My Favorite Four Films
Nicole Daniels
"Texas Chainsaw Massacre," by Tobe Hooper, 1974:
This film was not only made with great intention, but it was filled with subliminal messages about the political climate of the time. The imaginative way that Tobe Hooper scared us without having to show too much gore was incredible. The emotions that it evoked in me were visceral and cerebral. Throughout the film you are waiting for what is going to pop out next, but the characters were well developed and carried with them interesting and someone complex stories, which made the horror of watching them get “picked off” by this cannibalistic family even more horrifying. Chloe Ziegler of the THE 112C class shows this great promotional poster. She talks about the intention of luring in the horror lover, which I agree with and in 1974, this would have been incredibly intriguing for horror buffs, potentially off putting.
"A Bout De Souffle/Breathless," by Jean- Luc Godard, 1960:
This French Film about a French criminal Michel, (played by Jean-Paul Belmondo) and his love interest and American counterpart Patricia, (played by actor Jean Seaberg,) was exciting and what I would consider to be an unconventional film today. What I loved about the film was the feminine vs. Masculine dynamic and that these two characters developed. It was a gangster film, gone love story gone rogue. Although Michel was a tough guy throughout the film, the character Patricia deeply held control over him and always had an ace up her sleeve. In 1960 to show the woman as the strong character “takes the man,” In the end of the film by her deceit was innovative and pushed the feminist boundaries of the time. Michael Bump of our THE 112C class adds a Roger Ebert review. In Ebert’s review he points to the film and “its dismissal of authority, and the way its narcissistic young heroes are obsessed with themselves and oblivious to the larger society.” This rings through in the film, even when speaking of Patricia not allowing Michel to have authority over her feminine motives and autonomy.
“Forest Gump,” Robert Zemeckis, 1994.
I had to choose Forest Gump as one of my favorite films this quarter because it is one of my favorite films of all time. The acting is uncanny throughout, making the Forest's unrealistic historical association seem believable. Natalyn Wakeling of our THE 112C class quotes Roger Ebert in saying that “[Tom Hanks] performance is a breathtaking balancing act between comedy and sadness, in a story rich in big laughs and quiet truths." (Ebert) This was well stated; his performance was extraordinary and potentially one of the best performances of all time. Rewatching the film was incredible, I loved picking up on some of the messages that I had missed every other time that I have viewed it. I love the building of the characters and the historical events that Zemeckis seamlessly intertwines with Forest Gump’s life, (played by Tom Hanks). A part of the film that hit me differently this time watching it was the relationship between Forest and his Son Forest Jr., (played by Haley Joel Osment). This interaction was more special because I have not watched the film since having my daughter. I loved that throughout the film, Jenny, (played by Robin Wright,) is the main love interest of Forest, yet always unobtainable to him. Through his son, not only will Forest keep a piece of Jenny with him always, but it made all the struggles and cringe worthy moments of Jenny leaving Forest seem to make sense. When Jenny passes, Forest is left with Forest Jr, the true love of his life. To say, it all means something, everything that we do leads us to something, even if it takes heart ache to get there.
“Bram Stokers Dracula,” Francis Ford Coppola, 1994
Rewatching this film was also an awesome experience. It had been a long while since I had seen it and like Forest Gump, I found so many easter eggs and messages that I had not noticed before. Coppola had a wonderful way of capturing the essence of the first Dracula film, “Nosferatu.” Although the first film was silent, the way the shadows and imagery played so much into Coppola’s version carried the same eerie essence. The acting was incredible, especially Gary Oldman's, (who played the count and Dracula.) I did not realize that it was Gary Oldman until watching it this time, he was unrecognizable in his count outfit and even as dracul he carried such a character weight that it was stunning, he became these two characters. What interested me was the idea of reincarnation and soul mate type love. I had missed this is the gore watching it previously. Although gory and brutal at times, the sacrificial scene with the succubus vampires and the infant being extremely difficult to eye. The film is still one of love, a bloodier version of Romeo and Juliette, showing that love can be more powerful than anything else and that life may have broken down Dracula though time, making him a monster, he still had the potential to love. Ronnie Bitzer (of our THE 112C film class,) quotes a New York Times review in which the author describes Coppola as “creating his own wild dream of a movie.” I agree with this review, Bram Stoker’s Dracula certainly felt like a bewildering dream at times, a nightmare at others, but imaginative and inventive all the same.

What makes me laugh is that Chloe and Louis are acting like they’re never gonna see Nicky again. Like guys just text her and meet her ffs just because she’s left the hospital it doesn’t mean she’s disappearing off the face of the earth. (Come on Louis you could still date her once the Cam stuff has calmed down it’s not the end of the road for this I refuse to believe it.)

Rewatching last week’s ep now, and how have I only just realised how triggering it must have been for poor Chloe to have to treat a rapist?!
I didn’t think too hard about Chloe being Reyhan’s doctor when the ep aired (I was too busy focusing on all the other stuff going on), but watching it back now, it’s no wonder she was so hesitant about it. :(
#Holby City#Chloe Godard#tw;rape mention#henrik csa storyline#tbh this is probably down to how amy lennox played it more than anything#i don't trust the writers to have remembered everything chloe went through with evan

Holby City s22e42
Essentially......
ANGEL GODARD DESERVES BETTER!!
Poor Ange is going to have more trauma to deal with on top of her existing trauma. Which I think she never dealt with in the first place. Not properly anyway. Essentially the universe has been pretty shit to her.
I predict Ange having some sort of stay in hospital after all this. I mean she’s got to get those drugs flushed out of her system for starters. I just hope both Dom and Chloe are involved in her recovery storyline.
Chloe Godard is so her mothers daughter and I’m so here for that.

Ange Godard || Losing a daughter
Ange's P.o.V "I'm very sorry Miss Cooper, Mr Cartwright but there isn't a chance that Holly will recover. I'm very sorry," I say sadly. "No she isn't dead... She was responding to the tests. S-She can't-t be dead," Miss Cooper stuttered after hearing the sad news. "She won't be able to do anything for herself, she will need a machine to help her do everything, eat. move, think. She won't be able to do anything on her own," Chloe snaps. "Chloe! Outside," I say looking at my daughter. I walk outside the room with Chloe following. "Mu-" She begins. "No this is the reason you are not on this case anymore. I appreciate that you have become close to Holly but that is no reason to snap at her parents. They are losing their daughter. It's hard enough for them without you snapping at them too," I say looking at Chloe who is clearly upset. "Yeah I know, sorry. But keeping her on life support on the minimal chance that she will wake up is not fair to Holly. Even if she does wake up, she will be unable to anything herself," she replies. "I know that you know that and deep down Miss Cooper knows it but she doesn't want to accept it. She's about to lose their daughter Chloe. She's 16-years-old, she had her whole life ahead of her. Nobody wants Holly to dies. I know you don't like seeing Holly like this, but snapping at her parents is inappropriate," I say. "I know. I'm sorry. Please come and tell me if there are any developments. I'll apologize to her parents and I'll be on Darwin," Chloe says going into Holly's room to apologize. I wait outside until Chloe has apologized and watched her walk to the lift. I sigh, this isn't how it should be, parents shouldn't have to say goodbye to their children. I walk back into Holly's room. "I'm sorry for Ms. Godard's outburst, but I assure you we all want the best for Holly," I say. "Thank you, Doctor," Mr. Cartwright says looking at me. "Have you eaten today?" I question looking at the pair. "What do you think?" Miss Cooper says looking away from Holly. "Please go and grab a bite to eat," I say looking at Holly, "I'll stay with Holly." They both stand up and walk out after saying goodbye to Holly. I sit in the chair next to Holly, the one Miss Cooper had recently vacated. "Holly, I don't know if you can hear me, but I'm sorry. Your parents don't mean to argue, they just want the best for you," I say as tears gather in my eyes. I try to blink them back, urging them not to fall. I need to be strong. For Holly, for Holly's parents, and for Chloe. The tears start to fall fast, "I'm sorry Holly," I say holding her delicate hands in my own.

Chloe Godard || Losing Control
- Trigger Warning - self harm & s*icide
Ange's P.o.V
As I arrive to YAU I notice Dom and Essie over by a young patient. "Dom, what's the issue here?" I ask as I pick up the girls file. "This is Angela Mason, 17-years-old. She was admitted 30 minutes ago after she fainted in college," Dom replies looking at me. "Have you ordered Bloods?" I question with my mind on my daughter. "Yes, just waiting for the results," Essie responds quickly. "Alright good, come and find me when we get the results," I say as I turn around and walk towards Pulses.
"Ms Godard?" A male voice calls from behind me. I turn around to see Cameron. "Yes Doctor Dunn?" I question waiting for his next question. "How is Chloe? Is there anything we can do you help her?" He questions. "How do you think she is Doctor Dunn?" I snap but before he could respond I turn around and carry on my walk to Pulses. I order my usual before sitting down at one of the free tables.
"Ange," Fletch says snapping me out of my thoughts as he sits down in the chair opposite me. "How are you doing?" "I don't know Fletch... I thought I was okay, but honestly I cannot take my mind off her," I sigh. Fletch stands up and wraps his arms around me as I bury my face into his chest. "Ange, hows Chloe?" Kian asks as he comes behind me. "As well as can be expected with everything she has gone through," I respond turning to face him. I excuse myself and walk back to YAU.
"Ange, Angela's test results are back and she has one of her college tutors with her. She has expressed concerns about her eating habits," Essie days as we walk over to the patients. "Hello Angela, my names Ange Godard and I'm gonna be your Doctor while you're here," I say to the patient. "Is she going to be okay?" The woman at the side of the bed questions. "From what we can tell, it's nothing serious but we would like to keep her in for a few more tests. But could you give us a moment please? Maybe go get a cup of tea?" I say. "Of course," she responds as she picks up her bad and leaves.
I sit down on the edge of the bed, "Angela can you tell me when the last time you went lightheaded or collapsed was?" I ask. "Erm... Quite a lot. I go lightheaded when I'm moving or first stand up," she responds quietly. "Can you tell me when the last time you ate a full meal? As you are visibly underweight," I question gently, as I know that if I push her she has a chance of shutting down. "I... Erm... Don't know," she answers truthfully. "I'm going to order a few more tests and I will be back shortly," I say riding from my seat at the edge of her bed.
I find myself walking to the entrance of the hospitals and walk towards a nearby vacant bench. I pull my phone and e-cigarette out and call Chloe, but she doesn't answer. She was supposed to be coming back to work today, maybe she's with a patient? I take a few more drags and put my ecig back in my pocket before walking back inside the hospital, heading up to Darwin.
When I get up to Darwin, I see Jac Naylor sat at the desk and walk over to her. "Ms Naylor, has you seen Chloe?" "No, she hasn't turned up yet," Jac responds. "What do you mean she hasn't turned up? Do you know where she is? " I question. "Do I look like her secretary to you?" She responds before getting up and walking towards a patient. I sigh and walk back towards the elevator and call Chloe again, again she doesn't pick up. I keep calling until I arrive at AAU and go find Cameron.
"Doctor Dunn. Cameron!" I shout jogging over to him. "Ange? Are you okay? Is Chloe okay?" He questions obviously worries. "I honestly don't know, that's what brought me here. Can I borrow your key so I can go and check in her?" I say. "Of course, I need to get it out of my locker," he replies as we walk towards the locker room.
Chloe's P.o.V As I grab my jacket so I can leave for work I hear the door open. I grab my phone from the counter, "Nicky? Cam?" I shout with panic evident in my voice.
"Chloe relax it's me," mum shouts back as she walks into view.
"Mum what are you doing here?"
"Well, when you didn't answer any of my calls, I got worried. So, I got Cameron's key and decided to come around to check on you," she responds as if it was obvious.
"Well I can't stay to chat, I've got to get to work," I say as I walk out of the door with my mother following me. I turn to lock the door and walk to my car.
"Chloe, please talk to me," mum says as she walks in front of me, holding my car door.
I sigh, "talk about what? There's nothing I can say that you don't already know." She moves her arm as I climb into my car, "I'll see you at work mum."
Ange's P.o.V
I watch Chloe's car disappear around the corner before walking back to my own car and driving to work.
Once I arrive at work, I climb out of my car and go straight to Cameron to return his key, "Cameron, thanks for the key."
"Is Chloe okay?" he questions.
"You mean you haven't seen her?" I question worried, she should have arrived by now.
"No."
I turn on my heels and head up to Darwin and over to Jac Naylor's office. I knock on the door and walk in.
"Has Chloe arrived yet?" I ask quickly.
"No, when she does arrive please tell her to come to my office," Jac responds. I turn to leave. "Ms Godard, how has she been?"
"She's cut everyone out... I honestly don't know, she wont talk to me. The only thing she has been interested in is work..." I respond as I leave Jac's office.
