Final tasting for Ben and Jessica's Wedding grazing table. While they take pictures of their first moments the guests will be invited to begin the incredible all Tasmanian menu we've been planning for quite some time. I am always humbled when someone would like to use my food to commemorate a milestone, and few are as big as a wedding. This one is even more special because of the friendship I share with Ben, and through Ben his lovely mother Miss Rosemary. He and I met years ago at Gospel choir practice. He is a man of strong faith and family ties, who has the best sense of humor and shares similar taste in pop culture, fashion, and the love of quality time with friends with me. We've been united in prayers on things close to our hearts, for our peers, for our country, and for our professional selves for years. Imagine the delight when B called to tell me of his blessing in Jessica. I'll never forget the joy and admiration in B's voice as he told me about her. It was such a beautiful conversation, that lead to this special day ahead of us. They will refresh their guests with a His and Hers themed menu of favorites that will give insight to their favorite foods through the years. We have some Que, some sweets, some comfort classics, and some old school faves. These offerings will add to joy, to the festive atmosphere, and speak to the generosity of their hearts. They've chosen inclusive, vibrant dishes that will display their thoughtfulness to all who will attend. I just wanted to start this week off with a post about them. It's going to go by so swiftly I wish them clarity and peaceful space to take it all in. We print t-shirts with clever logos on them and pass out rubber brackets with their name that are printed in colors to match the shirts. We create meat-trains to support the families as they dedicate their time to their loved one as they get the medical care they need. Imagine how our society would change if we did the same for the those that were struggling with mental illness...there would be no shame associated with it—it’s just an illness. No closed-door conversations would be needed. No need to hide, rely on street drugs, turn to violence, or take another’s life because they, themselves have lost hope. Please, please, please, if you’re struggling, know that you are cherished. Know that you are loved for who you are in totality, and if you ask by who, it’s by none other then the most High God.
