I just found my new favorite katsu curry udon place! They really hooked it up with the chicken katsu! Let me tell you when I say a hook up, there was an entire layer of katsu underneath what is shown on top! I asked it for it to be extra spicy and asked how spicy it is, and my server was kind enough to explain to me that it does have a kick but isn’t crazy spicy. I’m glad I got it because it was such good slow building spice that can only be experienced with an addicting bowl of curry.

I had to get rice and an egg to mop up the rest of the curry! I know where I’m going when my curry udon craving hits!

𝗖𝗼𝗺𝗽𝗹𝗶𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗮𝗿𝘆 | A new @chicknsours opened in Spitalfields recently and I went down this week to check it out. This place has been one of my favourite restaurants for around 3 years now, and this week confirmed that it’s still up there. Carl and David never fail to impress me, and I love everything that they create. This includes the new Chicken Katsu Curry, I LOVE it. Plus for Christmas they’ve got a lil special of deep fried cheese with a blueberry hoisin sauce. The K-Pop still stands strong, albeit smaller than it started, and the Kung Pao wings give you that sweetness with a kick. But for me the chicken tenders stood out on top of everything this time. That seaweed crack is legit crack. But every time I go to Chick n Sours I find myself saying the same thing; the Szechuan Aubergine is one of the best items on the menu, I can’t get enough of it. Congrats to Carl and David on the new place. Chicken katsu curry recipe serves 3 people or 2 very hungry people 3 chicken breasts, sliced in half horizontally to make thinner filets 1/2 c. flour salt and pepper to taste 2 eggs, beaten in a bowl 1 c. panko bread crumbs Oil for shallow frying 1 large onion, peeled and cut into cubes 3 carrots, peeled and cut into chunky slices 2 potatoes, peeled and cut into cubes 20 green beans (approximately), cut in half 2 Tbsp oil 1/2 package of S&B Golden curry cubes (7.8 oz or 220g package) 3 c water Put the oil for frying in a saucepan (oil should be about 1 inch deep in the pan). Heat over medium to medium-low heat. Mix the flour, salt and pepper on a large plate. Beat the two eggs in a bowl, large enough to dip the chicken pieces. Put the panko in a separate bowl, large enough to dip the chicken pieces. Dip the chicken pieces in flour mixture, then egg, then panko in turn. Put each piece into the heated pan of oil. You may want to test the oil is hot enough by dropping a few panko crumbs into the oil. They should sizzle and slowly brown, but not too quickly or the oil may be too hot. Cook the chicken on one side about 3-4 minutes until golden brown, then flip over and cook another 2-3 minutes or until golden brown. Drain on a plate lined with paper towels and set aside. In the meantime, in a separate saucepan, heat 2 Tbsp oil over medium-low heat. Add onion and stir until lightly browned about 2 minutes. Add in the chopped potatoes. Stir and cook for 2 minutes. THen add in carrots, green beans, and water Turn heat up and wait for water to boil. Lower heat to medium and cook for 8-10 minutes. Lower heat again to medium low and add curry mix cubes. Mix well until the currry dissolves and makes a thickened sauce. Remove from heat. Serve with the chicken katsu and rice.
