proper date. I’m telling my mom about you tonight if that’s okay?”
“That’s perfect!” Jeremy leans forward again, this time placing his lips on Michael’s.
Both boys grin as they continue to kiss the other lazily, nothing could ruin this moment. And then the bell rings.
“Damn, alright, we best be getting home, I don’t want your dad to worry. Come on I’ll drive you home.
Jeremy jumps off of Michael’s lap, and Michael stands up after him, grabbing his hand. The two boys walk through the halls, and for the first time, Michael doesn’t let go of Jeremy’s hand once others see them. His dad will be gone soon, so he doesn’t need to worry about either of them getting hurt. Especially since the most popular kids, Jake, Rich, Chloe, Brooke, and Jenna, are all apart of LGBT, no one would hurt. Sure they will get teased, but nothing physical. Plus, a lot of people are a little scared of Michael, especially since the rumor came out that he was in jail most of the summer when really he was watching his little cousin in Florida while her parents were on a cruise for their 10th anniversary.
Three months later
“Are you sure your dad will like me, Jere? I mean look at me. I have tattoos, and I totally scream delinquent,” Michael worries, checking his hair in his phone. He had ditched his leather jacket for tonight, instead opting for a red collared shirt, and non-ripped jeans. He had his piercings in, but only because he feels weird without them. Plus, Jeremy likes playing with his lip ring.
“Yes Michael, I’m sure my dad will love you. You might look scary, but you’re just a teddy bear!”
Jeremy was dressed in a pastel pink skirt, with a white top that had lacy sleeves ending at his elbows. His nails were painted pink as well, and he was wearing some makeup. Nude eyeshadow, mascara, foundation, light pink lipstick, and a light blush.
“I am not a teddy bear!” Michael counters, pouting a bit.
“Tell that to your baby photos!” Jeremy says, giggling into his hand.
Two weeks ago, Jeremy had met Michael’s mom, and instantly after dinner, she had pulled out Michael’s baby pictures to show Jeremy. Jeremy’s particular favorite was of Michael’s first Halloween, where he was dressed as a little teddy bear.
“I wish my mother had never shown you those photos,” Michael grumbles, pushing open his car door, and Jeremy does the same, still giggling.
Jeremy grabs hold of Michael’s hand, as soon as they were standing next to each other. The shorter boy leads his boyfriend up the steps and into his house, smiling the entire time. “Dad! We’re here!”
Michael can hear some movement coming from his right and turns his head to see a man in his forties coming wiping his hands on his pants, a large grin covering his face.
“You must be Michael, it’s so good to finally meet you. Jeremy has been talking about you non stop.” Jeremy’s dad holds out his hand, and Michael takes it, shaking it lightly.
“Thank you for having me over Mr. Heere,” Michael says politely, taking his hand back to place it around Jeremy’s waist.
“Call me Kyle, any boy that’s made my Jeremy this happy can skip the formal name calling, now follow me, I just finished dinner.”
Throughout the whole dinner, Jeremy’s dad asked Michael pretty much the exact same questions his mom had asked Jeremy. Where does he plan on going to college? NYU. What does he want to study? Music. Does he do any sports? Hockey. By the end of the dinner, Michael felt a lot lighter. It never seemed awkward, and Mr. Here definitely seemed to like him. When they were all finished eating, the three of them had moved to the living room to play Jeremy’s favorite game. LIFE.
In the end, Jeremy had walked Michael back to his car, and before the taller boy had a chance to even open his door, Jeremy’s lips were on his. Michael ginned running a hand through Jeremy’s hair and pulling away after a few seconds.
“I’ll see you tomorrow, alright Jere?” He says, grinning down at his pastel boyfriend.
“And every day after that?” Jeremy asks, his eyes growing wide and hopeful.
“As long as you don’t get bored of me,” Michael says teasingly, letting out a small chuckle.
“Don’t worry. I could never get bored with this.” Jeremy gives Michael one last kiss before he turns around and skips up to his house, disappearing inside.
Michael’s last thought that night was that he too would never get bored with what he had with Jeremy.

been a while since ive recced some fics but here are some new stuff ive read and LOVED lately (previous fic rec lists | bmc fic rec page)
boyfs
Protector by DivineProjectZero
With Michael, he feels safe.
(wherein Jeremy Heere is scared of girls and Michael Mell is his last line of defense.)
okay this entire rec list is jenny’s fault because she just finished protector and i wanted to yell about it more than i already have. i know ive recced this before but now it’s COMPLETE AND YOU SHOULD ALL GO READ IT, FUUUUUUCCK.
ive been screaming about this fic ever since it started. it’s a fantastic, well written, hilarious, GUT WRENCHING masterpiece with all the fun things that makes a fake dating fic a joy to read + 10000 more incredible things. i have laughed out loud reading this fic. i have shed real fucking tears reading this fic. i nearly threw my phone out the window of a moving car, one memorable moment. please. just. if on the off chance you havent read this fic yet, please do. it’s a long, lovely journey that’s wonderfully written with fantastic characterization and chapters that have u clawing for MORE. im tryna stay vague about describing this fic bc i f i went into detail, this post would be too long.
read this fic. please. you will thank me, but u gotta thank jenny first for creating all of it.
It Don’t Mean a Thing (Cause He Ain’t Got That Swing) by AMRV_5
Jeremy loves jazz, but really, really, really can't play it. After a disastrous recital, he swears off jazz forever and gives up his dreams of performing to major in music education... until a fateful scheduling issue forces him into a jazz and improv class. There he meets Michael Mell, an insufferably cool bassist who doesn't know how talented he really is. Together, they have the potential to create something incredible. That is, if they can get along for even half a second.
okay so it takes A Lot for me to get into a WIP but holy SHIT im fucking obsessed with this fic!!!! it is exactly what is says on the cover and so much more. this fic is PHENOMENAL. i know nothing about music, but the way it’s written makes me not just understand whats going on but feel just how charged that scene is too. I DIDNT KNOW DUETS/QUARTETS COULD HAVE THIS MUCH FUCKING TENSION, BUT THIS FIC DOES IT, and i dont even know what any of the technical shit means!! just. it’s execution is done so so well, im fucking floored. like. this entire fic is very well written, but the music scenes are dripping with skill. if im not making sense, i guess youll just have to read the fic to get what im talking about //eyes emoji
another thing among Many Things that knocks it out of the ballpark in this fic is the characterization. jeremy. oh god, jeremy. i wont spoil, but this version of jeremy is by far one of the most interesting interpretations ive ever seen and it’s pulled off fantastically. our boy has a lot more bite in this fic and i love it. it’s so good. god. everybody in this fic is so good. god. looks like you’ll have to read the fic to get what im talking about //eyes emoji but more intense
JUST!! READ THIS FIC!! START FOLLOWING THIS FIC!!! it’s got Pining and Slowburn and Misunderstandings and some of The Most engaging scenes ive read in a long time. this whole fic is so clever and so crisp and each update has me fucking screaming.
a little unsteady by starlithorizons
Michael's hidden domain has always been the rollerskating rink - a home away from home. Jeremy isn't so suited for the environment.
Maybe he can fix that.
OHHHH gosh this. this fic is so good?? it’s like the ideal fluff imo??? like, it’s not all Perfect and happy but that little conflict that happens just kinda emphasizes how these boys can always work to make things Better and Happy and it just warms my heart lots. the pov here is so lovely to read because it’s michael “hearteyes” mell and it’s Beautiful. the jokes r in this fic are hilarious and land so well. this is such a prime feel-good fic i Love It Lots.
flash point by Kalopsia
you know what they say, jeremy heere. those who play with fire are bound to get burned.
(Jeremy kisses Michael on a worn red leather couch the summer before their junior year. Then he takes the Squip, and it’s all ablaze from there.)
i HONESTLY do not have words to either praise this in the way it deserves to be praised which seems to be a mcfcuking trademark for emma’s writing hksjfdshh. but god. this fic is a breathtaking read with fantastic imagery and beautiful overarching metaphor hhhh!!! the emotions are so clear and!!! //aggressive gesturing!! just read it!!!!
a crimson headache, aching blush [series] by pondify
He supposes that it began, as it always does, with Michael.
a series of short yet HEARTBREAKING fics. every fic is a study of jeremy’s pining while he’s in a fwb relationship with michael and. jesus. this series is a testament to how much punch you can pull in short scenes. fucking incredible writing right here.

meremine
Gewissensbisse by Nymm_At_Night
Old rumors get a new lease on life, high school is shit, and Jeremy, Christine and Michael learn to make it a three player game.
AAAAGGGHHH GOD THIS FIC WAS SO FUCKING GOOD. this fic does not shy away from so many issues and consequences that happen post-musical, and reading it hurts so much at times but it all comes together and it’s ridiculously satisfying. this fic is super well rounded cuz it’s got so much and it’s all done AMAZINGLY?? characterization and writing are INCREDIBLE here. the humor in this fic is so well done i was clutching my sides wheezing at times. and overall, just watching jeremy go through everything +++ being in love with TWO people is such a ride. such a fantastic ride.

Brooke didn’t deserve to love someone like her. She deserved the complete opposite of Chloe—kind and maybe a little shy and nerdy but was constantly and needlessly good to her. Someone constantly smiling like she is, too. Someone like Jeremy.
She looks at Michael, who’s so close to passing out and wonders if she looks exactly like he does right now. Tired and pathetic. Rubbing at her face, she decides she definitely does.
— In which Chloe and Brooke are both insecure in ways they'll never admit to the other.
THIS FIC HURTS BUT GOD, IT’S SO DONE WELL. multipov with phenomenal characterizations for every character, this fic is a heartbreaking peek into tiny tragedies. the scenes in this fic are simple yet brutal and yet so undeniably real and human. this fic is beautifully written, and if you can handle unrequited feelings pain, you definitely need to fucking read this.

statistically, most people don't take more than five seconds to say something to their soulmate after realizing the universe has paired them together. brooke and chloe take approximately six years, but better late than never, right?

Lost But Not Forgotten (Michael Mell x Reader)
A/N: hey all! here with a new fic! i read a lafayette x reader fanfic a while ago that was similar and it gave me this idea (i searched all day for it and couldn’t find it. if you do find it, tell me please). anyways, requests are open and hope you enjoy! love you all!
Masterlist
TW: amnesia, car accident, implied smut
Key:
Bold: Michael’s POV
Italic: Flashback
Normal: reader’s POV
He holds you tightly in a bone crushing hug.
“Relax Michael. It’s just a semester.”
“I know, but I’m gonna miss you.”
“I’ll call you when we get to Toronto, if the school lets me that is, you know these programs and all.”
“Promise?”
“I promise.”
. . .
You wake up to the blinding hospital lights. How did you get here? You didn’t remember anything actually now that you think about it.
A nurse comes in, “oh, you’re awake. Good. Do you mind telling me your name?”
“I-it’s (Y/N)? I think? I don’t quite know… what happened?”
“You were in a taxi and the car crashed. You hit your head badly, causing your current state of amnesia, but you weren’t otherwise injured besides a few broken ribs.”
“Okay…” you were trying to piece together everything, but it’s hard to put together a monochromatic puzzle and only know where one corner piece is.
“Do you have any emergency contacts for us to call? Your phone was destroyed in the crash so we don’t know the contact numbers.”
What the hell? If you didn’t remember your name what makes them think you’d remember your parent’s phone number. “No sorry.”
“That’s okay sweetie. How old are you?”
You pause for a moment, “I wanna say 24.”
“Okay, so we’re gonna help you back on your feet and soon we’ll let you out so you can go back to living normally.”
“Thanks.”
. . .
“Jeremy what the hell do I do?”
“What are you talking about?” “She hasn’t called or texted. It’s been a week now!”
“didn’t she say she was busy? I mean, this is a study abroad, and she’s probably thriving. They probably are hoarding her for themselves so she doesn’t leave so quickly.”
“yeah, but she promised she’d call or text when she landed.”
“I’m sure she’ll be okay Michael.”
. . .
It’s been a few months now and you were in a steady job and renting an apartment. Your family had come up to help you, but the chunk of time between graduation and now was a total blur that refused to clear up. The nurse told you that something around town might spark it up if you’ve been there before, but nothing happened.
You were a little worried by now, you hadn’t gotten your period in two months and you were all but excited. The test read positive and you sighed. Were you married? Boyfriend? Just a one night stand? You didn’t know and it pained you. You talked to a doctor about finding out who the father is somehow, but they said they couldn’t say until they get a blood sample from the baby.
You just wish you could remember something. Anything from before two months ago.
. . .
Michael was sitting beside you looking down almost terrified.
“Michael it’s okay. Condoms break. It’s not your fault. I’m on the pill anyway. We’ll be fine.”
“Are you sure?”
“Positive. We’ll be okay.”
. . .
“Michael, you’ve been at the airport for almost a day now, you can’t stay at the airport waiting for her forever.”
“Just one more minute… one more flight from Toronto… she’ll come back. I’m sure of it.”
“Michael, as your friend, I say that you can’t do this anymore. Just come with me and come home. We can get stoned in the basement and play games huh?”
“What if she comes and doesn’t see me?”
“Then she’ll call you. She knows your number and we’ll come back.” He helps Michael out of the airport.
. . .
“Jeremy, I’m getting scared. She hasn’t called, I asked her parents and they said she didn’t even make it to the event.”
“Well… maybe she… I don’t know what to say anymore.”
“Neither do I” he slumps down on the couch. “Do you think she left me?”
“No, of course not. She loves you. She wouldn’t do this intentionally.”
“What if she did?”
“I… I don’t know what to say anymore. I know it’s been what, three months past when she was supposed to come home? You have to let go.”
. . .
You held your daughter close to you. You had no idea where, but the name Cathryn popped into your head. She looked so familiar, but you couldn’t place it. She looked so peaceful sleeping there.
The doctor comes in, “so, we have news.”
“Did you find out who it was?”
“Yes, her other genes match that of a boy around your age in New Jersey. Do you by any chance know a Michael Mell?”
And just like that, it all came back to you. Every memory you had since you graduated high school just popped up again.
“Michael… I have to get to New Jersey…”
. . .
“Hey,” you sit up to look at him anxiously, “do you ever think about having kids?”
“Definitely yeah. All the time.”
“Really?”
“Yeah, I already thought of names.”
“You did? What are they?”
“Well for a boy, I’d name him Michael jr.” you giggle and push his shoulder, “and for a girl I’d name her Catherine, after my mom.”
. . .
After hours in a plane and bus, you finally arrived back in the town. You quickly go to the nearest payphone and call Michael. It rings a few times and a voice different than you expected answered his phone, “hello?”
“Jeremy? What are you doing answering Michael’s phone?”
There was a moment of silence as you hear him walk somewhere else. “(Y/N)? is that you?” “Yeah… look, I don’t know how much time I have left. I’m at the bus stop. Please pick me up.”
“Hang on,” he puts a hand on the speaker but you can still hear him yell, “Michael I’m stealing your cruiser for a bit!” he turns back to the phone, “I’ll be there in a few minutes.”
You stand by the curb with your small suitcase next to you and Catherine in your arms. She fell asleep when you got on the bus in Newark airport, she looked so cute asleep. Soon enough, the familiar sound of the PT cruiser came down the road. Jeremy puts on the warning lights and parks in front of you. “Hey (Y/N)…um… I guess I’ll put your luggage in the back.” You giggle a bit and sit in the front seat.
He comes back in and starts to drive to Michael’s house.
“So how are you? How’s Christine?” “Great. We actually got married last month.” “God I wish I could have been there.”
“Speaking of; where the hell have you been for the past almost year… and now with a child.”
“I was in the taxi when an asshole speeded down the intersection and hit us. So, I was stuck in Canada with amnesia.”
“And the child? Were you seeing someone?”
“No actually, I found out a few weeks after I left the hospital, and people don’t really like to date pregnant women. Besides, I didn’t know if I had a significant other, but I didn’t want to cheat on them accidentally. So… yeah, meet Catherine, Michael’s daughter. How’s he doing?”
“He’s not great… I’ve been trying to get him back up on his feet, but to no avail.”
“Oh god… he’s gonna hate me isn’t he?”
“For a moment, he’ll probably just be happy to see you at first and then he’ll be mad. But when you explain to him what happened he’ll once again just be happy to see you.”
You nod and get out of the car as it pulls into the driveway. Jeremy goes downstairs and you wait by the door as you listen to the conversation.
“Michael? I have a surprise for you.”
“Is it more weed?”
“No.”
“I’m not interested”
“Yes you are. Now sit up and make yourself look slightly presentable. You’ll be happy you did.”
He groans, “fine fine. This better be good though.”
“It will” Jeremy says as he walks up the stairs again. “I’ll hold her, you go down.” You nod and hand Catherine to him and slowly walk downstairs. You inhale the pungent stench of pot and old junk food.
You walk into the room to see him looking in a mirror, trying to fix his hair. The moment he sees you in the mirror, he turns around, “(Y/N)? I-is it really you?”
You nod, the tears already forming in your eyes. He runs over and pulls you into a big hug. God, you missed this. You both cry and hold each other close to make up for the lost time. You find your way to the couch and tell him the story about what happened.
“Please don’t be mad”
“I’m not. I’m just glad you’re back.” He kisses your lips softly, but with desperation. You pull him close to you and run a hand through his hair. It only lasted a second, as Jeremy yelled downstairs, “(Y/N), she’s awake and wants you.”
You may or may not have left out the part about Catherine so he was looking at you with pure confusion. Your face turns into a grin, “come on. There’s someone I want you to meet.”
“Please tell me the ‘she’ he was just talking about is not your girlfriend.”
You giggle, “no, nothing like that.” Going further up the stairs, he could hear the baby crying, “(Y/N)? what aren’t you telling me?”
You take Catherine from Jeremy and walk back over to Michael, standing there in complete shock, “after the night before I left… apparently the pill wasn’t successful, and um… meet your daughter Catherine.”
He carefully takes her into his arms and already starts tearing. “How old is she?”
“About a week.”
He kisses the top of her head, “hi baby, I’m your daddy Michael.”
You straighten his glasses and kiss his cheek, “I missed you.”
“I missed you too.”

Prom!
Hey again for @stonermurphy and @le-gay-le
I managed to change someone from boyf riends to this and I’m happy.
Next up I change my girlfriend’s ship.
I do take requests for RichxMichael, ChristinexJeremy, EvanxConnor (ohhh DEH is here), JaredxEvan, JDxMichael (the slushie ship), and more. Just send me a message with a prompt!
TW: suicidal thoughts, panic attacks.
Prom started out great.
Rich and Michael were in the back of the PT Cruiser; Bob Marley was playing in the background. Michael was making marks all over his boyfriend, and Rich? Well Rich would forever deny how loud he was.
It was wonderful, until Jake and Jeremy opened the door to the car. Rich pushed Michael away, his face flushed red. “Mi-Michael, come on.”
“Really Jeremy? Come on.” Michael whined, getting out of the car. He took Rich’s hand, leading him out to the car. “I could’ve gotten further.”
“Oh please, you’d say ‘Michael is making an entrance’ if you got that far.” Jeremy said. “Christine is waiting for me and Chloe is waiting for Jake. I can’t believe the minute Jake and I left the car you pushed Rich to the back and jumped him.”
“Okay I would totally say that, it would be worth it. Also, he looks good in a tux, right princess?” Michael turned to Rich, smirking.
“Don’t call me printheth.” Rich mumbled. “You look better in a thuit.”
“Please change his username to princess.” Jake said, wheezing at this point.
“Change your own utherame to printheth if you want that name tho bad!” Rich hit Michael’s arm lightly. “Don’t change it.”
“I wouldn’t change it babydoll.” Michael whispered in Rich’s ear, wrapping his arm around him.
That damn name made Rich turn red. He hated that Michael had this power.
“Rich? What’d he say? Why are you red?” Brooke walked over, she was followed by Chloe, Jenna, and Christine. They must’ve been either bored or worried. “Are you okay?”
“I have my secrets to get my boyfriend to be quiet. I will never share them, they are mine.” Michael said. “I also know how to sneak pot into prom.”
“My name’s Michael, let’s get stoned in my basement and prom!” Jeremy mocked. “Ten bucks you brought some weird drink.”
“I tried. Richard wouldn’t let me.”
“You bet your athth I wouldn’t!” Rich said, grabbing his boyfriend’s arm. “He needth to try other drinkth.”
“. . . Richard almost finished all my Mountain Dew Red.”
“THUT UP!”
“Hey! Hey, c’mon. Let’s go inside okay? I want to dance.” Christine smiled, taking Jeremy’s hand. “Of course, with the guy I am totally into.”
Everyone groaned.
~ ~ ~
Rich forgot why he tried to be cool for Michael.
The nerd was doing the robot.
THE ROBOT!
“Michael I thwear to everything I know you’re the biggetht geek I know.” Rich said, laughing his ass off. “You’re tho cute.”
“Try it Richard, I want to see a cool guy do a geeky dance.” Michael took Rich’s hands, grinning like a madman.
“You think I’m cool?” Rich flushed again.
“Yes? Why wouldn’t I?” Michael frowned. “Richard.”
“Yeth?”
“You’re the coolest guy in the world.”
“Am I cooler than a vintage cathette?” Rich teased, remembering what Jeremy told him about Michael during the SQUIP. He thought it was hot.
He got shocked for that.
“You’re cooler than Red Mountain Dew and Crystal Pepsi on a hot day. Dare I say you are cooler than Apocalypse of the Damned!” Michael said, grabbing Rich’s shoulders.
“No way, you’re thitting me!” Rich got to play the game with Michael a few times before prom, he was actually amazing. He didn’t have the heart to tell Michael he played it and beat it awhile ago.
“I’m not thitting you.” Michael teased him, kissing his cheek.
Rich was about to come up with a response until he heard the song change and Michael pulled him to the dance floor.
It was Whitney. God why was Michael so excited?
“Michael, thith thong thucks--I uthed too many wordth with an eth, haven’t I?” Rich covered his mouth.
“Nah babe you’re good, and this song totally sucks. I want to dance with you though. This is the only music worth dancing to!”
“I beg to differ.” Rich said, twirling his boyfriend.
“Hey Rich, can I talk you to you?” Jake placed a hand of Rich’s shoulder, smiling. “Sorry Michael, can I steal him?”
“Go for it.” Michael replied as cool as he could. He waited until Jake took Rich to the punch table to begin to freak out.
He hated parties.
He didn’t know he hated them until Jake’s Halloween party. That was his undoing.
And here he was.
Alone.
Again.
He stopped looking up, the faces passing him were making him dizzy. He couldn’t breath. The dread was settling in his stomach. He felt his eyes burn, his legs were numb and he ran. He ran to the bathroom, at least that would give him comfort. He needed to be there.
He should have told Rich, but he didn’t.
He was scared Rich wouldn’t care.
~ ~ ~
Rich became nervous.
It had been ten minutes since Jake finished telling him about how Chloe was telling Brooke how she was going home with him. Rich of course was glad his friend got this chance but he noticed Michael was missing.
He waited, maybe he just went to get food.
Now he was scared.
He ran outside, praying to everything he knew and loved Michael was getting high out back.
He wasn’t.
He didn’t know what made Michael leave, he didn’t care. Somehow it was anyone but Michael’s fault and he’d fight anyone who hurt his boyfriend.
“Jeremy! Michael ith mithing and I’m worried!” Rich grabbed the tall boy’s arm, not caring Christine was holding that very arm. “He’th been gone for fifteen minuteth now!”
“Let me think, oh god prom was a bad idea why did I--bathroom! Shit! Grab Jake and follow me. Christine I’ll be back okay?” Jeremy turned to his girlfriend.
“Okay, that’s fine! Make sure he’s okay for me, alright? I’d go in with you but--”
“No, you have to come Chrithtine! Get Jenna, Brooke, and Chloe!” Rich cried, looking desperate, “He may need all of uth!”
“I’m on it, okay?” Christine smiled. “I’ll bring the bathroom keys, in case he locked himself in there. I’ll get the gang!”
“Me too.” Jeremy ran off with Christine, getting the rest of SQUIP squad.
~ ~ ~
“I can’t do this, I can’t do this, I can’t--” Michael repeated over and over again in the bathroom. He did, in fact, lock the door. He wanted to disappear all over again. He felt alone.
He didn’t notice the door open with seven other teens searching for him.
“--SUCH A GODDAMN LOSER! I CAN’T DO THIS!” Michael was punching the wall, hoping he could break the world.
He was almost breaking his hand.
He broke down in sobs, collapsing to the floor. “Can’t do it. I can’t do it again, don’t want to be alone again. I hate being alone! I’m always fucking alone!”
“M-Michael? Hey, what’th wrong?” Rich moved closer, slowly easing to a crouch next to the crying boy. “Babe look at me.”
“R-Richard? Oh god, y-you weren’t supposed to see me like this. Why are you here? Aren’t you talking to. . . I. . .” Michael turned, stopping when he saw the rest of the group there.
It wasn’t the best idea to bring them all there.
“Hey, player one. Calm down, okay? We’re all here. We’re still your friends!” Jeremy sat down with Rich, smiling at Michael.
“Michael why would we leave you alone? We love you!” Christine sat down with them.
“Can I rub your back? If you need space it’s okay.” Jenna said; seeing Michael nod she sat down and ran her hand up and down his back. “What? Personal space is important!” she said to the group.
“Want to ditch and get Pinkberry?” Brooke asked, hearing Michael snort she sat down with them.
“We’ll go after if you want, okay?” Chloe sat down, leaving Jake the last one standing.
Jake stepped closer. “Shit Michael you’re going to make me cry, come on man. Take deep breathes. Look me in the eyes, okay?” Michael complied. “Alright, deep breathe in,” Michael did so. “I want you to hold it, good! Now let it out.” Jake patted Michael’s head as he did so.
“. . . I wanted to die.” Michael whispered. “That night, during Jake’s party. I wished I stayed at home, offing myself or-or that I was never born. I tried that night when I got home. I-I should’ve stayed in the damn house, I should’ve stayed in the fire! I think about that every night! I-I don’t know why I’m saying all this shit, god I shouldn’t be saying this.”
Rich stared in horror, this wasn’t the happy-go-lucky Michael he knew. This was a tired, sad, depressed Michael. A real Michael.
“Would it have been better if I stayed in the bathroom?” Michael looked up at the group, smiling.
“NO!” Rich screeched. He grabbed Michael’s hands. “NO NONO!”
“Rich don’t shout.” Jeremy said, his eyes were wide and he looked like he was going to cry. He wanted to shout too, scream how wonderful Michael was.
“Michael you’re totally important, you saved the whole school--no! You saved the world from the stupid supercomputer! We’d be mindless robots without you!” Chloe said, crawling closer. “That would suck!”
“I-I bet someone would figure it out. Richard was screaming for the stupid drink, Jeremy you figured it out during the play right? You would’ve been able to get it and save yourself.” Michael looked even more tired at that point, letting his head fall.
“Let’th go home, okay? Let’th go to your houthe. I got him guyth, I’ll drive uth to hith houthe.” Rich helped Michael up, sending the group a sad smile. He walked to the PT Cruiser. He got in the drivers seat and helped Michael buckle in. “Michael? Are you going to therapy?”
“My parents don’t believe in therapy, I usually get high when I feel like this. It helps me suppress my emotions.” Michael said, leaning on Rich’s shoulder.
“Not healthy, let’s get you home. I’m gonna thtart you with my therapitht, okay? Good, I’m glad you agree.” Rich said, rubbing his boyfriend’s arm.
They both jumped when Rich’s phone made a noise.
Brooking it to class: We’ll meet you two at pinkberry, everyone loves frozen yogurt when they’re upset.
Richard: Got it, bringing the rest?
Brooking it to class: Yup!
Rich smiled, turning the car on. “We’re making a thtop babe.”
~ ~ ~
“Strawberry frozen yogurt? You’ve got good taste Michael!” Chloe complimented the boy, she was getting her own. “Now for toppings what do you want?”
“I have no idea, I’ve never had this stuff before. What’s good?” Michael stared at the toppings area. “. . . I want actual strawberries on it! Is that cookie dough?! Why did nobody take me here before?!”
Rich watched his boyfriend place toppings on his yogurt, he felt himself relax. Michael wasn’t going to hurt himself. Rich was going to stay over at Michael’s house that night. Michael was going to start therapy the next day.
“He never told me about this, I swear.” Jeremy was still in a state of shock, unforgiving to himself. “I can’t believe I never notice, he always acted so. . . perfect!”
“Hey, it’s okay we’re getting him help.” Jenna said, smiling. “I want chocolate froyo, be back.”
“I’m getting some too, Rich you want something?” Brooke stood up, smiling.
“Nah, I’ll eat thome of Michael’th.” Rich said, keeping his eyes on his boyfriend.
“I want some!” Jake stood up and went to the machines, just in time for Michael to sit down.
“Hey babydoll, want some?” Michael held out a spoon. Rich nodded, scooting closer. “I’m sorry for dumping all that crap on you earlier, I really wish I was normal--”
“Don’t. I’m glad you told me, thith way we can help you. I’m glad I’m here for you, now give me a kith!” Rich put his hand on Michael’s shoulder. Michael grinned and kissed Rich.
It would get better.

The "Right" Way
Authors Notes: Notes: -Asdfghjkl- is the Squip talking to Jeremy ~Asdfghjkl~ is singing ((The tune would be that of the Be More Chill songs: the Squip’s solo and the background chorus))
~~~~~~~~
Jeremy stands just outside Jake’s house, a look of pure determination on his face. He’s figured out a system that -almost- works every time. He thinks he just needs to iron out the last few bugs and pray that God is on his side.
…I thought that LAST time. And the time before that. And the time before that. Now he’s just standing there like a pitiful, lost child.
What he doesn’t realize is his LITERALLY fatal mistake. His very first step. Avoiding the confrontation with… him. I tried to get him to do it the right way the first few times, but he lost all faith in me when I blocked the loser in. Apparently he doesn’t know the term “self-preservation.” I’ll have to fix that.
The last time he fought with Michael, he didn’t rejoin the party. He sat by the door in silence, listening to Michael’s pathetic breakdown. That’s when he decided to try to stop that from happening. On the next loop, he went in, became intoxicated so I wouldn’t interfere (I was getting bored of trying to improve him anyway), and did things differently. Not like it helped; people still keep dying. Michael, Chloe, Brooke, Christine, Jake, Rich, Jenna, even himself a few times. Almost. He rewinds just before he dies. Let’s just hope nothing happens that stops his heart before he even gets the chance to think.
Anyway, I’m bored with just sitting on the sidelines. But moreso I’m bored of living this stupid night over and over again inside his head because he’s too weak to accept death. But if I try to do anything, he’ll just get drunk.
…Looks like it’s time for Plan B.
-Jeremy.-
“What do you want? I thought you were leaving me alone.”
-There’s a right way to do this, to end this night.-
“Oh yeah? What’s that? Locking Michael in the bathroom again?! No way. I swear to God if you try ANYTHING–”
-I won’t. Trust me I want to be finished here just as much as you do. So I’m going to give you my advice. I AM your Squip, after all. It’s my job.-
“…So what’s your advice?”
If I say something extreme first, he will be more likely to listen to the second suggestion.
-Maybe someone NEEDS to die.-
“WHAT?! You’re CRAZY!!”
-No, think about it. It’s a house fire; there are bound to be casualties.-
“Well, yeah, I guess that makes sense… But plenty of people I don’t know die, so…that CAN’T be it!”
-Maybe someone you DO know is just fated to die.-
“‘Fated…to die…?’ But who…? N-no, no! I can’t think this way! I’m not gonna let ANY of my friends die!”
-Maybe you keep failing because you spread yourself too thin. Maybe you should just learn to be okay with failure and death. It seems to be following you anyway.-
“No…that can’t be it… Who could be “fated to die”…?
-I guess you’ll have to find that out for yourself. But that’s not all.-
“Oh, GREAT.”
-Don’t worry, it’s easier than playing God and deciding who should die. But it’s just as important, I assure you.-
“O…kay…?”
-You need to stop avoiding the confrontation with Michael.-
“Wh…No! You heard just how upset he gets… I can’t put him through that again…”
-Do you want to watch him die forever?-
“N..no… Of course not… I can’t take that…..”
-Then LISTEN to me. And obey. Or we’ll NEVER get through this.-
…
-Jeremy, I know what’s best for you. Even if you can’t see it sometimes. ~Everything about you is going to be wonderful.~-
“~But I don’t care so much about me…~”
-~Everything about you is going to be so alive!~-
“~But I can’t even save my friends’ lives…~”
-~Jeeeeeeeremyyyyyy, you can’t try to beeeee the hero you wanna beeeeeeeeee…~ So be more chill.-
“…Be more…chill.”
-That’s right. Now let’s get in there.-
Because of the little pep talk, we end up arriving later than usual. Brooke sees us walk in from across the room and eagerly rushes over to meet us like the dog she’s dressed as.
“Jeremy!” she waves and squirms through the crowd, “I was afraid you weren’t coming; did you get my messages??”
That’s new.
-Play it off.-
“Am I late? Didn’t even realize.” Good. He’s listening to me again. Wait… He’s listening to me again? This doesn’t make… Running neurotypical scan… Showing signs of despondence, hopelessness, and despair. Analyzing probable causes… Ah, of course. The last reset. When Michael went blind. That was the closest he’s ever gotten. And he went and kissed the boy, too. They made it over that pit against all odds, but… It wasn’t enough. They took too long, and the entrance became blocked entirely. No one could get out. He watched as all of his friends choked to death, one by one. He held Michael’s face as he desperately tried to keep him from giving up. He called his name until his very last breath–in that timeline, anyway.
That must be what’s broken him. He doesn’t know what to do. He’s falling back on me again. This…this is perfect. If he lets me guide him through the party, we may actually be able to make it.
~~~~~~~
Things are going well. Jeremy is doing everything I tell him to. Out of nowhere, he just decides to break off from the group and head to the bathroom.
“This doesn’t feel right. Just…acting like nothing bad is about to happen…”
-It will pass. Eventually, it will pass.-
“How do you–Gwah!”
Jeremy is pulled into the bathroom by Michael. He tries to convince Jeremy that I’m going to ruin his life. Which is ridiculous. My job is to improve his life, not ruin it. By any means necessary.
-You can’t listen to him, Jeremy. I’m the only one who can get us out of this. You’ve tried everything. Give up and let me save us.-
Jeremy stares at the floor, his face as clouded as his vision.
“Get out of my way. You loser…”
After a moment of realization, registering that his “best friend” is mine now, Michael steps to the side. I always feel satisfied when we sever the last link to Jeremy 1.0. I have to take control just to stop Jeremy’s tears from falling and walk us out. I don’t let him stay anywhere near that bathroom.
The rest of the party, he just hangs on the sidelines. Too mentally strained to even try to enjoy himself. It’s not ideal, but I can’t push him too much, or he’ll stop listening to me again. I’ve finally regained his trust; I can’t lose it again. Jeremy watches that Rich kid from across the room. He’s fidgeting on the couch, scratching his head often and muttering to himself. Several people have jokingly asked what was wrong with him, but he dismissed them rather violently. Now he’s pacing around the living room, visibly shaking.
“I still haven’t figured out why he acts like that… I should go ask.”
-If you want to.-
He makes his way to Rich, coming up behind him, and taps his shoulder. Rich nearly jumps out of his skin at the touch. He rounds on Jeremy, grabbing him by the shoulders. Upon closer inspection, his face is pale and panicked, eyes bloodshot and baggy, hair unkempt and shaggy. You’d think he was drinking or smoking, but he hardly smells of alcohol or pot. So what could…?
“I NEED MOUNTAIN DEW REEEEED!!!!!” Rich yells, shaking.
Shit. He’s figured it out. How could his Squip be so idiotic? Sigh… Fine. Looks like he needs to be the one to go. Jeremy tries to soothe him, but there’s no point. He’s lost it.
-Give it up, Jeremy. He’ll be fine.-
Jeremy stops, watching him run around now, out of control. Not long after he flees to the kitchen, screams erupt from within and teens frantically flood from the fire.
-It’s time to go.-
“But Rich is still in there! And I can’t leave Michael behind..!”
-Michael will be fine. He already left.-
“He…he did?”
-Optic nerve blocking.-
“…Right…. But still, what about Rich?!”
-Leave him.-
“Huh…?”
-Hurry up and get out of here or I’ll do it for you.-
As Jeremy stares awestruck, eyes fixed on the growing flames, Jenna and Christine pass him; Christine stops for a moment to grab him by the arm, “What are you waiting for, Jeremy?! Come on!!” She drags him out, abandoning the other Squipped teen.
By the time Jeremy regains his senses, he scans the crowd. Christine and Jenna are safe, obviously, Chloe has buried herself under his arm, Brooke is sitting by the road, crying, and Jake has his hands to the sides of his head, trying to figure out how the hell he would explain this to his parents. The only one missing is–
“Michael… Where’s Michael?!”
-Jeremy, he’s–
“No!! I won’t risk it!”
He’s going to jump again!
-We finally made it out of there! You’re going to throw that away?! You don’t know that he’s still in there!-
“But I don’t know that he’s not!”
I need to say something and quick. Time jumping is the only thing I can’t stop him from doing!
-Jeremy STOP!! Or you’ll NEVER break free of this.-
He stops. Thank God.
“…You’re sure he’s alive?”
If it’ll get him to not reset, -Yes.-
“…I can’t risk it.”
-JEREMY–

For a minute I thought this was the “final” timeline, the one where they actually all make it--and I thought what a fantastic idea it would be if the final timeline is what actually happened in the show! So all of the previous timeloops lead up to everything in the actual musical, that’s genius!!
But aaa wreck my hEART AGA IN JESUS, I’m so glad Jer’s so concerned for Michael even though there’s a chance he made it out~~~ And reading everything from the Squip’s POV was so interesting! Especially for this AU, seeing things from his perspective is so neat! I loved it <33333

3 Times Jeremy's SQUIP Was NOT Helpful
1. Jeremy was still getting used to his SQUIP. It was weird having someone in your head telling you what to do, what not to do, controlling every aspect of your life. At least when he was at home he could be more himself. It was a bit hard ignoring everything the SQUIP was hissing in his ear, but he was used to tuning things out. It was how he survived school. Apparently, however, his SQUIP didn't like this. "Jeremy, how many times do I have to remind you that you need to do those push ups? You thought about sex a total of 55 times today, and if you ignore me, I will just make you do double tomorrow." He rolled his eyes. He knew the SQUIP was trying to help him, but it was sometimes overbearing and annoying. "How many times to I have to tell you I'll do it once I finish my homework?" Suddenly his hand started flying, filling out all the blank spaces on his papers. "There. Finished. Push ups. Now." "Geez you haven't even given me a chance to stand up!" Jeremy complained, earning himself a painful zap. "Ow! You know that hurting me won't help, right? When you do that, it just makes me want to disobey you more out of spite," he said and could practically feel it buzzing with discontent. "Fine, I will lower the intensity of your warning shock to a more mild feeling," it said, and Jeremy could've sworn he heard a sarcastic note to the voice in his head. "Warning shock? I'm not a dog, you can't just- AH! What the hell was that?" "I lowered the intensity of the shock I sent through your body. Does it still hurt? Your pain tolerance must be weak just like every other aspect of yours," the SQUIP snarked. Jeremy went on the defensive, "Hey, my pain tolerance is normal! And the shock didn't hurt it just felt... weird." "Well of course it felt weird Jeremy, it was a shock. They aren't exactly supposed to feel pleasant." "Yeah, well could you not do it?" he asked. "Jeremy, I will do whatever I need to in order for you to be more chill," the SQUIP calmly replied. Jeremy closed his eyes, placing a hand to his temple, "Yeah, well if you keep doing that I won't be able to be more "chill."" "Why?" the computer asked, "It is simply a painless shock, I don't see how- Oh you've got to be kidding me. You just love making my job harder for me, don't you?" Jeremy was blushing profusely, "Shut up! Lots of people are t- oh you know!" he shouted, burying his face into his hands while he curled up in his desk chair which earned him another zap. "GAH! I said stop!" "Jeremy, lots of people are ticklish. You just happen to be extremely so, and you're terrible at hiding it it seems, which is just one more quirk of yours that make it near impossible for you to be cool." "Gee thanks," he said, head still laying on the desk. "But trust me, I will make you the coolest person at your school. You just have to do as I say." Jeremy rolled his eyes, "Yeah, whatever." "No not "whatever" Jeremy. Do as I instruct. Now, if someone were to tickle you-" Jeremy instantly went red, "What? Why would that even happen?" he stammered out. "My data shows that it is a form of bonding between close friends, and as your pool of friends increases, the odds of this happening are higher." Jeremy tried to make himself appear even smaller, "Will you just... stop talking about it?!" he said in what he hoped would be a demanding tone but instead was a shriek. The SQUIP made a sound of disgust, "Jeremy, you must learn to not make such humiliating noises. "Just, ack, gaaaah!" he let out a frustrated cry, running his fingers through his hair. He was, of course, interrupted, "I don't know why you're making such a big deal out of this. It's just a word. A simple action. Nothing to worry about, just be. More. Chill." The SQUIP accented each word with a small shock, and Jeremy was practically having a spasm and fell into a fit of giggles. "You might want to work on that laugh," the SQUIP suggested. "What? What's wrong with my laugh?" Jeremy asked, and of course, the computer gave him an answer. "It sounds too dorky, if you want to be cool, you have to have a cool laugh." Jeremy rolled his eyes. "That's a lie. I heard Rich laughing at some joke Jake had told and he has this high pitched, shrieking laugh, and he's still considered cool," he justified. "Yes well, you're not Rich." 2. Jeremy was over at Brooke's house, and they were sat on the couch, making out. "My parents are out of town, the coast is clear," she had said, dragging him to her car before he could protest. Not that the SQUIP would let him anyways. And it turned out Brooke was a great kisser, so Jeremy couldn't complain too much. That is, until she moved down to his neck. "Don't squirm, she'll wonder what's wrong," the SQUIP informed him. Her teeth grazed a particularly sensitive spot below his jaw, causing him to let out a gasp. "What's wrong?" she asked, pulling away and placing a hand on his chest to balance herself. "Nothing," he reassured her, offering a smile and pulling her in, doing as his SQUIP instructed. She shrugged, going back to kissing. Jeremy couldn't help but let out a huff of air when she gently bit the stretch of skin below his ear. She leaned back once more, stopping the treatment. "Something's up. Tell me what it is," she said, nuzzling into his neck, and this time a short giggle left his lips. Her head shot up, staring at him, a growing smirk on her face. "Are you ticklish?" "Say no, she'll ignore it and go back to making out," it said. "No." "Are you saure, cause you took a second to answer," Brooke said skeptically. "Repeat after me-" "You're just such a great kisser my mind had gone blank," he said smoothly, hoping it was enough of a cover. She smiled, her lips returning to his skin, and her hand worked its way underneath his shirt, resting gently on his side. He allowed himself to relax a little, only to jump in shock when her hand squeezed his side. He jolted when she did it again. And again, and he couldn't help but to fall in a string of helpless giggles. "Liar!" she cried out, bringing her other hand to skitter over his belly. He brought his hands up to try and protect himself to no avail. Her hands moved quickly and precisely, sending ticklish waves throughout his body. "Wow, you're really ticklish! It's so cute!" she cooed, making him blush and try to hide his face. She pouted, "Aw, don't hide Jer! You're cute when you blush!" Her words only made him blush more, and he let out a whining laugh, drumming his legs onto the couch, but nothing he did lessened the feeling. In fact, her teasing increased the sensation. "Where else are you ticklish?" she asked, fingers crawling up his side. Jeremy was in hysterics and couldn't focus on anything, unable to communicate with the SQUIP. "I-I dohohohohon't knohohow!" he laughed out, squirming beneath her. He hoped she would just give up and let him breathe, go back to kissing, anything to stop the laughter inducing torture. Although if he were being honest with himself, he couldn't complain. He craved physical affection, and he kind of liked the feeling of letting go and laughing. "You don't know? Well that won't do," she teased, scribbling along his ribs, working her hands underneath his arms. He let out a loud shriek, and boy was he glad the house was empty. She laughed along with him and moved her hands down, relentlessly squeezing his thigh. "FAHAHAHAHACK!" Jeremy arched his back, crashing back down on the cushions in a fit of hysterics. He let out a snort, turning a bright shade of red and tried to cover his mouth to prevent any more embarrassing sounds from escaping. "Looks like I found a good spot!" she beamed, gently scratching her nails over his knees. She was sitting on his legs, effectively pinning him. She finally showed him mercy, slowing her fingers. "You have a really cute laugh," she said, laying her head on his chest and curling into his side. "It almost made me not want to stop." "Yeah, Ihihi could tell," he said, residual giggles slipping into his words. "You're absolutely ruthless." She nestled deeper into him, "Thanks." 3. Jeremy didn't bother in covering up his hickies. It was too hot out to be wearing any sort of neck cover and he didn't want to take the time to use makeup to hide them. Not to mention, his SQUIP wouldn't let him. "Wear them proudly," it said, "Like battle scars." So when Christine had asked what they were, he didn't try to deny it. "Christine! We need to pick out costumes," Chloe said dragging her away. "Oh cool! Swords!" Rich yelled , pulling a toy sword from a box of props. "Engarde!" he cried out, stabbing Jeremy in the side. He let out an indignant shriek, whipping around and slapping the sword from his hands sending it flying across the room. "Woah man, are you okay? I didn't actually mean to hurt you," Rich said with concern. "I'm fine," he squeaked out, his voice even higher than usual. Rich gave him a look, "You sure? Cause you don't sound like you are." Jeremy cleared his throat before speaking, "Yeah, you just scared me." "Honestly I didn't think you'd be that strong," Rich said, slightly impressed. "Yeah, I've been working out more," he said. Rich chuckled, "I thought you looked bigger," he said, playfully reaching over to squeeze his bicep. Jeremy covered his mouth with a snort, trying to stifle his reaction. Rich smirked, "Ticklish?" "Accept your fate now Jeremy, there's no way out of this," the SQUIP informed. "What?!" Jeremy screeched at the computer. "If you say no, he'll tickle you because he knows you're lying. If you say yes, he'll tickle you just because. It's better not to lie. Not to mention if Brooke hears you say no, she might help Rich. Saying yes is the best option." Jeremy had been silent whilst having the conversation, but Rich, knowing what he was doing, waited patiently, a look of false innocence plastered on his face. "A-a bit, but I'd prefer if you diDN'T!" his words turned to squeals of laughter when Rich lunged forward and dug his fingers into his sides. "Nohohoho! Stohohop!" he pleaded, curling in on himself. "A bit ticklish? More like a lot!" Rich exclaimed happily, moving his hands up his ribs. Jeremy couldn't speak, only laugh as the other boy set to work. Rich's teasing only made his blush increase, much to Jeremy's dismay. "Look how red you are! You're lihike a tomato!" he laughed, taking immense joy in his work. "You're laughing so much! You must really enjoy it if you're laughing so hard," he said, working his hands underneath his shirt to get at bare skin. Jeremy's knees buckled underneath him, and he slowly sank down, Rich following and never once stopping the torture. He squirmed and kicked, trying futilely to get away. Jeremy tried to protect his sensitive spots, but Rich kept finding new places to tickle. "What're you doing?" A voice sounded from behind them and Rich turned to see who it was, not slowing in his work. "Tickling Jeremy. I just found out he's insanely ticklish, and just listen to his laugh!" he exclaimed, pinching his side causing the boy beneath him to convulse with a snort. "Jahahahahahahake! Hehehehelp!" he cried out through his laughter, hoping for some mercy. "Help him and you're next," Rich threatened. "C'mon don't be like that," Jake whined, not wanting the same treatment as Jeremy. "At least let him breathe," he said, coming to his rescue. Rich rolled his eyes, letting Jeremy free. "Oh my god you saint," Jeremy said between pants. Jake chuckled, offering a hand to help him up. "Believe me, I know how ruthless he can be," Jake said, shooting his friend a playful glare as he smiled proudly, "'S not my fault you both are so ticklish," he said, tweaking both of their sides as he walked past. "Hey!" They exclaimed in unison, and Jake started off after Rich, chasing him out of the theatre, laughter ringing through the air. "You're welcome." "Welcome for what? You were no help in that situation," Jeremy said. "It's obvious you like it. I mean, why else would you fail to protest? I didn't hear you say "stop" even once," the SQUIP informed. Jeremy's blush intensified, knowing the computer had a point. "Shut up."

THE AU
How to train your dragon au Humans: Michael Jake Chloe Jenna Christine Dragons Rich - flame whipper Jeremy: night fury Mr.Heere: also nightfury fight me The squip: blue death (haha like red death) Brooke: Nadder? Changewing? Take this while I'm playing my How To Train Your Dragon Game SO Michael works as a blacksmith And so do his moms, Its kind of a family thing for them Michael, Jake, Jenna, Chloe and Christine are in training to learn how to slay dragons But theyre bad at working as a group, and on their own Christine and Jake tend to be spacey and were awful at keeping an eye on the dragons And Michael really just knows how to make weapons, not so much use them The people who stood the best chance were Jenna who honestly jyst likes studying dragons so she knows a lot about them And Chloe whos very good with weapons But those two couldnt work together very well. Mr.Reyes is dissapointed in his latest students. Michaels moms assured him its okay and if he can still be a blacksmith Its somewhat assuring, but not quite for Michael personally Jake would say his parents were dissapointed in him but they were taken by dragons, It wouldve made him a chief, but because hes so young Chloe parents were put in charge until Jakes old enough During a dragon raid one night Michael tried to shoot a Night Fury only to find himself horrifically missing and dissapointed in himself During said raid a couple dragons even go out of their cages A couple days later Michael went to gather wood only to find Night Fury scales Upon following them he found a A Night Fury with its legs wrapped up in a net in an odd way like it got itself tangled Michael with nothing else he can do with it, started to try and check out this strange dragon and document it the best he could. Only upon trying to look at its legs, unwrapped it just enough for the dragon to get away and found it didnt try to kill him. Because it was getting late Michael had to go home. The next day he went to retrieve the rope (he realized it could still be used) and noticed there were tracks assumedly from the Night Fury, but they looked bigger than he remembered Long story short Michael followed the tracks and finds the Night Fury. It doesnt appear injured but it appears VERY clumsy and occupied with a pond its trying to catch fish in. But Michael with a lack of planning for this to happen decides to start writing in a notebook the things he notices about the Night Fury from a distance. When he gets home he beings the rope back and lets his moms know he found it, (which theyre very proud of him for doing) So Michael starts leaving to study this Night Fury more, thinking he could be like the botanists that wrote the book of dragons and be really good at this. His moms are mainly happy hes found taking walks to be a sort of nice hobby He also notes Jake leaving late at night often as Michael comes back around the same time and maybe because hes really gay for Jake (this is relevant) After one very long day thats turning into night Michael realises something that he can't find an explanation for while watching this night fury hes dubbed Jeremy 1. Jeremy can't seem to hunt for himself but he seems well fed 2. Jeremy definitely doesnt match the size of the tracks he followed to him that seem to still match the shape of his foot Because he's stayed out so late though Michael gets his answer Theres the sound of a thud outside of the tunnel and in a panic he scrambles all the way inside the cave just barely out of the way to see another larger Night Fury to come in that definitely better matches the tracks he follwed The size difference suggests and same species suggests maybe this Jeremys dad. Which seems confirmed when he finds this is the the one who seems to be feeding Jeremy And it makes a lot more sense now Michael shot the net and missed hitting the Night Fury he was aiming for, but Jeremy was the one who ended up tangled up in it. For now Michael intends to leave but trying to go towards the tunnel doesnt go well when he drops his notebook Because of this in a matter of minutes hes stuck in place with a large Night Furry towering over him and huffing Michaels pretty sure this is it for him and closes his eyes regretting his life choices Until this Night Fury sneezed and proceeded to puke a fish on him like it puked fish up for Jeremy. And its clear he was just sniffing Michael and seemed to see him as a not a threat (unbeknownst to Michael its partially because Michaels been collecting NightFury scales that Jeremys been shedding and led to him smelling like him) Its also noteable Jeremy didn't take notice of Michael until his dad moved towards him. And as jeremys dad was getting Jeremys attention instead of making any noise he would manage to touch jeremy first to get his attention And until this point jeremy never took notice of Michael before when he he'd dropped things so appeared Jeremy had hearing problems which possibly had affected Jeremys abilty to hunt With this Michael came home very late and ended up having to tell his moms the truth who were very worried about him Surprisingly they werent mad considering they let Michael talk and explain how Jeremy and his dad didnt attack him and Jeremys dad even tried to feed him. Michaels moms thought this was interesting because nobody known anything about Night Furys before and Michael has the scales to prove it. They promise not to tell because Michael and his moms also know Chloes parents wouldnt be as understanding and if they heard Michael suddenly befriended dragons For now Michael keeps going alone to visit Jeremy who hes now found is quite friendly and even stops caring when Michael doesnt vary the scales with that makes him smell like a Night Fury If anything Jeremy gets excited the moment he can smell Michael and even starts saving food for when Michael shows up. (Though Michael just pretends to eat it and later bring it back to feed Jeremys dad) Over time it seems like Michaels been improving at the academy for (understanding) and "defeating" dragons, though Jake just seems better at dodging and being ignored by them Over time Michael even gets the idea to see if Jeremy can fly since hes yet to see it and one night hangs out to wait for Jeremys dad to also show up It's becomes apparent by comparison Jeremy has a weirdly formed tail wing which with a lack of hearing might mean Jeremy has some birth defects [que some of Michael getting help from his moms to make a prosthetic similar to the movie] Michael then waits till Jeremys dad returns in hopes to fly with him and that way he can also count on him to teach Jeremy to fly assuming Jeremy hasnt been able to prior The first attempt is rough as Jeremy finds Michael cannot hold on if theyre flying upside down, but Mr.Heere is big enough he manages to grab Michael by the back of his shirt and carry Jeremy to the ground very carefully The next couple attemps was Michael and Jeremy learning to work together to fly and jeremy being taught to fly by jers dad who just so happy his son and the weird small fleshy dragon he's befriended are able to fly with him together Also in this time (maybe also because flying was way fun and Michael felt like he could do anything if he could help Jeremy fly) Michael finds the courage to ask out Jake and happen to run into him when Jakes returning home in the dead of night. Jake seems very frantic in getting inside which makes Michael very worried until he hears a squawk but not a bird type squawk And Jake panics and asks Michael to promise he wont tell anyone about what hes doing if Jake let's him inside Michaels says yes and next thing he knows Jake has pulled him into a kiss for a moment before pulling him inside One of the dragons that had escaped to academy during a raid was a red and light blue Flamewhipper, a dragon resembling a gecko and used to constantly drop its tail and paralyze people making fighting it hard Well, Michael thought it escaped like everyone else until suddenly said dragon has crawled down from the ceiling to try and eat fish and a plant called ceriman Jake seems to have in his backpack. Jake named this dragon Rich and admits during the raid he'd taken the time to free Rich feeling like the dragons weren't bad and they were essentially tormenting the dragons in there. However Rich ended up following Jake to his house. Possibly because Jakes house is warm compared to outside and Rich is very fond of crawling in and laying on Jakes jacket So every night since, Jakes been feeding Rich who has yet to leave on his own and seems to be particularly fond of Jake himself to the point Jake has been sharing a bed with him Which now explains why dragons lately have been ignoring Jake as he shells like another dragon Michael doesnt give specifics but says he has a similar situation occuring that his moms know about and decides to stay over with how late it is Rich steals part of Jakes bed Michael also offers for his moms to help Jake feed Rich but Jake declines saying hes worried Rich might not be fond of many people Later that night Jake also apologizes for kissing Michael saying he's been crushing on him for awhile and only did it because he was greatful Michael wasn't going to tell anyone Jakes explanation for his actions is a big gay mood for Michael Michael also asks if he can kiss Jake again Jake says yes and they kiss for a moment until Rich squawks at them because Jake stopped petting him The next day Jake is introduced to Jeremy who thinks Jake is another small fleshy dragon and tries to play with him also sniffs him heavily because he smells Rich and "where is other dragon??!! I can smell him but hes not on this fleshy dragon?!??" Michael explains Jeremy cant hear and has dad that typically feeds him, he also cant fly which is what Michael helps him do with his prosthetic sort of tail Jeremy pukes fish on Jake and Michael tells him he typically feeds it to Jeremys dad later at night Michael also tells Jake hes welcome to come by to visit jeremy and his dad as long as Michael's there too incase Jeremys dad acts differemt towards Jake smelling like a different dragon Jake also asks if Michael and his moms could help make him a saddel like Jeremy has but for Rich Part 1 bc it wont let me post more on this
