Funny how both Hercules: The Legendary Journeys and Blood of Zeus portray Hera as this evil shrewish wife while portraying Zeus in a more positive light even giving him a “redemption arc” even tho he very much still raped the protagonists mothers.
#what’s worse is both of these shows are popular and will (has) heavily influence how ppl view Zeus#Hera and their marriage#i hate it here#greek mythology#ancient greek mythology#greek pantheon#greek goddess#hera#hera goddess#hera deity#hera greek mythology#zeus#children of zeus#zeus greek mythology#blood of zeus#zeus deity#hera x zeus#Heracles#Hercules#hercules the legendary journeys

like i see people say stuff like “rei is a deconstruction of the idea of like the perfect girl in a male gaze-y way” and and i'm ready to agree until they go “it’s because she’s creepy and weird and bad!” like no. rei's a deconstruction of misogynistic ideas of womanhood because they’re ideals forced upon her that damage her, not because she’s in any way “creepy”. like, the fact she’s a fourteen year old girl who was basically used as a substitute wife by her father bc she looked like his own dead wife is not something that is meant to make rei look bad like holy shit.
like both rei and asuka are very obviously like. showing fantasised and misogynistic ideas of an idealised woman don’t work irl yeah. shinji's misogynistic view of them is wrong. but that’s not because rei and asuka are bad people it’s because like. “fourteen year old who's flirty and seductive” and “fourteen year old who's a quiet obedient object” are major signs of abuse and trauma and anyone actually acting in those ways at that age clearly isn’t normal. asuka is desperate for attention in any way she can get it, even unhealthy and dangerous ways. rei is at the very least I has a weird pseudo-incestous enmeshment filled abusive relationship with her father, even if she's not actively being sexually abused. asuka is seeking support, rei is a grooming victim. these are not things that are flaws in their character the entire point of subverting the expectations is to show how those expectations are unhealthy to rei and asuka like. god.
#like. negative fucking media literacy.#like. rei and asuka show signs of abuse in ways very normal for teenagers#every one of the Children in Evangelion is a victim and they react in messy ways#the point of that isn’t to show that they themselves are bad. it’s to show how trauma fucks you up#like none of them are bad people! they do fucked up shit bc it’s normalised to them!#people will just centre rei and asuka’s trauma around shinji and then call the show misogynistic for that like.#woah pal. there’s issues in the show yeah but i think that’s more an issue on your end buckaroo.#like their trauma interacts with him. and his trauma interacts with them. bc the show is literally about human's influences on each other#like the human instrumentality project isn’t there to just be funny it’s a thematic conclusion???#and also like. it’s comparing and contrasting all threes trauma to understand exactly how they got shaped the way they are.#just. think about the show you’re watching. please.#rei isn’t creepy she’s a schizophrenic abuse victim who's probably done the least screwed up shit out of the main cast#shinji isn’t a loser he's a heavily mentally ill young boy cracking under the pressure of toxic masculinity and having his boundaries erode#until he's unable to even respect the boundaries of others and recreates his trauma for a desperate attempt at control#asuka isn’t like. okay i mean she IS a bitch but literally so is every thirteen year old ok.#and it’s bc she fucking despises the vulnerability being kind shows. she despises herself and is overcompensating bc she’s scared and 13#like. god.

All the most important mentor-tribute duos are a boy and a girl, except for Marcus and Sejanus… gay
#excluding brandy and arachne but they die early on#yes it’s bc strabo bought sejanus the mentorship for district 2 specifically yada yada#but still why not the girl#yes it’s for plot reasons cause marcus is extremely important to sejanus’s character for a plethora of reasons yada yada#tell me that’s not even gayer#they have the red string of fate tying them to each other#they were always meant to meet again under the worst circumstances possible#(extremely homosexual of them)#marcus left a lasting impact on sejanus when they were just children and influenced him into becoming the person he is#sejanus wouldn’t have been the same person we got to know if he had never had marcus in his life#and if they hadn’t met again the way they did#they were incredibly not normal about each other when they met again#they both died by their throats while hanging#marcus is the only tribute with a roman name to show even more that they have an unbreakable connection#their souls are spiritually connected and will always find their way back to each other#now tell me all of this isn’t even gayer!!!#you caaaaan’t#i don't caaaaare they’re gaaay idc idc#sejarcus#marcus tbosas#sejanus plinth

I realize that the audience for this post is essentially no one, but I'm really upset about how the gnarly, unicycle-riding spokesghoul for the Barbarois in Vampire Hunter D: Bloodlust appears to be just a more withered version of the Dungeon Master from the early 1980s Dungeons and Dragons cartoon.
#vampire hunter d: bloodlust#i am guessing this is yoshitaka amano's doing#(famous artist who did a lot of D's character design work and was known for incorporating western fantasy and comic book influences)#but i am just having a hard time picturing the dude watching the old D&D cartoon#and being like 'oh yes THAT but creepier and put him on a unicycle'#i am not actually a font of old children's cartoon show knowledge i am just old#i fucking loved that d&d show when i was like 5#ok that's it. i think i am done my D-posting. thank you all for your indulgence

i feel like rick riordan often justifies equality by negating a counterargument. but in bringing up a counterargument, he is actively providing negative ideas to his audience. it may be a means and not the end, but he consistently sets inequality as the status quo, as expected
#i think that#if you wanna have a gay character#you don't have to talk about homophobia#your childrens' action novels do not need to be history lessons#you don't need proper terms to influence your readers#like. if you want to convince children that equality should be the staus quo#i feel like a faster route is to assume that's the status quo#show a world in which that works#and not just one where people want it to#if you want minorities to be treated normally#why go out of your way to constantly treat them abnormally?#in your writing#there's a place for doing more for people when you've accumulated debts of wronging them#i really don't feel like this is it#please can we just be normal people in your books. every time a circumstance is brought up the circumstance becomes the person more and mor#ramble#soup

this man is pissing me off
#the ballad of songbirds and snakes#first it was with his annoying ass thoughts about the superiority of the capital and the dehumanisation of the districts#but now he's having like. NORMAL thoughts. that would be EXPECTED when living in a dystopia#he's seen two classmates die and realised it could've been him and that sejanus saying the capitol not protecting its citizens had merit#and he started acting like a decent human being about lucy gray's situation#forgetting about his own bullshit in the face of her suffering because it's clear that hers is more immediately concerning#the parallels between katniss and coryo drive me INSANE#they've both impoverished young adults who've been in survival mode trying to keep their families from starving to death#forced to actually acknowledge the real world and decide on their own sense of morality#with good influences trying to push them towards the right side#eg. katniss having gale and peeta's voices in her head when she makes a stand for rue#but i KNOW snow doesn't listen to lucy gray and sejanus#i KNOW he doesn't#i've seen the ending! so the possibility of him getting over himself and becoming better is pissing me off because i know he doesn't!!!!#it would be so much easier if he was pure evil. it would be so much less infuriating and so much less horrifying but he's not#he had the potential for goodness and instead he murdered countless people#including thousands of children and any political opponents who got in his way#AND ALSO LUCY GRAY AND SEJANUS#(lucy gray's fate is a mystery but he still chose to kill her and that at least changed HIM)#i hate this. these books are so good i HATE IT#but also some of these lines are so ironic#his tendency towards obsession is likely to kill him one day if he doesn't learn to outsmart it#almost like an obsession with the mockingjay#and calling dr. gaul crazy for her extreme measures to ensure he doesn't lie to her#when he ends up doing the exact same thing to katniss#maybe minus the overt show of violence but like. he doesn't have to. he's in her house threatening her loved ones#it's so fascinating#i want to eat it#but i won't cause i haven't finished reading yet

The key to enjoying Succession's writing fully (and any movie/show) is to empathise with ALL characters, not just the ones you like.
#Succession#Succession HBO#like yo these people aren't real homie. they're characters#eg. Logan isn't a psychopath that hates his children#and simply reducing him to that and refusing to look deeper into his character means you miss out on A LOT of the writing#how Logan's character is written IMPACTS and influences the plot and moreso almost every single character on the show#which allows you to understand every character and how they interact with the plot and the world and each other SOOO much better#than if you reduce characters to They're bad and They're good that's all

Man I miss Anthony Bourdain, and Robin Williams. I was never a superfan or anything, I liked them as much as the next person who regularly consumed the content they made. But the way they carried themselves through life, and the things they put into the world, knowing all of that and also knowing they're no longer here to experience the millions of lives that they influenced, and will continue to influence, makes me so sad.
#knowing that new people will find their work in the future and that positive influence will be go on makes it a bit easier#tell your younger family members to watch mrs doubtfire#watch parts unknown with your children and show them how big the world is

I hate when people say that something is only a problem for the chronically online. Like this is true about some things, but not always... have you all forgotten that social media is deeply embedded into our society? Anyone, including you and me, can be brainwashed by it. Younger generations that are, have been, and continue to be, born into a society heavily driven and influenced by social media and they will not be able to get away from it, regardless of parental influence/controls, because social media rules our world and will continue to do so in the coming years. And that's not even scratching the surface of what will happen once A.I. becomes deeply embedded into our society.
#this is another reason why I'm very pro no children.#it's going to be extremely hard to raise a child and try to keep them away from what everyone else is doing#or using cause they can get that when they are not in your reach by others showing them or influencing them to see it/do it#then you gotta worry about them potentially giving you hell or crying their heads off#when they are the odd one out and falling behind in their sense of belonging socially#cause they aren't experiencing the same things or have access to the same shit the kids around them have etc
