Okay, ship time. Surge x Sonia.

The entire thing of it is that I think Surge would have no idea Sonia is related to Sonic, and Sonic is mentally slamming his head intl the wall every time his sister talks about "Her fun green girlfriend who has electric powers and a funky little teal bud!" To escape the urge to tell her that Surge isn't any good for her because Sonia is ready to kick his ass the second he says anything about it.

Manic is just watching this all go down while sipping a milkshake on the couch and not caring much. He thinks Surge just needs to chill out a bit about her hatred for his brother, but otherwise she's cool.

Cue Surge's mind exploding at the realization of Sonic being Sonia's sister, and Sonia desperately trying to not let her kill him. Instead, Surge just does the whole "Ha! I'm dating your sister!" Every time Sonic encounters her and Sonia in public.

I think the dynamic is funny, and kinda adorable.

If you had a daughter and she said she wanted to marry a vampire, how would you react?

Simon Belmont has so rarely needed to direct anger towards his children. Even as they’ve matured into adults, Simon is revered for the calm manner in which he handles all Belmont family affairs, as the reigning patriarch.

But when his only daughter—his youngest, no less—comes to him seeking his blessing for marriage, Simon shows a level a callousness that is reserved only for his worst enemy.

“It is out of the question, Sonia, and you would do well not to entertain the idea any longer.” He concludes, voice low.

He has heard enough of her appeal. And at his resounding refusal, Selena can only watch as her daughter tenses.

Watches with growing sorrow as Sonia fights back against her father.

“Father,” Sonia’s voice is firm, having built herself up gradually against his worsening mood “I assure you, it isn’t what you think—”

“It is clear that you have been thralled into complying with him.” Simon seethes, domineering the space. “I trusted that you could handle yourself against vampires, but I see now that I have been too careless in raising you.”

Sonia opens her mouth to speak, but Simon’s rage still burns:

“You will not marry our sworn enemy. I will not give you my blessing, and should you insist on disobeying me, then you dishonour your Belmont name, and all of your ancestors who have fought before you.”

Selena watches as Sonia processes this, fists balled at her sides.

“Simon,” Selena tries, reaching out a soothing hand on his back. “You mustn’t be so callous. It has taken tremendous courage for Sonia to ask for your blessing.”

“With respect, my love, I ask that you hold your tongue.” Simon frowns, shooting her a disapproving glare. “We have been much too soft on her.”

Selena stands a little taller, mirroring Simon’s frown as her hand slips off of his back. She takes a few paces towards Sonia.

Simon watches as Selena slides a supporting hand on her daughter’s shoulders, instead. A soothing gesture. But she says nothing to her.

“He’s a good man, father.” Sonia tries, defeated, with her head still bowed.

“The only good vampire is one laid to rest.” Simon underlines with malice he didn’t know he was capable of. “You have been thralled into believing otherwise.”

“What of Alucard, then?” Sonia retorts, lifting her head. She stares towards Simon with surmounting vitriol. “Would you liken Alucard to a vampire better off dead?”

Simon’s jaw tightens at that, swallowing his building rage at her blatant disrespect towards her heritage. “Do not challenge me, daughter. This discussion is over.”

“Answer my question, father!” Sonia steps towards him, despite Selena’s attempt to stay her where she is.

In reply, Simon unwinds the whip from his hip, gripping hard on the leather.

“Unless your beloved has revoked his vampire heritage as Alucard did, I will see to it that I slay him myself.”

Selena gasps at that. “Simon, stop this cruelty!”

“Hold your tongue, Selena!” Simon roars at her, stalking towards both, and Simon doesn’t know whether to be impressed or infuriated that both women are standing their ground.

But he can see that Sonia is becoming affected. He only hopes that she might some day understand that he is only doing this out of love and desire to protect her.

By any means necessary.

“It is Alucard.” Sonia tries, at last, strength dissipating as her father towers over her. “The man I want to marry is Alucard, father.”

And that, more than anything else,

causes Simon to boil over.

“Enough! I will not hear any more disrespect!” He shouts. “You are a fool for believing such a bold-faced lie! I did not raise you to succumb so easily to a vampire’s trickery!”

“I invite you to confirm for yourself!” Sonia retorts, eyes glistening with tears. “I have faith that Alucard is strong enough to stand his ground against you, weakened by your years!”

And to that, Selena finally interjects, hoping to diffuse as she gently eases Sonia back:

“Sonia, that’s enough.”

“Bring him here.” Simon accepts the challenge, voice dark and low. “Or would you prefer I seek him out myself?”

And to that, the Vampire Killer in Simon’s hand suddenly resonates with a pulsating warmth.

Both women watch with growing unease as Simon heeds the call, bursting from the Belmont hold with rejuvenated energy.

Outside the hold, a figure stands, leather-clad and cloaked.

It does not move as Simon approaches.

It does not move as Simon winds his whip back, straight to task on snapping it forward to strike it.

Unfortunately no. Vince was never given any actual education. He also wasn't raised or reared to get the talk. It doesn't help that he himself was made from an assortment of manipulated splices and samples and not a living biological mother and father.

That also adds to his belief that procreation is a sci-fi concept that Nate made up for his weird doctor hobbies. Besides the fact that he just doesn't respect or trust Nathaniel.

After all, Vincent was grown to be used and exploited for his body until deterioration, never to improve his mental or developmental faculties. The only reason he was taught basic subjects at all was because illiteracy would prove inconvenient in handling him in the future.

He now spends most of his day learning new topics and exploring, but he's still chronically uninformed and stupidly obtuse. He'll eventually find that Nate was telling the truth.

Sonia tried to live her life without regrets, though she couldn't deny that, in that current moment, she regretted her choices just a little.

It wasn't the array of brightly colored foil, plastic, cardboard, and shrink wrap that adorned her shopping basket. No, it was the way all of those packages all but overflowed from up and over the sides. But she couldn't help it: a trolley had seemed rather excessive for one person. Yet she hadn't been able to resist: a fully legal adult studying abroad in Japan came with certain privileges that being a Hope's Peak student hadn't. Perhaps the most prominent being slightly more lax security and the freedom to not reside in school dormitories, but her family's penthouse condo in Tokyo's Aoyama district was fully staffed with several rotating chefs, plenty of fresh produce, and detailed meal plans to keep the Princess of Novoselic at the pinnacle of health during her Japanese semester abroad from the University of Oxford.

What that state-of-the-art kitchen didn't have, though, was even the slightest crumb of junk food. Not that Sonia believed in snacking between meals most of the time, but there was something to indulging in an excellent horror movie, or anime series, or a gripping Japanese romantic drama with a cup of instant noodles, or a bag of individually-wrapped KitKats, or pizza flavored potato chips.

Therefore, she'd taken it upon herself to embark upon a visit to the supermarket. With its bright lights, neat displays, and a bevy of products available, she'd reached for a basket, bypassed most of the fresh produce, meat, and seafood (she stopped to select packages of strawberries and grapes, each one nearly 1500 yen each), and walked up and down the aisles, picking up a variety of products mostly branded with anime characters from toothpaste to sheet masks, before settling on her chosen destination.

The snack food aisles.

Aisles, plural, as sweet and salty were divided up between two different ones, with soft drinks and prepackaged meals rounding out the list. She played a real life game of Tetris, fitting the various bottles, bags, packets, boxes, and even plastic clamshell containers of chicken karaage and layered sponge cake, into the basket to the best of her ability.

Still, it teetered precariously in her hand as she reached up on her tiptoes, her other hand just grazing the top shelf. Even her modest high-heeled shoes didn't help her reach the bottles of melon soda she desired. "Just...a bit more...!" She murmured in Japanese. She found herself, even whilst on her own, preferring to speak the native language as opposed to Novoselic's primary languages of French and Italian, and the other thirty plus languages she could read, write, and speak to some degree of fluency. It left little room for confusion as to if the blonde-haired, blue-eyed, foreign girl was simply a naive tourist who didn't understand Japanese beyond 'ohayo gozaimasu' and 'anime.' She didn't have a choice being gossiped about as a princess, but she wanted to minimize unkind words said about her as a person simply due to her ethnicity.

Sonia sighed, lowering her heels and her basket to the ground. "If only it was on the shelf below," She muttered. It was terribly unfair: melon soda, like most of the contents of her basket, were rare finds in both England and Novoselic save for a few specialty stores focused on Japanese and Asian products.

I wonder how the Remnants would react to Ryouko. Would they even recognise that it's Junko from her appearance alone? It's been so long since I've read Zero and I could scarcely remember that Naegi, upon meeting Ryouko, thought she looked familiar. Since I ship Junko x Sonia (and therefore Ryouko x Sonia hehe) I'd like to hear your thoughts on this particular pair

Makoto didn't just think Ryouko looked familiar, he outright recognized her! So did Kyouko! The only person who didn't recognize her was Yuto Kamishiro, who never met her before and only knew her from magazines. Everyone in the novel who knew Junko personally actually recognized her.

That's why Makoto is sitting there feeling VERY uncomfortable when Ryouko doesn't recognize Mukuro and being VERY confused when Mukuro doesn't tell Ryouko she's her sister. I think Makoto says outright that he knows her, with Kyouko you have to read in-between the lines a bit.

Therefore... yeah, the Remnants could DEFINITELY recognize Ryouko as Junko! How this relates to Sonia, hmm.

I think she'd be ecstatic, actually, to see a more genuine version of Junko. I think she can kind of recognize that Junko felt the need to act and play personas a lot of times, that her perception of her was kind of just what Junko wanted it to be. There was always this idea that Junko wasn't as human as the rest of them. That she was above it all. As if she wasn't even a real person, but an idea. And I think a lot of the Remnants were happy with it being like this! But. Sonia, who hates being an idea, would always hate that she's doing the same thing to Junko that others have done to her. That she "fell in love with an idea."

So... to have Ryouko, whos a lot more open and genuine? She'd be so ecstatic to finally be able to get to know the girl she loves.

Except. Ryouko isn't some "true" version of Junko; she's much more honest, yeah, but she's not the same as Junko would be if she was just "more honest". She's very specifically a version of Junko without her memories. That changes how she views and looks at the world. How she interactions with it, how she thinks of it. She's not some essential truth of Junko, but she does say some truths about her. Ryouko and Junko are the same person, sure, but they're the same person in massively different circumstances and contexts- memories, just as Mikan says, are a very important component to who you are as a person. Ryouko is Junko, Junko is Ryouko, but they're also different from each other in distinct ways.

Sonia is still loving a incomplete version of Junko.

In a way, you can't separate Junko completely from her lies. They're apart of her; apart of the person Ryouko grew up to be. A more genuine version of Junko? That wouldn't be Junko in the first place. It's the paradox of being a liar. It's the pardox of truth itself. Ryouko is a version of Junko, but she's not her Junko. I wonder what she'd do when she fully reckoned with that... She will never know Junko in her entirety. She will always only love pieces of her. But, that's not so bad, right? Those pieces, after all, were willingly given.

She may fall in love with Ryouko, but it'd be in a different way than how she loved Junko. Because Ryouko will be different from Junko. If Ryouko ever recovered her memories, I could see Sonia genuinely mourning her as if she died. Because in a way, that version of Junko did.
