hello! please stop to read my words. Mohammad (@yazanfamiily) contacted me and he needs help to save his family. His wife and his chidren, who are only 4 and half 2 years old. Unfortunately the costs of living, food and border crossing fees are very, very expensive, but any small donation counts! If you can, please send some money their way, or at least share his story around. Every little gestures helps. His campaign has been vetted by @lonniemachin here By @northgazaupdates2 here And by @mushroomjar here

I need to confess something... I've been reading "sky: cotl" as "sky: Cult of the Lamb" and I assumed it was some kind of crossover or something like that, but I never understand where were the crossover part of all the arts i've been seeing.
The it hit me... It's "Sky: chidren of the light". Children of the Light and Cult of the Lamb have the same acronym.... Oh. My. Gosh.
#randon#it just hit me#because I saw an Off x Sky fanart#and I was trying really hard to see where cotl was in the fanart

thougets on jaina, jacen and anakin solo why ben got hate?
Plenty of interesting ideas to be found in the Legends' hanleia chidren—twins to mirror Leia&Luke, an attempt to redeem Anakin by giving his name to their youngest son, and most importantly for my tastes, a daughter. But for better or worse, I have not read anything of the EU comics. The Legends are just a fun archive to peruse (thanks to breeze wiki's version of Wookiepedia) and offers some fascinating details I sometimes use while writing (like playing on Jaina's name and that of prince Jonash e Solo for my OC for Han Solo's mom, Jai'nashe).
A reason Ben got hate might be that Legends fans were too attached to Jaina, Jacen and Anakin Solo, too angry at their favourites being removed from canon (anger I can empathise with—such a betrayal can ruin a whole franchise for fans!) and thus could only see Ben as an impostor.
(Side note: there were also fans finding Kylo Ren annoying bc he wasn't Dark Side enough, bc he wasn't as cool as Darth Vader etc. Personally I think they're missing the point of his character entirely, but that's another conversation).
For me, Ben Solo is the most reasonable culmination and evolution of the EU hanleia's children's traits—especially Anakin Solo's. (Not to mention that, let's be honest, hanleia's marriage would be too tumultuous to end up with three kids.) Legends Leia being too busy with her political duties and having parenting software installed in C3P0 (with mixed results) goes hand-in-hand with a very young Ben Solo nearly dying by a malfunctioning nanny droid. Anakin Solo idolising Han and bragging about being his son—so did Ben, who followed his father around everyone as a toddler, carrying his dice and proclaiming that he'd become the best pilot in the world just like him. (Until he grew disillusioned with him). Leia fearing Darth Vader's legacy and keeping it hidden from her children—and so when Ben did find out, he fell to the Dark, like a self-fullfilled prophecy.
In conclusion:

French class time!
For the non native french speakers who want to write French readers. Or about Morticia and her French pet names.
Let's talk about pet names, shall we?
DON'T TRANSLATE LITERALLY, it's strange
"my darling girl" -> "ma fille chérie" (worst: "ma chérie fille" which isn't gramatically correct) -> in French it's used for CHILDREN, your daughter in this case, it's giving pedocriminal vibes.
We, French ppl, don't have as many pet names as English ppl do, but I can give you a list of what is used:
(used by almost everyone, less used now, specific to some couples, not often used but sometimes you can hear it, rarely used)
(neutral doesn't officially exist, I added it anyway)
Mon amour : my love (neutral) (cannot be used without possessive)
Chéri/Chérie/Chéri.e : darling (masculine/feminine/neutral) /!\ can be sarcastic (Mon/ma/man if you want to add a pronoun m/f/n /!\ French possessive is about the subject, not the owner, so it'll be "ma chérie" even if the one saying that isn't a woman).
Très cher/très chère/très cher.e : dearest (m/f/n) /!\ often used for teasing or sarcasm, or old fashion (if you write an historical AU)
mon cher/ma chère/man cher.e : dear, teasing or sarcasm, or old fashion (cannot be used without possessive)
Mon beau/ma belle/man belleau : my beautiful (cannot be used without possessive)
Mon ange : my angel (neutral) (cannot be uses without possessive)
Trésor : treasure (neutral) (can also be used with the possessive: mon)
Mon coeur : my heart (n) (cannot be used without possessive)
Poussin : chick (m/maybe n) (can be used with the possessive: mon)
Doudou : no literal translation, it's the French Creole word for darling, but doudou in French is also the cuddly toy (can be used with the possessive: mon)
Ma colombe : my dove (cannot be used without possessive)
Ma biche : my doe (cannot be used without possessive)
Mon chat/ma chatte/chaton : my cat/my female cat/kitten (m)/(f)/(n) /!\ careful with the feminine one, it means pussy with exactly the same double meaning.
Mon sucre d'orge : my little candy (n), cannot be used without the possessive
Mon chou : my... puffy cream? (M) can be sarcastic (F: always sarcastic or pitying)
Choupi/choupie/choupi.e : alternative way for saying "mon chou", often used for children but not only (can also be used with the possessive: mon/ma/man)
Ma puce : literally my flea... yeah it's weird... it's bcz it's tiny (f, can be sarcastic, more often used for chidren; m, always sarcastic)
Choupette : the feminine for "mon chou" (can also be used with the possessive: ma) (or for children)
Ma mie : my close friend (not literally but it's the idea) (f) /!\ really old fashion (like XVIIs-XVIIIs) but can be used by some ppl for teasing. (don't spell it "mamie", it means grandma)
Ma douce : sweetie, old fashion or teasing (f), never heard/read it for a man, but it'd be "mon doux", and the neutral'd be "man doux.ce"
Bébé : baby, not really used anymore by others than cringe men... (in French it's really giving pedocriminal vibes... Or it's just me, maybe)
Also: you can add "petit/petite/petit.e", (small/little), "joli/jolie/joli.e" (pretty), "beau/belle/belleau" (beautiful), between the possessive and the pet name. /!\ (doesn't work with "amour", "cher", "très cher", "mon beau", "ma mie" and "ma douce")
I think this is a good list... I might add some more if I remember.
Hope this is helping you.

op the chidren YEARN for an update on the kissing windows fic
(no pressure tho sometimes things come up i just wanted to tell you how much i LOVE that fic)
aaa thank u!! grad school & executive dysfunction have been kicking my ass, but so far ch 9 has 3595 words and it's not even halfway done!!
here's an excerpt/spoiler for the curious....
"It had been just over a week since The Eclipse when his mother knocked on the frame of his door while he was reading. “Reminder that we’re going up to the lake on Saturday, you should start getting your things together soon.” ...
“Oh, Jim, darling,” his mother began part way through the conversation, “You know, your father and I were talking and, well what if you invited Gregory to join us? Since Joe is staying with that girl of his, we’ll have a bed open. You two seem to be getting along. and I’m sure he’d appreciate feeling a little more connected to some community.” James was so surprised, he almost aspirated on the bite of food he’d just put into his mouth, coughing so forcefully tears sprang to his eyes. “Sorry,” he wheezed. “Wrong pipe.” He cleared his throat and nodded. “Sure, I’m not sure if his dad will let him but I’ll ask him if he’d like to come.” God, was he blushing? Maybe he just felt warm from his brush with death. “Oh, that man….” his mother shook her head at the mention of Greg’s father. “I’m sorry, you know I don’t like to judge but…well I hope he’s allowed to come, is all I’ll say.” James’ father and brother nodded and mumbled in vague agreement and dinner rolled along, his mom naming things they ought to pack and his father nodding and repeating his words every other sentence to make sure the boys heard her, which was fair because despite sitting 2 feet away from her, James’ thoughts were sprinting circles around him. ‘You two seem to be getting along?’ What did she mean by that? Would it seem too clingy of me to ask him to come on a family vacation after only being together for a week? Are we together?? I mean maybe we’re just friends who touch and hold hands and kiss. And so on and so forth. "
#kw ch 9#kw spoiler#ask#thank u for sending!#i appreciate the reminders that there are people excited to read the words I'm cooking up

📚June 2024 Book Review (Part 1/2)📚
I don't know why June's book feel like I read them so long ago but here we are!
A Hat Full of Sky (Discworld #32) by Terry Pratchett
To continue her apprenticeship as a witch, Tiffany goes to the chalk country to learn from other witches. She will learn how to be her own person and deal with responsibilities, including mysterious mind invading creatures.
I'll admit, I spaced out a bit during this one, most of my memories are fuzzy but I remember the themes: children turning teenagers, not caving in to social pressure, taking responsibility for your mistakes.
It was nice to get back in the Tiffany Aching universe, with the Nac Mac Feegle and more of Granny Weatherwax than in the previous book, The Wee Free Men. It feels more like a chidren book than the rest of the Discworld but it is always a pleasure to read.
I loved Miss Level, the two-bodied witch, with her spirit servant Oswald. I love Pratchett's witches, they are always the most incisive and funny characters. The hiver was also an interesting creature, it saved me from some secknd hand embarrassment to see Tifanny do all those stupid teen things knowing that she wasn't entirely herself.
I forgot most of the plot but what remains is that it was a nice read and a good lesson to learn as a child. Sofar the Tifanny Aching series does not disappoint.
Beren and Lúthien by J R R Tolkien
One of the most beautiful tale of Middle-Earth, the love of Beren and Lúthien, Beren's trial to deserve this love and Lúthien's quest to save him, compiled from Tolkien's many version by his son Christopher.
I have been curious of the story of Beren and Lúthien since I first read The Lord of the Ring at age 13, but despite many attempts I have never managed to get far enough in the Silmarillion to get to this story. I was even more determined to discover it when I learned that Lúthien was inspired by Tolkien's wife and that the names Beren and Lúthien are carved on their graves, this is a sweet love story and added touching context to the book.
Christopher Tolkien did an aging kob compiling and sorting through his father's writing, unfinished, unpublished as it was. Iliked seeing how the story evolved as time passed and as he tried to fit every sorry in one universe and one time line. This is too bad that many of them will never be completed.
The tale itself is really sweet: Beren, a human, meets Lúthien, an elf, as she dances in the forest but when she sees him she flees. When they finally meet and fall in love, Lúthien's brother forbid the relationship unless Beren can bring the proof he deserves her hand: a Silamril, the most precious jewel of the elves which had been stolen by Morgoth, on of the most powerful and evil Lord. This is a pretty traditional tale sofar, except that Beren fails and is made prisoner. Lúthien then escapes hi brother and thanks to her cleverness she rescue Beren and theu both get out of Morgoth's fortress. Unfortunately Beren loses his hand and the Silmaril he was holding and the evil hound that bit it off becomes enraged and roams Lúthien's family domain. Her brother and Beren stops the Hound but Beren dies in the fight. Lúthien then goes to Mandos, who guards the dead, to beg for her lover back. She sings so beautifully that Mandos accept if you consent to becoming mortal. Of course she does and they life a happy life together.
This story is beautiful, Tolkien couldn’t help but recreate it with Aragorn and Arwen in the Lord of the Ring and I can't blame him. Luthien is beautiful, smart, brave, she saved Beren from prison and come get him even in death, no wonder Beren is absolutely smitten with her. This is the best possible way to include your wife in your novel, authors of the world, the bar is up there!
Le Papillon des étoiles by Bernard Werber
Elisabeth is a famous skipper, sailing every ocean since her youth. Yves is a scientist, son of a idealist with a mad dream of space voyage. Their dreams are destroyed when Yves drunkenly hit Elisabeth with his car: she lost her leg, he lost his job. But as life on planet Earth gets more and more unbearable, the sailor and the scientist will come together to offer humanity one last chance: a solar sailing spaceship bound to another planet for a 1000 year journey.
Bernard Werber is one of the most famous French sci-fi writer. I remember reading his trilogy Les Fourmis as a teen and adoring it. However when you churn one novel every year they can't all be good, and Le Papillon des étoiles is just bad.
First of all this is 2006 book, which means it isn't up to date in science and politic, but all of it is so over the top that it wasn't accurate in the early 2000's either: there's a cartoonish level of worldwide horrors which fell from tragic to ridiculous. However, there is a billionaire who is the good est of good guy, set on bettering humanity and who won't use a cent of his money on corruption. Realism/10.
The spaceship itself has unrealistic proportions (30km length for several 100 meters in diameter, that's 18miles and 300ft) 140,000 inhabitants and that thing is supposed to take off from earth and travel using solar energy. Nope.
The characters are unsufferable, the dialogues are badly written, the romance had no depth, the crew aboard the ship thinks itself superior to the people they left on earth and can't realise (even when it's obvious to the reader, which makes them seem stupid as hell) that they are just as human and just as flawed. During the 1,000 years of travel their little Paradise village in the spaceship becomes more corrupt and crime ridden up until the point when there is only a handful of survivor and just one escape pod for 2 people. I get what the message was but some subtlety would have been appreciated.
All that for what, you might ask? The two remaining human land on another planet and they have a child with a lisp who mispronounced every character's name like character from Genesis (Yves is Eve, Satin is Satan...). So all that for a bad looping that brings humanity back to its (mythical) beginning. I was beyond disappointed.
So yeah, that was a Werber that sucked. And that makes me weary about reading again the few good ones I had liked in middle school.
Camp Damascus by Chuck Tingle
Rose is a very religious young girl at the Kingdom of Pines in Montana. It is well known across the state for its reorientation camp "Camp Damascus", that claims a 100% success rate. Rise herself never went there buy all those who didn't won't talk about it. When one summer, after she started developing unconscious feeling for a girl, Rose starts coughing mayflies she starts to question her memory and her community's behaviour. She is deadset on finding answer, even if it means going to Camp Damascus.
I always heard of Chuck Tingle for his Pounded in the Butt by... wierd erotica (I have read one during the pandemic, there was a surprising amount of worldbuilding) so I was curious to read a more... I want to say mainstream, it definitely isn't that, but you get the idea: there's no sexy billionaire velociraptor in this one.
This horror novel deals with very real and frightening issues: homophobia, cults, religious trauma, conversion therapy... it isn't the center of the horror but it sets a realistic and uncomfortable atmosphere. Rose struggles with her faith and her attraction makes a very compelling heroine, that and her unrelenting quest for answers.
There is a deeper, darker and more supernatural aspect to the book too! Creatures with Camp Damascus nametags appear early on in the novel and add to the threat that the camp already is. All the first part before camp create a feeling of unease for Rose and the reader and it all unravels when Rose gets to the camp. I won't say too much about it because the suspense is really gripping but the more you dig, the worst it all becomes up until the end.
A really good horror novel, it makes me want to dive right into Bury Your Gay, Chuck Tingle's second traditionally published novel.

Oh, where are you from then? And fanfiction? Can we read this somewhere? :3
I'm French!
As for my fanfictions, you can find them on my AO3 account, just here :
I have currently 6 fanfictions there:
The Doppelganger [Complete] : A short story between Horrortale and Underfell where both Sanses got swapped into each other universes. Their brothers are investigating to understand what happened. Chaos follows.
What is best for humankind [On going] : It explores Sans and Papyrus past in an more-or-less an AU taking place at the end of the war between humans and monsters. The skeletons, as chidren, have to flee their home and survive despite all humans killing monsters on sight. Sans will soon discover something is wrong with how his fater is acting.
Horrortale : Rotten Apple [On going] : It's the story of what happened between Undertale and Horrortale. We're following Sans, Papyrus, Toriel, Undyne and Frisk after Frisk left to search for help. As the Underground starts to fall into a civil war, as Toriel and Undyne fought for the throne, Frisk has to face their past with the help of Chara's and Asgore's ghosts. It's a reimagination of Horrortale, it doesn't follows 100% the storyline of SourAppleStudios so the story gets more coherent with the characters' personality.
Remember the good days [On going] : It's a post-pacifist Sans x Reader story! After a terrorist attack, Sans got shot behind the head as he was trying to protect Frisk. He survived, but lost most of his independance as he suffers since from memory loss that is getting worse and worse. After many years in a monster foster family, you are taking your independance in the neighbourhood, with your little sister and your cat. Papyrus, your new weird neighbour, then proposes you a job. He wants you to take care of Sans while he is studying at the university. Seems easy enough... right?
No Weakness [On going] : It's an Underfell more-or-less post-pacifist story. Sans refused to let Frisk sacrificed themselves in the Judgement Hall. Instead, he made a pact with Papyrus, Undyne, Alphys and Toriel : the child will stay with Toriel, and they are the protectors of their secret. Not an easy task for Papyrus who is more and more scared of what will happen the day Asgore will discover the child. In the meantime, Undyne starts to act weird, and one day, quits the guard without a warning and Papyrus' life, leaving him the leadership of the Royal Guard. Papyrus should be flattered, but still, he is worried for her, and despite his attempts, Undyne refuses to talk to him. Until he learns on TV Undyne is about to marry Asgore. There's just one little problem: Undyne HATES Asgore with all she has. Papyrus, despite the warnings and threats, starts to investigate to save his only friend.
Out of the closet [Complete] : A short story inspired by Biscia trans Sans headcanon. Papyrus goes home from school and can't find Sans. Until he notices the door of her room is closed, which means Sans is sad again. He will try to cheer her up!
For my other French stories, they're all on Wattpad! I'm very productive :p I have original projects and fanfictions there.

Etymology nonnie here!
I'm not gonna comment on the poll that is going on (anyone who has read anything I've written knows who I voted for and support). I don't want to make campaign, and unlike the future IF poll, there are no major consequences. So no corruption this time from my part. I've been tempted to comment on the poll, since it's interesting to witness how the results fluctuate as people vote. Yet, alas, I don't want to spam more than I already do speaking about something that has varied so much as the day went.
That said, I've been interested by two things discussed today: The RO's as parents, and Lorcan's long relationship with Orla. In this ask I'll focus on the former, and I'll write another ask for the latter. I don't think I can tie them together well enough to justify including it here. So, take this as an omen for what it is to come.
1) The RO's as parents:
So far, none of them really fit the idea of a character who is ready to have children. All three, plus MC, need extensive therapy before they are in a good place to consider parenthood (which is something you already pointed out). Having that established, they are not the same. In the sense that I could see Nia and Imre being able to adapt to being parents with more ease than Lorcan. Perhaps not in every aspect of parenting, but in plenty.
Nia is logical enough that she probably would find a way to make it work alongside her career. Her family, if I remember correctly, has enough resources than a child shouldn't be that much of a hydrance economically. And, since in all these scenarios we are assuming the RO's is with the MC, then we can expect MC to stay at home while Nia studies/works (depending on which point of the time line we are talking about). That said, I imagine Nia would expect MC to work too (especially if MC is female, for some reason I imagine Nia would prefer another fellow woman to be a part of the workforce, and feel somewhat vindicated if a male MC took a more traditional femenine role by staying home, although I may be entirely wrong on this; yet, I still would expect her to want MC to work, regardless of gender). I imagine MC would probably have a part time job, or one that had flexible hours.
As a mother, I think you established already she would be strict. I believe she would be rather cold, but still affectionate. Like, she will be there for her kids when they need her. But otherwise wouldn't be over them all the time to give them affection. I also believe she would be the kind of mother her children would be scared of. Especially because she wouldn't yell, she wouldn't even raise her voice a bit. She would just give one cold disappointed look, and the kid would live with regret for whatever they've done to deserve such look.
Imre probably could throw money at some of the issues. But I also expect him to try to one up, if subconsciously, his own father by how he raises any child. Money also has the advantage that he can stay at home more than he would be able otherwise. Although I do think he would try to work as a paleontologist, and maybe bring his kid alongside him once the kid is old enough (not much of an option for Nia, if she is to become a doctor). Here again it would make sense for MC to stay at home more than Imre. Yet, unlike with Nia, I don't think Imre would expect MC to work (there's not really a need, after all) unless MC wanted to pursue a particular career.
As a parent, I imagine Imre is affectionate yet a bit distant. In the way some fathers can be. I'm not sure if I can explain it. Interestingly, I think he would be the kid of parent the chidren would love more when they are younger, and grew a bit more desillusioned when they get to adulthood. Simply because Imre, so far, seems more ideal as a romantic partner than as a parent. The kind of person who doesn't really want to settle down (didn't he want to marry MC like in his 40's? I think that would be devastating to many MC's if they were dating Imre since their early 20s). I don't think he would be neglectful, at all. I just see him as the cool dad, who becomes less cool when you realize what his coolness demands from him and his time.
Lorcan is a different story. I think Lorcan would love any kid of his no matter what, but he is not in a situation to have them. He is too poor for it to be responsible. And given that MC wouldn't bring any money, both would need to work. So, forcefully, they are less involved with their children. And I don't know if they can afford a nanny or equivalent as Nia and Imre would, so the situation becomes significantly more complicated.
But there is also the aspect of Lorcan, at least as of now, seems less mature than the other two RO's. Which may be because of his hotheadedness, but also due to him expressing his hatred and emotions with significant lesser control than the other two. Some of his behavior can be a bit childish too. So, at least for me, he would have the hardest time adapting to be a parent. Both due to money and maturity.
Which I think can explain why you see him as someone whose children won't respect him. I see Lorcan as someone who would love them too much, and wouldn't know how to discipline children. Depending on MC for that (which, I don't know how that'll work). So money could be even more of an issue if his kids don't realize early how poor they are. But that's a bit sad to think about.
Overall, I think the other problem when trying to imagine the RO's as parents, is how you fit MC in that image. Simply because MC is too wide of a variable, based on how different you can play them. And the thing about parenthood, is that is something that ideally should be a partnership. And if you can't be sure what half of said partnership may be like... Well, I don't think is easy to imagine how it'll go. For a reader, like me, it's easier since we just put our own MC without considering the other possible ways MC could be and develop. But for you, it probably is hard to imagine MC as anything but a very flexible and varied entity.
I say this adding over the point of the RO's and MC being very young as of now. It's hard to imagine them as parents when they have do much to do before that. Even if in the 90's people married and had children earlier than today (on average, although don't quote me on that, as I have not done any proper research on the matter).
I feel you’re pretty spot on actually. Nia would want mc to work in some capacity, she would like for them to have equal time for work and child raising. Imre would be a bit more distant as the children grow up, I likened him to a father who has his kids when he’s old, he’s a good dad but he isn’t as close as he can be when they’re teenagers and adults. And yeah I did say Imre would prefer to be married in his 40s. And Lorcan, yeah he has too many issues with parenthood, his own self doubts and that he’s not sure if he even wants children.
In the 90s there was a rise in how old people had children, still a bit young but from what I remember it’s 22-24 ish

3.11 “Reciprocity” — with some thoughts about Walter and Peter’s past sins haunting them, parents and chidren, Peter/Olivia, Astrid being amazing, Broyles being a great boss, and how the alt world doubles work emotionally.
Peter making Walter a pb&j sandwich and telling him “you can’t protect me from everything” is a really poignant moment about parents and adult children. The child will always be the parent’s child, but as children grow and parents grow older, the dynamics shift.
After all the experiments Walter did using people, his anger and indignation about Massive Dynamic wanting to run tests on Peter has some layers. It’s not just hypocrisy arising from his love of his son. He regrets the past. We’ve seen his regrets about his past practices. The prospect of Peter being the “lab rat” at Massive Dynamic is one more way Walter’s past sins as a scientist are coming to haunt him.
If you need an encryption expert to go through 300 pages of encrypted data, in a personally sensitive and discreet way—you go to Astrid Farnsworth. Broyles has immense respect for the agents he’s responsible for and their unique strengths. He knows what they’re best at, and their weaknesses, and how to deploy the team to the best advantage.
Except Walter. With Walter, Broyles endures with immense long-suffering stoicism and patience, he’s the wild card they have to use. Broyles respects Walter’s intellect, but he relies on Olivia and Astrid, and I suspect Broyles believes Peter would be a great asset if he decided to become more than a consultant—that Peter has a lot of potential as an agent, but the way Peter’s brain works anyway, he’s able to be great at any number of jobs he has no actual qualifications for yet carries it off competently.
Peter’s past sins are coming for him too. After being a con artist, and thinking his marks were stupid or gullible—he gets conned by Fauxlivia and he’s convinced Fauxlivia’s diaries will see him the way Peter saw his former marks, and he’s ashamed, of himself and his past, and of being seen that way himself. He tells Olivia “I don’t want you to see me that way.”
Olivia, who needed time for her own pain and hurt, realizing that Fauxlivia didn’t just rip out her heart, steal everything that’s hers, she preyed on Peter too. Tricked him, used him, played on his love for Olivia.
But when Olivia reads the journals, she finds out that’s not how Fauxlivia saw Peter. That Fauxlivia saw his goodness, that she kept forgetting why she was there, getting swept up in Peter. We saw Fauxlivia struggling. Newton called her out on her hesitancy about doing what has to be done. She didn’t see Peter as the gullible mark. She was genuinely falling for him.
That must hurt Olivia on a different level than Peter not realizing it wasn’t really her. Olivia however is also discovering how much like her Fauxlivia is. Maybe that’s helping it to click for her how much Fauxlivia was using Peter’s love for her, that it was what Astrid said, it was actually about Peter wanting to be with her. And so he welcomed the small changes and he thought it was finally him and Olivia being able to get closer. If he had been less in love with Olivia, Fauxlivia might not have been able to pull it off.
There’s been parallels. A shapeshifter replacing a husband and the wife, after decades of marriage, where they have grandkids, doesn’t catch on, because the shapeshifter so thoroughly imitated that person and mimicked their feelings and had feelings. Fauxlivia became Olivia, willfully, to such a degree it fooled Peter, while Olivia trapped on the other side, got brainwashed into believing she was Fauxlivia against her will.
They share DNA. They are identical physically. They aren’t the same in personality all the way through but Olivia says they process things in similar ways, use similar phrases. Olivia says that of course Fauxlivia fell for Peter, because she would have seen Peter the way she sees Peter, noticed what she notices. The alt world doubles are the same person, in some ways, placed into difference circumstances. Not twins. The same person, on different worlds.
It’s how Walter and Walternate are too. There are differences. But before Belly removed part of Walter’s brain, he was more like Walternate. And they have their shared love of Peter. Their selfishness mixed with altruism. Their intellect. And a bunch of other things in common. Walter is Walternate, Walternate is Walter, in different circumstances.

It's an even better reference, Jabberwocky, since it broke not just what people thought English was, but what stories could be read to children. Before that, it was mostly religious propaganda. The world was newly introduced to what story tales and fantasy and imagination can do for chidren.
#literature#linguistics#listen to me rant on janberwocky because lewis carroll was a freaking rockstar
