it's just so special to me when like a character is a massive loser and yet they get someone who falls head over heels for them. like yeah boy pull some bitches with your weak-ass game and cringefail demeanor

sooo i redesigned a lot of my childhood warrior cats ocs... some of them I totally forgot about until I raided an old page of mine LOL. I could have kept their original bright colors and designs, but I liked the challenge of finding colorways and cat shapes/breeds that are more plausible than what I depicted in my art from age 9 to 12 :]

the childhood art that I referenced for the redesign is below the cut with associated rambling, mostly in order of the above characters, if you want to know what I drew as a kid haha

This is Cherryfur/Cherryfrost, who I made a Siberian cat. In the redesign, I tried to hint at her old pink very lightly in her stripes. I also made her and heartmelt/roseheart siblings, since they were both once pink :)

This is Bloodmask, who I renamed Russetmask. I figured russet was as close to blood-colored as a real cat would get, lol. I'm not sure how plausible a mask pattern is on a russet cat, but what's warrior cats without a little implausibility? His original character was very edgy, so I tried to translate that outlandishness into a more realistic characteristic - I made him a feral cat turned deputy, which seems like a social no-no.

This is Shreddedstar. She was the leader of "BeastClan", a clan I made which was the home for a Warriors RPG group I hosted. Years later I deleted that group in a fit of embarrassment and now I HATE that I did that, because I had some nice memories from there! In the redesign, I didn't keep the Clan's trait of wearing animal pelts and teeth, because honestly I did not feel like looking for reference and making it make sense. I renamed her Foxstar, after her orange pelt, and I also gave her markings because apparently pure orange cats don't exist. She's an American Bobtail.

This is the oldest digital art I think I have. And Nightscar is the oldest warrior cat OC I have! He was renamed Nightbird because I don't think Foxstar would be so mean as to make his warrior name a comment on his scars. I made him an Oriental Shorthair.

I forgot about these two until I found this art. Idk if they were for anything or if I ever drew them again, but I pulled them out of retirement. I renamed Whispersong (left) to Whisperthroat and Jadestorm (right) to Lichenbark, to reference her former green design. I also changed their whole backstory... idk why but at ~10 years old all my cats had dead parents and were traumatized about it in some way. I think that was my childhood brain's concept of a character idea.

This girl is Heartmelt, who was another BeastClan character! I renamed her Roseheart and made her sisters with Cherryfrost - she's a Siberian like her sister. in the name of realism I sadly got rid of her pinkness and hearts. But, I left her a heart on her chest :]

Last but not least is the unfortunately named "Painfulshadow". I renamed him Slateshade and tried to keep a little indication of his wings in his patterning :) he's a domestic shorthair classic tabby.

Debating on making this a character in the Five Clans AU- but unsure what to do with her.

She’s mentioned as a tabby with distinct black markings, and is supposedly just… a character. No name, no nothing. Not one of the other Queens seen, just her own thing.

One possibility is to make her the parent to Swift, Cinder and Bracken (and Lynx ig), and move Rosetail to being Spotted and Red’s mom instead.

Possibilities for names is to just yoink some missing kit names- Cricketkit, Cherrypaw or Chesnutkit. But if I imagine she’s a red tabby tortoiseshell then probably Cherrypaw will be moved to her.

It's the last Wednesday of the month, which means it's time for another name poll! Ignore that there wasn't one for April, that is not relevant in any way. May's poll will be the start of a series of warrior names for a group of Thunderclan kits that we'll come to know more in time - Frostfur and Goldenflower's litter! In canon, three of them already have names - Brackenfur, Brightheart, and Thornclaw, while two of them died before they could get their names (Cherrypaw and Chestnutpaw/Cedarpaw). We'll be starting with one of the cats that never got her warrior name - Cherrypaw!

We haven't seen much of Cherrykit yet - other than when she and her siblings were kidnapped by Brokentail's Shadowclan. She'll first be apprenticed in Chapter 26, so of course it might be difficult to decide her warrior name when we've seen so little of her. To help, I've included an excerpt of her apprentice ceremony!

Next was a dappled ginger molly with a similar dark pelt as her brother Cedarpaw, but with small white patches. She trotted up confidently, her green eyes glittering with excitement as she looked up at the leader. “Cherrykit, you have reached the age of six moons, and the time has come for you to be apprenticed.” Bluestar mewed, her eyes shining with pride as she looked down on the young kit. “From this day forward, until you receive your warrior name, you will be known as Cherrypaw. Your mentor will be Mousefur.”

Mousefur was a good choice, Fireheart thought to himself as he nodded with approval. “Mousefur, you received excellent training from Dappleshine when you were an apprentice. You have since blossomed to become one of the Clan’s best hunters, and I know you can always be trusted to speak the truth. You will be Cherrypaw’s mentor, and I expect you to pass on all you know to her.”

In summary - Cherrypaw is a very eager apprentice who longs to prove herself to the Clan, paired with her mentor Mousefur who also feels she hasn't yet proven her worth as a warrior like her brother Quickflash did. She's a fiery young tortoiseshell, but she still has a big heart - especially when it comes to her siblings Brackenpaw, Brightpaw, Cedarpaw, and Thornpaw. She seems to combine the passion and drive of Frostfur and the kindness and understanding of Goldenflower - the best of both of them, as they would say!

Cherryflower is a legacy name from her mother, Goldenflower, while Cherryfur is a legacy name from her mother Frostfur and mentor Mousefur. Cherryskip, Cherryspring, and Cherrywing each refer to her enthusiasm for Clan life, as well as her swiftness and extroverted nature. As always, feel free to suggest a name I didn't pick in the comments or tags!

Firestar and Sandstorm are both bisexual in Burning Thistles! and in canon probably lol

their relationship in BT is slightly different - not filled with as much initial hatred since Firekit was clanborn, but that doesn’t mean there’s not any tension between them in the early days, considering Auntie Frostfur liked to fill Sandpaw’s ears with whispers of Firepaw’s parentage

they’re very much in that “oh my StarClan you guys are basically already mates just ask each other out!!” phase in BT currently lol

also i think it’s funny that Sandstorm is friends with Creekflower (mostly bcus she’s friends with Fireheart and Cherryfur) even tho she thinks Creek is a traitor/stupid for getting with a kittypet (also think it’s funny if Sand had a brief crush on Creek too lmao)

gosh ngl Feathercloud from @firealder2005 and I’s fic Burning Thistles is by far my favorite character to not only write but to just... his personality, his story, his hardships, his family, his lovelife... I love it all sm i swear, and he’s not even a main character even vsjfsdkfjs but my love for him makes him one <3

Featherkit is one of Runningwind and Dappletail’s canonical kits- the deaf tom-kit who ‘wandered away’, but in BT he is Runningwind and Redtail’s son with Dappletail being his surrogate mother, born alongside his sister Crickekit :)

the amount of angst and fluff i can shove into this boy is incomprehensible

betcha cant identify every character here lol (i feel any avid BT fan could name 31/32 of them, bcus that 32nd one is a curveball whose only been important in like... 1/101 chapters. and prob only mentioned in.... 5/101?)

Warrior Cats: Blood Moon-Chapter One

The sunhigh light filtered through the dense canopy of oak trees. The OakClan camp was buzzing with anticipation. Cats gathered around Highrock, where Moonstar stood tall, her silver fur gleaming in the sunlight. Today was a special day, one where two kits would take their first steps towards becoming warriors.

Juniperkit and her sister, Featherkit, sat side by side at the base of Highrock. Juniperkit’s heart pounded in her chest. She had spent all night up with her sister, talking excitedly about this very moment. 

Featherkit’s tail was twitching in excitement. As the clan gathered around the highrock, even the two elders stiffly walking to the entrance of their den, reality hit Juniperkit.

She was really going to be an apprentice!

“Juniperkit, Featherkit, step forward,” Moonstar called, her voice clear and strong with authority. Silence fell over the clan and Juniperkit was acutely aware of the gazes on her and her sister.

Juniperkit exchanged a quick, nervous glance with Featherkit. Together, they padded forward and looked up at the towering rock and the leader that stood upon it. Moonstar’s purple eyes softened as she looked down at them.

“Juniperkit, you have reached the age of six moons and are ready to begin your training as an apprentice,” Moonstar said, “Sagepelt, you are a wise and experienced warrior. Though you have faced challenges, your knowledge of the forest and warrior code is unmatched. You will be Juniperpaw’s mentor.”

Juniperkit- no, Juniperpaw now- stared at the senior warrior as he stepped forward, purring. The gray tabby reached forward to touch noses with his new apprentice, his sage green eyes filled with happiness. His ears twitched, one turned permanently as if listening to a sound that only he could hear.

Juniperpaw’s heart sank. She had hoped for a mentor like Cherryfur or Oakleaf. Sagepelt, though respected, was half-deaf and had never had an apprentice before. She couldn’t help but feel disappointed. How could she learn to be a warrior if her mentor couldn’t hear properly?

Sagepelt must have noticed the disappointment in her eyes, because he whispered, “We’ll make a great team.”

Juniperpaw forced herself to nod, but she couldn’t bring herself to respond. Hesitation gnawed at her belly, but she reassured herself that, even if her mentor wasn’t the best, she would still do her best for the clan.

Moonstar’s gaze turned to Featherkit, who stood beside her sister, blue eyes wide with excitement, “Featherkit, you too are ready to begin your apprenticeship. Lilyheart, you are a patient and nurturing warrior. You will be Featherpaw’s mentor.”

Lilyheart stepped forward and touched noses with Featherpaw. Featherpaw purred softly, clearly pleased with Moonstar’s choice in mentor for her. Juniperpaw felt a pang of jealousy.

The clan erupted into cheers, “Juniperpaw! Featherpaw!” Their new names rang out and echoed across the camp, but Juniperpaw’s heart still felt heavy.

The clan dispersed, but Juniperpaw stayed in her place. Featherpaw’s fluffy tail brushed against Juniperpaw’s flank, “Come on! Our mentors are going to show us the territory!”

Juniperpaw shook her head, “You go ahead.”

Featherpaw hesitated, eyes flashing with worry, but Lilyheart called her name. “It’ll all work out in the end,” she whispered before bounding after her mentor. Juniperpaw watched her head towards the entrance, feeling miserable.

Sagepelt approached her, his voice surprisingly understanding and gentle, “I know I’m not the mentor you hoped for, but I promise I will teach you everything I know. Being a warrior is more than just strength and speed, it’s about wisdom and heart, and I can see you have both.”

Juniperpaw blinked, surprised. Then, a purr rumbled in her throat, her disappointment beginning to fade, “Thank you, Sagepelt.”

Sagepelt nodded, “Let’s tour the territory, then. You must be excited to leave camp for the first time.”

Juniperpaw bounded ahead of him, leading the way to the camp entrance, heart feeling much lighter. Lilyheart and Featherpaw sat just outside the camp and Featherpawr’s eyes brightened at the sight of her sister, “I knew you’d come!”

Juniperpaw purred and the four cats set out to see OakClan’s territory together. 

My path may be different than Featherpaw’s, Juniperpaw thought, but it’s my own path and I’ll walk it with pride!

Sagepelt and Lilyheart eventually took the lead and Juniperpaw walked alongside her sister, their paws sinking into the soft forest floor. Their mentors held their tails high with confidence at the familiarity, but for Juniperpaw, everything was new and exciting. The new scents and sounds of the forest filled her senses.

Sagepelt slowed his pace as they approached a clearing overshadowed by a massive oak tree. 

“This is the Great Oak,” Sagepelt said, “It’s one of the oldest and biggest trees in the forest. Many of our ancestors have walked beneath its branches.”

Juniperpaw stared up at the towering tree, her eyes wide with awe. The giant oak made her feel small, but it also filled her with pride. Featherpaw brushed her tail against Juniperpaw’s side, meow breathless with awe, “It’s even bigger than Mistypaw said! Can’t you just feel the history behind it?”

Juniperpaw nodded, unable to tear her gaze from the Great Oak, almost expecting to see her ancestors walking by the giant tree.

Lilyheart sat next to the tree and spoke to the two apprentices, “The Great Oak is a symbol of OakClan’s resilience and strength. No matter what challenges we face, we must stand tall like this tree.”

The two mentors guided them through the forest as it became denser. The air cooled and the ground became covered in a thick layer of leaves that crunched underpaw. They came across a thick wall of brambles with a large space between them leading to a hollow under the shade of many oak trees.

“This is the training hollow,” Sagepelt said, “It is where we train apprentices like you and practice our battle moves.”

Featherpaw’s eyes sparkled with enthusiasm, “I can’t wait to fight here! Do you think we’ll get to practice soon?”

Lilyheart purred in amusement, “Patience, Featherpaw. You’ll have plenty of opportunities to train here. For now, let’s explore the territory.”

They continued on, the path winding through the forest until the sound of rushing water reached Juniperpaw’s ears. The noise grew louder as they approached a wide, clear stream that sparkled in the sunlight. Smooth, flat stones were just barely visible over the water’s surface, creating a natural bridge across the stream.

“These are the River Stones,” Sagepelt explained, leaping onto the closest stone, “It is where we fish. The stones make it easy to catch fish without getting too wet.”

Juniperpaw watched as a small fish darted past one of the rocks. Sagepelt scooped the fish right out of the water with one paw and flung it in an arch onto the grass, where it flopped helplessly. Lilyheart nipped its spine, putting it out of its struggle.

Featherpaw crouched at the riverside, tail swishing back and forth over the grass, “Can we fish here now?”

Lilyheart shook her head, “Fishing requires patience and skill, but with time I’m sure we can teach you to be excellent fishers.”

Sagepelt led the way, hopping across each rock to cross the stream. Lilyheart followed, her paws not making a sound. Featherpaw eagerly chased after, clumsily scraping her claws on each stone. 

Juniperpaw looked down at the stream, nervous about falling in. Featherpaw sent her an encouraging look and, not wanting to be left behind, she leapt onto the first stone. At first, she rocked back and forth, trying to keep her balance, but she found it wasn’t too difficult after the third leap.

The group crossed the stream without incident, and the trees began to thin. The flat ground shifted to a steep incline and, before she knew it, they were on the top of a huge hill overlooking a strange sight.

“That is Twolegplace,” Sagepelt explained, “Those strange things are dens, where twolegs live, sometimes with dogs and cats. The black paths are called thunderpaths and big, shiny monsters run up and down them.”

Juniperpaw shivered. She had heard enough stories to be afraid to cross a thunderpath. Even so, she was curious to see what a twoleg, dog, and monster looked like.

The sun was getting lower in the sky and Juniperpaw was glad they were heading back. Her paws were beginning to ache from all the walking they had done. However, she felt deeply satisfied. Both Sagepelt and Lilyheart had shown them so much, and she felt more excited than ever to begin her training.

The four cats padded back into camp. Featherpaw was practically glowing, her white tail swishing back and forth in excitement, “Wasn’t that amazing, Juniperpaw? I can’t wait to start training!”

Juniperpaw purred, “It was awesome! I’m ready to learn everything I can from Sagepelt!”

Sagepelt and Lilyheart exchanged proud glances, “You’ve both done well today,” Sagepelt said, “There’s much to learn, but I believe you both will go far.”

Juniperpaw headed back for the nursery but was nearly knocked over by a purring Featherpaw crashing into her flank, “Wrong den, silly! We sleep in the apprentices’ den now!”

Her heart rose even higher in her chest. She had completely forgotten they would be staying in a new den!

Featherpaw led the way through the burrow that led to the apprentices’ den. Birchpaw was already inside and he let out a purr when he saw the two new apprentices.

“How was your tour of the territory?” he asked, “Isn’t it so much bigger than you expected?

“It was amazing!” Featherpaw said, “I suppose we should both get some moss to make our nests now, though.”

Birchpaw shook his head, “I already made you both nests. I thought you might be too tired to walk after a long tour.”

“Thank you!” the sisters chorused.

“I don’t think I can walk another step,” Juniperpaw admitted, her legs feeling wobbly.

Birchpaw pointed out the two sisters’ nests, which were right next to each other. Both she-cats curled up in their nests and, heart feeling light, Juniperpaw fell asleep instantly.

Her papa taught her to always value the cats around you more than societal norms, and she often crosses into other territories to assist other medicine cats during dire times. This makes her less-than-popular with the older crowd, but apprentices flock to her for advice on cross-border romance and friendships. (Later named Fawnheart).

Rockkit (black and white long-furred molly)- named after Stonebird, Rockkit has her mother's passion and both her parents' sense of loyalty. She trains hard every day to be a great warrior, and puts her faith in justice over her ancestors. Someday, she could make a great deputy, and help run the Clan alongside her sister. (Later named Rockclaw).

Pikewing (white and brown tabby she-cat) + Hawkflower (dark gray tabby tom)

Fallingkit (orange long-furred cat)- Named for Fallingfeather, Fallingkit grows into a sensible, but stern, cat. Proudly nonbinary, they actively fight against any sort of injustice or bigotry. They aren't the best hunter (being neon orange and all) but they're a well-regarded cat in the Clans and it's always an honor to be mentored by them. (Later named Fallingfire).

Antkit (scrawny brown tom)- they were originally undecided on the name for Antkit. Hawkflower thought of honoring Leafleg (a shitty mentor, but still taken before his time) but didn't want to upset Grayfeather, so Pikewing told him all about leafcutter ants, and Antkit it was.

Like his mother, Antkit is very studious and loves to infodump, but while Pikewing loves bugs, Antkit loves Clan history. He could go on and on about the ancient Tunnelers of WindClan, the legend of how TigerClan got their stripes, SkyClan's banishment from the forest. He's a bit lost in his own world, but he's a good hunter, and an even better den-builder. (Later named Antfall).

Dogwoodkit (silver tabby molly)- named for the ghost that helped RiverClan and WindClan be rid of the dog, Dogwoodkit has no spiritual connections of her own. Heck, she doesn't even believe in that stuff! All she cares about is what's right in front of her. She wants to keep her home safe and sound, and isn't afraid to shed blood to do it. She's the go-to warrior for patrols and battles, but rarely is given any apprentices or let into senior warrior discussions bc of her blatant lack of faith. She IS a bit salty about that. (Later named Dogwoodtail).

Mousestep - A gentle and skilful tom. Mousestep has always had a delicate tread, even as a kit and as an apprentice his mentor helped him use it to help with his stalking, Mousestep can move through the forest in almost total silence now, when he’s stalking he makes sure that every step has been thought through, he is one of the best hunters in the clan. Mousestep tends to speak softly and he adores kits, when he’s not hunting he will often be talking with the queens in the nursery while helping keep an eye on the little ones, 15/10

Loudflower- An extroverted and cheerful she-cat. Loudflower is very sociable and loves company, she often talks as she works and she has a distinctively loud purr. Loudflower always thinks positively and she tries her best to help others that are feeling down, 14/10

Rainclaw - A calm and skilful she-cat. Not much can phase Rainclaw, she always seems to remain calm and collected, even in the heat of battle. She has strived to keep a cool head as she believes that this allows her to fight efficiently as she can, and make the most rational decisions, 14/10

Lionpelt- A friendly and bold tom. Lionpelt tends to get along with cats pretty well, he always tries to be polite to even the most hostile cat. Lionpelt will often push the boundaries of the territory just so he can try and glimpse what life outside a clan might be like, he will also always be the first cat to investigate or fight anything new, 13/10

Cherryfur- A kind and thoughtful she-cat. Cherryfur is always considerate of others and is always willing to help, although she can be a little shy sometimes so her voice doesn’t always get heard. Cherryfur like to go out into the forest and think about things while she is alone, she also likes to come up with stories in her head that she vows to tell one day once she is a little more confident, 13/10
