God, there’s nothing funnier than the universal switch that happens when you’re like 12 and you still wanna play games like tag/hide and seek but you also think you’re too old for it, so you invent a NEW game. It’s not hide and seek anymore, it’s MANHUNT and it’s COOLER and you play it at NIGHT because you’re a BIG KID that can be out after dark.

Imagine Lucy Gray and Treech singing APT. by Rose and Bruno Mars in the zoo (though maybe with a different word? Or at least with a different meaning) , explaining it’s actually a drinking game and how it works to the Capitol citizens who ask, and starting a fix it because it sparks a conversation about all the different games the districts play with their limited free time and available resources.

Maybe they bring up that the song is about a drinking game from 7 and Treech taught Lucy Gray the song in the zoo because he was singing it and she overheard? Which starts the whole different districts having different games conversation, and perhaps some of those games come from the Dark Days where the kids tried to cope with the horrors by playing little games to distract themselves. It shows the Capitol that these kids were also victims of the war, and that even the oldest of them were too young to truly have a choice in anything that happened. Also, the games they talk about sound like fun and some of them are even willing to play it with a few nicer Capitol citizens! At some point, a few older tributes like Treech, Lucy Gray, Jessup, and Velvereen (and later Marcus, Reaper, and Coral) end up playing a few of the district drinking games with actual alcohol brought by some older Capitol young adults and they end up getting drunk, leaving them with far less of a filter and they end up spilling a lot of info about their life in the districts, as well as dropping their masks a little and lowkey breaking down over their horrible situation while lamenting the futures they wish they could have. Their hopes and dreams and all the people waiting on them.

It ends up garnering the tributes a lot of sympathy because it’s effectively humanized them in an undeniable way. When they’re all getting drunk together, it’s hard for the Capitol people to ignore just how alike they and the District kids can be if they’re willing to open up.

Naturally this ends in riots until the games are cancelled, a lot of playing games with the district kids, more bonding, a new tourism industry in the districts which improves their living conditions, a lot of “rich best friend” situations, and Gaul’s lab mysteriously being destroyed by totally unknown means
