Bo the Qilin by @momolady ! If you haven’t read it before and love monster romance, go check it out!
As always, this started as an exercise in simplifying shapes and a faster process, and then next thing I know I’m working on this piece over the course of a few weeks. So much for that exercise! But it was a great excuse to do a lot of pinks and purples, which I don’t use all that often in my pieces.

Took an interest in Sun Wukong lately, decided to try my hand at chara designing him !
I'm quite happy about the face sheet, I don't usually do these, and while they're not amazing, I'm happy to have at least tried to do it :)
(The law of equivalent exchange states that I must sacrifice the turnaround in exchange, though :>)

Happy Lunar New Year, fellow goblins!
Today (10th February) officially marks the first day in accordance with the lunar calendar. This year belongs to the Wood Dragon. 🪵🌳🐉 💖
Those born under the only mythical animal zodiac sign are said to be charismatic, intelligent, confident, and ambitious. They are natural born leaders who are innately lucky and gifted, but may become arrogant due to their skills. This can lead to setbacks and failures if they are not careful.
Wood Dragons in particular are characterised for being full of energy, passion and dedication. They have dreams of changing the world and are good at coming up with innovative ideas and implementing them.
Wishing all of us the very best year to come, and may the Wood Dragon bring us lots of happiness and positive change in these turbulent times. 💖

The Huan [Chinese mythology]
Tumblr media
The Shan Hai Jing (or ‘Classic of Mountains and Seas’) is an ancient Chinese work written between the 4th to 1st century BC. Among many other strange fictional creatures and monsters described in this tome is the Huan, a mysterious animal resembling a wildcat except for its three tails. The creature has a singular eye on its forehead.
Its signature ability is its voice, which can mimic all kinds of different sounds. Aside from that, it is said that a Huan has the power to ward off evil and that if you manage to kill one, you can fashion accessories from its remains that can cure jaundice in the wearer.
While the Huan’s habitat is listed as ‘Wing-View Mountain’, it is unclear where exactly this mountain would be located. No trees or other plants are known to grow there, but the mountain itself is rich in jade and metal deposits.

Phoenix for February's sticker club! Y'all are getting this sticker and another postcard for February ☺. The western phoenix is known for its reincarnation. The Chinese phoenix is known for being the feminine counterpart to the masculine dragon.

Serpentine Drum Stand From The Warring States Period
Another surrealist masterpiece. Artifacts like this make Warring States one of my favorite eras.)
The stand is conceived for the Jian type drum (建鼓), a double-headed drum with a pole, fixed on this base. The drum was skewered on a pole, just like an olive on a toothpick:

The top of the pole was often ornate with fluttering feathers (羽葆), the structure itself being reminiscent of the archetypal Axis Mundi and the World Tree. The motif of ascent to the heavenly realms thanks to drumming is characteristic of shaman beliefs.

Han dynasty relief depicting the Ascension to Heavens. A pole with a two-headed Jian drum is portrayed in a shamanic manner, as the World Axis, piercing the realms. Jiangsu Normal University Museum (江蘇師範大學博物館).
The slot is surrounded by sixteen principal serpentine beings with progressing in fractal minor ones. They were inlaid with now lost turquoise.
Although intricate, the base is symmetrical. Four rings along the contour were used as carrying handles. The weight of the device is impressive: more than 192 kg. Unearthed in 1978 from the tomb of Marquis Yi of Zeng (Leigudun Tomb No.1 ), Suizhou, Hubei. On display in Hubei Provincial Museum (湖北省博物館).

A commission I ordered from kazumitakashi
This kotobuki is a fusion of all 13 Celestial Brush gods (including Amaterasu in full power), being even more powerful than Shiranui; strength, speed, skills, and smarts are, with no doubt, way off the charts! As a bonus, the weapon is an energy chakram.
