Bundoo Khan, 43405 Christy St., Fremont, CA 94538
Cute tagline: Straight out of Karachi. It also fits because Bundoo Khan was founded over 70 years ago on the streets of Karachi. They specialize in Pakistani BBQ. Choose from kabobs, boti, rolls, burgers, drinks, and desserts. Breakfast is served on weekends. There’s also a sign for Scoops N’ Scoops Creamery (ice cream).
There isn’t much service or I should call it self-service. You order from a kiosk (or if you prefer, someone will take your order) and get a buzzer. When it goes off, you’ll pick up your food. You should also get your own water, utensils, napkins, sauces (raita and tamarind sauce), drinks, etc. The good news is that if you order chai, the refills are free. Bus your own table when you are done.
Signature chicken tikka roll ($13) with naan (or paratha). You can specify the spice level. It’s dark meat that’s cooked on their BBQ grill (in plain sight), cut into strips and stuffed into a naan with crunchy red onion. I asked for spicy and it was quite spicy, but also fairly salty. The raita was very watery and didn’t help cool down the spicy heat. The naan was chewy and warm. Some more veggies and fresh herbs might have helped tone down the saltiness.
Desi chai: Delicious, rich, spiced, and not sweetened (you can sweeten to taste)
The restaurant is quite large and looks modern/attractive. It’s very bright inside and plays Indian music. Most of the patrons were Indian/Pakistani.
4 out of 5 stars.
