Penny, The Rescuers
So I was a bit pissed off when some dude bros (and some nasty women) complaint on social media about Penny; saying things like how boring her character was and she wasn’t like any of those “strong” princesses.
First of all, she was a CHILD. She was around five to six years old in the movie, and also an orphan. She didn’t have any friends except for an old cat named Rufus at the orphanage.
And then she was KIDNAPPED by a nasty woman named Madame Medusa, an antique dealer who brought her to a river boat. She was forced to get into a small bucket and thrown into a hole to find a freaking diamond while sometimes sea water almost drown her.
She was also being verbally abused by Medusa that she was so ugly, nobody wanted her. Medusa even threatened to “kill” her teddy bear if she didn’t do what the lady said. I dare y’all not to cry to see this little girl holding everything to herself while hearing Medusa just sweetly called her useless.
On top of all that, she was calm and collected, and even brave enough to sent a message in a bottle where The Rescuers found it. She never wailed while crying, although she deserved a good cry. When she found out that her rescuers were a bunch of mice, she was disappointed at first, but both Bernard and Ms. Bianca were good to her, and encouraged her to take some action.
She realized she needed to rescue herself, grabbed the diamond, and ran off the boat (after the swamp creatures wrecked some havoc to Medusa and her boat) on her own, driving away with the speed boat. She went home to New York orphanage, got adopted, and gave the diamond to a museum. She became famous and being called a hero. But she didn’t care with any of that; she found a loving parents, and the scene where her adoptive parents kissed her and hugged her, it was so beautiful. And she found friends in a form of small mice, and she thanked them.
Despite her youth, Penny breaks the traditional mold of the "damsel in distress" prototype by repeatedly making an effort to rescue herself, rather than wait passively to be found and rescued. She was only five years old and very shy, but the fact that she was defiant against Medusa and her crony (I forgot his name) and didn’t give up makes her a very interesting character. Everyday she tried to escape but always failed, however she kept trying.
She should become a role model for children. People calling her boring and weak especially from dude bros is a testament that they didn’t watch the movie because I don’t think they’d be able to handle a kidnapping situation where they’d have to face huge crocodiles, dangerous swamp, a trigger happy nasty crazy woman, a water hole, and death threats - and she was only FIVE/SIX YEARS OLD. How dare they called her boring and weak!
Just because she didn’t have magic powers, a fairy godmother, gods, spirits, a prince, or even a weapon (but her small critter friends) didn’t make her boring and weak. Her character development was good; from an insecure first grader to this brave little girl who would not give up and rescued herself. She was a strong good character.
Respect Penny!

Penny Poll Preliminary Match 12
Penelope "Penny" Bunce (The Simon Snow Series)
Penny Pepper-Bean (Doctor Who)
Penny Valentine (Holby City)
Penny (The Rescuers)
I hope that Penny Bunce art is some level of official because it was on the wiki
Only two will move on
Propaganda under the cut
Penelope "Penny" Bunce (The Simon Snow Series) Propaganda
She's the best friend of Simon Snow, the worst chosen one ever, and she's a great mentor, friend, and magician. She does magic flawlessly (most of the time) and she's got a good head on her shoulders. She super chill about being in danger as best friend of the chosen one and she is always ready to help. She's also a really good balance of funny and getting into antics versus being the level-headed person in the friend group who can come up with great plans.
Penny Pepper-Bean (Doctor Who) Propaganda
The mother of Lindy Pepper-Bean who for some reason resembles other women that the Doctor has met in his travels...
Penny Valentine (Holby City) Propaganda
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Penny_Valentine_(Holby_City)
Penny was introduced alongside her younger brother, Oliver (James Anderson), as a Foundation House Officer 1 (F1) on surgical rotation at Holby City Hospital. She eventually progressed to F2 level, before being killed off in the aftermath of a train crash; her death occurring off-screen.
Penny (The Rescuers) propaganda
Just a lil baby orphan girl

Penny’s First Day (A “The Rescuers” Regression Fic)
Penny has a rough first day of school, but her parents are supportive. Suggest by a deleted account - please feel free to message me if you have a new account you’d like me to tag! 🙂
~~~~~~~~
She had agreed to leave Teddy at home. Mommy had explained, as gently as she could, that some of the other children might be mean to her for bringing Teddy along; but at the end of the day, it was her choice.
Penny had thought about Medusa, snatching Teddy from her hands, and decided it was better to leave him at home where he would be safe.
Mommy had kissed her cheeks and fussed with her hair; Daddy had promised to take her to her favorite restaurant for dinner; both of them had held her hands all the way to school. And Penny had felt proud, despite the butterflies in her tummy. I’m a big girl now. I’m going to school.
The shine wore off almost as soon as her parents left. Penny watched their retreating backs and went to hug Teddy - but all she had was her school bag. Her eyes welled up with tears, but she forced them down. She was a big girl. She would be okay.
~
By lunch time, three different grownups had asked Penny if she was okay. By art time, she’d been sent to the nurse. Her teacher asked several times if she wanted him to call her parents. Penny - pale and shaking and bleary-eyed - said no.
Finally the day ended, and she slowly walked out of the school building. Mommy and Daddy were standing there, waiting - but Teddy wasn’t with them.
The tears finally started. Penny ran to Daddy and sobbed against his jacket, going limp as he picked her up.
“Penny,” Mommy said softly, “what’s wrong?”
“T-Ted-ddy,” Penny bawled, clinging to her father.
“Ah,” Daddy said, gently patting her back. “Let’s go home and check on him, alright?”
Penny nodded, but didn’t release her grip. Her father made no effort to set her down.
~
Penny practically flew across her bedroom to reach Teddy. She wrapped her arms tightly around him and fresh sobs shook her body.
Mommy, who’d been trying to soothe the girl ever since they left the school, now knelt down and took Penny’s face in her hands. “My poor little girl,” she murmured sympathetically.
Penny squeezed her eyes shut, but her tears kept coming. “I- I- I’m so-orry,” she sobbed.
“Oh, no, sweetheart,” Daddy cooed, gently touching her shoulder. “You have nothing to be sorry for.”
“ ‘M not… not a big girl,” Penny continued, wiping at her eyes. She was still crying, though she was starting to feel less miserable.
“That’s okay,” Mommy cooed gently. “Daddy and I love you exactly as you are, no matter how big or small you feel.”
Penny nodded slightly, leaning forward and letting Mommy pick her up.
Daddy kissed Penny’s damp cheek, making her giggle slightly. “Do you still want to go out for dinner, little mouse? We can eat here at home instead.”
Penny thought for a moment. “Home, please.”
Mommy nodded, shifting the little girl in her arms. “I think Daddy’s famous pasta is just what we need right now. What do you think?”
Penny nodded, smiling slightly.
Daddy rolled up his shirt sleeves. “Alright, I’ll go get it started. Maybe you lovely ladies can find something fun on television.”
Mommy nodded, following Daddy out of the bedroom and down the stairs.
Penny yawned as Mommy set her on the couch, curling into a ball. She watched with drooping eyes as Mommy flipped through the channels, eventually stopping on a puppet show. Mommy sat down beside Penny, spreading a throw blanket over her.
“I love you, Penny,” Mommy whispered; and Penny smiled slightly, knowing she meant it.
