About the Possible Deterioration that the curse of Inmortality had on Khaenri'ahns (TL;DR)
CLARIFITACION: This thread was written just after the Caribert Archon Quest came out, and also when I was still an student in Psychology.
- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -
The effects of the curse started to gain my interest since we got the Caribert Archon Quest, because they remind me a bit of neurocognitive disorders.
Tumblr media
First off, I'll use the knowledge I've obtained during my Psychology career, and the sources that were given to me during that time.
Even so, I'd still need an specific specialization to talk confidently about this topic.
So because this is not my specialized field of research, I'll be talking from the knowledge and point of view from when I used to be an student.
I'm open to feedback by any expert in the topic<3
By the way, I'll use the "ND" abrevitation to refer to neurocognitive disorders.
And I'll also use the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (5th ed). I would use the DSM-5 TR (most updated edition) but I still need to get it
If I ever use other sources, I'll add them around the thread.
Tumblr media
First, what are neurocognitive disorders?
In the most simple definition ever, neurocognitive disorders are a group of disorders that affect: memory; behavior; attention; learning; decision making; perception; movement; & language.
These disorders usually happen to older adults by longevity, but they can also be obtained by younger people. The causes can be for genetics, accidents or other unkwown causes.
The thing is, Chlotar had symptoms of these kind of disorders.
Of course we can't classify him with an specific disorder because the symptoms are quite vague, and also I don't have any kind of specialization on the area of neuropsychology.
Tumblr media
Still, we can detect some of the symptoms and understand a bit better in what consists the curse of inmortality.
Along the quest, Dainsleif says that his memory wasn't fully functional due to his long period of existence; here we have a problem with memory, a symptom of ND.
There's a possibility that Dainsleif is actually presenting symptoms of dissociative disorder. People with this disorder tend to live in a constant state of alert, making them to not be totally present during their daily lives; this results in them not remembering important or regular stuff, because their mind were not completely present at the time.
This case can be seen in memories that are partially or totally forgotten.
I'm not really sure if Dainslei actually went through this disorder, but the possibility is there; it seems (not confirmed) that Dainsleif had to endure 500 years in constant danger of the abyss, making him be in a constant state of alert all the time.
Tumblr media
If Chlotar is being serious about this, then here we can find two symptoms of ND: motor skills; & I would also add facial recognition because supposedly he wasn't able to recognize his son, but to be honest his son is a hillichurl & it's totally understandable that he can't distinguish between hillischurls.
Tumblr media

CONTEXT: On Twitter I wrote about making this an on-going thread, so that when we learn new information about the curse, I be able to add it into the thread.

so just realized genshin wiki has officially labeled Anfortas as a member of the Alberich clan and not to be the “um actually-” guy but just know that nowhere is that confirmed. that’s an assumption based off two bits of information: that we know for a fact Anfortas was elected regent after King Irmin fell, and that Kaeya’s father told him that their clan were the regents. I personally always assumed that this meant Kaeya’s father was giving him false (or most likely, delusion) information, and was actually referring to Chlotar’s creation of the Abyss Order. perinheri, however, gives us the tidbit that the Alberichs were a clan of knights and therefore can be a point in favor of Anfortas being part of them

i wanna talk about visions. specifically, kaeya's vision.
this will contain spoilers for the caribert archon quest, as well as spoilers for kaeya's backstory.
(VERY short summary at the bottom btw)
people get visions for different reasons, though it's all based on ambition. there are subcategories for each element, which makes each character of a specific element different.
anemo is for those who have lost someone close to them (like barbatos).
geo is given to people who are strong-willed or hardheaded (like morax).
electro is given to those who are different/cast out [like beelzebul (she was much different than baal)].
I think dendro is given to people who are dedicated to perfecting their skills? I'm not sure on this one but it seems right looking at dendro characters.
hydro is given to people with a strong belief system.
pyro is typically given to people with fiery passion.
and cryo is given to people who have faced conflict. mainly internal conflict (ex. self-hatred, self-deprecation, etc.). it is also given to people who have been isolated or cast out (like ayaka).
but I think that their visions work in different ways for those reasons, too. for example, yoimiya wanted a vision to light fireworks, and her vision gave her the ability to imbue her arrows with pyro energy (allowing her to light them safely from a distance). sucrose was experimenting with anemo energy when she got hers, and she can now freely throw around anemo energy whenever and wherever she wants (she probably uses it most in the lab). beidou got hers after fighting haishan (a deadly sea monster) and she can now parry powerful attacks with ease (something you'd want when fighting huge monsters).
but then there's kaeya. he definitely fits the internal conflict aspect of getting a cryo vision. he (very obviously) hates himself, and he was indeed cast out from his own family. he got his vision when fighting his own brother, and he was literally on the brink of death. if he hadn't gotten his vision in that moment, there would be no kaeya.
let's talk about what his vision does in particular, and why it does those things.
first off, it all seems very, very simple. his skill shoots out a burst of frost, and his burst makes a few icicles.
burst first: they are an obvious reference to the abyss. when cryo abyss mages are reforming their shields, there are icicles flying around them. this is a reference to kaeya's heritage as a descendant of chlotar alberich, the founder of the abyss order.
now, his elemental skill: it shoots out a burst of ice, almost like it's meant to stop an oncoming blast of fire...sound familiar? (*COUGH* DILUC'S BURST *COUGH*) but that's not all it does. his passive, cold-blooded strike, makes his skill heal kaeya. nobody else, just kaeya. hm...i wonder why he'd need to self-heal? (*COUGH* DILUC *COUGH* SELF-HATRED *COUGH*) but wait, there's more! kaeya's c4 (which I recently got) makes him SUMMON A SHIELD when his hp gets below a certain percent...and it only shields him. if you switch characters, the shield disappears until kaeya is back on the field. hm...why would kaeya need a shield when his health gets so low... it's almost like his vision was suited to the EXACT circumstances as when he got it. self-healing and self-shielding. his vision is catered to his fight with diluc.
now that begs the question: why did kaeya, a KHAENRI'AHN, get a vision? the gods hate khaenri'ahns, and celestia eradicated them. and here's the thing: im not sure who exactly gives out visions. it could be celestia, or it could be the archons themselves. so, it's either:
the cryo archon saw potential, or
celestia wants to use him to eradicate the abyss
it's pretty much common knowledge that kaeya's vision is different, and you can't say it's because he's khaenri'ahn. scaramouche was born in inazuma, but has a sumeru vision. this means that the vision case denotes the nation the vision was received in. that's why kaeya has a mond-style case. but why two wings instead of one?
i think it's a marker. so that when celestia decides to finally start yet another war, they know which mond citizen is their little pawn. they know which khaenri'ahn not to kill. they want to use him, to show them that their founder's descendant has learned to live (semi) happily in teyvat.
but hey it's just a theory and this was all done with like. zero research, just my general knowledge on kaeya and his backstory (i love kaeya so general knowledge is. a lot.). i repeat: it's all just theoretical. don't take this as fact I just love kae so so so much and think about him all the time <3
anyways to summarize, kaeya's vision acts the way it does because it's a self-defense mechanism from when diluc almost killed him. and I think it looks different because celestia wants to use him.
ok thanks goodnight

spoilers for the 5.2 archon quest
Capitano reveals that Guthred, Capitano's 2nd in command, died because he was testing the Draught of Lucidity on himself to make sure it's viable as medicine for the Abyssal Corrosion Syndrome. Having the name "Guthred" (German, Frank-ish roots like Caribert, Alberich, etc.) also implies that Guthred is a Khaenri'ahn as well. Since he died and Capitano didn't, does that mean that Khaenri'ahns can die from Abyssal Corrosion?
We already have tons of evidence about the Abyss's effects on hilichurls and other Khaenri'ahns. The "peace" they had when they got closer to Abyssal power, the "cleansing" effect that it had to Dainsleif during the Chasm interlude, and the creation of the Loom of Fate with Chlotar and Caribert.
So does that mean the Abyss is the one power in this world that can actually kill Khaenri'ahns? But why would Celestia curse them all with immortality, and then throw a Celestial Pin into the ground to release Abyssal monsters to massacre them? It doesn't make sense... If the Heavenly Principles wanted Khaenri'ahns gone once and for all, why curse them with immortality in the first place?
One theory that's been going around is that Teyvat has a reincarnation system, especially since all of Teyvat's memories are stored in the tree of Irminsul. So by cursing Khaenri'ah with immortality, they wouldn't be able to reincarnate. But wouldn't that still backfire? I mean, it already did, considering the "World, forget me" thing with Rukkhadevata and forbidden knowledge. Which, by the way, happened at the same time as the Catastrophe. Point is, wouldn't all records of Khaenri'ah still be recorded in the Irminsul even while they're all immortal? They just don't have a way to start a fresh branch.
That begs another question: is the Abyss at all recorded in the Irminsul tree? Were they part of Teyvat as normal beings even before, or did they come from another planet/dimension entirely? Where did they come from, and why are their powers a complete antithesis for elemental energy?
That makes me think that Celestia didn't release the Abyss at all. I think they just happened to destroy a barrier to another world while causing the Khaenri'ahn catastrophe, and when Abyss monsters came from the barrier they literally were like. "Oh fuck let's dip! Thanks for killing them all btw owe u one!"
I truly don't think Celestia is all that smart about ruling Teyvat. They haven't done anything about Irminsul's corruption, Furina/Focalors, and still nothing even after the fake sky got revealed. I wonder what cards they're holding if they are smart, but I wouldn't give them that much credit--I honestly think they're just a bunch of tyrants playing god with stolen power.

I just got an Another Sagau!Idea-
So you know the latest Archon Quest regarding about Khean'riah (or however you spell it), Caribert?
Yeah, so slight spoilers:
What if the Reader, before they lost their memories of being the Creator and all that, met the Traveler's sibling while they were meeting Eide, Caribert, and Chlotar Alberich? Let me explain:
The Reader's presence is special. → I based this fact from the way the Traveler's presence was enough to lessen Xiao's karmic debt. What if the Reader's presence does the same thing to the hilichurl's curse, but by a somewhat larger scale? Just having the Reader present is all that is needed to have the medicine work faster than it did before.
I also think Reader wouldn't reveal themselves as the Creator, instead taking up a disguise when they meet the Abyss Twin and Eide.
The Reader Might Be Eide's better Choice to Ask For a Blessing? → Allow me to elaborate. So, as we all know, most, if not all, kheanrians are atheists or just don't have much faith in gods in general. The Creator is a little different here—the Creator's presence is more of a feeling of safety, a feeling that they have some sort of familiar bond of sorts between the two.
I would think that Eide was see the Creator, aka Reader, as a being far greater than the Dendro Archon, a being with more power. This may have him beg for the Creator's blessing in the end instead of the Dendro Archon. The only problem? We know what the strange mushroom is made out of—the fertilizer to grow it is legit dead humans. I would honestly think the Creator is against this idea, which thus leads to the Reader denying his prayers. Eide may then be forced to beg to the Dendro Archon because of this.
I would honestly imagine that the Creator gives blessings more than most gods, even if they are just small miracles. Reader has balanced the consequences of giving the blessing to Eide, which leads them to refuse to accept his request. However, I think the Reader would change their mind, hoping that if they allowed Caribert to gain consciousness would stop Eide from killing more humans to make fertilizer—
The Reader Could Be Against Chlotar Alberich, Founder of the Abyss Order. → I'm mainly basing this idea off of the beginning of the game. To this, I'm referring to the intro cutscene, where we have to choose a sibling to be the Traveler. I would think the Reader shares a similar mindset to the Traveler—they do not believe what happened to the people of Khean'riah was deserved, but they are against joining the Abyss Order to cause harm to other nations.
I personally believe that Reader would be unhappy that Chlotar has started the Abyss Order to kill of the rest of their precious world. I can't really see the Reader agreeing with killing their own creation, instead trying to convince the Abyss Twin to not join him.
The Reader does not like this "new god" that's being created. → As you may know, human-made gods aren't exactly amazing. Scaramouche is a slight example of that. The Sages tried to create a god from human knowledge, and, in result, Scaramouche became a fake god. But, as you know, his power wasn't exactly as strong as a real god's power would be.
Reader does not like the fact that the Abyss/Abyss Order would go this far to making a god to get rid of the curse befalling on all hilichurls. To them, I would think it's some sort of severe risk. They are highly suspicious of this "god" and would rather find out its true intentions in other methods than cooperate with them. The Creator may be lenient on their creations, but they have to draw lines against them, unfortunately.
Alright, that's all I got for today! I'm sorry if it's a little confusing lol- I didn't fully understand the Archon Quest. See you around :)
Tumblr media
Ghost Rebel Side Notes: I have honestly no idea how this idea emerged into my head lol- but I'm glad it did! Sorry for any grammar mistakes too btw—I don't exactly proofread before I post things.

Since Chlotar Alberich managed to die, I think he did find a cure for the curse of immortality, maybe even for the hillichurl curse? Then he passed it down to his descendants, I mean irl Chlotar had a lot of children besides Caribert, so I think its possible.
The cure could be a secret only the Alberich clan and the Abyss order knows so that's why Dain said that a cure it's impossible.
idk just my two cents about the mystery as to why Kaeya is curseless (I could be very wrong lmao)

CHARACTER INFO- AZRAEL SULIMAN (OC)
Name: Azalea Suliman Alias: Witch of the Wastes, Azrael (Alias) Age: ??? (500+) Height: 5'7" Affiliations: Abyss Order (Co-Founder alongside Chlotar Alberich), The Coven of the Wastes (Founder)
Personality: Narcissistic, a vain individual, and a manipulative woman. Azrael is a scorned woman from Khaenri'ah, one of the many who had beliefs in the gods and yet she was still punished for it- resulting in her bitterness towards the divinity and her sworn vow to destroy them. Azrael is indeed a VERY talented Actress, able to weasel her way back into the lives of her former best friend's family without even tipping off to them she is only there to get what "belongs" to her (Diana's Grimoire). She is a rather smart individual who could and would experiment on anyone close to her or to her former friend, even cursing them to a point to make a jab at them even after her former friends were long deceased. Azrael, deep down, is a vile woman who has cursed the gods and the archons for her situation, for not helping Khaenri'ah, for leaving all of them to die- and her goals are to kill them and hurt them just like they did to the nation of Khaenri'ah. To make them feel as helpless as the citizens were and she will kill, maim, curse, torture, and deform anyone who gets in her way.
Family: Chlotar Alberich (Situationship (kinda unclear ngl); Deceased) Olivia Suliman (Daughter; Alive (@/implexisfatum)
Vision: N/A Weapon: Catalyst
Abilities: Abyssal Manipulation Summoning (Can summon the abyss creatures at her beck and call) Magic (Azrael's VERY well versed in Magic, a potential to be a witch within the Hexenzirkel but she was denied access due to her corruption and affiliations with the abyss)

GENSHIN 3.6 SPOILERS for the Archon Quest Caribert!!
Is Kaeya fucking Caribert? Like it makes sense, but there are so many things wrong with it. Like Kaeya’s a tan character implied to be desi/Indian, while Caribert’s mother is Mondstadtian, and Chlotar isn’t really desi/Indian. Also there’s no reason to think he changed his name at all.
This also indicates that Kaeya isn’t pure blooded Khaenri’ahn, which is completely fine, but makes you question what his excellent bloodline or lineage refers to.
Also, it’s confirmed that Dainsleif is a pure blooded Khaenri’ahn, but he still has some deformation on his body. So.... What the hell Hoyo?

My theory the albrich clan us the original bloodline that founded Khaenri'ah
But i woud't trust dain and chlotar on that part cuz history can easaly be changed either via irminsoul or what the lawronce clan did in mondstad i daubt any of tham know the entier bloodliage from mr Khaenri'ah to kaeya tho
I wonder if the 'true descendant of Khaenri'ah' line used to describe Kaeya in 3.5 refers to the fact that he's actually a descendant while the abyss sibling is not from Khaenri'ah, but they are considered to be the cursed Khaenri'ahns rulers.
A descendant is someone who descends from an ancestor, and Kaeya seems to be a new generation of Khaenri'ahns and mixed blood. Besides, in Dain's first quest, the traveler jokes that Dain is a distant relative of Kaeya because he wears an eyepatch, which can refer to Dain actually being from 500 years ago while Kaeya isn't (maybe, idk about that).

Brunhild, also spelled Brunhilda, Brunhilde, or Brunechildis, French Brunehaut, (born c. 534—died 613, Renève, Burgundy [now in France]), queen of the Frankish kingdom of Austrasia, daughter of the Visigothicking Athanagild, and one of the most forceful figures of the Merovingian age
In 567 Brunhild married Sigebert I, king of Austrasia, changing her religion from Arianism to Roman Catholicism. In the same year, her sister Galswintha married Sigebert’s half brother Chilperic I, king of the western part of the Frankish territory, but in 567 or 568, at the instigation of his concubine Fredegund, Chilperic had Galswintha murdered. Prompted by Brunhild, Sigebert then exacted Galswintha’s marriage settlement (Bordeaux, Limoges, Quercy, Béarn, and Bigorre) as retribution from Chilperic. When Chilperic tried to recover this territory, war broke out between him and Sigebert (573). At first it ran in Sigebert’s favour, but in 575 he was assassinated and Brunhild was imprisoned at Rouen. There, however, Merovech, one of Chilperic’s sons, went through a form of marriage with her (576). Chilperic soon had this union dissolved, but Brunhild was allowed to go to Metz in Austrasia, where her young son Childebert II had been proclaimed king. There she was to assert herself against the Austrasian magnates for the next 30 years. She encouraged the Byzantine-backed pretender Gundoald against Guntram, king of Burgundy, but Guntram made Childebert his heir, placating Brunhild and securing his own position against Gundoald.
After Childebert’s death (595), Brunhild failed to set herself up as guardian over Childebert’s elder son, Theodebert II of Austrasia, and thus stirred up against him his brother Theodoric II, who had succeeded to Burgundy. Theodebert was overthrown in 612, but Theodoric died soon afterward (613), whereupon Brunhild tried to make the latter’s eldest son, the 12-year-old Sigebert II, king of Austrasia. The Austrasian magnates appealed to Chlotar II of Neustria against her. Brunhild tried in vain to enlist the help of the tribes east of the Rhine and then fled to Burgundy. Garnier, the mayor of the palace in Burgundy, was in league with Chlotar, however, and Brunhild’s army refused to fight when it met Chlotar’s on the Aisne River. Brunhild was handed over to Chlotar at Renève (northeast of Dijon). The nearly 80-year-old queen was tortured for three days, bound to a camel and exposed to the mockery of the army, and finally dragged to death at a horse’s tail (autumn 613).
Brunhild’s ashes were interred in a mausoleum erected near the abbey of St. Martin at Autun, which she had founded. Her memory was highly venerated there, but historians throughout the ages have had conflicting opinions about her. Gregory of Tours applauds her for her personal morality and for her political wisdom, whereas Fredegarius treats her with undisguised vitriol. The Franks over whom she sought to rule resented her Gothic origin, and the tragic course of her life has made her a figure of legend.

“About the year 640 an English girl named Balthildis was bought in by the household of Erchinoald, chief minister of the Frankish king, Clovis II. Since the church forbade traffic in Christians, and supposing that the Christian king Clovis observed such niceties, she must have been a pagan, and therefore, quite possibly, from Sussex - the conversion of the kingdom was still forty years in the future. Sussex girl or not, Balthildis was, one assumes, beautiful and certainly a woman of spirit and ambition since Clovis married her. When he died a few years later, Queen Balthildis became regent for their son, Chlotar III and, incidentally, a campaigner against the slave trade. She was a generous benefactor of the monastic movement and in particular the convent of Chelles, near Paris, which she richly endowed and where she may have retired when ousted from the regency in 665.” -A Brief History of the Anglo-Saxons, Geoffrey Hindley
I have done a tiny amount of poking around the internet and haven’t seen any indication of historical fiction or history-inspired fantasy around Queen Balthildis, and now that’s the only thing I want to read. Even hedged about with all the “possiblys” and “one assumes” and “she may have,” there is so much richness in this one brief paragraph! I don’t have enough knowledge of that time period myself to do a proper job on it, but surely someone out there could.

Saint Guntram the Good, King of Burgundy
Commemorated on 28 March
Saint Guntram (c. AD 532 – 28 March AD 592) was King of Burgundy from AD 561 to AD 592. He was the second eldest surviving son of Chlothar I, King of the Franks, and his wife, Ingunda. Upon Clothar’s death in 561, Francia was divided among his four sons, with Guntram receiving the former Kingdom of Burgundy as well as the eastern part of the former Kingdom of Orléans.
Tumblr media
Francia after the death of Clothar I, King of the Franks, AD 561
The preeminent chronicler of the period, St. Gregory of Tours, often called him “good king Gontrand”, as noted in the quotation below from the former’s Decem Libri Historiarum, in which St. Gregory discussed the fate of Guntram’s three marriages:
“The good king Gontrand first took a concubine Veneranda, a slave belonging to one of his people, by whom he had a son Gundobad. Later he married Marcatrude, daughter of Magnar, and sent his son Gundobad to Orléans. But after she had a son Marcatrude was jealous, and proceeded to bring about Gundobad’s death. She sent poison, they say, and poisoned his drink. And upon his death, by God’s judgment she lost the son she had and incurred the hate of the king, was dismissed by him, and died not long after. After her he took Austerchild, also named Bobilla. He had by her two sons, of whom the older was called Clothar and the younger Chlodomer.”
Guntram was eventually overcome with remorse for the sins of his past life, and spent his remaining years repenting of them, both for himself and for his nation. In atonement, he fasted, prayed, wept, and offered himself to God. Throughout the balance of his prosperous reign he attempted to govern by Christian principles. According to St. Gregory of Tours, he was the protector of the oppressed, caregiver to the sick, and the tender parent to his subjects. He was generous with his wealth, especially in times of plague and famine. He strictly and justly enforced the law without respect to person, yet was ever ready to forgive offences against himself, including two attempted assassinations. Guntram munificently built and endowed many churches and monasteries. St. Gregory related that the king performed many miracles both before and after his death, some of which St. Gregory claimed to have witnessed himself.

Saint Guntram, King of Burgundy
In 567, Guntram’s elder brother Charibert I, King of Paris, died, and his lands were divided between the surviving brothers: Guntram of Burgundy, Sigebert I of Austrasia, and Chilperic I of Neustria. They shared his realm, agreeing at first to hold Paris in common. Well endowed with the political skills of prudence and duplicity, Guntram strove to prevent either of his two remaining brothers, Chilperic I and Sigebert I, from gaining too great a power, allying with the one and then the other as circumstances demanded.
After the death of Sigebert I in 575 he protected the interests of the young Childebert II, Sigebert’s son, against the aggressive Chilperic, and recognized Childebert as his heir after his own sons died in 577. When Childebert nevertheless allied with Chilperic against him, he bought off the young king by the cession of territory in 583 and confirmed him as his adopted son—an act all the more necessary as he was also faced with a Byzantine-sponsored usurper, Gundoald, whom he was then able successfully to overcome.

Meeting between St. Guntram and Childebert II of Austrasia
The death of Chilperic I of Neustria in 584 left Guntram master of the scene; he protected the young Chlotar II, Chilperic’s heir, and Fredegund, Chlotar’s mother, but also settled remaining differences with Childebert II of Austrasia by the Treaty of Andelot (587). He then turned his attention to the south in his later years but was twice unsuccessful against the Visigoths.

Francia after the Treaty of Andelot, AD 587
He died at Chalon-sur-Saône in 592, and his nephew Childebert II succeeded him. He was buried in the Church of Saint Marcellus, which he had founded in Chalon. Almost immediately, his subjects proclaimed Guntram a saint. The Huguenots, who scattered his ashes in the 16th century, left only his skull untouched in their fury. It is now kept there in a silver case.

Widow’s Death
Queen Brunhilde, daughter of Visigoth king Athanagild, was wife to Sigebert I of Austrasia, and ruled the kingdom as regent in her son’s name after the death of the king.
Neighboring Neustria was ruled by Chilperic I and Queen Fredegunde. Seeking to expand their kingdom at the expense of their neighbour, they had Sigebert assassinated.
This sparked a long and bloody feud between the two kingdoms. The rift between the countries deepened as the Brunhilde’s and Fredegunde’s relatives were murdered one by one.
Eventually, Brunhilde was betrayed while attending peace negotiations, and was sentenced to death by Chlotar II. This is the pole axe that was used to chop off her head.
