2016′s HOLIDAY CARD!!! (better late than never, right?)

This is BY FAR my favorite card design that I’ve done! FINALLY getting around to posting it - only barely sort of got them done in time before the end of the year. I had to make a pretty limited run, so most of you won’t have seen them yet. 

 For those of you that are vaguely familiar with art history but not totally certain - Yes, it is Saturday Evening Post, but no, it’s not Normal Rockwell. It’s Leyendecker! Both spectacular artists, and from the same period - but brilliant in different ways. Rockwell captures a life and a spirit and a charm in his illustrations that few others could/can rival, and is easily one of America’s most recognizable illustrators. On the other hand, when it comes to pure clean and simple DESIGN - Leyendecker is perfection. He’s much more clinical, but he was largely based in advertising and design was his big focus - and what a perfectionist. He’d have fit right in at Art Center College of Design! He was influenced a lot by Mucha, who in my opinion is the KING of all things design - but Leyendecker of course put his own recognizable stamp on things. Glistening textures, sharp angles, that signature white paint and visible brush strokes in the background. 

What a delight to research this style for the card, and so much fun to put my own spin on it! I’m thinking the future of my cards may continue to pursue the path of parody... oh the possibilities! (And as always, the model for the cat is my own beloved Kingsley - who may or may not have his own blog some day.)

sugarbush: do you have sweet tooth? if yes, what’s your favorite sweets? if no, why? Im not a big candy bar/milk chocolate person but I love chocoloate chip cookies made with butter and extra yolk and milk chocolate chips instead of semi-sweet, or german chocolate cake or butter loaf

marigold: what’s your favorite tea? Lipton, cold, heavily sweetened, small wedge of lemon squeezed so theres lemon fibers floating in it. And marigolds are a great pest repellent and easy to grow.

dandelion: any special talent that you have?None that I’m aware of sadly ;_;
