"Eggceptional" or "A Study in Texture": Chocolate Souffle

(Clip Studio Paint, Gouache brush, Dry Gouache brush, minor pencil brush details. 13 colors. 1 hour and 45 minutes, but I did take a break in the middle.) The chocolate sauce is gonna get the table all messy! Not overtly an egg, but souffles are one of the more famous "pompously difficult" desserts because for some reason when we trap the air in it we like it more, and when physics happens and the souffle deflates, we call that a failure and suddenly don't want it? Wild. But the physics and chemistry of a souffle relies on the right matrix of flour and eggs to keep all that gas trapped, so technically this counts for Eggtober! Not sure I like the purple reflected light on the syrup. It looked good when I did a little purple on the souffle itself, but I think that much purple on the sauce clashes with that yellow background. Maybe I'll change it. Maybe not. Whatever happens, I hope @lady-quen's breadbugs enjoy it!

Technically this was done on October 7th, but because I got a last minute, time-sensitive birthday request, and I knew what I wanted to do specifically for 10/8, I postponed this one until today! Deciding what to work on for my next eggy. I suddenly have so many ideas. XD

I made a chocolate souffle for the first time! I hope it came out okay. I need to practice more for my college's standardized culonary test, but I have ample time to do that. Wish me luck!

Formal Night #2 & the Captain’s Farewell Do

Monday 24th February 2025 – Departing Bora Bora.

We didn’t get back to the ship from our ‘shark encounter’ until 4.45 and we had to be in our ‘best bib and tucker’ by 5.45 for the Crew Show!

It was actually worth the rush though, because it was really quite good and the crew dance team were almost a match for the pros!

The Captain gave his little speech and everyone clapped enthusiastically.

Then it was time for dinner in the main restaurant and tonight, as all cruise ships do, they pulled out all the stops (because they want good reviews on the cruise feedback survey!) Luckily, we got in ahead of the rush and managed to get a table served by Min and Dhiraj, who really must be the two best waiters on the ship!

I had the caviar starter – which came, somewhat unusually, on top of smoked haddock parfait. It was quite nice but personally, if I’m having caviar, I prefer it ‘traditional-style’, with sour cream, chives, onion and egg. But that’s just me!

The Mushroom Soup, however, was faultless; we both had that. Then Andrew had the Cannelloni while had the Lobster Thermidor, with mash instead of rice plus green beans.

Lobster Thermidor being one of my all-time favourite dishes, I was a happy man!

Finally, keeping up the Soufflé-for-dessert theme, I had the Chocolate Soufflé with Vanilla Sauce – delicious, especially with a glass of Sauterne suggested by our lovely wine waiter, Jackson! He too has been giving us some sterling service over the last few nights.

Seven Seas Voyager having departed Bora Bora during dinner and with us on an early tour tomorrow in Raiatea, I turned in to wrestle with the ship’s spotty internet service…..!
