Holiday Cards For Sale!

Putting my Holiday Cards up for sale/print, go check them out! The goal is to eventually put up all the cards from years past. They can be put on regular greeting cards and stuff too if you don't want postcards. None of my old images were designed for these templates, so cropping and formatting isn't perfect but it'll do for now! I'd also like to find a website that allows me to design the back side. This year's postcard has gone out to a few family and friends, but I've kept the number limited this year so please don't take it personally if you haven't gotten one! I love you all but honestly my list is so big now I can't keep up! But if you know me and  you desperately need one, please message me with your address and I'll try to get one to you. Or you can get a whole pack of your own cards with the design on them! ;)

2016′s HOLIDAY CARD!!! (better late than never, right?)

This is BY FAR my favorite card design that I’ve done! FINALLY getting around to posting it - only barely sort of got them done in time before the end of the year. I had to make a pretty limited run, so most of you won’t have seen them yet. 

 For those of you that are vaguely familiar with art history but not totally certain - Yes, it is Saturday Evening Post, but no, it’s not Normal Rockwell. It’s Leyendecker! Both spectacular artists, and from the same period - but brilliant in different ways. Rockwell captures a life and a spirit and a charm in his illustrations that few others could/can rival, and is easily one of America’s most recognizable illustrators. On the other hand, when it comes to pure clean and simple DESIGN - Leyendecker is perfection. He’s much more clinical, but he was largely based in advertising and design was his big focus - and what a perfectionist. He’d have fit right in at Art Center College of Design! He was influenced a lot by Mucha, who in my opinion is the KING of all things design - but Leyendecker of course put his own recognizable stamp on things. Glistening textures, sharp angles, that signature white paint and visible brush strokes in the background. 

What a delight to research this style for the card, and so much fun to put my own spin on it! I’m thinking the future of my cards may continue to pursue the path of parody... oh the possibilities! (And as always, the model for the cat is my own beloved Kingsley - who may or may not have his own blog some day.)

I was recently commissioned to do this as a surprise for a friend and former coworker - He and his family are big fans of the Haunted Mansion at Disneyland, so we thought this would be a fitting gift for them! It was a total blast to do caricatures of them all, plus their pets were too awesome not to include. Much love to The Gomez Bunch!  There’s the original digital file, and the print they had made of it in its fancy new frame! <3

Gems are fun. I enjoyed painting a LOT of them a few years ago for Disney Interactive’s “Maleficent Freefall”, and even more for an earlier version of Sony’s recently released “Smurfs: The Lost Village”
