Character challenge for @asongofgoldenfireandblackblood
Challenge: Write a scene about your character in their childhood.
💛🌙💛
————————————————————
The tears blurred Helaena’s vision as she continued to stare at an ant on the ground. The small creature was a black blur scurrying around, trying to avoid her fingers as she attempted to pick it up.
“I want my mummy,” the princess said shakily. She did not dare to look back at her Septa. While Helaena was afraid of her, she was also deeply angry with her
Just moments ago, her Septa had crushed a different ant on the floor with her shoe, telling Helaena bugs were dirty. This of course sent the young Princess into a hysterical fit, unable to look away from the lonesome ant left now without its friend.
“Do not call her ‘mummy’, you adress her as mother. You are almost six years old, Princess. Act as so!” Her Septa’s voice was filled with frustration, never knowing how to handle Helaena. This only made Helaena cry harder, curling up into a ball on the floor, trapping the ant in her hands.
The Princess heard her Septa’s loud steps as she stormed off, but to where, she didn’t know. To get her mother, she hoped. All she wanted right now was to be held and comforted by her mother.
It seemed almost an eternity that she lied on the ground, sobbing, cradling this small creature. Was no one coming for her? Was she to be alone on the ground with this ant forever? The ant tickled her hand as it crawled around, looking for an escape, and it made Helaena smile. The tears had dried up on her face, and she stopped crying. She continued to lie on the ground, breathing heavily, waiting for something to happen.
Tired from all of the crying, Helaena began to close her eyes. Her hands stayed clasped together, holding the ant there, but the rest of her body went limp. Her eyes shot open when she suddenly heard footsteps getting closer to her. She curled up tighter in fear, not daring to look at whoever was coming. She was being “difficult”, she thought, and she hoped she wasn’t going to be yelled at again. That thought itself almost made her cry once more.
The steps got louder and louder until they were right up close to her ear. They stopped, and she heard a voice say to her, “Helaena, sweet girl, what has happened? Does it require you be throwing a fit on the floor?” She recognized the voice instantly, tensing up. She wanted her mother, not Ser Criston.
Helaena felt his hand on her back, but she didn’t move to look at him. She peeked through a crack in her hands, looking to the bug for support. “Hmph.”
“I don’t think that is an answer your mother or father would accept, young Princess. Good thing I’m not either of them though!” He laughed, but Helaena just frowned.
“Your mother is busy, as well as your father. They are the King and Queen, as you know. They have their duties. You have duties as well, Princess. You can not be on the floor during your lessons with your Septa.” Ser Criston Cole said gently.
Helaena didn’t want her father, or Ser Criston, she wanted her mother. She opened her hands, letting the ant free, watching it scurry away from her. The tears were back, and she could not hold them in.
“Septa is mean!” Helaena sat up, finally, looking at Ser Criston. “I want to go with mother wherever she goes! Why does she leave me here? I never want to go to lessons again!” Ser Criston grimaced as her wails got louder, but Helaena did not notice.
She wasn’t sure how she ended up in his arms, off of the ground, but eventually she realized she was being carried away. “Would a walk in the gardens calm you down, Princess? Do you want to find bugs? What will make you stop crying?” The desperation in his voice got clearer as her crying got louder. Once Helaena heard the word bugs, though, her attention was captured.
“I… sometimes mummy takes me on walks through the gardens. We find flowers. One time, I found a very big spider! I did not hold it.” She looked to the Kingsguard holding her, waiting for him to respond.
He sighed, “okay, then, that is what we will do. Next time, you need to stay in your lessons, kid.”He looked over at her with tired eyes. They walked the rest of the way to the gardens in silence, Helaena’s occasional sniffles being the only sounds. As he carried her away, the drowsiness overtook Helaena. She drifted away to sleep in his arms, the garden being forgotten, and dreams of bugs filling her mind.

Childhood Challenge: "I feel closer to my mother here."
------ challenge within @asongofgoldenfireandblackblood
"Mama," Alicent whispered out as she clutched to her mother's hand. Those big, doe eyes of hers moving around the room in complete curiosity. The Red Keep was new to her as were the people who resided inside but the Sept; at least that was a familiar sight, she thought to herself.
"Hmm?" Alerie looked down at her young daughter as the two ladies of Hightower gracefully moved towards the set of candles. "When are we going home?" Alicent could not stop the question that had plagued her since visiting the capitol. For a moment, there was only silence between the two of them as her mother gently guided her to kneel before the mother.
For a moment, Alicent was distracted enough to realise how much of a pause her Lady mother gave as their soft blue dresses moved with them. Alicent always enjoyed matching with her mother who was more than happy to indulge her. Her mother had promised her one day she could have her pick of the wardrobe and the dresses inside.
"Soon, my dearest." Alicent could only smile in happiness at her mother's response. "I am glad." Alerie only hummed before ducking her head in prayer. As ever, her daughter copied her without complaint. "Your father's business will end soon."
"Your only concern should be reading to the King." Alicent nodded as she leaned in to take an unlit candle. "Yes, mother." She smiled sweetly up at her and Alerie leaned in and pressed a soft kiss to the top of her daughter's head as they both lit a candle.

Childhood Challenge
Corlys watched as his mother’s stone coffin went down the sacred slide and into the waters below. He couldn’t focus on his grandfather’s words as he presided over the burial. His mother had died unexpectedly, an illness taking her from them in just three days.
The gathering by the sacred slide was small. On one side of Corlys stood his grandsire, Lord Daemon Velaryon. And on his other side, pressed against him and shedding quiet tears stood his younger brother Vaemond. Corlys was four-and-ten, Vaemond hadn’t even celebrated his fifth nameday yet. On the other side of the sacred slide stood some of his mother’s relatives. Distant relatives as his mother’s parents had died when she was young, and she hadn’t had brothers or sisters. Near his father stood the King and the Good Queen, as they were all cousins.
The many condolences weren’t the easiest to accept. Corlys accepted them on behalf of himself and Vaemond, who remained inconsolable and hid in Corlys’ cloak.
“Your Graces,” Corlys said and bowed to the King and the Good Queen. “Thank you for attending. And I hear congratulations are in order? A granddaughter born on Dragonstone?”
“You’re welcome, and thank you, Corlys. Yes, Crown Prince Aemon and Lady Jocelyn has welcomed a healthy baby girl,” the Good Queen said.
Corlys nudged his brother gently, hoping he would at least show the proper respect to the King and Queen.
“It’s all right,” the Good Queen said and reached out, patting Vaemond’s shoulder.
Corlys bowed once more as the King and Good Queen moved on to greet others.
“Vaemond…?”
“I want mummy. I don’t want mummy to be gone.”
“I know. I miss her too. But we still must act properly. She would want us to.” Corlys said but let Vaemond hide in his cloak for the remainder of the gathering.

Childhood Challenge
“RHAENYS BARATHEON TARGARYEN!”
There was no way to mistake Lady Jocelyn’s call. The Princess Rhaenys was in trouble. Deep trouble.
Rhaenys had heard her, despite the angry tears and the sound of her quickened heartbeat feeling deafening in her ears as she ran, Rhaenys heard her. She ran fast through the hallways and corridors but remained mindful of those around her. Rhaenys didn’t stop until she reached her grandmother’s bedroom. “Muñazma!”
The door opened quickly and Rhaenys slipped inside, closing it behind her. She blinked, her grandmother always kept her room brightly lit, in stark contrast to the rest of Dragonstone. “Muñazma?”
“By the fireplace, Nyssie.”
Rhaenys breathed a sigh of pure relief and turned the corner, easily spotting her grandmother in her favourite chair beside the warm fire. Rhaenys grinned as her grandmother pulled her down into her lap.
“What did you do this time?”
“I claimed a dragon.” Rhaenys said proudly, as she placed her hands on top of her grandmother’s.
“You did? Which dragon?”
Rhaenys nodded eagerly. At one-and-ten she had waited all her life to prove herself a proper Targaryen dragon rider. She had ridden with her grandparents and her father for as long as she could remember but had always dreamt of her own dragon.
“Ñamar Alyssa’s dragon. Meleys.” She said quietly. “She bowed to me! We bonded like a proper Targaryen and her dragon. I am the rider of the red queen now.”
When her grandmother hugged her close, Rhaenys returned the hug. She had only been able to claim Meleys because her Ñamar Alyssa had died. And Ñamar Alyssa had been Muñazma’s tala. “You’re not angry with me, are you?” Rhaenys asked softly against her Muñazma’s shoulder.
“No, talanna. I am immensely proud of you. And Alyssa would have been incredibly pleased to know that Meleys has chosen you. You are a Targaryen. Despite the colour of your hair.”
Rhaenys blushed slightly as she pulled back. Her hair was dark as her Baratheon heritage’s. When she was younger, she had begged her muñazma to find a maester who could turn her hair golden and silver. “I will take diligent care of her. May I stay with you?”
“Of course, you may, talanna. We will let your mother’s infamous temper settle down a bit, before I let her find you.”
"Kirimvose muñazma."
Muñazma: Father's mother Ñamar: Father's younger sister Tala: Daughter Talanna: Granddaughter Kirimvose: Thank you

Breaking Free from the Past: A Story of Personal Growth and Resilience
“In childhood days, no guide in sight, I looked to you, my beacon light. Your hand I held, my trust was there, Yet you became my deep despair. Parents shielded me from view, Unsure of how to guide me, too. They hid me, locked inside, Not knowing there’s no place to hide. From you, each day, I felt less, Until I fought for my success. From walking close, side by side, To standing strong…

Well we're a whole month from #nationalselfportraitday but I am so proud of this piece. It's a graphic Illustration from when I was a boy on Christmas day. Now I promised my brother @zack_von_gaga that I'd explain the meaning of this shyt so here it is: Now first of all I didn't own all these toys. These are just representations of some of my favorite things going up. So... (Left to right) Daffy was my favorite looney toon character. I related to him because he never wins. Lol I had a Daffy toy but it wasn't a whole ass plush like this, it was a hand puppet. The #megazord I did own but in the original picture it was in the box. I had the Chip Hazzard a few plastic pokemon, I'm sure Charmander was in there somewhere and I did have the silly slammer (That exact one.) I don't think I had the Barneys plush but I was a diehard Barney stan as a kid and I had the bedsheets to prove it. I grew up in the attitude era so I did have that Diamond Dallas Page plush back there. I did have a beagle plush but I didn't have a Squirtle plush, I had a Squirtle Tshirt and the T-Rex. What American boy in the 90s didn't have a dinosaur item or 2? And that's it... OH! The background is very special! One day my parents and my brother and I painted out playroom wall. Now unbeknownst to us, all we were doing is splatter and sponges but we didn't know until my brother put a smiley face on the wall and it gave the room personality. So anyway that's it! I so recommend other artists do this. Maybe #BabyArtist or #ChildhoodChallenge or maybe #KiddieArtist. Get it trending! #Art #Illustration #DigitalArt #BabyPicture #WhenIWasaBoy #Toys #90s #Childhood https://www.instagram.com/p/Boh9FnAgy9p/?utm_source=ig_tumblr_share&igshid=bvdcjh6zwgvw
