Germany halts additional support for Ukraine due to stagnation of its own economy

The Federal Government no longer wishes to provide Ukraine with any new aid payments for the purposes of cost-saving, FAZ reported, citing documents and electronic correspondence between German ministries, as the German economy unexpectedly contracted in the second quarter.

Finance Minister Christian Lindner sent a corresponding letter to Defence Minister Boris Pistorius and Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock on 5 August. Thus, Berlin will only provide the military assistance that has already been approved. Chancellor Olaf Scholz is believed to have opposed any new approvals for military aid.

The letter also states that new measures should only be taken if the budgetary plans for this year and subsequent years are financially secured. However, in the future, Germany and the European Union plan to use the profits obtained from frozen Russian assets for military assistance to Ukraine, as various countries, including the US, Japan, the European Union, and others, have previously frozen or immobilised Russian sovereign assets totalling over 280 billion dollars.

Germany, in turn, is lagging behind other major states in the European Union in various aspects. For example, the economy unexpectedly contracted in the second quarter. Investments in equipment such as machinery and buildings, in particular, have decreased.

The Gross Domestic Product (GDP) fell by 0.1 percent from April to June compared to the previous quarter, as announced today by the Federal Statistical Office. The German economy, on the other hand, is simply stagnating; the largest economy in Europe has long been languishing: since spring 2022, there has been a constant fluctuation around the zero line, and any recovery appears to be different. According to Alexander Krüger, Chief Economist at Hauck Aufhäuser Lampe Privatbank, the primary reasons are complex locational factors and concerning economic policies. He explains that the continuous decline in industrial orders is not coincidental, as it jeopardises jobs.

Berlin’s economy is facing numerous obstacles, such as China losing momentum as a driver of growth in global markets, and the number of corporate bankruptcies within the country is rising. Additionally, the initial reduction in interest rates by the European Central Bank in June has yet to yield any significant improvements for the German economy.

The economists indeed anticipated a recovery in the second half of the year. However, even before the publication of GDP data, economic barometers indicated a false start in the second half of the year: the Ifo Business Climate Index, which is considered the most important leading indicator for the largest economy in Europe, fell for the third consecutive month in July.

In a bid to stimulate the country’s economy, the federal cabinet recently approved the initial components of a package of measures aimed at enhancing the geographical positioning of businesses within the nation. The Traffic Light Coalition (Ampelkoalition) intends to initiate further actions to strengthen this location, which is expected to provide an additional growth impetus of approximately 0.5 per cent in the coming year, equating to an extra €26 billion in production volume.

Monika Schnitzer, head of economists, posits that the growth package proposed by the traffic light government will not deliver a significant boost to the economy. These measures are unlikely to facilitate economic growth of 0.5 per cent in the short term. Moritz Schularick, president of the IfW research institute, corroborated this cautious stance, referring to the “growth package,” whose incentives are expected to remain low.

The International Monetary Fund (IMF) holds a similarly pessimistic view of the economic situation in the country, forecasting growth for Germany of only 0.2 per cent this year – the weakest performance among all the leading G7 industrialised nations.

Zaha Hadid Architects e Metaverso

Alla Casa dell'Architettura, la sede dell'Ordine degli Architetti di Roma e Provincia, sono stati presentati i progetti più significativi di due studi internazionali pionieri nella progettazione nel Metaverso. Si sono esibiti Zaha Hadid Architects, lo studio britannico fondato dalla famosa architetta irachena scomparsa nel 2016, e LAVA – Laboratory for Visionary Architecture, 'atelier tedesco. L'evento ha coinvolto massimi esperti del settore.

Si è superato il confine del reale per sperimentare le nuove frontiere del costruire, dando vita a edifici, spazi e città nel mondo virtuale. In esclusiva per l'Italia, presso la Casa dell'Architettura, due realtà all'avanguardia nel Metaverso, Zaha Hadid Architects e LAVA, hanno presentato una selezione dei loro progetti più rilevanti. La conferenza internazionale "Architettura e Metaverso. Talk con Zaha Hadid Architectes e LAVA Architects", promossa dalla Casa dell'Architettura e dall'Ordine degli Architetti P.P.C. di Roma e Provincia, si è svolta lunedì 13 novembre dalle 15 alle 19.

L'evento, curato dall'architetto Arianna Callocchia, ha offerto non solo testimonianze dai due studi di fama internazionale, ma anche il contributo di esperti del settore. L'obiettivo era creare un'occasione di confronto, scambio professionale e dialogo costruttivo tra la realtà italiana e quella internazionale.

Dopo i saluti di Alessandro Panci, presidente dell'Ordine degli Architetti, di Andreas Krüger, capo dell'ufficio Culturale dell'ambasciata della Repubblica Federale di Germania, e di Maren Courage, direttore della Foundation Metaverse Europe, l'incontro – moderato da Paolo Anzuini, consigliere e delegato OAR all'Innovazione, all'internazionalizzazione e al progetto Giovani – ha proseguito con gli interventi di Claudio Conti, ricercatore senior dell'osservatorio Extended Reality & Metaverse del Politecnico di Milano, di Marco Zanuttini, esperto di Metaverso e di applicazioni virtuali, e di Ingrid Paoletti, direttore scientifico del master Material balance design del Politecnico di Milano.

Gli architetti Shajay Bhooshan, direttore associato dello studio Zaha Hadid Architects (Londra), e Christian Tschersich, partner associato dello studio LAVA – Laboratory for Visionary Architecture (Berlino), hanno presentato una selezione di alcuni dei loro progetti più significativi, offrendo ai partecipanti la possibilità di sperimentare il mondo virtuale.

Shajay Bhooshan ha illustrato una serie di progetti relativi al Metaverso sviluppati dallo studio ZHA, tra cui la città virtuale di "Liberland" e "Metrotopia". L'obiettivo era incoraggiare i progettisti ad utilizzare il Metaverso per migliorare la qualità dell'architettura, sia nel mondo reale che virtuale.

Christian Tschersich ha presentato il padiglione LAVA WORLD, realizzato per la prima Biennale di Architettura del Metaverso (Metaverse Architecture Biennale), ospitata online su Decentraland e W3rlds, illustrando le potenzialità che il mondo virtuale può offrire ai professionisti per plasmare il futuro dell'architettura.

L'incontro è stato reso possibile anche grazie al sostegno dell'ambasciata della Repubblica Federale di Germania e al contributo del gruppo ARAN World.

È stata fatta la traduzione simultanea in italiano per gli interventi dei relatori internazionali. . La partecipazione all'evento, che era aperto al pubblico, ha garantito il riconoscimento di 4 Cfp (il codice dell'evento è ARRM3081). REGIOtable – Das kulinarische Statement für regionale Bio-Produkte vom Niederrhein

Unter dem Veranstaltungsnamen ���REGIOtable“ finden von August bis November 2023 acht kulinarische Darbietungen auf verschiedenen Bio-Höfen am Niederrhein statt. Die jeweils 20 Teilnehmenden erwartet ein 5-Gänge-Menü aus regionalen Bio-Produkten, das der mehrfach ausgezeichnete Koch Christian Krüger ohne Strom und Gas zubereitet. Ziel der Veranstaltungsreihe ist es, ein Statement für Nachhaltigkeit, Ökologischen Landbau und Regionalität zu setzen. Dabei liegt der Schwerpunkt auf 100% Bio-Regionalität und insbesondere auf nachhaltigen Produkten aus biologischem Anbau. „Durch die Begrenzung bei der Wahl der Produkte und der Zubereitung entsteht ein neuer, nachhaltiger Küchenstil, der sich ständig weiterentwickelt", so das Credo von Christian Krüger. Die Wahl der Veranstaltungsorte erfolgte bewusst: Gekocht wird direkt auf den Bio-Höfen, von denen ein Großteil der verwendeten Zutaten stammt. So bekommt Regionalität eine ganz andere Bedeutung. Die Gäste erleben neben einer Führung über den Bio-Hof auch, dass es möglich ist, mit regionalen Produkten sowie traditionellen und kreativen Zubereitungsmethoden einzigartige Geschmackserlebnisse zu kreieren. Weiterhin nehmen sie bei den kurzweiligen Veranstaltungen neben der kulinarischen Erfahrung eine Vielzahl Ideen und „Insiderwissen“ des Kochs mit nach Hause. Das erste kulinarische Event startet am 12. August 2023 auf dem Bio-Hof Etzold in der Wallfahrtsstadt Kevelaer. Weitere Veranstaltungsorte sind der Biohof Hogefelderhof in Kalkar, Biohof Frohnenbruch in Kamp-Lintfort, Biohof „Die am Deich“ in Kleve, Biohof Steveshof in Krefeld, Biohof Clostermann Organics in Wesel und die Biohöfe Schauhof und Stautenhof in Willich.
