i'm also thinking about jac and how she would just eat everyone up if she were given any kind of authority in such a chaotic environment. terrifying!! dom clowning around like trapper does, perhaps? serena is absolutely the one making seductive phone calls to the upper brass to get her way. henrik would be so miserable trying to oversee this situation but would also be so good and compassionate...

The wording of my username is in particular from a Holby City character (UK hospital drama) Serena Campbell who is also a late in life discoverer of her lesbianism and otherwise a similar character who says to herself in her journey of self discovery with delighted surprise: "who'd have thought it. Serena Campbell. Lesbian."

Holby City also does late in life homosexual discovery with CEO Henrik Hanssen as one of the very last storylines of the show. Him and a guy who he met offscreen by saving him from a shark bite while on holiday (lmao!!) fall in love in their 50s. Shark Bite is NOT good enough for Henrik but I'm so happy for him being queer 🥰

Harry had been thinking about the hospital he had worked at a while ago. He had been asked about going back there. At the same time, he was also asked about working at a hospital in London. Now he had a choice to make. At Holby City ED, there had been the whole thing about him going to the media about something that had gone on in the department with one of the doctors and the big bosses were trying to hide the truth. He wanted the truth to be out for the sake of that doctor and he resigned from his job there before they could fire him for doing what he did. Now those big bosses no longer worked there and he had been asked to come back as well. Then there was this hospital in London.

He decided on the London hospital. At least for now. His two older daughters, Tally and Kizzy had moved out and leading their own lives, his sons Jordan and Ollie were in uni so they had recently moved out and his youngest daughter, Daisy was 7 years old and at school in the day, and looked after by the childminder if he was working. It seemed odd going from a house full to just himself and Daisy now. Parking his car, he headed inside. New place of work, yet same position of being the one in charge of the Emergency department. He had taking his stuff up to his office before coming back down and introducing himself. He had no idea what was going to be in store for his first day here.

She does magic flawlessly (most of the time) and she's got a good head on her shoulders. She super chill about being in danger as best friend of the chosen one and she is always ready to help. She's also a really good balance of funny and getting into antics versus being the level-headed person in the friend group who can come up with great plans.

Happy Birthday Scottish actress Laurie Brett.

Laurie was born in Hamilton on 28th March 1969. After her initial education in Scotland she studied at London Studio Centre a dance and theatre school providing courses in, ballet, modern dance and music, among other things.

While she was studying she earned her living as a bouncer in a nightclub, as an usherette and as a stage technician.

She toured with a travelling circus in Mexico and Central America with Circo Magico and studied at the London Studio Centre. She starred in fringe productions and made her television debut in London’s Burning (as an office girl) in 1992. Her singing and dancing skills made her a regular in the musical theatre and she appeared in several television advertisements. Laurie admits to having been a bit of a wild child, carrying on the Scottish tradition of drinking heavily for 20 years.

When Laurie moved to London she adopted the accent to help win parts, but in her everyday life she still speaks in a Scottish accent, she said she has always had a “knack” with accents, Waterloo Road fans will remember that home accent when she was in the series for 3 years. Brett has never been shy of talking about her home town, but she is still surprised by how many people don't realise she is a Scot and said in an interview in 2013 that she loves to watch people's reactions when she speaks in a Scottish accent. She added "When I am in London I tend to have a London accent, when I speak to my mum, Anne, I talk pure Hamilton and when I speak to my Aussie mates I end up talking like them.

Other shows Laurie has appeared in are The Bill, My Hero, London Kills, Traces, and Deadwater Fell alongside the popular Scottish actor David Tennant, she last popped up in the Hospital drama Holby city last year. Brett and her onscreen hubbie from Eastenders recently teamed up together on stage in a thriller called Looking Good Dead. On a possible return to the soap she said. If I was free and they wanted me back, who knows? If you’ve not been killed off then there’s always the possibility of a return. “

Laurie appeared in season 8 of the popular Scottish crime drama Shetland, she is joining the touring cast of Calendar Girls the musical, playing Annie Clarke.

Laurie has been inundated with support after opening up on recent surgery. Lofty of BBC's Holby City was maybe one of the worst characters on the show. Is this a hot take? Do people outside of me and my family somehow adore Lofty? I can't imagine how. Here is my hateful mean and nasty reasoning. Read at your own risk I'm not accepting criticism at this time lmao:

A) he was effective comic relief on Casualty because it's the Emergency Department and moments of Lofty tripping over or doing a social faux pas are necessary tension breakers in episodes where people are constantly at deaths door.

Casualty is (when it's GOOD) required to have at least a third of the episode dedicated to a narsty horrible accident (hell yeah) and tensions are always running high so you can see how having someone a be awkward is not going to be the worst thing that happened to them that day.

Holby City is a more hospital staff focused show (although again. If there's less than a third of an episode focused on patients it is probably a bad episode. PLEASE HAVE PATIENTS IN YOUR HOSPITAL SHOW.) but there's a lot of waiting around for people in Holby because it's the longer term care zone. If Lofty is dropping stuff in the background of scenes with this lower energy it suggests he has some sort of untreated disability rather than 'argh I'm frantic OOPS'. He is painted more as incompetent on Holby compared to their more grounded staff. Which makes everyone ELSE look incompetent for putting up with it. (To be clear!!!! I'm not saying people with disabilities are incompetent lol if he had one it would have been a storyline!! And if he had one and none of the doctors who see him every day flagged it it also makes them look incompetent. He doesn't CARE enough to be CAREful. And in a show ABOUT caring for vulnerable people as far as you absolutely can. That's a big problem.)

Like the thing is. Characters on Casualty can be one note architypes forever because they're doing medical CSI. Holby spends so much more time with the cast, they NEED to become more complicated and Lofty never does, he's the same guy no matter what happens. The only other guy like that in Holby is the incomparable Guy Self and he's a villain! He is a villain for never changing or trying for anyone! And even he TRIES to reform occasionally. Lofty (and the SHOW) doesn't see a problem with him perpetually disengaging from making emotional choices, putting most of the work of maintaining relationships on other people, and generally coasting through a profession that everyone else is giving 110% to. The building could be on fire and he'd wander outside and not think to rescue any of the patients unless someone else told him to.

B) the B is for Bisexual. Bisexual representation on Holby City where he cheats on his husband with a woman. It's a yikes from me.

C) speaking of Dom. God their relationship was horrible. POOR FUCKING DOM. tw abuse. Lofty talks to and believes Dom's abusive ex over him? He hugs the guy that RECENTLY pushed Dom down a flight of stairs? And they're still supposed to be a cutesy couple by the end of this? He shuts down Dom's excitement constantly? Hello??

D) the D is again for Dom because. It's their one year anniversary. By the way it was on their honeymoon that Dom couldn't go on to support his sick mother that Lofty cheated on Dom. Just by the way. BY THE WAY if your husband says he's going to stay home for your honeymoon and insists you go by yourself so he can stay home to support his sick mother. Maybe. Hm. Stay and support him instead. Just a fucking thought.

Lofty decides it's not working and they amicably split up (Dom is an angel sent from gay heaven by the way. I perhaps have my biases.) Dom kindly gives him the quirky and personal gift he'd bought him for their one year wedding anniversary as Lofty unicycles away (it may have been a bicycle but I picture it as a unicycle). Lofty gives him. Nothing. Which means that this man sat there as they planned a big anniversary party and not ONCE. not ONCE did he consider buying Dom an anniversary present. Because he's an arse!!!!

E) he only does this :| or this :/ for any emotion. I love characters with flat affects, for example my close personal friends Hannah Supernatural, Abed Community, and also as well my actual real human friends who do this 💖💖💖. HOWEVER. Lofty doesn't show emotion any OTHER way either. There IS nothing going on in his heart. He has passion for nothing. He goes where other people point. He avoids giving his opinion because he doesn't have any. This makes him a bad tv character for a drama. Opinion IS story on Holby. There is an issue, they all take sides and fight over it, and he doesn't get involved.

Anyway. Show's been over for over a year I will never have to see Lofty's face ever again as long as I live unless I for some reason decide to do a bizarre Holby City Rewatch and keep going to season 19.

By the way as I was looking up when he came to the Holby side of Holby City Hospital, I found this quote from his wiki page:

"Lofty is portrayed as a nice person who is likeable and popular."

Hm. He IS PORTRAYED as a nice person. The show thinks he's a nice person who is likable. However.

And to think that now, that's me - I get to work with real life Jacs and Friedas everyday. so holby city's a medical drama series; it focuses on the lives of various doctors, nurses, and ( sometimes ) their patients. it's been running since '99?? and has over 1000 episodes. wild

my grandparents love watching medical shows so i got my love of it from them 😅 tbf character focused series have always been up my alley, so regardless, i would've loved it anyway but i digress

the guy with the glasses is the ceo of the hospital; henrik hanssen. he pretty much does have the 'done with everything' attitude, but 🤣 he's just very meticulous and professional, keeping his emotions guarded but showing a softer side every and then. he's very tragic and very bisexual - again, right up my alley 🤣 - so if you're into that archetype then there're vids on youtube solely dedicated to clips of him in various eps ^ ^ but if not then 'course the show itself is worth watching if you like hospital dramas ‼️
